JUDITH ROGERS
Services for Judith Miriam "Judy" Woods Rogers, 55, were held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment was in Lamar Cemetery. Mrs. Rogers was born in Charleston County, the son of the late Wyman J. and Annie Morris Woods. She was Southern Baptist by faith. Surviving are her husband, Donald F. Rogers of Lynchburg; a son, Buddy (Tammy) Hatfield of Timmonsville; a grandson, Brandon Stegall of Timmonsville; two brothers, Ronnie (Julia) Woods of Hampton and Jean (Margurette) Woods of John’s Island; and a special sister-in-law, Mildred Rogers of Hartsville.

HENRY S. WALLACE
Services for Henry Samuel Wallace were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Clyde Church of God. The Rev. Wallace Strickland officiated, with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Wallace, widower of Ina Lane Wallace, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Daniel Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Cain Wallace. He attended the Clyde Church of God and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at the Hartsville Print & Dye until it closed and was retired as a painter. Surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Mike Wallace, Dennis Wallace, and Roger and Shirley Wallace, all of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Barefoot, Carole Mooneyhan Weatherford, Sammie and Mickey Mooneyhan, all of Hartsville, Faye and John McGovern of Columbia, and Judy and Mike Tyner of Hartsville; sister, Beler Mae Smith of Hartsville; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

HARRELL C. GAINEY
Graveside services for Harrell Cowboy Gainey, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 31, 2000, at Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Askins Funeral Home. The Rev. John Hamilton will officiate. Mr. Gainey died Sunday, May 28. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Carey Gainey and the late Effie Harrell Gainey. Memorial may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 213 West Home Ave., Hartsville, S.C. 29550. Mr. Gainey was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He also served in World War II.

THOMAS J. ABRAMS
Services for Thomas J. (Jeff) Abrams, 87, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at West Hartsville Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Tomlinson and Paul Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Abrams died Thursday, July 12. He was born in Rutherford County, N.C., a son of the late Julius and Docia Sparks Abrams. He was retired from Conso in Union, S.C., and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Ingle Abrams of Hartsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Frances (Ray) Petty of Hartsville; four grandchildren, Amy Petty, Susan (Ervin) McElveen and Kerry (Steve) Parker, all of Hartsville, and Beth (Phillip) Long of Sumter; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Irene Abrams of Buffalo, S.C.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Abrams.

PAULINE W. CASSIDY
CHESTERFIELD – Services for Mrs. Pauline White Cassidy, 86, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Lower Macedonia Baptist Church with interment in Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.
Mrs. Cassidy died Friday, July 13. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Will Franklin and Ella Jane Teal White. She was a homemaker and member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Cassidy was married to the late Carson Cassidy and was preceded in death by a son, Randal Cassidy.
Survivors are three sons, B.C. Cassidy and wife, Mildred, of Chesterfield, Rodger Cassidy and wife, Lynda Faye, of Cheraw and Larry Cassidy and wife, Patsy, of Hartsville; three daughters, Delores Moore and husband, Troy, of Ruby, Carolyn Davidson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joann Evans and husband, Woody, of Lexington, S.C.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Lower Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Ann Gainey, Rt. 3, Box 280C, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709.

FRED D. JORDAN
MT. CROGHAN, S.C. – Services for Fred Douglas Jordan, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at Fairview Baptist Church with interment in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.
Mr. Jordan died Saturday, July 14. He was born in Mt. Croghan, a son of the late Ross Eugene and Susie Geneva Oliver Jordan. He was a retired employee of Caro Knit and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray Jordan, Everette Jordan and Carroll Jordan.
Survivors are one son, Fred Douglas Jordan Jr., and wife, Shannon, of Hartsville; one daughter, Jeanette "Charlie" Spencer and husband, Joe, of Cheraw; two grandchildren, Cassie Jordan and Joseph Spencer; two brothers, Robert M. Jordan of Chesterfield and Gerald D. Jordan of Mt. Croghan; two sisters, Lucille J. Summerford of Pageland and Frances J. Funderburk of Mt. Croghan.

PATTY JOAN BEST
TOLEDO, Ohio – Funeral services for Patty Joan (Edwards) Best, 45, were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, 6320 Lewis Ave., Temperance, Mich., with the Rev. Charles Reed officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001, in the Edwards Family Cemetery, Speedwell, Tenn., with The Rev. Milton Frazier officiating.
Mrs. Best went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 14, in Toledo at the home of her brother. She was born July 21, 1955, to Sherman and Mable (Owens) Edwards of Toledo, Ohio. She attended Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, Pa. She then moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. to complete her education at Piedmont Baptist College where in 1981 she received her bachelor's degree in religious education. Patty and her husband, Kenneth, have served with Baptist Mid-Missions since 1982, currently serving as missionaries at Grace Baptist Church of Scottsdale, Ariz. Patty was devoted to her calling as a missionary and mother.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman, and brother, Stephen Edwards.
Survivors include her loving husband of 21 years, Pastor Kenneth H. Best of Arizona; children, Richard, Sandra and Kathryn Best, all of Arizona.; mother, Mable Edwards of Toledo; siblings, Edward Leroy (Sara) Edwards of Toledo, Phyllis (John) Luard of Swartz Creek, Mich., Karen (Mare) Dalton of Temperance, Mich., and Sherry (Tony) Eishen of Fort Hood, Texas; mother-in-law, Arow Brumble of Columbia.

Mary Pate, 84, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

LIGHTY ALFRED
NEWFIELD, N.J. – Lighty Alfred, formerly of Lamar, died on Friday, July 13, at his New Jersey residence after an illness. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hines Funeral Home, Inc., of Lamar.

BEULAH BUMGARNER
Funeral services for Beulah McKenzie Bumgarner, 80, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roger Hurd officiated with burial in Savannah Advent Christian Church cemetery.
Mrs. Bumgarner, widow of Will P. Bumgarner, died Thursday, July 12, 2001. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Mettie Jane Wadsworth. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was retired from the Hartsville Cotton Mill.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Charles W. Grantham of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margie Jean Malloy.
