POLK, Doris
RUFFIN - Mrs. Doris Ann Hudson Polk, 48, of 2478 Red Root Road, died Thursday at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Polk was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Mendel Beathea Hudson and Ina Strickland Hudson. She was a retired bookkeeper with Air Cooled Motors an was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church-Ruffin Charge. She was the widow of Rev. Lucas Padgett Polk.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Revonda P. Zellars of Florida, a brother, Charles H. Hudson of Walterboro, a step granddaughter, two step great-grandchildren, a nephew, Tommy Hudson of Ruffin, and several nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday at the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.

ALEXANDER, Jr., Joseph
Colonel Joseph Paul Alexander, Jr., U.S.A. Ret. of Folly Beach died at his home on June 18, 2002. He was born December 7, 1916 in Laurens, SC, the son of the late Paul and Willie Sexton Alexander.
He entered the US Army soon after graduating from Wofford College and served for over 32 years. The Colonel received numerous awards and decorations in a career that saw all of World War II, both stateside and in Europe, as well as Korea and Vietnam. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a member of the Charleston Kiwanis Club. In college, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity and the Blue Key leadership fraternity.
He was first married to Ursula Gore Kessler. Their children are Ursula Layton of New York City, Joseph Paul Alexander III of Fort Worth, Tx. and Jefferson Alexander of James Island. Also survived by a sister, Rosemary Todd of Columbia, SC. Five grandchildren, Paul, IV, Noel, Max, Ben and Eve also survive him.
He married Jeanne Undereiner Hamilton in 1977. His surviving stepchildren from this marriage are Martha Hamilton of Daytona Beach, Fl. and Andrea Kintree of St. Louis, Mo. Two step-grandchildren, Michael and Anna, also survive him.
A Memorial Service for Colonel Alexander will be held Sunday, June 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Unitarian Church Sanctuary on Archdale Street downtown Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1430 Folly Road, James Island, SC 29412.

JERNIGAN, Kathleen
GEORGETOWN - Kathleen Estridge Jernigan, 92, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Winyah Convalescent Center in Georgetown.
Mrs. Jernigan was born in Warsaw, N.C. on August 20, 1909, a daughter of the late William Franklin Estridge and Pearl Blackmon Estridge. She was a graduate of Mars Hill High School and Western Carolina University.
Mrs. Jernigan was a member of First Baptist Church and served her church as a past chairman of the Flower Committee, Nomination Committee, and Women's Missionary Union. She had also served on several Pulpit Committees. Mrs. Jernigan was a member of the Whites Bridge Garden Club and a S.C. Flower Show Judge. She was the widow of Ruff Kirby Jernigan.
Surviving are: a son, Jackie E. Jernigan of Georgetown, a sister, Cleora Jones of Bethune, two grandsons, Jeffrey A. Jernigan of Lansing, Mich., and Justin S. Jernigan of Clemson, and two great-grandsons, Jackson Stuart Jernigan and Ashton McKenzie Jernigan, both of Lansing, Mich.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2002, in First Baptist Church, officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrell and the Rev. Dr. W.H. Clapp. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the direction of the GEORGETOWN CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from six until eight Friday evening, June 21, 2002.
