Jessie (Bea) Hulon Fore, 86, widow of James Edward Fore, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at 8:15 a.m. in Oakmont of Union. Mrs. Fore was born in Columbia on April 22, 1917, a daughter of the late Rufus Armstead Hulon and Bernice Greene Hulon.

Surviving are a son, Harold D. Lunsford of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Lou H. Smith of Union; a brother, Joe Hulon of Union; three step-daughters, Mae Lillie F. Sherbert of Union, Pansy Hooper of Georgia and Lucille Peery of Alabama; a step-son, Ted Fore of Tennessee, and a number of grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Highland Memory Gardens in Forrest City, Florida. The family is at the home of her sister, Lou H. Smith, 309 Lakeside Drive, Union.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of S.C., 128-C Medical Science Drive, Union, S.C. 29379 or to the Augsburg Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 366, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

June C. Kirby
Tennessee native

Dorothy June Chesser Kirby, 75, wife of Paul Gene Kirby of 114 South Church St., died at her residence Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 11:05 a.m. after an extended illness. Mrs. Kirby was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Aug. 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Seaborn Wright Chesser and Belle Kelly Chesser. She was a member of the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where she had worked in the nursery of the church for over 20 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are: two daughters, Mrs. Robby (Teresa Kirby) Hodge of Belmont, N.C. and Mrs. Robert W. (Mary Ann Kirby) Neal, Sr. of Rock Hill; a son, Michael Gene Kirby and his wife Gaile of Smyrna; a sister, Mary C. Glass of Charleston; a brother, Kenneth Chesser of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ashley Gene Kirby of Charleston, Kimberly Anne Kirby of Walterboro, Robert William Neal II and Patrick Kirby Neal of Rock Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Barry Tweed, David Patterson, Ronnie Palmer, Rick Glass and Carroll Sailors.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday night from 7 until 9. The family is at the home, 114 South Church St. Memorial may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 352, Newberry, S.C., 29108. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Charles B. Baldwin
Construction employee

Charles Bradford (Brad) Baldwin, of 110 Arthur Blvd. died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at his home. Mr. Baldwin was born in Spartanburg on Oct. 20, 1960, a son of Richard and Linda Baldwin. He attend Union High School and was employed with Gilkison Construction.

Mr. Baldwin attended Mon-Aetna Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, April Knipe Baldwin; a daughter, Lilly Breanna Baldwin; a step-daughter, Katlyn Brook Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Ruby B. Garner of Columbia; aunts and uncles, Mike and Paula Browning of Laurens; Charles R. and Marie Moss of Ridge Springs; Freddie and Louise Baldwin of Lockhart and Connie and Wayne Springs of Union; and a number of cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Crocker. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Glenn Williams, Don Newsome, Carl Moss, Derrick Greene, Anthony Taylor and Lee Martin. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9.

The family is at the home of his parents, Richard and Linda Baldwin of 111 Lowry St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Clemmie Rose Franklin
Retired registered nurse

Clemmie Rose Lybrand Franklin, 79, of 501 W. Main St., died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at 1:40 p.m. in Mountainview Nursing Home in Spartanburg. Ms. Franklin was born in Union on Aug.19, 1923, a daughter of the late Sims Robert Lybrand and Mary Cudd Lybrand. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the Young at Hearts, former member of the Louise Brooks Circle and was former teacher of the Cradle Roll Sunday School Class.

She was a graduate of Union High School, Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Spartanburg General Hospital Alumnae Association. Ms. Franklin was a retired registered nurse having worked at Whitten Center, Baptist Hospital in Columbia, Wallace Thomson Hospital, Spartanburg General Hospital and Charlotte Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Harriett Barrett Phillips and Michael Judson Phillips of Spartanburg; a sister, Miss Grace Lybrand of the home; three grandchildren, Michael Barrett Phillips and Elizabeth Phillips, Jonathan Tyler Phillips and Jeanette Phillips and Rosemary Claire Phillips and a great-grandchild, Lillian Grace Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Ralph Bowling.

Burial will be in Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Rodney Cudd, Darwin Allen, Don Cohen, Dennis Campbell, Ronnie Henderson, Scott Foster and Gerald McCoy.

