Jeffrey D. Ingle

California native

ENOREE - Jeffrey David Ingle, 44, of 106 Jones Road, Enoree, husband of Carmen Crubaugh Ingle, died Jan. 2, 2003, at 7:12 p.m. in the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after an extended illness. Mr. Ingle was born in Ventura, Calif. on Sept. 17, 1958, a son of Mary Edna Basin Ingle of Union and the late Paul Elmore Ingle.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Tessa Marie Ingle of the home; four sons, Jeff David Ingle of Cowpens, David Douglas Ingle, Anthony Bendict Ingle and Clayton Andrew Ingle all of the home; four sisters, Lyndia Lea Fisher of Buffalo, Cheryl Ann Fowler, Connie Sue Ingle and Rhonda Kaye Ingle all of Union; and five brothers, Paul Edward Ingle of Illinois; Roger Michael Ingle of California; Ronald Dean Ingle and Clint Tyrone Ingle both of Union and Loren Timothy Ingle of Buffalo.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. The family is at the home, 106 Jones Road, Enoree. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Sarah Noland
Retired from City of Union

Sarah Noland, 71, of 1108 South Pinckney Street, died Jan. 2, 2003, at 9:36 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness. Miss Noland was born in Union on April 1, 1931, a daughter of the late George Stoud and Pearl Keisler Noland. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Miss Noland was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1949 and was retired records clerk for the City of Union.

Surviving are a nephew and his wife, George and Nancy Faucette of Shelby, N.C.; a niece, Brandy Faucette of Columbia; and two cousins, Wallace Keisler and Mrs. Thurston (Mary) Garner both of Union. Miss Noland was predeceased by a sister, Molly N. Faucette; a brother, George Russell Noland; and a nephew, Jimmy Faucette.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Charlie Horne. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Norris Fowler, Sam White, Russell Roark, Steve Willard, William Holcombe and Tony Gregory.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her nephew, George Faucette, 1201 W. Main St., Union. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, P.O. Box 672, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Victoria A. Gunning
Retired from Ottaray Mill

Victoria (Vickie) Allen Gunning, 90, of Oakmont Nursing Home, formerly of 222 S. Boyce St., Union, widow of Arvel (Bo) Gunning, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 10:15 a.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness. Mrs. Gunning was born in Lockhart on March 20, 1913, a daughter of the late James and Beulah Grant Allen. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and was retired from Milliken & Co., Ottaray Plant.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann G. Jones and Helen G. Allison, both of Union, a brother, Raymond Allen of Lockhart; five grandchildren, Joey Allison, Jackie Allison, Vicki Allison Gregory, Steve Beard and Kenneth Beard; nine great-grandchildren, Destiney Allison, Brandon Allison, Alyssa Allison, Tyler Allison, Hunter Allison, Brad Allison, Sharon Ann Temples, Karen Willis and Stephanie Beard; a great-great-grandson, Cody Dale Temples.

Mrs. Gunning was predeceased by a brother and seven sisters. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and the Rev. Jerry McGee. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Ann Jones, Apt. 3D, 222 S. Boyce St., Union and at the home of her grandson, Jackie Allison, 121 Pineforest Road, South Hills, Union. Memorials may be made to the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church Building Fund, 1433 Lockhart Hwy., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Geneva Evans
Cheraw native

Geneva Evans, 82, of 1081 Old Buncombe Road, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at her home. She was born May 6, 1923 in Cheraw to the late Willie and Mary Hailey Funderburk. Surviving is a daughter, Geneva Woods of Union. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gibson & Brown Chapel. The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lavern M. Gregory
Retired LPN

Lavern Moore Gregory, 88, widow of Ben Gregory of 108 John Cody Church Road, Union, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Gregory was born in the Monarch Community on Sept. 6, 1915, a daughter of the late Jud and Ola Cannon Moore. She was a retired LPN with Wallace Thomson Hospital and a member of Brown's Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Grace G. and Tommy Nave, Rachel G. and Donald Howell and Bennie G. and Glen Crisp, all of Union; a brother, the Rev. Paul Moore of Union; a granddaughter, Debbie Crisp Pierce of Union; six other grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown's Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Stover. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gregory's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. The family is at her home, 108 John Cody Church Road, Union, S.C. 29379.

William Henry
Union County native

DETROIT, Mich. William (Shack) Henry, husband of Florence Henry, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. He was a son of the late Felica Vann Henry and Mary Woodward Henry. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters, Ethel Lee Henry and Hattie Ree Neal, both of Carlisle; a sister-in-law, Gloria Henry of Carlisle; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at Stinson Funeral Home, 165-40 Meyers St., Detroit, Mich. Stinson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Raymond Jolly
World War II veteran

George Raymond Jolly, 85, widower of Ruby Sinclair Jolly, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Jolly was born April 19, 1918 in Union, a son of the late Milton H. and Irene Young Jolly. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he was very active in the Brotherhood for a number of years and also served as head usher. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as sergeant in the U.S. Army. Mr. Jolly was a butcher and owner and operator of Jolly's Market for over 30 years.

Surviving are three sisters, Lillian J. Bentley of Union, Nell J. Crawford of Salem Crossroads and Margaret J. Gregory of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; a brother, C.B. Jolly of Union and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Forrest Davis and the Rev. David Toney. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8. The family is at the home of his brother, C.B. Jolly, 365 Mt. Vernon Road, Union.

