REV. EARL L. CRUMMY
VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Rev. Earl Lee Crummy, formerly of Darlington County, died Monday, June 4, 2001, in Valdosta, Ga., after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home.

HILDA H. WILLIAMS
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mrs. Hilda Harmon Williams passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home. A private graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in McBee Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas B. Huggins, D.D., officiating.
Mrs. Williams was born on August 2, 1920, in Florence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivey Pearson and Annie Laney Harmon, and her brother, John Harold Harmon. She grew up in McBee and graduated in 1948 from Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She has lived in Greensboro since 1959.
Mrs. Williams was a founding member and board member of the Corporation of Guardianship, past president of the Association for Retarded Citizens of Greensboro, past member of the Guilford County Domiciliary Home Community Advisory Committee, a member of the Arc of North Carolina's LIFEguardianship Council, from which she received the LIFEguardianship Distinguished Service Award in 1995. Mrs. Williams was a member of the board of Sue Lynn Residential Services, and a member of the Wednesday Morning Book Club. Her work career included teacher, dietitian and personnel counselor. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to the many people who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Edwin McCahill Williams Jr. of the home; son, Edwin McCahill (Mac) Williams III of the home; daughter, Randall Williams Newberry of Hampstead, N.C.; sister, Lois Harmon Stevens and husband, John Ashley of Grenada, Miss.; sister, Anne Harmon McGregor and husband, Duncan Douglas of Chesterfield, S.C.; sister-in-law, Anita Williams Coe of Charlotte, N.C.; cousin, Mildred Dewberry of New York, N.Y.; grandson, William Alexander Newberry III; granddaughter, Brent Newberry Garcia, and husband, Albie; great-grandchild, Genevieve; granddaughter, Casey Ann Newberry; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on April 5, 2001, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the home of her husband and son, 400 East Greenway Drive North, Greensboro.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405; or to Arc/NC LIFEguardianship, 16 East Rowan Street, Suite 204, Raleigh, N.C. 27609.

JOHN RAY LEE II
SUMTER – John Ray Lee II, 52, husband of Deborah J. Lee, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late John Rae Lee Sr. and the late Margaret Thackston Morgan Lee. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and a Mason.
Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, John Ray "Tripp" Lee III of Dalzell, and Charles Christopher "Chris" Lee of Sumter; a step-son, Daniel Lee Kelley of Sumter; a brother, James F. Lee of Sumter; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Charles F. Walton Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers will be L.E. Martin, Donnie Brown, Louis Brown, Irvin Hester, Woody James and David Lee.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, S.C. 29260 or to a charity of one's choice.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

MARIA CALDERON
DARLINGTON – Grave-side services for Maria Evelyn Calderon, infant daughter of Juan Antonio and Angela Douglas Calderon, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Maria died Thursday, April 5.
Surviving in addition to her parents of the home are two sisters, Kelli and Kristianna Douglas of the home; a brother, Sergio Calderon of the home; grandparents, Debbie and Eddie Douglas, Maria Rosario Perez, Juan Antonio Calderon and Truesdale and Mary Douglas; great-grandparents, Vernon Dudley, Elizabeth Wallace, Seferina Sanchez, Patrisio Perez, Maria Calderon and Jesus Gallegos.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jimmy Douglas.

FRED HAM JR.
DARLINGTON – Fred Allen Ham Jr., 33, of the Oates Community died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in a Columbia hospital. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Lake Swamp Cemetery.
Mr. Ham was born in Florence County, a son of Fred Allen Ham Sr. and Evelyn Waddell Ham Harding. He was employed by International Knife and Saw Company and was an avid fisherman. He attended Church of God at Palmetto Street.
Surviving are his wife, Celesta W. Ham of the home; one son, Fred Allen Ham III of the home; his father, Fred Allen Ham Sr. of Timmonsville; step-mother, Wanda Ham of Timmonsville; his mother, Evelyn Harding of Michigan; step-father, Carmon Harding of Michigan; one brother, Joseph 'Joey' Ham of Florence; four sisters, Candy Ham Sims of Timmonsville, Karen Niederquell of Michigan, Amanda Ham of Timmonsville and Julie Ham also of Timmonsville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Renee Ham, and grandparents, Chesley and Cleo Ham, Lonnie Waddell, and Sarah Waddell Ward. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Darlington.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue N. Suite 101, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577.

