ROOSEVELT JOHNSON
Services for Roosevelt "Toulon" Johnson, 60, were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in New Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Roberta Josey, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Aug. 6, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Ola Mae Johnson and the late Belton Scipio. He received his education in Darlington County public schools. He was a life member of New Providence United Methodist Church. Mr. Johnson was a former employee of Bonnotis Cotton Gin of Darlington. Surviving include his mother, Mrs. Ola Mae Johnson Douglas of Florence; his wife, Mrs. Martha Murphy Johnson of the home; two daughters, Gloria (Larry) Gandy of Darlington and Bernetha (Maurice) Cooper of Sumter; three sons, Frankie (Geneta) Johnson, Foster (Rhonda) Johnson and Junior Johnson, all of Darlington; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine sisters, Romella Green, Letha Mae (Cleveland) Hamliln, Annie Lee (Levern) Coe, Rannie (Steven) Gamble, all of Florence; Rosa Mae Coward, Ruby Baccus, Brenda Scipio, Lisa Scipio and Dee Dee Scipio, all of Darlington; five brothers, Ross (Janie) Sparks, Burnis Douglas, Rev. Larry Scipio, Roosevelt Scipio and Timothy Scipio; uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

MARGARET I. KINDER
Funeral services for Margaret I. "Boodie" Kinder, 84, of Kingstree, were held Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Williamsburg Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home of Kingstree. A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 14, in the Presbyterian Home Chapel in Florence. Mrs. Kinder died Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Presbyterian Home in Florence. Born in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil Kinder Sr. and Isabel Weeks Kinder. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was retired from Southern Cities Oil Co. Mrs. Kinder was a charter member of the Kingstree Pilots Club, a former member of the Kingstree Town Council and a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 35 years. Survivors include a brother, Wesley Kinder of Honolulu, Hawaii. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church or to the residents aid fund of the Presbyterian Home in Florence.

ANITA M. SIMS
There will be a private memorial service for Anita McPherson Sims, 85, widow of Danton F. Sims, of Hartsville, who died on Aug. 10, 2000. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hartsville Public Library or to the Greenville Literacy Association, 301 University Ridge, Suite 5400, Greenville, S.C. 29601, directed by Mackey Mortuary of Greenville. Mrs. Sims was born in Washington, D. C. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence Lillian Upshaw McPherson. She attended Montreat Normal School in Black Mountain, N.C., and graduated from Greenville High School. She also attended Winthrop College for two years. Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and loving mother. She served as a substitute teacher in the Hartsville area schools for many years and was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and Brownies. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Sims Tansil of Columbia; a son, Fayette L. (Billie) Sims, of Greenville; a sister, Florence Horton of Belton; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert "Bud" Wilson McPherson.

WILLIAM H. POSTON
Services for William Harvey Poston, 80, of Lamar, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in the Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment in Elim United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Christian Pathway Fellowship, P. O. Box 757, Lamar, S.C. 29069. Mr. Poston was born in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Liston D. and Claudia Crosby Poston. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired building contractor. Mr. Poston was also a member of Christian Pathway Fellowship, where he was a deacon. Surviving are his wife, Levrege P. Poston of the home; two daughters, Carol Amerson and Ilene McCoy, both of Lamar; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Poston was preceded in death by a son, William Harvey "Billy" Poston Jr.

ELRAY SWINTON JR.
Graveside services for Elray Swinton Jr., infant son of Joanne Maple and Elray Swinton Sr., were held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at Plaza Memorial Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar. The baby died Thursday, Aug. 10, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

EDITH O. POWELL
Services for Edith Onell "Nell" Powell, 82, of Florence, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel in Darlington. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Mrs. Powell died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Southland Health Care Center. She was born in Florence County and was the daughter of the late Chapman and Rebecca Miller Port. She was a seamstress, having retired from Marlowe Manufacturing of Florence. Mrs. Powell was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, Zollie F. Powell, in 1981. Survivors include one son, Johnny F. Powell of Bishopville, two daughters, Betty Stevens of Charlotte, N.C., and Willa Mae Hutchinson of Florence; one brother, Elvoid Port of Hemingway; three sisters, Margaret Marlowe of Johnsonville, Inez Poston of Florence and Elvaleen Cox of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29501.

