Geraldine Morrison Bradley

A memorial service for Mrs. Geraldine Morrison Bradley will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC with Rev. Donald Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, online contributions may be made to www.cfmt.org

Mrs. Bradley, 77, of Lexington, SC, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at her residence.

A daughter of the late Clyde and Beulah Eveland Morrison, she was born in Sikeston, MO and was a retired office manager and member of Lexington Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Mitchell Inman and a brother, Robert E. Morrison.

She is survived by her husband, Orrin Bradley of Lexington; daughters, Judy Dicus of Yucon, OK and Laura Elliott of Cheshire, CT; sisters, Betty L. Zimmerman of Granite City, IL and Corena S. Ward of Granite City, IL; and brothers, Allen D. Morrison of Fredricktown, MO, William Morrison of Pontoon Beach, IL and Tommy R. Morrison of St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rafael Garcia Catala, Sr. 84, of Aiken, died Sunday July 15, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Billy Ray Williamson

Billy Ray Williamson, 86, of Aiken, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, following an illness.

John Brumfield

On July 18, 2012 the Brumfield Family lost their oldest brother John Brumfield. He died in University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia from an unknown source.

He was 80 years old and born on March 17, 1932. He was the second of 17 children born to his parents Gene and Mary Manning Brumfield of Huntington, West Virginia both of whom preceded in death along with 9 other brothers and sisters. He is survived by 3 sister's, Thelma McCallister, Phyllis Lee and Linda Fizer of Huntington, West Virginia and 4 brothers Charles and Floyd Brumfield with whom he made his home in North Augusta, South Carolina. William Lee Brumfield of California, and Michael (Mike) Brumfield residing in Charleston, West Virginia.He also leaves behind 18 nieces and nephews.

John served 22 years in the United States Army which we are all very proud of as well as himself. His absence will also be felt by 3 lifelong friends, Nell Brumfield, Ray Westcott and Paul (Ike) Stambaugh.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday at SC Cremation & Burial Society, 1910 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Graniteville, SC 29829. Burial will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, in North Augusta, will military honors. The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm, Monday at SC Cremation & Burial Society.

The family request that no flowers be sent.

Rest in Peace John as we will miss you very much.

Jose Anibal Santiago, 68, of Lexington, SC, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at WJB Dorn VA hosipital in Columbia.

Barbara Carol Lemme

A Requiem Mass for Miss Barbara Carol Lemme, will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow at a later date in Rhode Island.

Miss Lemme, 66, of Aiken, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at her residences after an extended illness. A daughter of the late John and Mary Rembijas Lemme, she was born in Woonsocket, RI and had lived in Aiken since 1988.

Miss Lemme was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass and was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.

Family members are: a sister, Patricia Lauzon of Aiken, brother (deceased) John Francis Lemme and his wife, Emily of Aiken a sister, Del Desrosiers of Aiken; nephews, Michael and Jeremy MaClure of Aiken; nieces, Andrea and Susan Chase, Erica Neal and Sara Williams all of Aiken.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Charles Robert Booth

Charles Robert Booth, 60, of Aiken, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers following an illness.

Arthur Wilson Hunt

Graveside funeral services, with full honors, for Mr. Arthur Wilson Hunt will take place at Ft. Jackson National cemetery, Columbia, SC at 1:00pm on Friday, August 10, 2012. SC Cremation & Burial Society is assisting the family.

Mr. Hunt, 67, of Columbia, died Tuesday August 7, 2012 at Providence Hospital Northeast.

A son of the late Arthur Bernard Hunt and Ruby Wilson Hunt, he was born in Columbus OH and served twenty three years in the US Air Force, spending twelve years as a vehicle operations supervisor and then ten years as a recruiter. During his career, he received three commendation medals and two meritorious service medals. He was honorably discharged in 1989 and which time he retired in Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy T. Hunt, Columbia and two sons, Rodney B. (Kelley) Hunt, Columbia and Chad J. (Julie) Hunt Eaton, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kyle, Nathan, Dustin, Jarrett, Evan and Logan.

Mary Settles

Mrs. Mary Settles, 98, of Trenton, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Aiken. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Edgefield.

Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, Aiken, was in charge of arrangements.

Pete Sherlock

Mr. Pete M. Sherlock, 85, of Mistletoe Court in North Augusta, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced.

John Henry “Hen” Simpkins

Mr. John Henry “Hen” Simpkins, of Edgefield, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. G. L. Brightharp officiating. Burial was in Simmon Ridge Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Betty (William) Gilliam; nephews, Ricky Miles, Robert Oliphant and Ernest (Shirley) Simpkins; a niece, Angelia Oliphant; a god-niece, Ashley Blalock; great nieces, Bianca Miles, Brianna Oliphant; great nephews, Antjuan Miles, Tony Miles; great-great-niece, Tyanna Miles; great-god-nephew, a family friend, Shannon Hilton; and other relatives.

G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, Edgefield, was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Eugene Polk

Daniel Eugene Polk, 79, of Brunson, died Monday, August 20, 2012.

Jeffrey Bruce Gorsline

Mr. Jeffrey Bruce Gorsline, of Trenton, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 in Augusta, Ga. Mr. Gorsline, husband of Mrs. Bettie Ruth Gorsline, loved his wife, family and his friends and will be deeply missed.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

McNeill Funeral Home, Martinez, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Whayne Maxwell

Mrs. Katherine Whayne Maxwell, 88, of Edgefield, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at Edgefield United Methodist Church, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Maxwell was a native of England, Ark. She was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Maxwell Ghee, Monticello, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kim Greene, Windsor, David Felder, Lithonia, Ga., Denise Worley, Franklin Springs, Ga., James Felder, Monticello, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She is survived by a special dog, Gracie.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Mr. James H. Maxwell, and her great- grandson, Jantzen Bradley.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.org or the American Legion Post # 30, 304 Gray St. Edgefield, S.C. 29824.

