Helen E. Henderson
ODESSA — Helen E. Henderson, 92, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Crane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crane. She was born October 8, 1910, in Clarendon, Ark., to Henry and Allie Hearon.
Helen attended Draughon’s School of Business in Little Rock, Ark., from 1935 to 1936. She entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth January, 1956. She earned a diploma and an associate’s degree in religious education from the seminary in May, 1959. She was called to First Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas, January, 1960, as Nursery Director. In September 1967, she began a Day School program in First Baptist Church and First Baptist Mexican Mission. She later became Preschool Director, then Children’s Director, working with ages birth through sixth grade. She retired from this position November, 1975.
She married Richard Henderson January 27, 1962 in Odessa.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Henderson on April 17, 2001; brothers, Willie and “Little Buddy” Hearon; sister, Ruby Hearon.
She is survived by her son, David “Hank” Emmons of Big Spring; grandson, David Emmons of Austin; and great-grandson, Preston Coy Emmons of Mississippi.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Odessa cemetery with Rev. Bill Cook officiating. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bailey Stone officiating and Rev. Curtis Brewer and Rev. Johnny Young assisting.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Delbert Wesley Frady
ODESSA — Delbert Wesley Frady, 78, of Odessa, passed away on April 4, 2003, at Hospice House.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1924, in Fort Worth to Bruno and Lovie Frady. He was Methodist.
Delbert was a telephone installer and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 33 years, retired in 1983, and was a member of the Pioneer Club. He co-owned and operated S&F Feed Store for five years. He had a shop in the back yard where he enjoyed tinkering. He was known for his funny sense of humor and witty sayings. He was reared in the Fort Worth area and married Inez Wright on March 29, 1943.
Survivors include his son, Don Frady and wife, Pam; daughter, Cheryl Tucker and husband, Steve; and grandson, Andy Tucker, all of Odessa; brother, Ernest Frady and wife, Jennie, of Fort Worth; sister-in-laws, Norma Glover of Richland Hills; Bernice Pruett of Bloomington; and Pauline Blanke of Gordonville.
The family would like to give special recognition to Dr. Shylesh Ganta of Midland, the caregivers at Terrace West Nursing Home and the compassionate staff of Hospice House. The family suggests memorial to Hospice House of Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home of Odessa.

Jean Garrett
ODESSA — Jean Garrett, a longtime Odessa resident died on April 3, 2003 in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Adrian Garrett, on Oct. 19, 2001.
Jean had earlier lost her mother, Minnie Stewart and her sister Jewell LeBeau.
Jean was born (Imogene Snow) on May 15, 1926. During World War II, she married Adrian Garrett and the couple soon had a son, Bill Garrett and then a daughter, Patricia Jo. After the war, the couple settled down in Odessa. Jean was first a homemaker, then the Cafeteria Manager at ECISD’s Sam Houston Elementary for some 20 years. She retired and enjoyed the rest of her life at home with her husband.
Jean is survived by her son Bill Garrett of Salinas, CA; daughters, Patricia Jo Gibson of Houston and Gina Garrett of The Colony; sister, Leola Wells of Oklahoma; and brother, Joe D. Snow of Odessa.
Her grandchildren are Michael Lee Gibson of Midland, Barbara Gibson of Houston, Lisa Bogie of Frisco and Larry Garrett in Germany. She had three great-grandchildren, Garrett Bogie and Bryce Bogie of Frisco and Jennifer Adrian Gibson of Midland.
Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.

Lena Elizabeth Stokes Knight
ODESSA — On Jan. 7, 1924, J.L. and Nancy Elizabeth Stokes gave birth to their first child, Lena Elizabeth Stokes Knight, in Westbrook. Lena went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Three years after Lena’s birth the small family rejoiced when Lena’s little brother, W.C. (Dub) Stokes was born.
Lena and her family grew up in Cheyenne, a small town north of Kermit. She graduated from Kermit High School in 1942. After graduation, Lena met and married Walter Edmonds. They gave birth to their first child in 1946. Walter preceded Lena to the golden gates of Heaven in 1948.
In 1950, Lena was united in marriage to John Vernon Knight and moved to Jal, N.M., where they settled and raised their four children. After twenty-six years of marriage, Lena turned her beloved John over to the wonderful strength and tender care of Jesus Christ.
Lena was a forty-eight year resident of Jal and in 1998 she moved to Midland where she spent her final years with the dear residents of Saddleridge Lodge.
Lena was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to raising her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jal, N.M. and a retired clerk for El Paso Natural Gas.
On the day Lena went to be with the Lord she was lovingly reunited with her mother and father, husband, Walter and husband, John.
Lena’s family includes children, Walter Lynn and Linda Knight, Nancy Knight, Gerald and Margie Knight and Don and Teresa Knight. Grandchildren, Justin and Stephanie Knight, Leann Knight, Angie and Tim Simmons and Kristie Asel. Great-grandchildren, Allison Ledesma and Courtney Simmons. Brother, Dub Stokes. Sister-in-laws, Shirley Stokes, Ruby Walls Sykes and Cassie Piper. One aunt, Margaret Hart. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Leo Daniels, Hubert Whit, Brian Stokes, Freddie Kemper, Ricky Miller and Dave McFadden. Honorary pallbearers are Murray Wicker, Isabell Quintela, James Kilgore.