AMY N. LANE
Services for Amy Nichole Lane, 16, were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, in Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar. Burial followed in the Lamar Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Lamar. Miss Lane died Monday, Aug. 14. Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of Marcus Thomas Lane and Pamela Amerson Hammond. She was a junior at Lamar High School and was a member of the Yearbook Club and the Beta Club. Amy delivered the commencement address at Palmetto Prep School for the graduating class of 2000. She was the recipient in 2000 for the highest grade average at Palmetto Prep School. Amy enjoyed music and singing, working on the computer, "hanging out" with her friends, especially her best friend, Ashley Church. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Joel Hammond of the home; her father of Lamar; two sisters, Taylor Hall of Lamar and Caitlin Lane of Florence; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. (Dot) Reynolds of Lamar; paternal grandparents, W. I. Lane of Florence and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Rosalie) Hammond of Penn.

OTHENIA JOHNSON
Services for Othenia Kennington Johnson, 82, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Griggs, officiating. Burial was in the First Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, Aug. 15. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late George Hampton and Catherine Lugenia Jordan Kennington. She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Daniel Johnson of Hartsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Alice) Caddell and Larry (Amanda) Caddell, all of Hartsville; one daughter, Judy (Tim) Baker of Baton Rouge, La., a sister, Pauline Floyd of Timmonsville; grandchildren, Helen Justice, Ric Caddell, Tonda McAlister, Michael Caddell, Amy Comeaux, Timmy Baker; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

JACOB WEATHERS
Mr. Jacob Weathers of Lamar, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, in a Columbia hospital after an illness. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence, 101 Lane Ave.

JACOB WEATHERS
Mr. Jacob Weathers, formerly of Darlington County, died on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, in a Richland County nursing center after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, in Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bishopville, with the Rev. Timothy Ballard officiating. Burial was in the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville. Mr. Weathers was born in Stateburg, S.C., to the late Kanada and Mary Dargan Weathers. He was educated in the public schools of both Lee and Sumter Counties. He worked as a custodian for more than 40 years in Lee County. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and later joined Liberty Baptist Church of Bishopville. He was married to the late Adrena Weathers. Surviving are four daughters, Vone Gilmore of Lamar, Elease (Billie) Evans and Pearlina Jenkins, both of Paterson, N.J., and Michelle (Anthony) Boyd of Bishopville; two sons, Jacob (Liala) Weathers Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Leonard Weathers of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Janie McFadden of Lamar; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Written Byrd Weathers and Phillip Weathers.

ED PARNELL
Funeral services for Edward D. Parnell, 69, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves, Florence, SC 29506 or the First Baptist Church, 104 E. Home, Hartsville, SC 29550. Mr. Parnell died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late S.P. and Anna Mae Parnell Segars. he was a member of the First Baptist Church, a deacon and Third and Fourth Grade Sunday School teacher. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company and was a graduate of Wingate College. He was a charter member and past president of the Hartsville Jaycees, past president of the Civitans, past treasurer and lifetime member of Prestwood Country Club, and former board member of Darlington County Crippled Children Society. He was also a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, American Red Cross, United Way, and Hartsville Heritage Foundation and was listed in the Outstanding Young Men of America. He was a Hartsville Citizen of the Year, a Civitan of the Year, and received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts. Surviving are his wife, Mary Moore Parnell of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Tammy Parnell of Mount Pleasant; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Kim Clark of Mount Pleasant Shannon and David Doerring of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Parnell, Mary Katherine Parnell, Stephanie Parnell, Jackson Clark and Grey Clark.
