ROGERO, William
William H. "Bill" Rogero, 86, 53 year resident of Valdosta, died on Thursday, June 20, 2002, in Valdosta, after a short illness. He was born on November 9, 1915, the son of the late Charles Joseph and Mamie Bozeman Rogero of Macon. A Navy Veteran of WWII, he was retired from C & S Bank. Mr. Rogero was a deacon and active member of First Baptist Church, Valdosta, where he had served on various committees and as Sunday School Secretary for more than 20 years. Involved in a number of civic organizations, he was past president of both the Valdosta High School Touchdown Club and the VHS Band Boosters. Bill was especially proud of the privilege he had of signing the Lowndes County Chapter of the Girl Scouts. During his retirement he spent many hours entertaining in schools, churches and nursing homes with his harmonica and dancing dolls. Always protective of his loved ones, he was a proud husband, father and family man.
Survivors are his wife, Helen Janney Rogero of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Genie R. and Wes Krivanck of Valdosta, Judy R. and Larry Thames of North Charleston, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, George W. Rogero and Joyce Sloan of Washingtonville, New York; six grandchildren, Jennifer M. Vance of Valdosta, William E. Thames of Lithia Springs, Shannon E. Thames, Katherine M. Thames, Randal L. Thames all of N. Charleston, South Carolina, Helen Sloan Rogero of Washingtonville, New York; brother, C.J. Rogero, III of Macon, sister, Mamie Rogero Reynolds of Morrisville, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Mary Bullington, Hazel Pool, LaMerle Bowen, Virginia and Hugh Edwards of Columbia, S.C., brother-in-law, Earl and Alvina Janney, Sr; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Dr. Phil West will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the CARSON MCLANE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.

ALEXANDER, Jr., Joseph
Colonel Joseph Paul Alexander, Jr., U.S.A. Ret. of Folly Beach died at his home on June 18, 2002. He was born December 7, 1916 in Laurens, S.C., the son of the late Paul and Willie Sexton Alexander.
Col. Alexander was a graduate of Wofford College, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity and the Blue Key leadership fraternity. He entered the U.S. Army soon after and served for over 32 years. He received numerous awards and commendations in a career that spanned all of World War II, both stateside and in Europe, as well as Korea and Vietnam. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a member of the Charleston Kiwanis Club. He was first married to the late Ursula Gore Kessler and later married the late Jeanne Undereiner Hamilton in 1977. He is survived by one daughter, Ursula Layton of New York City, N.Y.; two sons, Joseph Paul Alexander, III of Fort Worth, Tex. and Jefferson Alexander of James Island, S.C.; two step-daughters, Martha Hamilton of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Andrea Kintree of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren, Paul IV, Noel, Max, Ben and Eve; two step-grandchildren, Anna and Michael; and a sister, Rosemary Todd of Columbia, S.C. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Unitarian Church Sanctuary on Archdale Street in Downtown Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1430 Folly Road, James Island, S.C. 29412. MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth Street is assisting the Alexander Family.

COX, Theron
Theron Clyde Cox, 90, died Saturday in McLeod Regional Hospital after an illness.
Mr. Cox was born March 12, 1912 in Cades, a son of the late Wabbleton Bradley Cox and Mrs. Fannie Graham Cox. For many years, Mr. Cox was the owner and operator of Cox Refrigeration and Cox Laudromat, both on Kingstree. Prior to moving to Florence in 2001, Mr. Cox was an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and the Kingstree Men's Prayer Breakfast, as well as a former member of the Gideons. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his sister, Rosa Cox Prevatte Harrell and brothers; J. W., Clarence and Dewey Cox.
Surviving: His wife: Mrs. Ora Lee Tanner Cox of Florence, 3 sons; Timothy C. (Bette) Cox of Florence, R. Dale Cox, recently of Hillsville, VA, now of Florence, Bryan L. (Sarah) Cox of Murrells Inlet, one sister: Mrs. V. Maurita (Rev. James) Hughes of Winston-Salem, NC, 4 grandchildren: Angela C. (Vernon) Ogburn of Myrtle Beach, Jonathan C. Cox of Greenville, Timothy C. (T.C.) Cox of Myrtle Beach, and Olivia L. Cox of Myrtle Beach, 1 great-granddaughter: Izabelle L. Ogburn of Myrtle Beach, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Kingstree United Methodist Church, with burial in Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery, near Cades. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME IN KINGSTREE.

WILLIS, Ruth
Entered into eternal rest June 21, 2002, Ruth Smith Willis, retired from American Tobacco Co., residence N. Charleston, S.C. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at eleven o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Friends may call Monday, June 24, 2002, between six and eight o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Ms. Willis was born July 22, 1916 in Charleston, S.C. daughter of Joseph Edward Smith and Eva Morrison Smith. She was a charter member of Remount Baptist Church.
She is survived by her former husband and friend Abraham Lincoln Willis of N. Charleston, S.C., three sons, Joseph L. Willis of N. Charleston, S.C., William A. "Billy" Willis of Adams Run, S.C., and Robert A. "Shorty" Willis of N. Charleston, S.C., one daughter, Patricia A. Willis of N. Charleston, S.C., one sister, Josie Sanford of Charleston, S.C., ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

