Livia Cora Bone

FLORENCE -- Livia Cora Bone, 94, of 912 Old Wallace Gregg Road, Florence, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bone was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Buford and Lou Pearice Flowers. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and the Scott Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. "Buck" Bone; by a son, James B. "Boss" Bone; and by a grandson, David Ward.

Surviving are two sons, J. Clyde (Louise) Bone and Van R. (Ina Mae) Bone, both of Florence; a daughter, Daisy Jeffords of Florence; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Bone of Florence; a sister, Rhoda Poston of Johnsonville; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a very special family friend, Louise Nichols of Florence.

She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren and was a grandma to everyone.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

John H. Foxworth

GEORGETOWN -- John H. Foxworth, 71, a retired power house operator for International Paper, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 in the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15 in Center Bay Baptist Church in upper Georgetown County. Officiating will be Dr. Rick Henderson and the Rev. Bobbie Martin. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown, will follow in the church cemetery.

He was born April 11, 1930 in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Lawrence Chesley Foxworth and Helen Alice Davis Foxworth.

Mr. Foxworth retired from International Paper in 1993 with 44 years of service. He had lived most of his life in Georgetown and after retiring moved to the Folly Grove Community where he enjoyed his farm. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club with International Paper. He was a member of Center Baptist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma T. Foxworth; two son, Keith R. Foxworth and his wife Rebecca of Florence and Dexter Foxworth and his wife Jo Anne of Georgetown; a daughter, Lisa F. Beam and her husband Chuck of Mooresville, N.C.; two brothers, Cecil Foxworth of Pawleys Island and L.C. Foxworth of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bernie Elbert Huggins

JOHNSONVILLE -- Bernie Elbert Huggins, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in a Florence hospital.

Mr. Huggins was born in Mobile, Ala., a son of the late Thomas G. Huggins and Lizzie Bell Wallace. He was a retired carpenter with Seaboard Coastline Railroad, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mr. Huggins was married to the late Ida Ruth Perry Huggins.

Surviving are a son, Randy Huggins of Johnsonville; two daughters, Susan H. Lewis of Hemingway and Linda H. Marsh of Conway; three sisters, Daisy Bell Perry of Wentworth, Ga., Christine Kendall of Alexandria, Va. and Emily Dean of Angier, N.C.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Dale Johnson, 2044 Capitola Road, Johnsonville, S.C. 29555.

Mary Ella McMillian

FLORENCE -- Mary Ella Fowler McMillian, 80, of 1368 E. Old Marion Highway, Florence, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. McMillian was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Everette C. Fowler Sr. and the late Mary Ella Streett Fowler. She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church and was a retired restaurant owner and operator.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivor James McMillian Sr., who died in 1999, and by a son, Everette Wallard McMillian Sr., who died in 1996.

Survivors are a son, Ivor James (Crystal) McMillian Jr. of Florence; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Lane of Florence and Linda M. (Larry) Ross of Tifton, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Janice Lee McMillian of Florence; a sister, Peggy Fowler Bone of Florence; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Alton Curtis Nexsen

KINGSTREE -- Alton Curtis Nexsen, 53, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Nexsen was born in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Violet Green Nexsen Davis and the late Elmore Nexsen. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a retired employee of Santee Electric Co-op.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and stepfather, Jimmy Davis of Kingstree, are his wife, Shelby Smith Nexsen of Kingstree; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Karen Green of Kingstree; sister, Gail (BoBo) Lee of Kingstree; brother, Jerry E. (Angela) Nexsen of Manning; granddaughter, Lacey Annette Green of Kingstree; and nephews, Brian Nexsen, Greg Lee and William Lee.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.

Vernon Shelby Williamson Sr.

DILLON -- Vernon Shelby Williamson Sr., 73, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Regency Hospital in Florence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Little Rock Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

born in Dillon County, Nov. 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Dan Williamson and Emma Lee Bennett Williamson. He was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Muriel Williamson of Dillon; daughter, Cindy Williamson of Anderson; son, Vernon Shelby Williamson Jr. of Columbia; sisters, Marie McDonough of Clearwater, Fla. and Myrna Loy Duckworth of Clearworth, Fla.; brother, Robert Williamson of Elizabethtown, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

William Clifton Killen

FLORENCE -- William Clifton Killen, 80, of Florence, died Friday, October 12, 2001 in McLeod Regional Medical Center. born March 23, 1921, in Mars Bluff, SC, he was the son of the late James Thomas Killen and Elma Italine Hyman Killen. He was the husband of the late Jo Evelyn Anderson Killen.

Mr. Killen was the manager of Leach's Grocery Store and worked with Thomas & Howard Company until his retirement in 1986. He was a Navy Air Force WWII Veteran, serving in the Pacific Fleet and receiving American Area, Asiatic Pacific, Good Conduct, and Victory medals. Mr. Killen was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a life member of Masonic Lodge #204 AFM with the Shriner Omar Temple.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Killen and his wife, Wanda, of Florence, SC and David Killen and his wife, Janet, of Apex, NC. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife are two brothers, James Thomas Killen, Jr. and Clyde Hyman Killen.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 5-7pm at Cain-Poston Funeral Home, 512 West Second Loop Road, Florence, SC. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 15, 2001 at Central United Methodist Church at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.

