WILLIE F. SMITH
Services for Willie Franklin 'Snot' Smith were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Foster and Alice Bennet Smith Sr. and was educated in the public schools, graduating from Butler High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served for several years. After his return he was disabled.
Survivors are two sisters, Beulah Mae (Larry) Shirley of Hartsville and Alice Mae (Johnny) Tucker of Darlington; a brother, Foster (Christine) Smith of Hartsville; four uncles, Ellison (Lisa) Frierson of Baltimore, Md., Ervin Carter, Lenard Carter and Elijah Carter of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lida Ann Sampson of Patterson, N.J.

WOODROW WILSON
Graveside services for Woodrow 'Judge' Wilson, 74, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 11, 2001, at The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic, Inc., directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson died Saturday, April 7, after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Alfred and Magnolia Wilson. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County and worked for a number of years with the Southern Railway System until he retired.
Survivors are a sister, Bernetha McLeod of Hartsville and a host of nieces and nephews.

JOEL K. McCOY
ZEBULON, N.C. – Services for Joel K. McCoy, 57, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Family Funeral Care Chapel, 1202 N. Arendell Ave., Zebulon, N.C. Donations made be made to Bunn Rescue and EMS, P. O. Box 236, Bunn, N.C. 27508.
Mr. McCoy died Sunday, April 8, at Wake Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, Ill., and was the son of the late King McCoy and Portia R. McCoy of South Carolina. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Vietnam Conflict in 1967 and worked with Beckman-Coulter Biomedical Center.
Surviving other than his mother are his wife, Carol A. McCoy of the home; a daughter, Carol Driver and husband Rodney of Zebulon, N.C.; a sister, Judy Dugan and husband, Douglas of S.C.; two grandchildren, April Christine Driver and Robert Alexander Driver; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

ULYSSES SWINEY
Ulysses Swiney, 75, of Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Hartsville, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, in a Philadelphia hospital after an illness. Local arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

FRANKLIN BRAND
Services for Thomas Franklin Brand, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Jim Beck and Darryl Bogatay will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Brand, widower of Tiny Bell Mozingo Brand, died Thursday April 12. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Elliott Gray and Nellie Taylor Brand. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II and a member of the Darlington County DAV. He was retired from Reeves Brothers and also from farming, his true love.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Freddie and Ann Brand, Ronnie and Rita Brand, all of Hartsville; bother, Hudson "Buster" Taylor of Bethune; sisters, Nellie Gray Beasley of Hartsville, Alice Catoe of Bethune; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

LAURA DUNDAY
SOCIETY HILL – Laura Dunday, 54, of Society Hill, died Tuesday at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

SOCIETY HILL – Services for Laura Dundy, 54, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, at New Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Daniels officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Ms. Dundy died Tuesday April 10, 2001, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Darlington County, a daughter of Lelia Jackson Dundy and the late Lessie "Joe" Dundy Sr. She received her education in the public schools of Darlington County and was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving other than her mother of Society Hill are three sons, Paul Dundy, Ronzo Dundy and David Dundy, all of Society Hill; five sisters, Lelia (Monroe) McFarland, Betty (Levern) James, both of Society Hill, Lillie (Eddie) Gattison and Mabel (Tyrone) Little, both of Darlington, and Alice (Billie) Mitchell of Hartsville; five brothers, Jimmy (Verdie) Jackson Dundy of Winston Salem, N.C., Early (Janie) Dundy, Lessie (Naomi) Dundy, Levern Dundy and Elijah (Gina) Dundy, all of Society Hill; an aunt, Mary Bonapart of Columbia; her fiance, John Leavy of Winston Salem, N.C., and seven grandchildren.

DORA G. LEONARD
Services for Dora Gibson Leonard, 81, widow of Rufus C. Leonard Sr., will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Leonard was born in Halifax County, N.C., a daughter of the late Bud and Emma Davis Gibson. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edith Tolson of Hartsville and Mrs. Nita Taylor of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, the Rev. Rufus Leonard Jr. and Buddy Medlin, both of Hartsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Cassidy of Hartsville and Mrs. Lillian Smiley of Warrenton, N.C.; one brother, William Gibson of Warrenton, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Jones.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.

MILDRED GANDY
Services for Mildred McClellan Gandy, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. The Rev. Marco Kelley will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Mrs. Gandy died Thursday, April 12. Born in Horry County, she was a daughter of the late A. K. and Ellen McClellan. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Temple and was employed as a security guard at PPM Security.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Joy Gandy Jr., Eddie and Gloria Gandy, Larry Dean Gandy and special friend Marie Freeman, all of Society Hill; daughter and son-in-law, Denise Gandy and Frank Dixon of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Connie Byrd of Society Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Alice Martin of Cheraw; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

EMMETT L. BRYANT
DARLINGTON – Services for Emmett Lauren Bryant, Jr., 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mr. Bryant died Thursday, April 12. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Emmett L. and Sadie Gibson Byrant, Sr. He was a retired truck driver for Southeastern Steel after 20 years.
Surviving are his wife Juanita Grooms Bryant of Darlington; three sons, James Allen Bryant of Hartsville, Richard Darrell Bryant and Gary Emmett Bryant of Darlington; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Bryant of Timmonsville and three sisters, Myrtle Watford of Timmonsville, Emmy Byrd of Darlington and Lillian Strickland of Florence.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29506.