WILLIAMS, Shirley
WALTERBORO - Shirley Ann Williams died Wednesday, June 19, 2002. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2002, in Greater St. James Church, Walterboro. Burial will be in Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church cemetery, Round O.
Mrs. Williams was born in Walterboro and was the daughter of the late Clyde Lewis Williams, Sr. and Ida Mae Bennett Williams. She was educated in the public schools in Colleton County. She was employed with Department of Social Services in Colleton County for a number of years before becoming property manager at Lincoln Apartments and Druid Hills II in Walterboro.
She was a member of More Than Conqueror International Ministries (formerly Seminar Hall Fellowship) in Walterboro. She served as President of the Pastor's Aide Committee and Church Secretary.
She was the widow of Moses E. Williams, Sr.
Surviving are: one son, Moses E. "Toby" Williams, Walterboro; one daughter, Sonya Williams, Walterboro, a grandson, Moses Dashawn Williams; one brother, Clyde L. Williams, Jr., Walterboro; one sister, Tiffany Williams, Orangeburg, several other relatives and friends; a very special pastor. Pastor Mary Memminger, Walterboro.

DRIGGERS, Sharlene
Sharlene B. Royce Driggers, 46, of Moncks Corner, wife of Donald A. "Donny" Driggers, died Friday morning in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral service will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock in JAMES A. DYAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, SUMMERVILLE. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 o'clock until hour of service today.
Mrs. Driggers was born on October 23, 1955 in Morgantown, West Virginia, a daughter of Duane and Mary Gale Woodford Royce of Morgantown, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Morgantown High School in Morgantown, West Virginia. She was a receptionist with Weathers Industries, Summerville. She attended Living By Faith Church, Summerville.
Surviving are: her parents of Morgantown, WV, her husband of Moncks Corner. Daughter; Julia A. Magrone and her husband Ben of Long Pond, PA. 2 stepsons: Barry Driggers and his wife Melissa of Bonneau, Donny Driggers of Charleston. 3 grandchildren; Jessica & Carley Magrone of Long Pond, PA, Brittney Driggers of Bonneau. Brother; David Duane Royce of Grafton, WV. Sister: Debra Royce Powell & her husband Donnie of Morgantown, WV. 2 nieces: Kimberly Sandora of Clearwater, FL, Amanda Hunt of Morgantown, WV. 1 nephew: Matthew Powell of Morgantown, WV. 1 great-niece: Alexis Hunt of Morgantown, WV.

The relatives and friends of Mr. Carl Douglas Eippert are invited to attend his funeral service this afternoon at 3 o'clock in Stallsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.

ARNOLD, Ethel
Ethel Mae Padgett Arnold, 83, of Summerville, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Whispering Pines cemetery, Old Hwy. 52, Moncks Corner, S.C. Born August 21, 1918, in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Rufus R. Padgett and Fannie Jane McQueen Padgett.
Mrs. Arnold was a retired teacher in the Berkeley County School System and a founding member of the Park Circle Presbyterian Church where she was an elder. Mrs. Arnold was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and a graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College in Greenville, which is now East Carolina University. Mrs. Arnold was president of the Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota, a professional teaching sorority from 1983-1984 in Berkeley County.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Scharling, Wharton, Texas, and Karen Arnold of Summerville; son, Michael Arnold; sister, Edna P. Ryals, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two grandchildren, David Scharling and Scott Scharling.
She was predeceased by her brother, Lacy R. Padgett.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. Memorials made to Park Circle Presbyterian Church, 4701 Parkplace West, North Charleston, S.C.

BROOKS, Daryl
Walterboro - Daryl Lewis Brooks, son of Mr. Benjamin Brooks and Eleanor Lewis Brooks, was born May 19, 1957 at Colleton County Hospital in Walterboro, South Carolina. He departed this life June 5, 2002 on his work site at Walterboro High School.
Daryl's early years were spent in Walterboro under the wings of his departed grandparents, Swinton and Christelle Lewis where he attended Mount Olive Baptist Church. Although born and raised in Walterboro, most of his adult life was spent in New York City as well as the United States Armed Forces. During his twenty-eight years of service in the US Army, Daryl continued his education, traveled extensively and lived life to the fullest. With hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Sgt./E-6 as well as receiving numerous medals and citations. He loved life, his family, his friends and his country.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Benjamin and Eleanor Brooks; one brother, Chester Brooks; two sisters, Sharondee Brooks and Marlo Brooks; sister, Polly Ann Riley (James); brother, Ernest Dent (Lilly); one nephew, Oluwaseyi-Shey-Ayinde; seven aunts, Gloria Black of St. Albans, New York, Bernice Wilson of Augusta, Georgia, Kate Lewis and Brenda Lewis of New York City, New York; Dorothy Ferrette (Robert), Ruthie Rearden (Norris) and Celia Tillman - all of Walterboro; two uncles, Richard Brooks of Walterboro and Willie Brooks (Lilly) of Jersey City, New Jersey; numerous cousins and other relatives.

Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 20, 2002, Mr. Jossie "Shorty" VanDross. Residence, 1330 Center Lake, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Formerly of Wando, S.C. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Lillie Francis VanDross. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake and Florine VanDross. The loving father of Mr. Andre VanDross. The loving brother of Mr. Benjamin Campbell, Mr. Lawrence "Larry" VanDross (Estell), Mr. Clarence VanDross (Valarie), Mrs. Pearl Hardee, Mrs. Mary Rose, Mrs. Estell Bristow (David) and Mrs. Rosetta Simmons. The late Mr. Jake VanDross, Jr., Mr. Elijah Mitchell, Mr. David VanDross and Mr. Leroy "Nell" VanDross. The son-in-law of Mrs. Louise Bethea.