Funeral services are being directed by Cain-Poston Funeral Home.

Gregory Brooks

FLORENCE -- Graveside services for Mr. Gregory Brooks 4:00 Sunday in the Mt. Rona cemetery in Effingham, SC.

born in Florence County, he was the son of the late Ethel (McCall) Brooks and Boykin Brooks.

Survivors are five children, Gregory Brooks, Jr., Joseph Brooks, Ketoya, Laneice, and Shonda Brooks; two brothers, Ronald (Carrie) Brooks, Larry (Barbara) Brooks, three sisters, Francena Baker, Gloria (Craig) Montgomery, Cynthia (Perry) Johnson.

Family is receiving friends at 3304 Melanie Court in Tara Village, Florence.

Edna Earle Best Lewis

COLUMBIA -- Edna Earle Best Lewis died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Columbia after a long illness. A resident of Florence, Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of Jamie M. and Laura Wingard Best of Galivants Ferry. She was the oldest of nine children. A 1940 graduate of Columbia College with a bachelor of science in home economics, Mrs. Lewis taught school for almost 40 years, mostly in Florence School District 1. She taught thousands of young women the art and science of homemaking, including nutrition, cooking, sewing and family care. She taught at McClenaghan High School, Southside High School and West Florence High School. She retired from teaching in 1978.

Upon retirement, Mrs. Lewis and her late husband, Andrew L. Lewis, became volunteers at McLeod Regional Medical Center, built a log house in the mountains and traveled extensively, including a trip on the Alaska Highway in a motor home.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Margaret Ellis Sunday School Class and the Archibald Rutledge Literary Society.

A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Andrew Lee Lewis in June of this year. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Lewis and husband Chuck Niemeyer of Augusta, Ga., Dianne and husband Stephen Berry of Columbia; grandson, Taylor Berry of Columbia; brothers, Fred G. Best of McClellanville, Jamie M. Best of Galivants Ferry and Pressley D. Best of Galivants Ferry; sisters, Miriam Altman of Summerville, Hattie Polk of Waynesville, N.C.. and Barbara Shelley of Greenwood.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Plain United Methodist Church, c/o Pressley Best, 963 Pee Dee Road North, Galivants Ferry, S.C. 29544.

Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral services and burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at Sandy Plain United Methodist Church in Galivants Ferry.

Paul Jerome Lynch Sr.

FLORENCE -- Paul Jerome Lynch Sr., 63, of 2206 Lakeview Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Unity Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Mr. Lynch was born in Florence County a son of Evie Mae Coleman Lynch and the late Hoyt Woodrow Lynch. Mr. Lynch was a member of Unity Baptist Church and the Sunshine Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by DuPont as a supervisor where he retired from after more than 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Keefe Lynch of the home; mother of Florence; son, Paul Jerome (Amy) Lynch Jr. of Florence; daughter, Angela (Scott) Snider of Charlotte; brother, Marvin W. (Norma) Lynch Sr. of Florence; sister, Loretta (Judge Ralph King) Anderson of Florence; and five grandchildren, Cayci, Trey and Abby Lynch and Duncan and Colin Snider.

Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church 2nd Mile Fund, 2990 Pamplico Highway, Florence, S.C. 29505.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Abram 'Jimmy' Green Jr.

LAKE CITY -- Funeral services for Mr. James Abram "Jimmy" Green Jr. will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 from Greater St. James A.M.E. Church on Moore Street in Lake City with the Rev. James Glisson officiating and burial in Rest Lawn cemetery directed by Green's Funeral Home.

Mr. Green, 58, died Monday, Oct. 8 and was a son of James Abram Green Sr. and the late Gertrude Porter Green.

A 1961 graduate of Carver High School, he attended S.C. State College Orangeburg and North Carolina A&T; College in Greensboro, N.C. He was employed at Latta Elementary School.

He was a member of Greater St. James A.M.E. Church where he served as assistant superintendent of Sunday School, a choir member, on the Bible school committee and steward board. He was affiliated with Will Do Masonic Lodge No. 322 and Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his father, James Abram Green Sr. of Lake City; two brothers, Attorney Lawrence (Helen) Green of Littleton, Colo., and Victor Green of Chicago; two stepsisters, Emma Lee (Dorsey) Russell of Lake City and Sarah Karim of Chicago; three aunts, Margurite Porter of Latta, Kathryn McKenzie of Jacksonville, Fla., and Georganna Green of Lake City; nieces; and nephews.

A viewing of remains will be today at Shipman Funeral Home in Latta and resume Sunday morning at Green's Funeral Home until the hour of services.
