Sarah Beatrice Collins Blackmon

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Sarah Beatrice Collins Blackmon, age 82, died Sunday, November 22, 2015.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Interment followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw.

Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blackmon was born January 19, 1933 in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late William Thomas “Tom” and Sarah Elizabeth Sellers Collins. She was a homemaker and attended Chesterfield Church of God. Beatrice enjoyed reading her Bible and talking on the phone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Blackmon and by 7 brothers and 4 sisters.

Survivors include 4 Brothers: Thomas Collins of Great Falls, SC; Carson P. (Mary) Collins of Chesterfield, SC; Larry Collins of Landis, NC; and Terry (Gail) Collins of Chesterfield, SC; 6 Sisters: Katie Lee Blackmon of Chesterfield, SC; Margie Rae (Asia) Hodge of Ruby, SC; Clara Mae (Wayne) Conyers of Kershaw, SC; Huldah (Bill) Thomas of Kannapolis, NC; Grace Wallace of Cheraw, SC; and Mary Crawford of Fort Mill, SC;

Also a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Robert Preston ‘Butch’ Bryant Jr.

EDGEWATER, Fla. – Mr. Robert Preston “Butch” Bryant Jr., age 63, formerly of Chesterfield, SC, died Sunday, November 22, 2015.

A graveside service will be held held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 29, 2015 in Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Visitation will be from 1:45 – 2:45 P.M. Sunday, prior to the service at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Bryant was born November 27, 1951, in Wadesboro, NC, a son of the late Robert Preston “Pug” Bryant and Vivian Trotti Ballard Bryant. He was an Industrial Electrician. In addition to his parents, Butch was also preceded in death by his son, Tom Bryant.

Survivors include Daughter: Melissa (Allen) Dolphyn of Dacula, GA; Sister: Donna Carol (Darrell) Moore of Chesterfield, SC; Niece: Sandy Tucker of Chesterfield, SC;

Great Nieces and Nephews: Carrington, Bryant, and Anniston Tucker; Uncle: Don (Bonnie) Bryant of Darlington, SC; Aunt: Pauline B. Hunt of Darlington, SC; Also a number of Cousins.

Marie Moore Gainey

HARTSVILLE – Marie Moore Gainey age 88, went to her Heavenly Home on November 22. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Gary Colboch and Rev. Troy Metzner officiated. Burial was in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Gainey was born in Cheraw a daughter of the late Preston and Alliene Brigman Moore. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was very active in God’s Special People Sunday School Class. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving are one son, Preston Gainey, Hartsville; two grandsons, Nathan (Kristin) Gainey, Charleston and Jesse Gainey, Hartsville; one great grandson, Zayden Gainey, Charleston; one brother, Buddy Moore, Cheraw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey T. Gainey and one daughter, Judy Marie Gainey. Norton Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gainey family. www.nortonfh.net

William Jerry ‘Fireball’ Horton Sr.

HARTSVILLE – Mass of Christian burial for William Jerry "Fireball" Horton, 83, was held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hartsville. Father Karl Roesch was the Celebrant. Final commendation and farewell prayers were in McBee Cemetery where he was interred. The family received friends from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on November 25 at St. Mary Catholic Church Fellowship Hall. Mr. Horton died Monday, November 23, 2015. Born in Chesterfield Co., SC, he was a son of the late Redic and Thelma Horton. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, he served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, was a member of the McBee chapter of the American Legion, and was employed at McLeod Farms for many years. Surviving are his wife, Sally Rhoad Horton of McBee, SC; sons, Billy (Karen) Horton and Michael Horton of McBee, SC; daughter, Barbara (Mark) Clouse of McBee, SC; grandchildren, Joseph Horton, Rebecca Horton, Adam Clouse, Thomas Horton; sister, Patsy Horton of Florence, SC.?

Winford Blue Polston Sr.

BLENHEIM – Mr. Winford Blue Polston, Sr., 88, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2015 at the Rehab Center of Cheraw.

Mr. Polston was born September 29, 1927 in Scotland County, N.C. He was a son of the late Claude Phillip, Sr. and Carrie Mae Wallace Polston. He was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church and was a retired Barber. Mr. Winford enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, and visiting people in the nursing home and home bound folks. He also loved NASCAR and his favorite driver was Carl Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nell Caulder, brothers, C.P. Polston, Jr. and E.L. Polston, great-grandson, Cameron Lane Ard.

Surviving are; sons, Winford Blue "Winky" Polston, Jr. of Hartsville and Evans Williams and wife, Alice, of Bennettsville; daughters, Donna Knight, of Bennettsville, Cathy Long, of Bennettsville, Donna Polston, of Hartsville and Nancy Jaworski, of Hartsville; a sister, Carolyn Schoenfeld, of Stone Mountain, GA; grandchildren, Micah Brown, Drey Frye, Brandy Nolan, Dylan Priest, Brooke Brigman, Gabrielle Aldridge, Jessica Dillard, Robin Jaworski, Julian Jaworski, Jennifer Polston, Dannel Polston, Kyle Hyatt, Jordan Goings, Shea Caulder, Caleb Caulder, Ethan Caulder, Blake Williams, Logan Williams, and Tracie Norton; and 25 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Burroughs & Cooper Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Parnassus United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 until 2 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home.