Kay Francis Shirley
MONAHANS — Graveside services for Kay Francis Shirley, 67, of Monahans are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Monahans Memorial cemetery with Greg Holly officiating.
Mrs. Shirley died Thursday, April 4, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Jan. 22, 1936, in Lindsey, Okla. A brother, Jack Holt, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shirley was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Shirley of Monahans; son, Wade Shirley of Monahans; daughters, Vickie Moncrieff of Bellingham, Wash. and Terry Shirley of Monahans; sisters, Anne Krumm of Idaho and Sara McHenry of Chico, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey of Monahans.

Mary Louise Rhyne
ODESSA — Mary Louise Rhyne, 71, of Odessa, passed away April 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born May 18, 1931, in Weatherford, to James and Esta Davidson Woods.
Mary was a homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes include baking, pouring ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, and cooking for the kitchen of the Latter Rain Church. She was reared in the metropolitan area and married Joseph Rhyne June 22, 1956, in Mineral Wells.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Rhyne; daughters, Vicky Frazier and husband William, Janet Franklin and husband, Bobby, and Kathy Houston; sons, James Rhyne and wife, Kim, and David Dixon and wife, Mary; sisters, Nona Fee and Wanda Fox, all of Odessa; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Memorial services will be at a later date and arrangements under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.

John Muxworthy III
ODESSA — John Frederick Muxworthy III, 51, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born November 22, 1951, in Burlington, Vt.
John graduated from Permian High School in 1969 and later received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He was the owner of Sirloin Stockade Restaurants in Hobbs, Carlsbad and Albuquerque, New Mexico, for over 15 years. He and his wife returned to Odessa three years ago.
John loved to fly. He never met a stranger. Anything that anyone asked him to do, he would gladly assist them. He was a friend to everyone. His constant companions were Tex, Cooter and Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John F. Muxworthy Jr., Virginia Muxworthy and his father-in-law, Lue Tennison.
He is survived by his wife, soulmate and best friend of 20 years, Barbara Muxworthy of Odessa; step-son, Dr. Todd Odom and wife, Maria, of University Park; brother, Neil W. Muxworthy and wife, Lynn, of Hamilton; sister, Jody Muxworthy Woodward of Rochester, N.Y.; mother-in-law, June Tennison of Okmulgee, Okla.; brother-in-law, L.V. Tennison and wife, Ellen, of North Richland Hills; nieces, Jillian Muxworthy, Abby Woodward, Shali Wilson and husband, Mike, Jessica Tennison, Abigail Tennison and Emily Tennison; nephews, Keaton Muxworthy, John Ross Woodward, Parker Woodward and Will Woodward; grandchildren, Emma Odom and Natalie Odom; and great-nephews, Michael Wilson Jr. and Dylan Tennison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of your choice or the family has set up a memorial fund at Medical Community Credit Union, 2740 N. County Road West, Odessa, Texas 79764, Account No. 13515.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at 696 E. Hillmont, north end of Schleymeyer Field.
Services are entrusted to Memorial Services, Odessa, Texas.

James Arthur Ballard
COLORADO CITY — James Arthur Ballard passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2003.
James was born on April 20, 1919 in Sapulpa, Okla. He was a owner and operator of an oil field supply company. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by son, James Allen (Patty) Ballard of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Bertha Estelle Griffis of Odessa and Janie Yvonne Beam of Weatherford; four sisters, Martha Gilstrap of Colorado City, Ruby Franks of Wink, Mildred Elma (Gerald) Spray of Colorado City and Thelma Marie Hedrick of Colorado City; brother, Harley Dean; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2003, at Kiker-Seale Chapel.

Ruby Dell Norwood
ODESSA — Ruby Dell Norwood, 87, of Odessa passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Wauhila, Okla., to John H. and Martha Vaughn Williams.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Bro. Terry Pugh officiating. Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
She married Roy W. Norwood Sept. 20, 1931, in Morris, Okla. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Robert Norwood of Odessa; two daughters, Juanita Parrigin of Wellington and Beulah Gentles of Odessa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Brian Keith Blackburn
ODESSA — Brian Keith Blackburn, 33, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his residence in Naples, Fla. He was born November 21, 1969, in Odessa to Bill and Beverly Blackburn.
He served in the Army National Guard, was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church, and was a truck driver. Of his enjoyable hobbies besides scubadiving and skydiving, one of the most important ones was fishing with his pal, Dad.
He is preceeded in death by his grandfather, Woodrow Freeman. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Beverly Blackburn of Odessa; brother, Richard Blackburn and wife, Shiela, Blackburn of Grand Prairie; sister, Kimberly Goolsby and husband, Troy, of Odessa; grandfather, J.W. Blackburn of Kentucky; grandmothers, Lota Freeman of Odessa and Betty Kennedy of Florida; nephews, Ryan, Aaron, Brandon, Colby, Logan and Laine, all of Odessa.
Pallbears will be Ronnie Boren, Shane Boren, Jeff Boren, Shawn Parker, Shane Parker and Robert Uballe.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Faith Community Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
