IRVIN, MRS. DOROTHY JEWELL, (October 15, 1928 - December 11, 2015) age 87 of Chattanooga passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at Summit View. She was a former resident of Beersheba Springs, born October 15, 1928 in Tarlton Valley, a daughter of the late Herman N. Hobbs and Carlena Rubley Hobbs and was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman S. Irvin; sisters, Wilsie Tate and Sara Walker; brothers, James G. Hobbs, infant brother, Charles She is survived by her son, Dan Irvin, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; grandson, Casey Irvin; granddaughter, Christina (Jason) Thomson; great-grandson, Anson Thomson; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Joe Knowles of Chattanooga; mother of Christina, Tina Howard; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Central Time Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Clayton Jones officiating. Burial will be in Coalmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services. Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, 96 Saint Clair Street, Tracy City, TN

SCOTT, MRS. MARGARET ANN, (October 5, 1927 - December 11, 2015), age 88, of Monteagle, TN has been received with loving arms to her eternal home in heaven, Friday, December 11, 2015. She was born in Washington, D. C., the only child of William Pascal and Magabelle Gaither Barnes. Ann grew up in Arlington, VA and attended college at Freed Hardeman University in Tennessee. There she met her husband Charles F. Scott, Sr. They married June 17, 1948 and finished their schooling together at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. The loving couple traveled all over the world spreading the love of Christ to thousands. Ann taught many women's bible studies and supported her husband in hi work all of the days. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Monteagle and blessed her community in many ways over the years. She was a kind, compassionate, generous lady who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Ann is survived by three children, Charles F. Scott, Jr. (Terri) of Monteagle, Bonny Beth Schrader of Belgrade, MT, and Lowell Barnes Scott (Daphne) of Murfreesboro; nine grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 14, 2015 in the chapel of Cumberland Funeral Home, with Brother Charles Williams, Brother Charles Brown and Brother Paul Tittle officiating. Burial will follow in Monteagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, 207 Mabee Ave. Monteagle, Tennessee, (931) 924-2381.

HOOTEN, ESTELL, TATE, MRS., (1918 – 2015), age 97, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Sewanee Hospital with her family at her side. She was born in Scottsboro, Alabama on November 2, 1918 to Malcom and Della Kight Dick who preceded her in death along with her husband and father of her daughter, William Tate, husband, Roy Hooten; brothers, J. D., Edward, Herman Lee, G. W. and Alfred Dick. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Grundy County, Marion County and Taylor, Michigan where she retired in the early 80s, she was a graduate of MTSU State Teachers College, she was a founding member of Laager Methodist Church and was active in the Fall Creek cemetery Association until her health declined, she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Gruetli-Laager Senior Center. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Paul Johnson; grandchildren, Susie (Larry) Carty, Stephanie (Jimmy) Counceller and Michael (Shelia) Coffelt. Shelia and Abbie Tate were very special care giving family members to Mrs. Estell; special friends, Marvin Lee Ruehling family; 8 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. William Dick and Bro. David McGovern officiating with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Fall Creek cemetery Association. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

DYKES, BENNIE, MR., Bennie Dykes age 87, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at The Bridge at Monteagle. He is preceded in death by his parents Hallie (Sanders) Dykes, Andy Dykes; son, Keith Dykes; two sisters, Elsie (Orange) Dykes, Edna (Roberts) Dykes; four brothers, Alf Dykes, Clifford Dykes, Charles Dykes and Lonnie Dykes. He is survived by his wife Deloris of 66 years; two daughters, Linda (Butch) Goodman, Dianne (Harold) Schlageter; son, Kimball Dykes; five grandchildren, Allison Morgan, Amanda (Jeff) Shepherd, Monica (Mark) Everett, Meredith (Lee) Davis, Russell Goodman; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Everett, Olivia Davis, Carly Morgan and Wesley Shepherd; two brothers, Alvin (Shirley) Dykes, Ray (Mary) Dykes. Funeral services will be held 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in the Foster & Lay Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Franklin Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Gregg Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

BROWN, MRS., JUANITA KATHERINE, age 72, of Gruetli Laager, passed away Saturday December 5, 2015 at her home with her family at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bass and Pearlie Doss Layne; husband, Preston Brown; brothers, Carl David, John Ed and Randy Layne. She is survived by her daughters, Patty Smartt, Sandy (Billy Joe) Church and Susie (Danny) Howell; sons, Derrell (Pam) Brown and James Brown; sisters, Margie Braden and Joyce Rollins; brothers, Bradley and Robbie Layne; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Larry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

FULTS, MR, MICHAEL DALE, 1967 – 2015, age 48, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away, Saturday December 5, 2015. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on July 8, 1967. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Jackson Fults; mother, Wanda Sue Scissom Layne. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Fults; son, Michael Blake Fults (Chelsea Morrison) ; daughter, Brittany Shea Fults; step-mother, Joy Lee Fults; step-father, Crandle Layne; brothers, Jacky Ray (Christie) Fults and Christopher Gene Layne; sisters, Susan Diane Showalter, Teresa Ann (Tommie Lee) Totherow, Tammy Rae Miller and LeAnn (Paul Tree) Brown; grandson, Holden Chase Debord; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Willard Griffin and Stacy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Swiss Colony Cemetery. Visitation: 10 AM - 9 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

