MT. CROGHAN - Mr. Olin D. Steen, age 76, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery, with Military Honors.??

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 8, 2015 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

?HISTORY: Mr. Steen was born December 15, 1938 in Jefferson, SC, a son of the late William Matthew and Millie Demby Steen. He received a degree in Tool Technology and Textile Management. Mr. Steen was a former Poultry Farm Manager, a former Textile Manager, and a retired employee of Pageland Sand Co. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Steen was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and attended Ruby Church of God. Olin enjoyed fishing, gardening, music, and playing his guitar. In addition to his parents, Olin was also preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Gainey Steen, an infant son, Franklin Steen, and by a brother John Steen.

Survivors include 2 Sons: Richard Steen of Gastonia, NC and Danny (Karen) Steen of Mt. Croghan, SC; 1 Daughter: Millie (Mike) Sullivan of Jefferson, SC; Grandson: Michael Doster of Mt. Croghan, SC; 3 Brothers: Sam (Betty) Steen of Portland, TN, Floyd (Eula) Steen of Ruby, SC, and Roy Steen of Mt. Croghan, SC; Also a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Johnny Edward Tyson

CHARLOTTE - Johnny Edward Tyson, 64, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1PM from the Pageland Community Center Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Gum Springs Baptist Church cemetery, Pageland, SC. He was born on July 5, 1951 in Pageland, SC to Johnsie Lee Johnson Tyson and the late Fletcher Tyson. He was employed at Kavo-Pelton and Crane since 1974. Survivors: wife, Carolyn Myers Tyson; two devoted daughters, Tori Anjenah Tyson and Lori Nicole Tyson-Jamison and her husband, Marcus Darius Jamison; his mother, Johnsie Lee Tyson, three brothers, Thomas (Patsy) Tyson, Roy Lee (Inez) Tyson and Collel (Elaine) Tyson. Flemming Funerals-Pageland was in charge. .

Clara Mae Perdue Brown

PATRICK - Mrs. Clara Mae Perdue Brown, age 89, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at her home.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Patrick Baptist Church.

Interment followed in the Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown was born in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Bert and Alma Odem Perdue. She was a retired employee of Hartsville Manufacturing with over 25 years of service, and a member of Patrick Baptist Church. She enjoyed WWE wrestling, and was an avid John Cena fan. Her other favorite sport was NASCAR racing and pulling for Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed working puzzles, word searches, sewing, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Clara Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. “C.L.” Brown, Jr.; 1 son, Clarence L. “Rocky” Brown, III; 1 daughter, Elaine Brown Rivers; brother, Floyd Perdue; 2 sisters, Shirley Rabon, and Katie Linda Perdue; sister-in-law, Shelby Perdue; son-in-law, Doss Brigman, Jr.; and 1 great grandson, Joshua Davis.

Survivors include 3 Daughters: Diane B. Brigman of Patrick, SC, Harriet B. (Claude) Bailey of Cheraw, SC, and Teresa B. “Chic” (Ernie) Polson of Patrick, SC; 1 Brother: James Perdue of Hartsville, SC; Also: 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Edgar Wayne Chavis

WALLACE - Edgar Wayne Chavis, 61, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Born in Hamlet, NC he was a son of the late Willie Jack and Sarah Smith Chavis. He enjoyed working on washing machines and dryers in his spare time.

Mr. Chavis is survived by his wife Norma Chavis of Rockingham, NC, a son, Jackson W. Chavis of Rockingham, NC, daughters, Autumn S. Chavis, Angela D. Chavis Gomez, and Joni C. Chavis, Lori M. Brown of Rockingham, NC, brothers, Timothy Chavis of Dentsville, SC, and Larry W. Chavis, South Congaree, SC, sisters, Carlene Bonds of Wallace, SC, and Carolyn Bowen of Lexington, SC, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service followed at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel, Cheraw, SC.

Johnny Ray Dixon

CHERAW - Johnny Ray Dixon, 58, died Friday, October 23, 2015. Born in Camden, SC he was a son of Janie Atkinson Brock of Chesterfield, SC and the late John Wesley Dixon. He was Past President of the Cheraw Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a supervisor for INX International.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Melton Dixon of the home, a daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Lynn Dixon (grandchild, Austin Adams) of Cheraw, SC, his mother, listed above, brothers, Joe (Hannah) Dixon of Chesterfield, SC, Dennis (Crystal) Dixon of Chesterfield, SC, Rose (Wayne) Gainey of Chesterfield, SC, Judy (Randy) Turner of Cheraw, SC, Laticia (Tommy) Rivers of Cheraw, SC, 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The family received friends starting at 5:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A memorial service was held at 6:00 PM at the funeral home, visitation will resume following the memorial service.

