Goddard, Mary Louise, age 79, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. Member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by husband, Shell Goddard; Parents, John and Josephine Palumbo; Brothers, Michael and Anthony Palumbo; Sister, Josephine Rinderknecht. Daughter & son-in-law: Mary Jo & Jeff Sturgeon of Knoxville Funeral Service 11:00AM Saturday, December 2, 2000 at Berry Chapel with Father Alex Waraksa officiating. Interment will follow at Highland South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or St. Mary's Residential Hospice. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday with a Catholic Rosary Service at 8:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

Marie Gerth Kershner

Mrs. C.W. (Marie) Kershner, died at the age of 104 Wednesday morning, November 29, 2000, at Ft. Sanders-Sevier Medical Center Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for almost ten years. She and her late husband moved to Pigeon Forge from Chicago when he retired in the early fifties. She came to this country from Germany to escape the rigors of World War I. She was preceded in death by her parents Karl and Berta Gerth and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her nieces: Ruth Gerth, Anneliese Duescher, Edith Roser and nephew Herman Gerth, all of Germany. Friends are invited to gather at 10:30 AM Friday, Dec. 1 at Pigeon Forge Cemetery for graveside and interment. The Rev. Bob Tripp will officate. Friends may call at their convenience Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 157, Pigeon Forge, Tn, 37868.

Scates, Sarah Elizabeth, age 72, passed away at Methodist Medical Center, in Oak Ridge, Thursday November 30, 2000. Harvey R. Bowman, Jr.
Dated: October 10 2000
Bowman, Harvey R., Jr., Retired Lt. Col., passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2000. He was 81 years old, born on December 20, 1918 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Harvey R. Bowman and Mary Townsend Bowman. Colonel Bowman was preceded in death by his sister, Betta Bowman Severn. Colonel Bowman entered the Army in 1941 and served in the European Theater of operations during World War II with the 65th and 9th Infantry Divisions in which he became operations and training officer. In January of 1956 the Colonel took command of the 22nd Battalion of the 9th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis, Washington and after six months training gyroscoped to Eielson AFB in July of that same year. Colonel Bowman moved to Fort Greely in July of the following year upon the reorganization of the 9th Infantry. He has won the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Commendation Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, the ULCHI Distinguished Service Medal from the Republic of Korea, and has been awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge with star for second award. Service schools attended by him include the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He retired in 1965 after his assignment as the ROTC Advisor at the University of Tennessee. A resident of Knoxville for 40 years, Colonel Bowman owned and operated several businesses and developed real estate. He was an avid traveler and saw most of the world. He loved traveling by sea and had taken over 60 cruises. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the WW II Memorial Fund, the American Lung Association or on behalf of any research for the treatment & cure of Parkinson's disease. James Clifford Watson

Watson, James Clifford, age 75, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday October 10, 2000 at Hillcrest Nursing Home North. Member of North Acres Baptist Church. A WWII veteran of the Marine Corps. He worked for 25 years as an electrician at Oak Ridge with Davis & Longsworth Electrical Contractors. He retired in 1982 from Advanced Builders, Inc. Preceded in death by parents, Roy & Della Watson; brothers, Glen & David (Kenny) Watson, and sisters, Joyce Ann Clevenger & Ruth Davis. Wife: Wanda I. Watson Graveside service 11:00 A.M. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery with William Housley officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Jenkins, Ken Taggart, Chris Horton, Gary Davis, Danny Watson, & Kevin Watson. Robert H. Stokes, Jr.

Formerly a resident of Island Home Blvd., he was a member of South Knoxville Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years at Serene Manor. A tailor by trade, he worked at Miller's Dept.
