Hilda Irene Minton
Dated: December 17 2000
Hilda Irene Minton, age 79 of Sevierville, TN died Sunday December 17, 2000. She was born Hilda Irene Dixon on October 14, 1921 to Walter and Etta Mae Dixon in Marquand, Missouri. She married Andy Davis Minton (originally of New Tazewell) on April 30, 1939 in Napolean, Ohio. Until their retirement in 1980, they lived in Monroe, Michigan. Hilda was a member of the First Red Bank Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, she was a charter member of the Monroe Nazarene Church in Monroe, Michigan, serving as a Sunday school teacher as well as holding other positions in the church. Later she was a member of the Port Charlotte Church of the Nazarene in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was a nurse at Seaway Hospital in Trenton, Michigan before becoming a clinic nurse with Dr. Russell Proud in Flat Rock, Michigan. She was a Court Mother for the Monroe County Friend of the Court during the 1940’s-1960’s. The Mintons were foster parents to more than 25 children during this time. Mrs. Minton was an avid crafter, crocheter, and baker, winning numerous ribbons at the Monroe County Fair and the Sevier County Fair, where she assisted in the Women’s Building for many years. She was a member of the Harrisburg Extension Homemakers Club. She also enjoyed music, traveling and time spent with her family and friends. Mrs. Minton was preceded in death by an infant brother, Walter, two sisters, Mary Jane Barker and Anna Ruth Powell of Farmington, Missouri, and a granddaughter, Michelle Cooper. Survivors: Husband: Andy Davis Minton Daughter & son-in-law: Barbara & Holden Turner of Monroe, Michigan Son: Roger Minton of Texas Grandchildren: Greg Turner of Monroe, Michigan Geri Carey of Punta Gorda, Florida Great Grandsons: Michael and William Cooper of Monroe, Michigan Brad Turner of Ida, Michigan Alan Carey of Punta Gorda, Florida Sister: Helen Miller of Farmington, Missouri Several nieces and nephews in Farmington, Missouri Funeral service 7 PM Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Merritt officiating. Interment 10 AM Thursday in Red Bank Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Bendette, Everett Bleichroth, Bob Cannon, Dennis Parton, Charles Rainwater, Bob Ross, Larry Smith, and Carrol Seagle. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Atchley funeral Home,. Sevierville, TN

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Whaley. Ruby B. Tonkin (Tots) Ford

Ford, Ruby B. Tonkin (Tots), age 87, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2000. Member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church. Graduate of Knoxville High School Class of 1931. Past President of the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion. An Election Official for many years at West High School Precinct. Preceded in death by first husband, Harris C. Tonkin, who was killed in service during World War II, second husband, J. Ceburn Ford; parents, Beatrice & Ruben Bundren; brother, Lawrence Bundren. Children: Julia "Judy" Caldwell and husband John; H. D. (Bud) Ford and wife Sandra; Rebecca "Becki" Ford Hayden and husband Stanley; John Cebie Ford and wife H. L. Graveside Service Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at New Prospect Cemetery with Reverend Gibbs Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.
