Robert Jordan

FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mr. Robert Jordan will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens directed by Peoples Funeral Service of Florence.

Mr. Jordan died Saturday Jan. 12.

He was born in Florence County a son of the late Isaiah and Marie Bennett Jordan. He attended the public schools of Florence County and was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Choir and was a retired brick mason.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Pearline Waiters Jordan; three daughters, Carol J. Clarkson of Columbia, Loriann Jordan of Wilmington and Sherry Jordan of Greenville; a sister, Vera J. Chestnut of Bennettsville; six grandchildren, April Clarkson, J.R. Clarkson, Antoine Jordan, Leshan Daniel, Meghan Jordan and Hailey Clarkson; many other relatives and friends.

Charles D. Anderson

HOPKINS -- Services for Charles D. Anderson, 75, will be at 2 p.m. today at Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Drive in Columbia with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Garden City Chapel, 316 Dogwood Drive N., Garden City Beach, SC 29576; Shandon Baptist Church New Piano Fund, 5250 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29205; or the Charles D. Anderson Scholarship Fund, Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society, 115 Atrium Way, Suite 128, Columbia, SC 29223.

Mr. Anderson died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 at the Heart Center of Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. born in Darlington on Sept. 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Dewey and Vina Anderson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, World War II. He began his career with Woodmen of the World in 1951 and retired in 1991 after having served as a field representative, district manager and area manager. At the time of his retirement, he had completed 20 years as state manager and 12 years as a national director of WOW. He was the first state manager in the nation to serve on the National Director Board.

Mr. Anderson was active in Columbia Rotary Club and was designated as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was awarded the Outstanding Big Brother award for the Pee Dee Area of South Carolina.

Active in Garden City Chapel, Mr. Anderson served as a trustee for that institution for nearly a quarter of a century. Several years ago, he was named a life trustee. He was a very active member of Shandon Baptist Church. He served as South Carolinas trustee to Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in San Francisco.

Mr. Anderson was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for several years, serving as state chairman in the early '90s. Under his leadership the WOW in South Carolina established a college scholarship program for Woodmen youth. This scholarship program now carries the name of Charles D. Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was president of Anderson Builders, Inc.

The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr. C. Dorn Smith and Dr. H. Wade Collins.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Lois; a daughter, Electa Allen Anderson of Hopkins; brother and sister-in-law, Milton Orville and Carolyn Anderson of Darlington; sisters, Frances Collins of Darlington, Doris Miles and her husband Reese of Lake City, Vivian Strickland and her husband Harold of Darlington, and Peggy James of Lake Wales, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harry Lewis

PAMPLICO -- Funeral services for Mr. Harry Lewis will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at St. Luke AME Church with the Rev. Archie Temoney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Peoples Funeral Home of Pamplico.

Mr. Lewis, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 13 in Carolinas Hospital System after an illness.

He was born in Florence County, a son of the late English Shird and Ethel Shird. He attended Florence County public schools and was a member of St. Luke AME Church. He was a member of The Six Bright Stars, Evangelist Gospel Singers, St. Luke Gospel Wonder Choir and St. Luke Men's Choir.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Estelle B. Lewis of the home; a daughter, Harriet (Gene) Lewis of Pamplico; four grandchildren, Solander Lewis, Ray D. Hugee, Erica Hugee and LaGena Dorsey, and two great-grandchildren, Causal Wallace and Tyra Lewis, all of Pamplico; three aunts, Missy Bridget of Washington, D.C., Hazel (Bubby) Dyson of Florence and Sadie Gibbs of Pamplico; two sisters-in-law, Ola (Allen) Lewis of Pamplico and Nettie (Mack) Mention of Florence; and two brothers-in-law, Walter (Clara) Belin of New York and Austin (Mary) Belin of New Jersey.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 614 Third Ave., Pamplico.

Milton Johnson

FLORENCE -- Funeral services for Mr. Milton Johnson will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. He died on January 11, 2002 after a brief illness.

born in Florence County, he was the son of Solomon and Moudestine Slater Johnson.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Leon Vereen; granddaughter, Angelica R. Vereen; four sisters, Miriam (Rufus) Williams, Barbara (James) Green, George Ann (Slyvester) Williamson, and Teresa Johnson; three brothers, Ronnie Johnson, Leon Johnson, and Curry Johnson; nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends.

James Cecil 'Bully' Parrott

DARLINGTON -- Funeral service for Mr. James Cecil "Bully" Parrott will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 in St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cooper cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Parrott died Monday, Jan. 14 at the home of a sister, Ms. Georgia M. James, after a long illness. He was born in Darlington, a son of the late Willie and Marie Mingo Parrott.

He attended Darlington County schools and was a life member of St. James United Methodist Church. He lived most of his life in Darlington where he was employed by Bonnoitts Feed and Seed until his health failed.

