Frost, White H., age 87, of Seymour passed away Friday Sept.24, 1999. He was a retired manager of the former SB Newman Office Supply Company and Creswell Office Supply. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII in the South Pacific. Wife: Ruth M. Frost Graveside services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, September 27, 1999 at the Nelson Family Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky. Family will receive friends Sunday 4 until 6 pm at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Virgie Bates Acuff
Dated: September 24 1999
Acuff, Virgie Bates, 82 years old of Knoxville and formerly of Powder Springs, TN, passed away September 24, 1999 at NHC of Knoxville. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Knoxville. Preceded in death by Husband, Leland Acuff. Daughter and Son-in-law: Donna and Walt Pryor Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Pastor Carl Simmons officiating. The Family would like to thank the staff at NHC for all of their love and compassion in caring for Virgie in the last two years. Interment will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. 2300 W. Adair Drive.

Rev. Gordon T. Greenwell

Greenwell, Rev. Gordon T., age 85, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, September 23, 1999. Rev. Greenwell began his ministry in 1931 at the age of 17 at Robertson Creek Church. The following year he graduated from Bulls Gap High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carson-Newman College and later graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Rev. Greenwell's first pastorate was at Phillippi (Sunrise Church near Greenville, Tennessee) and went on to serve the following churches: Mountain Valley Baptist, Whitesburg; Rocky Point Baptist, Russellville; Big Springs Baptist, Elizabethton; First Baptist, Pembroke, KY; First Baptist, Cowan; First Baptist, Sweetwater; First Baptist of Fountain City; First Baptist Sevierville; Sevier Heights Baptist, Knoxville where he retired in 1979. During his retirement he served as interim pastor at the following churches: Arlington Baptist; Fellowship Baptist; Island Home Baptist; City View Baptist; Meridian Baptist; Beech Springs Baptist and South Knoxville Baptist. Rev. Greenwell was honored to be named Pastor Emeritus at the following churches: Sevier Heights Baptist; Arlington Baptist; Fellowship Baptist. In addition, he volunteered as Chaplain at Baptist Hospital. Preceded in death by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Wife of 66 years: Geneva Phillips Funeral services will be held 8:00 PM Thursday, September 30, at Meridian Baptist Church, Rev. Dana Fachman and Rev. Paul Adams officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday at Island Home Baptist Church Cemetery for a 10:00 AM interment service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Meridian Baptist Church Missionary Home Fund, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-7:30 PM prior to the service at Meridian Baptist Church. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

James D. 'Jim' Tatum

Douglas D. Walthall

Ruth Jeannette Bowman Townsend

Townsend, Ruth Jeannette Bowman, age 87 of Knoxville, died Tuesday September 21, 1999 at Shannondale Nursing Home. Member of the Childress Street Mission for many years. She loved to attend church and sing until she became ill. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Townsend and her precious sons, James, Bobby and Harrison. Sons and daughters-in-law: Joe and Shirley Townsend, Lewis and Geraldine Townsend Funeral services 8 PM Thursday, Berry Chapel. Interment 11:00 AM Friday at Highland South Cemetery. Dona Sexton Whaley

Whaley, Dona Sexton, age 94, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999. She was an active member of First Baptist Church on Main Street and served as a children's Sunday school teacher for sixty years. She was an agent for the Smoky Mountain Railroad for years until it closed and then became a medical assistant until retirement time. She was a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, a member and past president of the Quota Club, and a member of the Modern Portia Book Club. Preceded in death by husband, John R. Whaley, Sr. and parents O.T. and Mary M. Sexton. Sons: John R. Whaley, Jr. and Richard L. Whaley Funeral service 10:30 AM Saturday, Berry Chapel, Dr. David Hull officiating. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery. She was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University and retired from TVA. Preceded in death by husband C. M. Stone. Survived by: sisters: Mary J. Howard, New Market; Gladys C. Boruff, Elwood, Ind.; brother: James A. Calloway, Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 1 PM Tuesday Berry Chapel, Dr. Walter Isley officiating. Interment will be at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Nephews will be pallbearers. The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Stone's caregivers Geneva R. Bruner and Sandy Tindell.