Charles Willis Koons

A memorial service for the Rev. Charles Willis Koons, 76, of Johnston, was held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta, Ga. Burial will take place at a later date at Bethel Lutheran cemetery.

The Rev. Koons, a native of Springfield, Ohio, died Sunday, July 17, 2011. born on October 14, 1934, he was a son of Wade H. and Katharine H. Koons. Most of his early years, he lived in Carey, Ohio. He graduated from Parkersburg West Virginia High School in 1952. In 1956, he graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He then attended Northwestern Lutheran Seminary in Minneapolis, Minn. and graduated with a master of divinity degree in June, 1959.

He was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) in 1959 after which he served parishes in Toledo, Ohio and Anniston, Ala. In 1967, he responded to a call from the LCA Mission Board to serve as pastor of St. Peters Lutheran Church and Administrator of St. Peters School in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa where he served for seven years. After returning to the United States in 1971, he served a parish in Florence, Ala. where he met and married Nelle Bowling Locker. In 1990, they moved to Johnston, where he pastored St. John Lutheran Church until his retirement in 2000.

At this time, he and his wife became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken. He then served as visitation pastor at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta, Ga.

He continued there until his death. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janet (Charles) Quillen of Madison, Ala.; a son, Al (Elise) Locker of Westford, Maine; four grandchildren, Rachel Quillen, Patrick Quillen, Alex Locker and Kirsten Locker; a sister, Nancy (Rev. Bruce) Pederson and her family of Minneapolis, Minn.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901, St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Road, Aiken, SC 29803, or Edgefield County Hospital, P. O. Janet F. Coleman

Mrs. Janet Forrest Coleman, 46, of Wells Rd., wife of David D. Coleman, died July 10, 2011 at her residence. Funeral Services were held Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 10 A.M. at Edgefield United Methodist Church with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.

Mrs. Coleman was born in Augusta, Ga. and was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Forrest and Doris Porter Forrest of North Augusta. She was a registered nurse at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Edgefield, S.C.

Survivors include her husband, her mother, 1 Daughter- Jessica (Jason) Viseth Johnston, 2 Sons- Forrest W. Coleman, Porter D. Coleman both of Edgefield; 1 Brother- Gene Forrest III, Johnston; 2 Step-sisters- Linda Berberich San Antonio, TX, Cynthia D. Forrest, Columbia, S.C.; and 2 Grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Edgefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25 Edgefield, S.C. 29824. The family is at the home and will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mrs. Myra Long Wise Smith

Mrs. Myra Long Wise Smith, 94, of Johnston, wife of the late J. Maurice Smith Sr., died on July 8, 2011 at Edgefield County Hospital.

A Graveside service was be held at 10:00 am on Monday July 11, 2011 at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park between Edgefield and Johnston on SC Hwy 23. Mrs. Smith was a native of Edgefield County born in Trenton of the late Burda Eugenia Long Wise and Walter William Wise Sr. She attended Coker College, received her bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian College, and then taught at Johnston Elementary School.

She was the Edgefield County School District Lunchroom Supervisor from 1964 through 1971. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Old Ninety Six District Chapter of the NSDAR and served twice as chapter regent. She was a charter member of the Country Gardeners, Trenton, SC, and a former member of the Edgefield Genealogical Society, Edgefield Historical Society, and Johnston Women’s Club. She was a lifelong member of Trenton Presbyterian Church until joining Our Savior Episcopal Church, Trenton, SC. Mrs. Smith is survived by four children: Mary Jean S. Dowling (Andy), Sumter, SC; Ann S. Day (Danny), Johnston, SC; Myra Long Smith, Columbia, SC; Elizabeth Smith, Smyna, GA; six grandchildren: Drew Dowling (Debbie), Concord, NC; Elizabeth Dowling Boland (Hank), Chicago, Il; J. Maurice Smith III (Christine) Decatur Il; Chrissy S. Wilson (Mark) Lexington, SC; Amy Day Holmes (Woody), Trenton, SC; Daniel Day (Krissee), Pawley’s Island, SC and eight great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters Ann W. Herlong, Johnston, SC, Jean W. Stogner, High Point, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband J. Maurice Smith Sr., her son J, Maurice Smith Jr., and a brother Walter W. Wise Jr. The Family wants to thank Shadow Oaks Assisted Living of Aiken, Trinity Mission H & R of Edgefield, and Lorene Gilchrist for their compassionate care given to Mrs. Smith in the last four years of her life. Memorials may be made to Trenton Presbyterian Church, c/o Ms. Helen Summers, PO Box 161, Trenton, SC 29847 or to the charity of your choice. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family is at the home of her daughter Ann Day and will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday July 10, 2011 at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Kenneth Fountain

Johnston, S.C. Funeral services for Kenneth (Oleo) Fountain, age 57, will be held Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Bland Funeral Home at 2 pm with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 6-8 pm.
Mr. Fountain, died Friday, July 1, 2011. He was a son of Marjorie Wright Ouzts and the late M. H. Fountain. He was a self employed farmer and was of Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife: Ellen Fountain; stepsons: James Clayton Hilllis and Ricky Donaldson; stepdaughters: Allison Elizabeth Smith, Rhonda Donaldson, and Michelle Williams; brothers: Charles Reese (Marlene) and Thomas Reese; sister: Amelia Snipes (Harry), his Mother and a number of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving stepfather: Quinton Ouzts, Jr. and sister: Brenda Carolyn Reese.
