Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. He was born in Odessa. SURVIVORS: Wife, Olga Mendoza of Odessa; son, Arturo Mendoza Jr. of Odessa; brothers, Jose Mendoza and Asencion Mendoza Jr., both of Odessa; sisters, Maria Mendoza, Clarita Martinez and Martha M. Dominguez, all of Odessa; and parents, Ascencion and Delfina Mendoza of Odessa. Robert Sumrall GARDEN CITY — Robert “Bob” Sumrall, 74, of Wylie, a truck driver, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at a Dallas Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garden City cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Alvie B. Stiefer officiating. Arrangements by Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring. He was born in Presidio. He was an Army veteran. Pedro Vasquez MARATHON — Pedro A. Vasquez, 39, of Marathon, an ambulance and fire department volunteer, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon with the Rev. Rick officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Jessie’s Body Shop in Fort Stockton. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton. He was born in Musquiz, Mexico. SURVIVORS: Brothers, Pedro G. Harold Burchett ODESSA — Harold Wayne Burchett, 86, of Odessa died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at his residence. Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. John Williams ANDREWS — John D. Williams, 46, of Kyle died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Kyle. Services are pending with McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. Wayne Yates ODESSA — Winton Wayne Yates, 78, of Odessa, a retired printer, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are pending with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. David Croom EARLY — David Croom, 54, of Brownwood, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center from injuries received in a automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Varga Chapel cemetery in San Sabe County, Texas, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early. He was born in Brownwood, Texas, to L.A. and Mary Minica Croom. He was the manager of Carroll Fire Extinguisher Co. in Brownwood. He was a Mason and a Baptist. He was a member of the Greenfield Acres Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. He had been a resident of Brownwood most of his life. Survivors include four daughters, Tonya Lynn and Steve Hare of Germany, Tammy Lee and Keith Bean of Rockdale, Texas, Bonnie Jo and Bobby Schumacher of Deanville, Texas, and Brandi Dawn Croom of Brownwood; mother, Mary Croom of Odessa; sisters, Barbara Jordan of Watauga, Texas and Peggy Tijerina of Odessa; brother, Joe L. Croom of Odessa; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, L.A. Croom; and brother, Walter Lawrence Croom. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Kenneth Crozier MONAHANS — Long time resident, Kenneth Crozier, Sr., 78, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 in Monahans. Mr. Crozier was born Sept. 8, 1924 in Hedley, Texas. He served his country during World War II, as a radioman, 1st class, with the 3rd Amphibious Marine Corp., in the South Pacific. After returning to the states, he attended Cal Poly Tech before returning to his hometown of Portales, N.M., where he met and married Billie Jean Kelley. Kenneth moved his family to Monahans in 1956, where he established Monahans Iron and Metal/ Mr. Crozier was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chapter 4004. He served three terms as Post Commander and one term as District Commander. Kenneth, who is survived by his wife, Jean, of Monahans, had four children, Danny Crozier (deceased), Linda Morris of San Francisco, Kenneth Crozier, Jr. of Monahans, and Dennis Crozier of Houston. He had 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Gerald Crozier of Portales, N.M., Paul Crozier, Jr. of Houston and Bruce Crozier of Houston. Also 2 sisters, June Towers of Dallas, and Betty Foster of Dallas. Kenneth was a member of First Baptist Church of Monahans, where his funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jeff Box officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey. Dora Henson ABILENE — Dora Henson, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at her residence in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wylie Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Fuller and Roland Williams officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park directed b y Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Dora was born to Clarence Abram and Ruby Cate West on Aug. 1, 1931, in Gouldbusk, Texas, in Coleman County. She began working in the Texas State Bank of Odessa, Texas, shortly after graduation from Odessa High School in 1948. She progressed through bookkeeping to become the head teller at the bank. Dora married Loren Henson on Feb. 11, 1950, in Odessa. In 1958, she moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Loren was attending Texas Tech University. She continued to work at the Lubbock National Bank. In 1960, Loren graduated from Tech, and Dora received a “PHT” (Put Him Through) degree for putting Loren through college. They moved to Abilene for a short time and then to Girvin, Texas, on the Pecos River near the Rio Pecos Power Plant. They were transferred to San Angelo, Texas, in May of 1961. Dora gave birth to Larry Brent Henson on June 31, 1961. She continued to be an “at home mother.” In 1966, she gave birth to David Clarence Henson. She intended to be an “at home mother, ” but a couple of bank presidents in San Angelo found out she was living there. She had worked for both of them in the past. The president of Texas State Bank of San Angelo finally convinced her to return to working at the bank, and she became the head teller. In 1977, Loren was transferred to Abilene, Texas. Dora began working at the First State Bank of Abilene for Derwood Langston. She worked there until 1982, when she decided to return to college and work toward an accounting degree. She completed the first half of the degree at Cisco Jr. College in two full semesters and two summer sessions. She was inducted into the PHI THETA KAPPA, National Honor Fraternity, on March 6, 1984. She completed her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Abilene Christian University in December of 1985. Dora began work at Abtex Beverage where she was the corporate accountant for Cleber Massey. After ten years, she retired. Mrs. Henson was a member of Wylie Baptist Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond West. Survivors include her husband, Loren of Abilene; her sons, Larry Henson and his wife, Dee and David Henson and his wife Becca, all of Fort Worth; two brothers, Ralph West and his wife, Lou, of Granbury, Texas, and Robert West and his wife