Nadine C. Gulledge

CHERAW - Nadine C. Gulledge, 58, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Born in Cheraw, SC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Cary and Evon Small Cagle. She was the widow of Mr. Glenn R. Gulledge. Mrs. Gulledge spent her time as a homemaker, taking care of her family.

Mrs. Gulledge is survived by her son, John Thomas Gulledge of the home, a sister, Eunice (David) Parrish of Cheraw, SC, aunts, Pearl (Willard) Kelly of Florence, Sylvia Blackman of Florence, SC, an uncle, Perry “Squeaky” (Barbara) Small of Effingham, SC, a brother-in-law, Ricky Hood of Cheraw, SC, a sister-in-law, Terry (Mike) Welch of Wadesboro, NC, nieces, Cindy (William) Johnson, Jamie Wallace (Kevin Hayes), Amy (Robert) Dial and Lisa Hood, nephews, Austin Welch, Michael Welch, and Jacob Welch, two great nieces, three great nephews and three great-great nieces, and special friends, Pete and Pam Baker, Jim and Cynthia Merritt, Carroll and Cathy O’Neal, and Denise Melton.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents listed above, and a sister Derby Hood.

A visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel, Cheraw, SC.

Dolores E. Van Guilder

CHERAW - Mrs. Dolores E. Van Guilder, age 69, died Friday, October 23, 2015.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Van Guilder was born October 7, 1946 in Cambridge, NY a daughter of the late Donald and Thelma Jones Harrington. She was a retired employee of General Electric with 28 years of service. Mrs. Van Guilder was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Pleasant Grove UMW, and a member of the General Electric Retirees Club. Dolores enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

Survivors include Husband: Paul Van Guilder of the home; Daughter: Teresa A. Jones of Poultney, NY; Son: John Jones of Montana; Sister: Donna Crossman of Greenville, NY; and Niece: Judy Brown of Greenville, NY.

Sue L. Williams

WALLACE - Sue L. Williams, 87, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Born in Lancaster County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Annie Hinson Sims, and the widow of Mr. Ira Braxton “I.B.” Williams, Jr. (She and Mr. “I.B.” were fondly remembered for holding hands everywhere they went.) She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw and part of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She loved the Lord. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Mrs. Williams enjoyed gardening, and cooking.

Surviving are her sons, I.B. Williams, III and his wife Cynthia of Lincolnton, NC, Myron Williams and his wife Terri of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Arlene W. Leviner and her husband James of Rockingham, NC, 5 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents listed above, as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

The family received friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, October22, 2015 in the foyer of the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service followed at 12:00 PM in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial was held in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens following the service.

Martha Mavis Threatt Blakeney
PAGELAND – Martha Mavis Threatt Blakeney, 91, of Pageland, SC died on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2PM from the Rose Hill Baptist Church, Lancaster, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born in Chesterfield County, SC on April 27, 1924 to the late William and Della Threatt. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Hazel Blakeney. Survivors: two sons, George Blakeney (Barbara), Pageland, SC and Randolph Blakeney (Hollis), Lancaster, SC; three daughters, Dallas McCain, Nettie Threatt and Maggie Funderburk (Gene), all of Pageland, SC; 27 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and 35 great great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Pageland was in charge. .

Shirley B. Douglas

Chesterfield – Mrs. Shirley B. Douglas, age 81, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at her home.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall

Mrs. Douglas was born November 16, 1934 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Ned James and Janie Sellers Burch. She was a 1952 graduate of Chesterfield High School. Mrs. Douglas retired from Chesterfield County DSS as business manager with 32 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for 17 years. Shirley was also a member of the Shiloh UMW and the Ladies Bible Class. Her hobbies included working crossword puzzles, crocheting, and meeting with friends to go out and eat. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, T.H. Douglas; 3 brothers, Aubrey Burch, William Burch, James Ellis Burch; 5 sisters, Gladys Gaskins, Dot Gaskins, Ivy Widejko, Sara Neighbors, and Eunice Davis.

Survivors include 1 Son: Jerry (Tammy) Douglas of Lexington, SC; 1 Daughter: Brenda Douglas (Allen) Lookadoo of Cheraw, SC; 3 Grandchildren: David Hamilton of Chesterfield, SC, Thomas Douglas, and Heather (Tommy) Corley both of Lexington, SC; 4 Great Grandchildren: Zachary and Xander Hamilton of Chesterfield, SC, and Maddox and Harper Corley of Lexington, SC; Special Friend: Dicky Davis of Chesterfield, SC; Also: Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Mary Etta Lewis Keith

MCFARLAN, N.C. – Mrs. Mary Etta Lewis Keith, 82, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe, N.C.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The family greeted friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, March 4, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Mary Etta was born May 18, 1933 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Johnny Isiah Lewis and the late Emma Jean Tyner Lewis. She was retired from Saconey Mfg. in Cheraw with 31 years of service and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Whittington of McFarlan and her nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter James Keith and Jim McQuaige and sisters, Laura Phillips, Janie Livingston Moore, Janie Livingston Moore and Lizzie Griggs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, in care of Mildred Lowery, 8998 Diggs Rd., Morven, NC 28119.

