Naomi Hipshire

Naomi Hipshire, of Spring City, formerly of Morristown, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Spring City Care Center. She was 90.
A member of Montvue Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Hipshire, and son, Franklin Hipshire.
Survivors include her sister, Ann Verran of Greeneville, Tenn.; granddaughters, Libby Morgan and Janice Morgan, both of Dayton; daughter-in-law, Neva Hipshire of Dayton; great-grandchildren, Brant Jordan, Lori Reece, Sharla Reed and Josh Morgan, all of Dayton; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all of Morristown, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Mayes Mortuary in Morristown, Tenn., with Rev. William Burton officiating. Interment will follow the services in Jarnagin Cemetery. Mayes Mortuary in Morristown, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth D. Leffew

Ruth D. Leffew, of Evensville, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 73.
Mrs. Leffew was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Leffew; son, Marvin Leffew; father, Fred Dillard; and brother, Billy Ray Dillard. She was a member of the Smyrna Road Church of the Living God.
Survivors include her mother, Hazel Dillard; four sons, Jennings Leffew and Paul Leffew, both of Grandview, Jerry Leffew of Soddy-Daisy and Melvin Leffew of Evensville; three daughters, Emmaline Watson of Spring City, Lois Burton of Evensville and Judy Couch of Dayton; sister, Jessie Hale of Dayton; five brothers, James Dillard of Michigan, Edd Dillard, Thomas Dillard, Stirl Dillard, Jan Dillard, all of Dayton; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Smyrna Road Church of the Living God with Rev. Charles Sneed officiating. Interment will follow the services in Buttram Cemetery. Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of arrangements.
Louise Leffew

Louise Leffew, of Dayton, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at her home. She was 72.
A lifelong resident of Dayton, Mrs. Leffew attended Old Washington Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Mary Sneed; son, Mack Eugene Leffew; brothers, James and Muriel Sneed; and sister, Ruth Neal.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Leffew of Dayton; son, Steve Leffew of Dayton; sisters, Rose Lee Lunsford of Bristol, Margaret Pace of California, Mo., Evelyn Barnes of Dayton; brothers, Bobby and Kenneth Sneed, both of Evensville; four grandchildren, Tina Petersen of Spring City, and Adam, Steven and Chanda Leffew, all of Dayton; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Cox and Whitney Petersen.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 9, at Old Washington Baptist Church, with Rev. Felix Harris officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
James Charles Davis
Died: 01/13/1999
James Charles “Jimmy” Davis, of St. Paul, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Ladysmith, Wis., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 56.
Mr. Davis was a former resident of Rhea County and graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1960. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Sharpe Davis, and uncle, Malcolm Hood.
Survivors include his son, Timothy Davis of Grand Forks, N.D.; brother, Paul Davis of Peachtree City, Ga.; and aunt, Mildred Hood of Dayton, with whom he lived after the death of his parents. Also surviving is one grandson.

Charles W. Collins

Charles W. Collins, of Spring City, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Spring City Care Center. He was 78.
A lifelong resident of Spring City, Mr. Collins was the son of the late Jake and Oma Lucille Simpson Collins. He retired in 1983 as custodian for the Tennessee Valley Authority at Watts Bar, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was member of the St. Clair Baptist Church. He and his wife were married for 55 years.
Survivors include his wife, Arrena McCulley Collins of Spring City; daughter, Patti Robbins of Spring City; granddaughter, Teresa Robbins of Spring City; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Jake Fisher and Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Burial followed the services in Spring City Memorial Gardens. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of arrangements.
Sarah Bell Bostick

Sarah Bell Bostick, of Spring City, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 72.
Born in Hickman County, Ky., She moved from Kansas in 1967 to the Spring City area. She was the daughter of the late Benton and Viola Walters Jackson. She retired in 1990 after working at Rhea Medical Center’s cafeteria for over 10 years.
Survivors include her sons, Herchel “Butch” Baggett of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., and Leon Bostick of Spring City; sister, Mary Jackson of New Mexico; and one grandchild. The body was cremated and there will be no services. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of arrangements.
Billy Gene Crawley

