Heatherly, Betty Jean Doyle, age 75, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 4, 2002 at Hillcrest South Nursing Home. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Stella Doyle; brothers, James Doyle and Paul Doyle; sisters, Freda Whaley, Almeda Horton, Dorothy Harvey, and Louise Duncan. Loving husband, Gene Heatherly; children, Marcia O'Neal and husband, Cranston; Eugenia Siler and husband, Gary; Nancy Curnutt and husband, Wesley; grandchildren, Lori Curnutt, Dustin Siler, Chris Siler, Alexandra Spaulding; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery for graveside services at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. David Clapp officiating. Friends may call at their convenience on Tuesday after 12:00 Noon at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Ruth Burgin

Burgin, Ruth, age 69, was passed over to the loving arms of her beloved Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 3, 2002. She was a much loved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was retired from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital, where she served as the Director of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a long time member of Galilee Baptist Church, whose members she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Margaret Mikels; brother, Steven Mikels; and sister, Marion Mikels. Husband of 50 years, Homer F. Burgin; brother, Danny Mikels of New Market; sons, Mike, Chris and Pat; daughter, Zoe Terrell; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. George Gilbert and Dino Bray officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery, for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Pallbearers will be sons, Mike, Chris, and Pat; son-in-law, Bobby Terrell; and grandsons, Wesley and Scott Burgin. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Steve and Randy Burgin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Dorothy Virginia Benson

Dorothy Virginia Benson, age 84 of Gatlinburg died Friday November 1, 2002. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Gatlinburg and Gatlinburg Elks Lodge. Mrs. Benson worked as a practical nurse and office clerk in her husband’s medical practice in Gatlinburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L.C. Benson, and son Craig C. Benson. Survivors: Son: Leo “Benny” Benson, III Daughter-in-law: Grace Ogle Benson Grandchildren: Craig Christopher, II, Leo Benson, IV, Susan Jayne Benson Great Grandchild: Jackson Beck Memorial service 6PM Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Father Charles Livermore officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. James E. ''Buck'' Buchanan

James E. “Buck” Buchanan, age 66 of Pigeon Forge, died Friday, November 1, 2002 at the Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. Buck joined the United States Marine Corp in March, 1953, where he did his basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina. He was sent to Camp Pendleton, California for Advanced Combat Training, and then was sent to Korea for 14 months, returned with the 1st. Marine Division, then was transferred to San Diego as a Sea Going Marine. He served on the USS Meggis, then went back to Korea, Okinawa, and Guam for 2 ½ years before returning to Point Loma, San Diego, where he spent his last 6 months. While serving at Point Loma, Buck was in a naval movie called “Hellcats of the Navy”, starring Ronald and Nancy Reagan. He was their CO Driver for the film. He was discharged in 1957 and returned to West Virginia. He was a member of Edgemont Church of God, Newport, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Nettie Buchanan, and brother, Timothy Buchanan. Survivors: Wife: Katrina Buchanan Daughter and Son-in-law: Vickie and Russell Stowers of Tazwell Step-sons: SMSgt. James M. Atchley of Little Rock Air Force Base, Robert C. Atchley of Sevierville; Ronald C. Atchley, Jr. of Morristown, Tennessee Granddaughters: Amanda Stowers and Kortney Atchley Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Beatrice and Donald Keene of Sword’s Creek, Virginia, Wanda Gholson of Arnold, Missouri, Shirley and Harold Dash of War, West Virginia; Betty and Cal Paige of Descanso, California, Brenda Pickrell of Smyrna Georgia Brother: Calvin Buchanan of Akron, Ohio Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law: Pansy and Sheller Johnson of Hampton, Tennessee, Johnnie and Kenneth Marks of Hampstead, North Carolina Special friends: Louise Mandrell, Sandy and Lou Weiss, Hubert and Anna Ruth Franklin Funeral service 7 PM Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. He was a member of Fox Methodist Church, Past Master of Mountain Star Lodge, #197, member of the Eastern Star and Scottish Rites. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jackson and Bertie Keeler Worth, brothers, Ray, clay, Fred, and Herbert Worth, sister, Wilda Ellis. Survivors: Wife: Jennie Miller Worth Daughter: Catherine Worth Wolfe Grandson: Zachery Wolfe Brother: Delmar Worth Sisters: Iris Byrd, Trula Johnson, and Ruth Denison Sisters-in-law: Mollie Worth and Pauline McGaha Brother-in-law: Ted Ellis Funeral service 7 PM Sunday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Muriel Myers officiating. Kyle Smith will deliver the eulogy. Interment 1 PM Monday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. He served on the board of trustees at Life University in Marietta, Georgia since 1979 and was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Blount County for 30 years. His wife, Lucy Spurgeon; son and daughter-in-law, Andre' and Kristin Spurgeon; son, Jonathan Spurgeon and Fiance' Melanie Hammons; granddaughter, Kylee Spurgeon; parents, L.B.(Bud) and Janet Spurgeon; brothers, Ellis Spurgeon and Leroy Gaddis; sisters, Glenda Stephens, Nyoka Helton and Lena Scoggins; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Greg Bone and Donnie Long. Friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Alcoa Highway Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. for graveside services with his nephews serving as pall bearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 4, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

William Madison Rader

William M. Rader, age 81 of Wears Valley died Monday November 18, 2002. He was a B24 Pilot with the Air Force in World War II. He moved to Sevier County from Ohio in August of 1992. He attended First Baptist Church of Wears Valley. He shared an interest in cats with his wife Helen, he also enjoyed wildlife, music, reading, religion, movies and sightseeing in the mountains. He was preceded in death his son Jeffrey Rader and first wife, Alberta Rader. Survivors: Wife: Helen Rader Daughter and Son-in-law: Catherine and Randall Runk, of Los Angeles, CA Daughter-in-law: Lynn Rader, of Pittsburg, PA Grandchildren: Grace Runk Kurt Rader Sister: Delores Rahr, of WV Aunt: Martha Long, of Alexandria, VA Funeral service 7 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church, Wears Valley with Rev. Roy Gose officiating. Interment 10:30 AM Friday at Headrick’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church, Wears Valley.