Darlene of Abilene; two sisters, Yoma Fowler of Odessa and Evelyn Singleterry and her husband Henry of Andrews, Texas; a sister-in-law, Margaret West of Odessa; her stepmother, Ruby Murphy West of Odessa; two stepbrothers, James Murphy and John Murphy and his wife Karen, all of Odessa; and three grandchildren, Lauren Henson, Lee Henson, and Dax Henson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605; American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 41, Abilene, TX 79604; or Wylie Baptist Church Building Fund, 6097 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX 79606. Maria De Jesus Natividad ODESSA — Psalm 4:1 “Answer me when I call to you o my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my Prayer. Let the light of your face shine upon me, O Lord. You have filled my heart with Great Joy, I will lie down and sleep in peace: for you alone O Lord make me dwell in safety.” Maria De Jesus Nativadad- Galindo, 74 years of age, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital after battling a lengthy illness. She was born on JaN. 11, 1928, to Merced Galindo and Dolores Lujan Galindo in Cd. Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico. She married Rojelio Nativadad in 1960. She moved to Fort Stockton in 1973, where she resided until she moved to Odessa in 1995. She was member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rita Nativadad; brothers, Merced Galindo, Prajedes Galindo, Juan Galindo and Julian Galindo; sister, Norbeta Galindo, and twin baby girls. She is survived by her husband, Rojelio Nativadad; son, Joe and his wife Priscilla Nativadad; daughters, Bertha Alicia and husband Francisco Armendariz and Maria Elena and husband Luis Carrasco, all of Odessa; brothers, Pilar Galindo of Midland, Santiago Galindo and Manuel Galindo, both of Cd. Manuel Benavides, Mexico; sister, Gloria Villa of Odessa; and nine grandchildren, Mirella, Lorena and Zorayma Armendariz, Luis and Jesus Daniel Carrasco, Cassandra H., Iris, Alexandra and Erika Nativadad; all of Odessa. A rosary was recited yesterday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Serafin Avenido officiating. Benito Ramos ODESSA — Benito Ramos died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Ramos was a Catholic and a veteran. He was born Sept. 15, 1922 in Fort Stockton to father Pablo Ramos and mother Maria Puga who preceded him in death. He was a cabinet builder. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Rose Hill cemetery. Survivors include his wife Theresa A. Ramos of Odessa; daughters, Nita R. Alba and husband Abel of Aberdeen, MD, Gloria R. Espinoza and husband Juan of Spring, Texas and Viola R. Lara and husband Joe M. of Odessa; sons, Benito A. Ramos and wife Olga of Odessa, Grecien (Chan) Ramos wife Dolores of Kerrville and Ralph A. Ramos and wife Gloria S. of Odessa, Johnny A. Ramos and wife Lupe of Odessa; sister, Felicia R. Fino of Odessa; 18 grandchildren; one step grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. Services under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home. Joe Layton Surratt ODESSA — Joe Layton Surratt, age 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Big Spring, Texas. He was born in Bailey, Texas, on Nov. 17, 1919. Joe was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Eighth Army Air Force. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; six brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one brother, Travis and wife Ruth of Odessa; one sister, Nadine Pierce and husband Willie of Commerce, Texas; two stepdaughters, Verna Headlee of Odessa and Ann Yeats of Corpus Christi, Texas; several grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. The Rev. Jim Ray Brown will be officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Ruby T. Sanders ODESSA — Ruby T. Sanders, 90, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at her residence. She was born Oct. 18, 1912, to Clarence and Lillian Thompson in Big Spring, Texas. Mrs. Sanders married T.D. Sanders on March 29, 1943, in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker; she worked with the Mental Retardation Club of Odessa and was very active in her church, Northside Baptist. She is preceded in death by her husband, T.D. Sanders on Oct. 4, 1994; her daughter, Tresa Lenora Sanders; her father, Clarence Thompson; and her mother, Lillian Estelle Franklin Thompson. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Green of Odessa, Texas; sister, Gussie Mollie Overturff of Odessa, Texas; two grandchildren, Debra Fay Davis and Theron Ray Green; four great-grandsons, Spencer Davis, Christopher Davis, Shannon Davis and Matthew Green; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to the grand and great-grandchildren, pallbearers included Danny and Gary Otwell. Honorary Pallbearers were Tuffy Overturff and Lynn and Herman Herring. Services were held at Northside Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to the Northside Building Fund or the Odyssey Health Care. Family wishes to give a special thanks to Mrs. Sander’s caregivers, Ida Ramirez and Judy and Josey Seurano. Marshall S. McCrea Jr. COLEMAN — Marshall Storey McCrea Jr., 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Llano on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. Mac was born in Abilene, Texas, on Dec. 18, 1933, to Marshall S. McCrea and Elizabeth Jones McCrea. He married Dianne Campbell of Temple on Aug. 25, 1956. Mac graduated from Coleman High School, received a B.B.A. and J.D. at SMU and then served in the United States Air Force. Mac and Dianne spent twenty years in West Texas (Midland/Odessa), and then twenty years at Horseshoe Bay. Mac’s accomplishments and achievements are innumerable, but none compare to the fact that when he died, he left a family that always knew his unqualified love and absolute devotion. Mac’s life was lived not for himself, but for others. Jesus said: “…You shall love your neighbor as yourself…” Mac heard this and obeyed. Mac is survived by his wife, Dianne Campbell McCrea; a daughter, Melissa and her husband Greg Nunley of Dallas; a son, Mackie McCrea and his wife Denise of Dallas; and a son, Michael McCrea and his wife Tracy of Fredericksburg. Also surviving is his beloved brother, George of San Angelo; his cherished aunt, Ellen Townsend of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily and Marshall Nunley and Courtney, Caleb, Campbell, Annie and Grace McCrea. A service to celebrate Mac’s abundant life here, and eternal life now with Jesus Christ will be held at Horseshoe Bay, Texas, at the Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Road, on Oct. 30, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. A brief burial service will then be held in Coleman, Texas, at 3:30 p.m. at the Coleman City cemetery.