Betty Sue Hannah Short

CHERAW – Betty Sue Hannah Short, 68, died on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Memorial services were held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1PM from the Flemming Funeral Chapel, Cheraw, SC. She was born on February 20, 1947 to the late Eugene and Bessie Louise Bittle Hannah. She attended the public schools of Chesterfield County, South Carolina and graduated from Gary High School, Class of 1969. Betty retired from Carolina Canners in Cheraw, South Carolina on January 12, 2009. Survivors: a daughter, Angelia Threatt (Douglas), Pageland, SC; a grandson, Lay’Kwan Joyner, Pageland, SC; siblings, Bonnie Cash, Charles Hannah, Jr. (Mamie), Gerald Hannah (Sarah) all of Chesterfield, SC, Shirley Jackson Martin, Wallace, SC and Casthederol Hannah (Elaine), Chesterfield, SC. Flemming Funerals-Cheraw was in charge. .

Naomi Rivers Boatwright

CHERAW - Mrs. Naomi Rivers Boatwright, age 96, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015.

A graveside service was held at 12:00 P.M, Thursday, October 12, 2015 at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 10:45 – 11:45 A.M, Thursday, November 12, 2015 prior to the service at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, 318 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC.

Mrs. Boatwright was born July 7, 1919 in Anson Co., NC a daughter of the late Fred and Mary Liles Rivers. She was a homemaker and a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Naomi enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, shopping, and word puzzles. In addition to her parents Naomi was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene H. Boatwright, son Joe Boatwright, 2 daughters Mary Beth and Annie Ruth Boatwright, infant son, son-in-law Lacy Adams Jr., 4 brothers Fred, Gerar, Mack, and T.C. Rivers and by 2 Sisters, Virginia R. Quick and Mary E. Robinson.

Survivors include 2 Daughters: Margaret A. Adams of Cheraw, SC and Norma J. (Reggie) Short of Morven, NC; 5 Grandchildren: Lacy (Angie) Adams, III, Margaret Wallace, Philip Watson, Julie Moss, and Jonathan Moss; 6 Great Grandchildren: Haley Adams, Derik (Ashli) Adams, Zachary Wallace, Brandi Lunsford, Matthew Watson and Aveya Moss; 1 Great, Great Grandchild: Sophia Lunsford; Also: Nieces and Nephews.

Rachel Grimes Ellis

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Rachel Grimes Ellis, age 80, died Thursday, November 12, 2015.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Mrs. Ellis was born August 23, 1935, in Iron City, TN., a daughter of the late Floyd and Annie McCain Grimes. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and was a former R.N. with Tuomey Healthcare Systems in Sumter, SC and was a retired R.N. with Chesterfield County DHEC. Rachel was a member of Chesterfield Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, Rachel was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Ellis.

Survivors include Son: Dr. Gregory C. (Tamara) Ellis of High Point, NC; Daughter: Marian Leigh Jones of Ashland, OR; Also 5 Grandchildren.

Viola Ratliff

CHESTERFIELD - Viola Ratliff, 66, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 1PM from the McClain Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born on June 27, 1949 to the late Sylvester and Fannie Little Ratliff. Survivors: six sisters, Lottie Mae Rivers, Amanda Jean McCormick, Betty Jean Ratliff, Christine Redfearn, Terri Ratliff and Doris Jean Ratliff of Chesterfield, SC; two brothers, David Ratliff (Patricia), Morven, NC and L. Junior Ratliff (Sheryll), Chesterfield, SC. Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield was in charge. .

W.F. ‘Preacher Bill’ Traywick Jr.

CHESTERFIELD - The Reverend Dr. W.F. “Preacher Bill” Traywick, Jr. age 83, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment followed in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Pageland, SC.

Visitation was from 12:00 – 1:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2015 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Dr. Traywick was born September 23, 1932 in Raeford, NC the son of the late William Floid Traywick and Trula Mae East Traywick. He was a graduate of Mid Atlantic Bible College where he earned his Doctorate of Divinty degree. Dr. Traywick was a true soldier of the cross and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Preacher Bill was a Baptist minister and had pastored Westside Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC and Morven Baptist Church in Morven, NC. He had preached revivals in hundreds of churches in North and South Carolina and other states, and was always a witness for his Lord and Savior wherever he went. Dr. Traywick was a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Association, where he had served on various committees, and as President of the Pastor’s Conference. He was also a member of the SC State Baptist Convention having served on several committees throughout the years and was also a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. Traywick was also one of the founding board members of the Good Samaritan Colony. Preacher Bill will long be remembered for his love for Jesus and his desire to lead others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In addition to his parents, Preacher Bill was also preceded in death by his beloved wife and faithful helpmate in the ministry, Julia Holley Traywick.

