Patricia Moore ABILENE — Patricia Dea Moore, 51, of Abilene, formerly of Merkel, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at an Abilene nursing home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Merkel First United Methodist Church with the Revs. James Merrell and Curtis Bentley officiating. Arrangements are by Starbuck Funeral Home. She was born in Merkel and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She worked for Abilene State School for 13 years and as a school nurse for Abilene Independent School District for 13 years. SURVIVORS: Father, Laverne Moore of Big Spring; sisters, Twyla Greenfield of Odessa and Gloria Isom of Sweetwater. Darrell Quaid STANTON — Darrell Van Quaid, 66, of Stanton, a farmer and retired employee of Texas Electric, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at a Ruidoso, N.M. hospital. Services will be at 10 at Saturday at the Downtown Church of Christ in Stanton with the Rev. Van Pendergrass officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery Stanton. Arrangements are by Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. He was born in Comanche, Okla. He was a member of Downtown Church of Christ. SURVIVORS: Wife, Glynda Quaid of Stanton; son, Robert Quaid of Stanton; daughters, Debbie Thompson and Jackie McDaniel, both of Stanton, and Trina Springer of Midland; sisters, Gay Coston of Borger, Lelia Bryant, Lavern Robinson and Dena Baggett, all of Odessa; and nine grandchildren. Marjorie Payne ANDREWS — Marjorie “Marge” Payne, 78, of Wichita Falls, a homemaker, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at the W. Erle and Emma White Hospice Center in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Andrews West cemetery with the Rev. Terri H. Perkins officiating. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. She was born in Hardtner, Kan. and moved to Wichita Fall in 1993 from Andrews. She was a homemaker. SURVIVORS: Husband, Robert M. Payne of Wichita Falls; daughter, Janet Lasseter of Wichita Falls; son, Robert E. Payne of Midland; sister, Verna Dutton of Mulvane, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Evelyn Vining MONAHANS — Evelyn Harriet Vining, 99, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at her residence. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today Bluebonnet Hills cemetery in Colleyville with Mark Blair officiating. Arrangements are by Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey. She was born in Piper, Kan. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Edith Vincent of Odessa; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Willie Williams MERKEL — Willie Bell Williams, 58, of Midland, a cook and seamstress for Wall’s Manufacturing, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at her residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Merkel with the Rev. Phil Babcocks officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Starbuck Buck Funeral Home. She was born in Welder and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: Husband, Mitchell Williams of Midland; daughters, Voila White of Amarillo, Annette Cato of Tyler and Sharonda Williams of Midland; sons, Joe Eleby Jr. and Richard Eleby, both of Odessa; sisters, Annie Hart of Houston, Callie Tutt and Alberta Shed, both of Abilene, Lillie White of Merkel and Odessa Whitney of Tyler; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Melvin Proctor MIDLAND — Melvin Proctor, 64, of Midland, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Services are pending with Martinez Funeral Home of Odessa. Howard Tucker ANDREWS — Howard Tucker, 88, of Andrews, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews. Services are pending with McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. Anna Letkeman SEMINOLE — Anna Letkeman, 29, of Seminole, a homemaker, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Seminole. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Old Colony Mennonite Church with Peter Thiessen officiating. Burial will be at the Gaines County cemetery South. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home. She was born in Fresno, Calif. She was a member of the Old Colony Mennonite Church. SURVIVORS: Husband, Peter Letkeman of Seminole; parents, Abe and Judy Giesbrecht of Seminole; grandfather, Abe Giesbrecht Sr. of Canada; brothers, Abe Giesbrecht and John Giesbrecht, both of Seminole. Virginia Pitt ODESSA — Virginia Murel Pitt, 75, of Odessa, a former employee of El Paso Products, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Regency Hospital in Odessa. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Luthern Church of Risen Lord with the Revs. Richard B. Pitt and Chris Conner officiating. Burial will at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haven of Memories cemetery in Canton. Johnnie Williams ODESSA — Johnnie F. Williams, 83, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Thursday, May 2, 2003, at her residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. Beneva Powers ODESSA — Beneva Powers, 49, of Odessa died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at her residence. Services are pending with Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Benjamin Bettis LUBBOCK - Benjamin “Ben” Bettis, 22, a student at Texas Tech, of Lubbock, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in Lubbock. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews with the Revs. Bill Melton of Andrews, Mark Jobe of Hurst, and Ed Ainsworth of Lubbock officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews North cemetery in Andrews. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. He was born in Lubbock and was a member of Church On The Rock in Lubbock. SURVIVORS: Sons, Dwayne Carpenter of Odessa, Darrell Carpenter of Colorado City; daughter-in-law Barbara Carpenter of Oceanside, Calif.; brothers, Bud Dulin and C.W. Dulin both of Abilene; sisters, Doris Dulin and Verna Neel both of Colorado City, and Deloris Gillium of Snyder; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Beatrice ‘Marie’ Chesser ODESSA — Beatrice “Marie” Chesser went to be with her Lord on May 5, 2003. She was born in San Saba, Texas, on July 18, 1926. She was raised on a farm as the youngest of seven children. Marie left the farm as a teenager to pursue an education. Shortly after graduating business college, she moved to Goldsmith to begin employment. Marie’s occupational pursuit not only granted her the opportunity to provide for herself, but an introduction to her future husband. She married Billy Joe Chesser and had two children. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and tending to her flowers. Marie was very active in the church and a respected member of her community. She is survived by her brother, Roderick Quain; her sister, Josie Hughes; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 2011 N. Washington, in Odessa. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