BEULAH McDONALD
Services for Beulah McDonald, 91, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at St. Paul Community Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. McDonald died Thursday, April 5, in Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late John and Lula Rodgers Jackson. She was a member of St. Paul Community Church, the Missionary Society, Stewardess Board and the mother of the church.
Surviving are 13 grandchildren, Virginia (Willie) Addison, Lula McLeod, Jo Ann McDonald, Leisa (Water) McDougal, Lucy Hawkins, Tenola (Tony) Miller, Ernest (Lucille) McDonald, Donald McDonald, Rickey (Margie) McDonald and Danny (Mamie) McDonald, all of Hartsville, Celie Hines of Florence, Shelby (Theodore) Warren of Charleston and Brenda (John) Stallings of St. Albans, N.Y.; and a niece, Sara Lee Commander of Hartsville.

MATTIE LOU COVINGTON
Services for Mattie Lou 'Coonie' Covington were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, in New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Dials officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Covington died Thursday, April 5, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Moses and Irene Damon Huggins. She was educated in the Lee County public schools and was married early in life to the late James Northern Covington. She was first a member of Sandy Grove Methodist Church and after marriage she joined her husband in New Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors are five daughters, Bell (William) Beasley and Richard Dean Jennings of Hartsville, Carolyn Jackson, Mattie Mae McFadden and Louise Slater of Lydia; eight sons, James (Louise) Covington of Hartsville, Charles Covington and Tommy Covington of Durham, N.C., Jessie (Barbara) Covington, Billy Covington and Jerry Covington, all of Lydia, Jimmy (Lawan) Covington of Bennettsville, Gerald Covington of Roxborough, N.C.; seven sisters, Helen Covington of Bishopville, Dora Lee Williams of Lydia, Queen (George) Dials of Hartsville, Mary Alice of Palm Bay, Fla., Frances McKinsey of Brooklyn, N.Y., Rilla McClain of Darlington, and Edna (Eddie) White of Queens, N.Y.; two brothers, Quannie Huggins of Lydia and Harry Huggins of Washington, D.C.; 31 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren.

LARRY WILKES
Services for Larry Kenneth Wilkes, 48, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Middendorf Church of God. Burial was held in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilkes died Friday, April 6, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Willie James and Blanche Freeman Wilkes.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy Wilkes of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Tracy Wilkes, Joseph and Debbie Wilkes, Daniel Wilkes, all of Hartsville; step-mother, Shirley Wilkes of Hartsville; step-brothers, Gray James Wilkes, Kendall Lee Wilkes, all of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Ralph Lewis, Willie Jean and Frank Winburn, all of Hartsville; step-sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Buddy Grooms, both of Hartsville; and two grand-children. He was predeceased by his brother, James Wilkes.

RUBY H. FLOWERS
Services for Ruby H. Flowers, 59, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Green Hill Church of God.
The Revs. Jerry Gainey and Buddy Amerson officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Flowers died Saturday, April 7. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Virgil Wilson and Janie Elizabeth Gainey. She was a very active member of Green Hill Church of God.
Surviving are her husband Millard (Pigeon) Flowers of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Christine Hicks, Glenn and Tracy Stephens; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Cotton Atkinson; brother, Billy Joe Johnson; sisters, Bobbie Jean Doizer, Patsy Stephens, Ann Shumate, Faye Steen; grandchildren, Patrick Atkinson, Brittany Stephens, Carol Ann Stephens; step-grandchildren, Jay Lee, Brandon Lee, Mitchell Huestess, Carole King; and godchild, Tiffany Steen. She was predeceased by Vernie J. Johnson, Henry V. Johnson, McKinley Johnson and Virginia Gainey.

DOUGLAS S. WATSON
COLUMBIA – Services with military rites for Douglas Stewart Watson, 43, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in the chapel of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Home with the Rev. B. Wayne Kinyon, BCC, officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Visitation will be tonight, Wednesday, from 7 to 9 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mr. Watson died Saturday, April 7. Born in Ridgeway, Pa., he was a son of Shirleyann Snyder Watson Morris and the late Jack Leroy Watson. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm and as staff sergeant in the S.C. Air National Guard. Mr. Watson was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Rosalie Toothill Watson; son, Matthew J. Watson of the home; his mother of Hartsville; and brother, John Charles Watson of Honolulu, Hawaii.