Billy Gene Crawley, of Dayton, died at his home Friday, Jan. 22, 1999. He was 71.
Born June 8, 1927, in Rhea County, Mr. Crawley was a lifelong Rhea County resident. He was the son of Arthur and Mattie (Walker) Crawley. He was retired from Kayser-Roth in Dayton where he worked in the shipping department for 28 years. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Arnold of Dayton, Elizabeth Francisco of Graysville and Lois Massengill of Dayton; two brothers, Vaughn Crawley and Bobby Crawley, both of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Ford and Rev. Randall Massengill officiating. Interment followed the services in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of arrangements.
Nannie D. Ray

Nannie D. Ray, of Evensville, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 92.
Mrs. Ray was a lifelong resident of Rhea County and was a longtime member of Smyrna Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Smyrna Women’s Missionary Union and was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Ray; parents, I.B. and Matilda Daniels; brothers, Charlie Daniels, Lige Daniels, William Daniels, J.A. Daniels and Walter Daniels; and sister, Lena Mae Daniels.
Survivors include three daughters, Blanche Starring of Hixson, Tenn., Betty McCarter of Evensville and Wanda Pittman of Dayton; two sons, Neil Ray of Evensville and Arthur (Ott) Ray of Spring City; sister, Lillie (Mrs. B.J.) Clark of Rossville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted l1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Revs. Roger Rothwell, Felix Harris and Johnny Daniels officiating. Raymond White

Raymond White, of Grandview, died Friday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, Tenn. He was 80. Born Feb. 25, 1918, in Braxton County, W. Va., he was the son of Luther and Ida Mae Underwood White. He worked as a machinist for Bendix Corporation, and was deacon and head usher at Grandview Baptist Church for 19 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post #203 in Spring City. He was preceded in death by his son, Alvin White, and great-grandson, Joshua Gore. Survivors include his wife, Alma White of Grandview; daughters, Jean Wyant, Marilyn Wyatt and Valerie Detamore, all of Grandview; son, Philip White of Grandview; brother, John Russell White of Grafton, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Burris Funeral Home in Crossville, Tenn., with Minister Wayne Brooks officiating. Burial followed the services in Reed Cemetery. Pallbearers included Kevin Bridgett, Kent Bridgett, Jason White, David White, Adam White, Robert Detamore and Bradley Wyatt. Burris Funeral Home in Crossville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
Mavji K. Solanki

Mavji K. Solanki, of Spring City, died Tuesday, Jan.. 26, 1999, at the Rhea County Nursing Home in Dayton. He was 83. Born in Giujarat, India, he came to America 12 years ago and became a citizen. He was a retired accountant with Advanced Mills in Ahmedaba, Giujarat, India. He attended the Spring City Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Mangula Solanki.
Survivors include four sons, Manuel Christi of Spring City, Joseph Christi of Brooklyn, N.Y., Paul Christi of Los Angeles, Calif., Samuel Christi of Hartford, Conn.; daughter, Esther Solanki of Staten Island, N.Y.; two brothers, R.K. Solanki of Colorado Springs, Colo., and S.K. Solanki of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters in India; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. George Mahada and Rev. Don Allison officiating. Burial will be in Spring City Memorial Gardens. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of arrangements.
Joy Lynne Swafford

Joy Lynne Swafford, of Grandview, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, Tenn. She was 36.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, she was a member of Dogwood Baptist Church of Grandview.
Survivors include her husband Ronnie Swafford of Grandview; father, James Ezell of Spring City; step-father, Burch Woody, and mother, Carolyn Woody, both of Spring City; step-children, Jennifer Godsey of Spring City and Deanna Mills of Pikeville, Tenn.; sisters, Lisa Kay Ezell of Grandview and Kimberly Ezell of Spring City; brother, Michael Keith Hale of Spring City; step-sister, Angela Woody of Spring City; paternal grandmother, Addie Ezell of Spring City; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

George W. Sneed

George W. Sneed, of Rockwood, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was 65.
He was retired from the knitting department at Roane Hosiery Mill after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Rockwood Church o Christ, and was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Golly Ada Pelfrey Sneed.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sneed of Rockwood, Tenn.; sons, Robert Sneed and Ronald Sneed, both of Rockwood, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Junior and Jaylene Sneed, both of Harriman, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Steve Crabtree of Venus, Texas; grandchildren, Steven, Joshua, and Matthew Sneed, Cassie and Callie Crabtree; and uncle, Reynold Sneed of Rockwood, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary with Brother Albert Griffin officiating. Graveside services and interment were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in Oak Grove Cemetery. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood was in charge of arrangements.