The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to form the honorary escort: Members of the Mary Lybrand Sunday School Class, members of the Loyalty Sunday School Class, Staff of Mountainview Nursing Home; Kenneth Marion May, John D. Long III, B. E. (Connie) Kirby, Carlisle Henderson, Dr. Julian Williams and Dr. Harold Flemming.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family will assemble at the funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to Whitten Center, Highway 76 East, Clinton, S.C. 29325. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Charles L. Kerr Jr.
Retired from Ivey Electrical

Charles L. Kerr Jr., 76, husband of Grace Elaine Hughes Kerr of 1510 West Springs Highway, Jonesville, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at 11:50 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Center after a brief illness. Mr. Kerry was born in Jonesville on June 25, 1927, a son of the late Charles L. Kerr Sr. and Florence Rowland Kerr.

He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Ivey Electrical Contractors. Mr. Kerr was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II and was a mason with the Prudent Lodge of Jonesville. He was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and also attend Oakbrook Community Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Deborah Ann Moore of Simpsonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick Michael and Barbara Kerr, Marty Alan and Deana Kerr, all of Jonesville; three sisters, Sybil Byrd of Conyers, Ga., Ann Foster of Aiken and Julia (Bootsie) Garner of Jonesville; two brothers, Rick Kerr of Jonesville and Frank Kerr of Pacolet; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kerr was predeceased by a son, Charles Lane Kerr and three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jonesville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Ralph Brown and the Rev. Terry Candler. The body will remain at the funeral home in Union where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9.

The family is at the home of his son, Marty Kerr, 235 Church St., Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Charles Bradford (Brad) Baldwin, 22, of 118 Arthur Boulevard, were held at 3 p.m. today at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Crocker. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens. Mr. Baldwin was born in Spartanburg on Oct. 20, 1980. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth R. Evans
Electronics technician

BOULDER, Colo. Kenneth R. Evans, 51, of Boulder, Colo., son of Ruby Farr Evans of 712 Perrin Ave., Union, and the late Luscius R. Evans, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School, Class of 1970, and also a graduate of the University of Colorado. Mr. Evans was an electronics technician at Ball Aerospace for 23 years.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Toni Cox of Liberty and Debra Evans of Union; a brother, Carl Evans of Greenville; three nieces, Kathy Cox, Shelia Bates and April Bagwell; three nephews, Paul Cox, Wesley Cox and Brent Evans; also his most special loving friend, Kristy Webber of Boulder, Colo.

Quida B. Gregory
Retired from Excelsior Mill

Quida Brewer Gregory, 77, widow of States E. Gregory of 118 Spruce St., died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at 2:45 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Gregory was born in Eagle Lake, Texas, on Nov. 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Travis H. Brewer and Esta White Bayless. She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of the Tomi Vaughan Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gregory was retired from Milliken & Co., Excelsior Plant.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne E. and Susan H. Gregory of Union; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl G. and Boyd Black of Camden and Beverly G. and Gordon Hamilton of Columbia; and three grandchildren, Wayne E. Gregory Jr. of Greenville, Alex Gregory of Union and Neal Hamilton of Boone, N.C. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by a brother, Travis H. Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Tommy McManus. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Wilbur Smith III, Brown Fant, Hal Gregory, Sam White, Donnie Betenbaugh, Sammy Sumner and Chuck Malone.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 7:30. The family is at the home, 118 Spruce St., Union. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 S. Pinckney St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Reuben A. Johnson Sr.
Union County native

Reuben A. Johnson Sr., 87, widower of Mary Ruth Henry, of New York City died June 29, 2003 in North General Hospital in New York. Mr. Johnson was born in Union County May 15, 1916, a son of the late Wadius and Pearl Johnson.

Surviving are two sons, Charles R. (Mary) Johnson of Greer and Reuben A. (Diane) Johnson Jr. of New York City; a brother, Melvin C. (Shirley) Johnson of Jersey City, N. J.; 14 grandchildren and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Willie Titus.

Burial will be in Hills Cemetery in Carlisle. Viewing will be from 2 until 6 p.m. today. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