Lou Roue Sutton Lee

CHERAW – Mrs. Lou Roue Sutton Lee, age 75, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Westfield Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lee was born February 18, 1941 in Pageland, SC a daughter of the late Woodrow William and Maggie Lena Aline Horne Sutton, and received Christ and was born again in April of 1954. She was a former employee of Norris Interiors, Robertson Factory and J.P. Stevens / Delta Mills from which she retired as supply manager after 32 years of service. Mrs. Lee was a faithful member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, having taught every age from beginners to the senior adult class. She also served as a V.B.S. teacher and was very active on the V.B.S. kitchen committee. Lou Roue was a member of the adult choir and was former youth choir director. She was a member and past president of the W.M.U., member of the bereavement committee, member of the shut-in and nursing home CD outreach ministry, and served on various other committees throughout the years. She was a member of the Cheraw chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron on 5 different occasions, and in other positions within the chapter. Mrs. Lee was also a member of the Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary. Lou Roue was an avid reader who enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, studying God’s word, gardening and preserving vegetables and fruits. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends, especially Trey, Courtney and Louise. She also had a deep love for animals, with dogs being her favorite. Lou Roue was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loving mother to her son-in-law and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Lee was a lady of grace and dignity that always looked and smelled pretty. She freely shared her great faith in and love for Jesus. She will be remembered as a witness of God’s great love and goodness with a great sense of humor who always saw the lighter side. In addition to her parents, Lou Roue was also preceded in death by her husband and soul mate of over 50 years, Richard Rudolph Lee, Sr.; and her brother, V.L. “Buck” Sutton.

Survivors include Children: Richard R. “Ricky” Lee, Jr. and wife Pam; and Carol Lee Hall and husband Ronnie both of Cheraw, SC; Grandchildren: Richard R. “Trey” Lee, III, Courtney E. Lee, William (Lisa) Skipper all of Cheraw, SC, and Rodney (Teresa Moser) Hall of Marshville, NC; Great Grandchildren: Madeline, Samuel and Chandler Lee Hall, Molly and Jodi O’Neal

Sister: Elsie Rutan of Fayetteville, NC; Brothers: Randolph “Dolph” Sutton of Wallace, SC and John David “Johnny” (Pat) of Hartsville, SC; Sister-in-law: Essie Sutton of Cheraw, SC;

Grandsons of Choice: Spence (Jennifer) Vaughn and their children Colin and Addison, and Brent (Brooke) Taylor and their children Anna Belle and Ava; Daughter of the Heart: Lynn Cassidy (John) Sullivan; Special Nieces and Nephews: Nicole Lee (Quetin) Austin, Bobby Lee, Melissa (Clint) Reed, and Shane Reed whom she loved as grandchildren; Sisters of the Heart: Louise Brock (her bestest friend), Barbara Morris, Dorothy Zearfoss, Wanda White, Margaret Jones, and Betty Teal; Special Family Friend: Clinton Ratliff; Numerous Nieces and Nephews; And her fur babies: Socks, Trixie and Sparky.

The family would like to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to Peggy Putnam, RN and Dr. Shawn Charest and the entire staff of McLeod Hospice House, and Dr. John Frank McLeod, III and staff of McLeod Family Medicine, and special caregiver Michaela Gathings for the exceptional love and care shown to Mrs. Lee.

Kurt Liehs

CHERAW – Kurt Liehs, 79, of Cheraw, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born in Mattydale, N.Y. and worked as a partner in the family business, Liehs & Steigerwald. Kurt retired in 1992 and lived his life doing what he loved most. He was an avid sportsman and traveler, from trekking through Africa to exploring the Amazon River. He also cooked for local events such as the Oktoberfest and hosted clambakes and barbecues at his homes in Syracuse and Osceola, N.Y. In 2004, he exchanged lake-effect snow for sunny South Carolina.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Catherine Liehs, and his sister, Hilda Redell.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Liehs and Christine Milback; friend, Susan Redmond; brother, Eric (Gloria) Liehs; four sisters: Sally (Edward) Cummings, Sonia (Edward) Donegan, Cynthia Liehs, and Kathleen (John) O'Hara; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions in Kurt's memory may be sent to Chesterfield Convalescent Center, Activities Dept., P.O. Box 1329, Cheraw, SC 29520.
Private services will be held by the family.