Survivors include 1 Son: William Floyd (Crystal) Traywick, III of Windblow, NC; 4 Grandchildren: Hunter Traywick of Pageland, SC, Seth Boland, Hayden Polston, and Machaila Wilkes all of Windblow, NC; 1 Sister: Elizabeth T. McKeithan of Hope Mills, NC.

Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Colony, P.O. Box 38, Ruby, SC 29741.

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Mark Wayne Adams, age 60, died Friday, November 6, 2015 at his home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 9, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Adams was born July 6, 1955 in Detroit, MI a son of the late Wayne Thomas Adams, and the late Billy and Helen Griggs. He was a retired operations manager with Art FX and was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Adams enjoyed his work and travelling. In addition to his parents, Mark was also preceded in death by his sister, Kim Pearce, and his brother, Tommy Adams.

Survivors include 1 Son: Dylan Wayne Adams of Portland, TN; 1 Sister: Mary G. (Jerry) Smith of Ruby, SC; Brother-in-law: Danny G. Pearce of Chesterfield, SC; Nephews: Matthew (Faye) Smith, Daniel (Beth) Pearce both of Chesterfield, SC, Daryl Watson of NC, David Teague of Chesterfield, SC and Joseph Gregory of Ruby, SC; Niece: Destiny Gregory of Chesterfield, SC; Special Friend: Teresa Welch of Chesterfield, SC; Also: Numerous Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

James ‘Jip’ Harris Sr.

CHESTERFIELD – James “Jip” Harris, Sr., 72, died on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 1PM from the Galilee A.M.E. Zion Church, McFarlan, NC. Burial followed in the Chesterfield Community Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. He was born May 12, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Junious Copeland and Novella Harris. James retired from Chesterfield Webbing Manufacturing, with forty-five years of service. He was the first African-American to be employed with the company. His wife, Gloria Jean Little Harris and a daughter Janice Harris Black preceded him in death. Survivors: four daughters, Yvonne (Lee Thomas) Burch, Mrs. Cherryl (Lieutenant Colonel John K.) Melton, both of Cheraw, SC, Susan (Dennis) Johnson, Wadesboro, NC and Shannon K. (Princeton Hill) Harris, Snellville, GA; three sons, James M. (Shuwanda) Harris, Lithonia, GA, Gregory S. Harris, Marietta, GA and James Harris, Jr. of the home; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield was in charge.

Howard J. Judy

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Howard J. Judy, age 91, died Monday, November 2, 2015.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Hopewell Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 4, 2015 prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Judy was born March 7, 1924 in Saint George, SC a son of the late Malcom and Sinclaire Fogle Judy. He was a proud veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, the Hopewell Brotherhood, and the American Legion. One of his proudest moments was traveling with a local group to Washington to view the WW II Memorial. Howard enjoyed fishing, high school football, yard work, and loved to travel. He never met a stranger and loved making people laugh. Mr. Judy was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. In walking by faith, he left a strong legacy of serving Christ to his loving family. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Vera W. Judy; 2 brothers, his twin Homer and Guy Judy; and by 2 sisters, Delores Evans and Marilyn Slister.

Survivors include 2 Daughters: Brenda Gayle (Cecil) McLain, and Linda Ann (Leverne) Shoemake both of Patrick, SC; 1 Sister: Betty Jean (Hampy) Eadon of Saint George, SC;

4 Grandchildren: Michael (JoAnne) McLain of Greenville, SC, Michelle (Pastor Scott) Wallace, Jennifer (Mike) Crawford both of Chesterfield, SC, and Pastor Steven (Vicky) McLain of Spartanburg, SC; 8 Great Grandchildren: Morgan and Nick Wallace; Noah, Zachary, and Ashlyn McLain; Mackenzie and Michael Crawford; and Eli McLain.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, 15066 Hwy. 9, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Robert Steven Lisenby

CHESTERFIELD - Rev. Robert Steven Lisenby, age 75, died Friday, November 6, 2015.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:45 – 1:45 PM Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Rev. Lisenby was born March 17, 1940 in Ruby, SC a son of the late Robert Kimble and Nell Hancock Lisenby. He was a graduate of Coker College and Emory University where he received his Master of Divinity degree. Steven was a retired minister, serving in both the United Methodist Church and later in the Southern Baptist Convention. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodcrafts. Steven also was a handy man, an inventor, and enjoyed collecting clocks.

Survivors include Wife: Lois Anne Aeby of the home; 1 Son: Robert Steven “Steve” Lisenby, II of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Daughter: Susan L. Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; 5 Grandchildren: Jacob, Tori, and Abby Lisenby, and Jesse and Betsy Sellers; 4 Brothers: Roger Lisenby of Blenheim, SC, Richard Lisenby and Andy Lisenby both of Chesterfield, SC, and Greg Lisenby of Bennettsville, SC; 1 Sister: Sara L. Rivers of Singapore; Also: Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