Survivors include four children, James Anthony Parrott of Columbia, Mrs. Tonya (Brian) Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Calvin Bernard (Barbara) Parrott of Mt. Pleasant and Ms. Rita Parrott of Gainesville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Parrott and Thomas (Marcella) Parrott, both of New York City; three devoted sisters, Ms. Georgia M. James, Ms. Marie Ruth and Ms. Gertrude Rogers, all of Darlington; adopted sisters, Ms. Pearl Brewer of Hartsville, Ms. Aileen DeLoach and Ms. Ruth Johnson, both of Darlington; three aunts, Mrs. Emily Booker, Mrs. Gertrude Harold and Mrs. Alice L. Walker, all of Darlington; nieces; and nephews.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister at 409 Syracuse St., Darlington.

Heaven Anonda McDaniels Williams

DARLINGTON -- Graveside service for Infant Heaven Anonda McDaniels Williams will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Hart No. 2 cemetery directed by Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 19, 2002, a daughter of Connie McDaniels Williams and Troy Kevin Williams.

Other survivors include a brother, Kelsen Williams; maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Boyd and Mamie McDaniels of Darlington; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Plowden of Florence; paternal grandfather, the late John Curry; great grandmothers, Mrs. Ola Bell McDaniel of Darlington and Mrs. Catherine Williams of Florence.

Mary M. Price

FLORENCE -- Mary McCorkle Price, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in a local convalescent center after an illness.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Mount Hope cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

She was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Edgar A. and Mable Gentry McCorkle. She was an identification officer with the Florence Police Department.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Police Retirement Association.

Mrs. Price was the widow of former Chief of Police Julian A. Price.

Survivors include two daughters, Genie S. Shake of Florence and Riley S. Pelzer of Mesa, Arizona; two grandchildren; and a niece, Sally G. Jones of Florence.

Eva K. Odom

DARLINGTON -- Eva K. Odom, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Odom, wife of the late Alston Odom, was born in Darlington County the daughter of the late Liston and Bannie Knotts. She was employed by Nytronics for a number of years and was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church.

Surviving are seven sons, Hubert Odom, Weldon Odom, Bobby Odom, Barry Odom and Lee Odom, all of Darlington, Danny Odom of Latta, and Dusty Odom, also of Darlington; two daughters, Margie Dennis and Myrna Asaro, both of Darlington; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Doris Bray Woodham

FLORENCE -- Doris Rilda Bray Woodham, 82, of Florence died early Monday morning, Jan. 21, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mrs. Woodham was born in Florence, a daughter of the William James and Breta Eugenia Hodge Bray. She attended Northgate Baptist Church. She was a former member of the U.S. Army and was a retired engraver.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Harley and Colie Woodham.

Surviving are one brother, Billy Bray of Florence; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Dorothy J. Johnson

FLORENCE -- Dorothy J. Johnson, 63, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at her residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Mullins, a daughter of the late Austin and Gertrude Williamson Johnson. She was a retired supervisor with Electro Motive and was the widow of Fate Willie Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Johnson Stewart and a son, Kenneth Harley Johnson.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Sherman) Shores and Judy Johnson; two sons, Randy Johnson and Bobby Joe Johnson, all of Florence; a brother, Rev. Bert Johnson of Pittsville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a special friend, James Curry of Florence.

Arthur Johnson 'Sonny' McCain Jr.

FLORENCE -- Arthur Johnson "Sonny" McCain Jr., 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 at his residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at the funeral home.

Mr. McCain was born in Florence a son of the late Arthur J. McCain Sr. and Dorothy Koopman McCain. He was a graduate of McClenaghan High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a former owner and manager of McCain's Motel and Restaurant and former operations supervisor of Magnolia Mall. Mr. McCain attended Southside Baptist Church, was a member of the Pee Dee Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and was a volunteer fireman with the Windy Hill Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Amy; a daughter, Cindy; a sister, Sandra; grandson, David, and granddaughter, Ashley.

Louise H. Gray

DARLINGTON -- Louise Hatchell Gray, 71, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 22, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at High Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gray was born in Florence County the daughter of the late Calvin Hartwell and Annie Timmons Hatchell. She was a member of High Hill Baptist Church and involved in many civic organizations.

Surviving are her husband, Rupert Gray of the home; three sons, Al (Margee) Gray of Chester, Calvin (Mary) Gray and Robbie Gray, both of Darlington; five grandchildren; a sister, Frances Hatchell of Florence; and a brother, John (Linda) Hatchell of Darlington.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Ann Talbert

DARLINGTON -- Funeral service for Miss Betty Ann Talbert will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 in Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Gee officiating. Burial will follow in Cooper cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.

Miss Talbert, 40, died Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Darlington. She was born in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Essie Mae Gee Haynes and the late Jimmy Talbert.

She received her formal education in Darlington County public schools and attended The Hope Christian Center in Darlington.

Survivors include two children, Bettina Talbert and Alonzo Tyon Talbert of Darlington; two sisters, Ms. Carolyn (James) Smith of Darlington and Ms. Barbara (Bernard) Davidson of Statesville, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Bacote of New York; two aunts, Mrs. Lillie Mae (Jack) Lunn of Darlington and Mrs. Rosa Lane of East Elmhurst, N.Y.; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

A brother, Willie Gee, preceded her in death.

The family is receiving friends at the home of a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and James Smith of 305 Pineville Road, Darlington.
