Eddie B. Collins
ODESSA — Eddie B. Collins was born in February 28, 1929, in Dime Box, Lee County, Texas, to Ed and Honorah Collins. He was a resident of West Texas for most of his life, having lived in Abilene, Hereford, Eastland, Dalhart and Odessa, Texas. He departed this life at 10:25 p.m. on March 28, 2003, in the Hospice House, in Odessa.
He was preceded by his parents; wife, Hazel Cooper Collins; daughter, Lori Dianna Collins; sister, Bessie Garcia; and brothers, Hubert Collins, Delma Collins, Vernon Collins, Chester Collins, Farris Collins and Rubin Collins.
He leaves to mourn his departure his loving and caring children, Eddie B. Collins Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, Elizabeth A. Collins Scott of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Belinda Meshell Joseph of Las Vegas, Nev., Hazel L. Weaver of Sicily, Italy, Edward A. Collins of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Sharon Munson of Abilene, Texas, Shallay Munson of Midland, Texas, Edwina K. Collins of Nashville, Tenn., Edwin Craig Collins of Clovis, N.M., Curtis E. Collins of Shamrock, Texas, Nickolos A. Collins of Shamrock, Texas, Ike Collins of Abilene, Texas, and Mike Collins, of Austin, Texas; stepdaughters, Paula L. Green of Shamrock, Texas, Tanya F. Hawkins of Clovis, N.M.; brother, Doris D. Collins of Magnolia, Ark.; sister, Ruby Giimore of Oceanside, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Pallbearers will be Layfayette Collins, Petty D.Hunter, David Collins, Terrance Collins, Darius Collins, Hubert Collins Jr. and Larry Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Garcia and Milton Gilmore.
We would like to extend to you our sincere gratitude for the kindness and outpouring love from the community shown during our time of need. The cards, flowers, gifts, thoughts and kind words are deeply appreciated. May God bless you and keep you. A special thanks to the Hospice House for the personal and professional care provided during our father’s last days and also a thank you to the staff of Avalon Place.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Highland and Bunche Church of Christ with Gene Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.

Matthew Schirmer
TARRYTOWN — Matthew William Schirmer, son-in-law of former University of Texas of the Permian Basin president, Dr. Charles A. Sorber, died Friday, March 28, 2003.
Matthew, 43, received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, and his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Schirmer.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Schirmer, and their son, Stephen, of Lakeway; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Schirmer of Union, New Jersey; his brothers, Tom, Mike, Chris, Joe and Paul; his sisters, Karen Coon and Ellen Schirmer, and their spouses and children; in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Sorber and Kingsley Sorber of Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. A private family burial is planned. Pallbearers are Tom Schirmer, Mike Schirmer, Chris Schirmer, Joe Schirmer, Paul Schirmer, Billy Coon and Kingsley Sorber.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capitol Speech & Language School, 2011 W. Koenig Lane, Austin, Texas, 78756, or a charity of choice.

Minnie Allen
LAMESA — Minnie Mae Allen, 68, of Lamesa, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nazarene Church. Burial will be at Lamesa Memorial Park. Arrangements by Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa.
SURVIVORS: None listed.

Edith Blackmon
ODESSA — Edith H. Blackmon, 74, of Odessa, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Bratcher officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pa.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Bill J. Blackmon of Odessa; sons, Mark D. Blackmon of Grand Prairie and Brent A. Blackmon of Odessa; daughters, Sheralyn Blackmon and Billie J. Clark of Odessa, and Janie A. Shannon of San Antonio; sister, Ethel Anderson of Odessa; and nine grandchildren.

Miguel Contreras
PECOS — Miguel C. Contreras, 52, of Pecos, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Santa Rosa. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Peaceful Garden Funeral Home of Pecos.
He was born in Pecos. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Son, Joel Pando of Dallas; daughters, Rachel C. Padilla of Pecos and Brianna G. Contreras of Odessa; brother, Robert C. Contreras; sister, Mary C. Contreras; and three grandchildren.

Opal Pearce
ODESSA — Opal Mac Pearce, 85, a waitress, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Avalon Place Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Increase, Miss.
SURVIVORS: Brothers, Harvey Williams of Odessa, David Williams of Hurst, and Glenn Williams of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Jo Lynn Knowles of Tocoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Runyan
ODESSA — Robert Samuel Runyan, 90, of Odessa, a retired drilling foreman, died Saturday, May 31, 2003.
Services will be Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Wichita, Kan.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Lois Runyan of Odessa; daughters, Barbara Boyland and Sandra Fowler, both of Odessa, and Karen Ray of Fort Davis; brother, Gene Runyan of Rodger, Ark.; sisters, Leona Ludwick of Raymond, Kan., and Vera Bloomer of Ogden, Utah; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ester Valdez
ODESSA — Ester Valdez, 91, of Odessa, a housewife, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Maria Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
She was born in Ozona.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Ester ‘Esperanza’ R. Flores of Youngsville, N.C., Rosa A. Garcia and Margaret A. Shannon, both of Odessa, and Eloisa A. Flores of Midland; sisters, Carmen A. Trujillo of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Beatrice A. Garza of Odessa.

Leon McCracken
PECOS — Leon McCracken, 76, of Pecos, a bookkeeper for Woods Gulf Jobber and Paymaster Gin, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Carreon and George Vasquez officiating. Burial will be at Mount Evergreen cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Gasoline. He was Catholic. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Peggy McCracken of Pecos; son, David McCracken of Del Rio; daughter, Peggy Goddard of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Mary Polk of Cedar Park; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alberto Martinez
FORT STOCKTON — Alberto Primera Martinez, 63, of Fort Stockton, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Burial will be at East Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Fort Stockton.
SURVIVORS: Son, Wayne Martinez of Odessa; daughters, Kelvie Martinez and Annabelle M. Montoya, both of Odessa; two brothers, Tomas P. Martinez and Daniel P. Martinez, both of Fort Stockton; sister, Alicia Baiza of Fort Stockton; and 12 grandchildren.

Gary Rogers
ODESSA — Gary Dale Rogers, 47, of Odessa, a diesel mechanic, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at O’Donnell cemetery in O’Donnell, Texas. Arrangements by Chapel of Hope Funeral Home in Hobbs, N.M.
He was born in Lamesa.
SURVIVORS: Son, Zeb Rogers of Odessa; sister, Jeannie Brown of Seminole; and mother, Mary Rogers of Monument, N.M.

Dorothy Carnes
ODESSA — Dorothy Elizabeth Carnes, 84, of Odessa, a surgical technician nurse, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Lawton, Okla., with the Rev. Gary Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery in Ardmore, Okla. arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Ardmore, Okla.
SURVIVORS: Son, Larry Carnes of Odessa; daughter, Linda Rice of Odessa; and sister, Wilma Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla.