James F. Phillips
Retired counselor

James F. (Chigger) Phillips, 52, of 102 Churchill St., died at his home Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 after a sudden illness. Mr. Phillips was born in Union, Aug. 1, 1951, a son of Fred Jackson Phillips of the home and the late Martha James Phillips. He was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1970, a graduate of Baptist College of Charleston and attended the Southeastern Theological Seminary. He was a retired counselor with the Union County Alcohol and Drug Commission and formerly was employed with the Marshall Pickens Hospital in Greenville.

Mr. Phillips was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his father are his step-mother, Betty Moore Phillips of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth P. and Blane Lancaster of Union; a son, Sam Phillips of Union; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa P. and David Gregory of Union; a step-brother, Phil Moore and his wife, Vickie; a niece, Kacie Gregory of Union; two nephews, Kevin Gregory of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Kyle Gregory of Union; and two step-nieces, Victoria and Karli Sue Moore of Union.

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a son, Ashley James Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home by the Rev. Roger Plemmons, the Rev. Bobby Crocker and the Rev. Joe Smith. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Don Cody, Kevin Gregory, Kyle Gregory, Mike Phillips, David Phillips and Ralph Phillips Jr.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30. H. Dean Walker
Retired school administrator

H. Dean Walker, 70, of 107 Rosewood Terrace, Union, husband of Peggy Ijames Walker, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at 1:43 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Walker was born in Union County on Dec. 6, 1933, a son of the late J.B. Walker and Mary Sumner Walker. Mr. Walker was a graduate of Union High School and Newberry College with a BS degree. He earned his MA degree from Western Carolina University and subsequently completed studies for a graduate degree from the University of South Carolina. He began teaching with the Union County School System in 1960. He later served as a principal of Carlsan Elementary School and Monarch Elementary School.

In 1991 he retired as director of special services after having served in this capacity for more than 20 years. Mr. Walker was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a former scoutmaster and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Terry D. Walker and wife, Laura, of Ridge Spring, Robin D. Walker and wife, Margaret, of Spartanburg and John Christopher Walker and wife, Susan, of Asheville, N.C.; his beloved grandchildren, Kelly Elizabeth Walker and Adam Davis Walker; a sister, Patsy W. Johnson and husband, Louis of Huntsville, Ala.; two nephews, Dale Farmer and wife Sharon of Burlington, Conn., and Mark McDade and wife Shelly of Anderson; and a niece, Lisa McDade of Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chad Jenkins, Charlie Jenkins, Will Hickson, Don Raye Shetley, Mike Cassels and Gordon Roberson. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 and will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service.

Pallie B. West
Retired textile employee

Pallie Bledsoe West, 95, widow of James H. West, of 312 Putman Road, Buffalo, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. West was born in Blackwater, Va., on Sept. 30, 1908, a daughter of the late Floyd and Essie Robinette Bledsoe. She was a Baptist. Mrs. West was a retired textile employee and a housewife.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Emma Jean Babb and husband, James, and Ollie Mae Brock and husband John, both of Buffalo; two sisters, Sally B. Haney and Margaret B. Hogan, both of Union; a brother, Floyd Bledsoe Jr. of Rome, Ga., 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Joan Craddock of Spartanburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman, the Rev. Ray Harold Belue and the Rev. Chad Lawson. Burial will be in the Putman Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harold Gregory, Brad Lawson, Scotty Childres, William Parks, Jerry Burgess, Harold David West, Tony Peay and Dean Haney.

The following are asked to assemble at the funeral chapel Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Ernest O'Shields, Gene Quinn, Dean Quinn, Marvin Babb, Dr. Gerald Fielder, Bruce Lawson and Dr. David Keith. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 9.

The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Debra Babb, 312 Putman Road, Buffalo, and at the home of her daughter, Ollie Mae Brock, 248 Putman Road, Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Union County Cancer Service, c/o Ola Jean Kelly, 117 Fant Lane, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Blitchington
Retired from Milliken

Beatrice Viola Henderson Blitchington, 67, widow of Edward Blitchington of 209 Hicks St., Union, died Jan. 4, 2003, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Blitchington was born on Feb. 23, 1935, in Union, a daughter of the late Jack and Carrie Lunette Whitehead Henderson. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Blitchington was retired from Milliken & Company, Monarch Plant.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include four daughters, Doshia Diane Dupree of Spartanburg, Carrie Elaine Jones of Union, Martha Leverne Grant of Blacksburg and Patricia Lynn Blitchington of the home; a son, Charles Allen Blitchington of the home; five grandchildren: Rhonda Kay Ingle, Melissa Lynn Jones, Justin Jones and his wife, Amy; Ashlee Kristen Dupree and Courtney Jean Blitchington; three great-grandchildren: Kayla Alexis Jones, Khristopher David Jones and Brianna Joe Jones; a niece, Theresa Joyner of Columbia; a nephew, Mark Joyner of Spartanburg.

Mrs. Blitchington was predeceased by a son, Clarence Edward Blitchington; a daughter, Margie Bernice Brooks; and a sister, Mary Joyner. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Warren Jones and the Rev. John J. Cody Jr. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

The body will be taken to the home, 209 Hicks St., today, where the family will receive friends. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 1338 Santuck-Carlisle Highway, Union; or to the Greater Union Church, P.O. Box 709, Union, 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ingle was predeceased by a nephew, Christopher Scott Fisher. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Clint Tyron Ingle, Dennis Fowler, Donald Rhinehart, Joey Winzenried, James Trammell and Jeffrey Gregory.

The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. The family is at the home of Timothy Ingle, 352 Linersville Road, Buffalo. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