HOFFAM, MRS., SHERRY (BYERS), age 53, of Manchester, TN, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Unity Medical Center in Manchester, TN. She was the daughter of the late little Bill Byers and Helen Byers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her wonderful late husband J. C. Hoffman, her daughter Crystal Gayle Layne, and her sister Jerri Nunley Byers. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her sons Michael Dwight Layne, Bobby Michael Layne, Jr., Stoney Dustin Hoffman, and Nathan Keith Layne, grandchildren Shelby, MaKayla, Jaggar, John Henry, and Jade Layne, brothers Larry "Bones" Byers, Billy "Bump" Byers, and Terry "T" Byers, and sister Mary "Boog" Byers Arnold. Mrs. Hoffman passed away peacefully with her son Dwight Layne, daughter-in-law Hollie Layne, grandchildren MaKayla and Jaggar Layne, and her spiritual sister Deb Anderson, at her bedside. No services are planned at this time. The family will have a graveside memorial service at a later date. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

HEITT, MRS., MARION G., 1938 – 2015, Marion G. Heitt, formerly of Dalton, passed away in Marblehead, MA, surrounded by her loving family on November 30, 2015. Marion was born on September 21, 1938 in Hartz Point, Nova Scotia, Canada to Cecil and Sylvia Gregory. Marion met the love of her life, William (Stretch) Hiett while he was in the US Navy stationed at Shelburne, Nova Scotia. They married on June 20, 1956 and the following year he discharged from the Navy and they moved to his home in Altamont, Tennessee. They lived in Tuscaloosa, AL while William attended the University of Alabama, and upon graduation he was employed with GE and for many years they lived in several states including Massachusetts, Florida, South Carolina and Hawaii before ultimately settling in The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. In her youth, Marion loved dancing, sewing, playing bridge and hosting parties for their friends. Marion and William were active members of The First Baptist Church in Pittsfield where she was a Deaconess and taught Sunday School. Marion's life was impacted in 1975 by a diagnosis of MS, and for the next forty years, this disease took its toll, ultimately leading to her passing. Since her husband's passing, Marion had resided at Lafayette Rehabilitation in Marblehead, where she received outstanding care from devoted and compassionate staff. Marion expressed how grateful she was that her son Tim and his family (Margarita and Marie) visited daily and she actually felt "at home" in her new surroundings. Marion is survived by her children: Bonny (Robert) Snyder of Gig Harbor, WA; W. Patrick (Young) Hiett of San Antonio, TX; Timothy (Margarita) Hiett of Marblehead, MA; and four beautiful grandchildren: Patricia, William, Gregory and Marie and numerous nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her husband William to whom she had been married for 57 years, her mother and father, and her beloved sister, Velma. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5th, 2015 in the funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in the Coalmont cemetery beside her husband. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to: Lafayette Rehabilitation Facility- Employee Fund, 25 Lafayette Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

HINKLE, RUBY INEZ, MRS., age 86, of Palmer, passed away Saturday November 28, 2015 at the Sheltering Arms Home in Palmer, Tennessee. She was born in Jackson County, Alabama to L. M. and Ethel Talley Gilliam who preceded her in death along with her husband, Charles L. Hinkle; 6 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Vinson) Scott of Palmer and Sharon (Steve) Hillis of McMinnville; grandchildren, Shawnna (Matt) Wheeler, Bobby (Meshon) Scott and Krystal Fier; great-grandchildren, Erica and Delisa Scott, Hyla Wheeler, Kolton and Kimber Nelson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsboro, Alabama with Bro. Jerry Roberts officiating with burial to follow in the Pinehaven cemetery at Hollywood, Alabama. Visitation: 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM Monday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee and 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Scottsboro Funeral Home, Scottsboro, Alabama. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

BREWER, KENNETH, MR., age 72, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away at his home, Friday November 27, 2015. He was a member and former business agent of the Iron Workers Local 704, Sewanee Lodge #405 F & AM, OES # 266 at Tracy City, Alhambra Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Chattanooga. He was a director of the Big Creek Utility District, board member of the Grundy Primary Care Clinic and had been the president of the Grundy County Democrat Party and had served as county commissioner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Grady and Edna Marie Crabtree Brewer along with his brother, Dwain Brewer; great-grandchild, Emmitt Andrews; nephew, Chris Brewer. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (David) Andrews; brother, Terry (Vanessa) Brewer; sister-in-law, Glenda Brewer; grandsons, Matt (Katherine) Andrews and Aiden Teeters; granddaughter, Sarah Andrews (Mauricio) Gaytan; future great-granddaughter, Afton Andrews; niece, Brittany, nephew, Kyler; step-niece, Katie; step-nephew, Kendall. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Allen Joslyn officiating with honors provided by the Sewanee Lodge F & AM and the Order of Eastern Star with burial to follow in the Browns Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

CAMPBELL, JOHN, C., MR., age 83, of Altamont, passed away Tuesday November 24, 2015. Funeral services were held Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in the Little Johnny Myers Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

Glenn "Rip" Hampton Jr
1943 – 2015
Glenn "Rip" Hampton, Jr., age 72, of Tracy City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. Rip was a lifelong resident of Tracy City, born to the late Glenn Hampton, Sr. and Leona Brazille in 1943. Rip recently retired after many years of owning and operating his local bookkeeping and tax service. Prior to that, he served Grundy County as Justice of the Peace from 1966-1968; served as County Court Clerk from 1968-1978 at which he did not seek re-election and opened his bookkeeping and tax service. He enjoyed all sports, especially those that involved his kids and grandkids. Rip coached the first T-ball team in Tracy City, and continued to coach little league baseball and football for many years. He also enjoyed old cars and was a long time member of the Jeep club and Street Rodders club. Rip was preceded in death by his brothers, Nick and Micky Hampton and Tom Ed Kirk. Survivors include his wife, Lucyle Hampton of Tracy City; daughter Angela Hampton Sylvester (Joey) of Tracy City; son Scott Hampton (Dyan) of Chattanooga; and grandkids Kamaryn and Schylar Burgess, Hunter and Hannah Sylvester and Ty and TJ Hampton. Service will be at 2 PM on Tuesday Nov. 24 at Foster and Lay funeral home followed by a graveside service at Plainview Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.
