Wanda Lea Gregory

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — Wanda Lea Gregory, 73, of Sand Springs, formerly of Odessa, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004. She was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Ranger.
Memorial service set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mobley-Dodson Funeral Chapel, Sand Springs.
Survived by son, Ted Gregory of Sand Springs; daughter, Sue Redman of South Lake; sister, Margaret Greenwood of Houston; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations requested to Children’s Hospital of Dallas, 1935 Motor Street, Dallas, Texas 75235.

G.W. ‘Dub’ Kimbrough

EASTLAND — G.W. “Dub” Kimbrough, 79, a World War II veteran and a retired service station owner, passed away in Weatherford on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Wednesay at Bakker Funeral Home, Eastland.
G.W. was born in Eastland County on July 7, 1924. He attended Gorman and Ranger schools. He was a resident of the Brock community since 1991.
He is survived by a son, Joel Kimbrough; a daughter, Robin Wilhite of Terrell; two sisters, Katie D. LeMay of Brock, Vivian Knapp of San Antonio; a brother, Dewayne Weatherford of Waco; grandchildren, Macie and Zachary Wilhite of Terrell; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Zelda Kimbrough; father, Enoch Kimbrough; and brothers, Randolph Kimbrough and Robert “Bob” Kimbrough.

Robert Lee Lewallen

ODESSA — Robert Lee Lewallen, age 94, formerly of Odessa, passed away Jan. 4, 2004, in San Angelo. Robert, better known as R.L. or Bob, was born in Voca on Aug. 16, 1909, to Henry and Maud Brown Lewallen. His family moved to Junction then to Eden where he completed his schooling. He attended a business school in Abilene at age 17. His first business was delivering merchandise around the area. This evolved into cattle hauling and later into the sand and gravel business.
He married Floy E. Rascoe of Fife in Brady on Nov. 15, 1930. They moved to Menard in 1941. In 1950, they settled in Odessa and were residents there until July 2003 when they moved to San Angelo. They were active in Belmont Baptist Church.
Survivors are a sister, Lillie MacBrandon of Eden; his wife, Floy Lewallen of San Angelo; son, James R. Lewallen of San Angelo; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Norman Fullerton of San Angelo; and daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and John Lafrentz of Odessa; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial in Midland.
Memorials may be made to Belmont Baptist Church.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa.

Jesse Lee Mayes

ODESSA — Jesse Lee Mayes, 85, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at his residence in Odessa.
He was born March 17, 1918, in Lowder, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Mary Inman in Kansas City, Mo., in 1946, and later moved to Odessa in 1975. He worked for French Tools as a mechanic, and retired in 1980. He also worked for the Odessa American. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
His wife, Mary Mayes; son, Carrol Mayes; daughter, Kathern Mayes; and parents, John and Lizzie Mayes, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth Mayes and wife, Patricia, of Odessa; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Sam Presley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Rex Richardson

RANGER — Rex Lee Richardson, 79, of Monahans, passed away on Sunday in Big Spring. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, 10 a.m. at Edwards Funeral Chapel with Robert Winters officiating. Burial will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth National cemetery on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Mr. Richardson was born on June 15, 1924, in Kaufman to Luther Clifford and Etta Geneva Richardson. He attended school in Kaufman. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired after 30 years of service with City Service Oil Company which was acquired by Occidental Oil. He spent most of his life living in the Permian Basin.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his children, Roseanna Vaughan of Ranger, Rex Lee Richardson Jr. of Somerville and Ronald Lee Bradshaw of Kemp; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jose Porfirio Aguirre Jr.

ODESSA — Jose Porfirio Aguirre Jr., 51, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1952, in Pecos, Texas, to Porfirio Sr. and Briatrice Aguirre.
He was a Christian/Catholic and an auto mechanic.
He is survived by his parents of Odessa; one brother, Ruben D. Aguirre of Odessa; one sister, Alice A. Zavala and husband Manuel of Odessa; his niece, Elizabeth Armendarez and husband Raul; great-niece, Kamilla Armendarez; and great-nephew, Isaiah Armendarez.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at RoseHill cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

W. Carter Bryant

ODESSA — W. Carter Bryant, 73, of Odessa, surrounded by his loving family, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Powell, Texas, to Homer and Edel Jackson. He was a Christian/Baptist, a U.S. Navy veteran and worked in the insurance industry .
Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Earl Bryant and Clyde Bryant.
He is survived by his wife, Julia C. Bryant of Odessa; one son, David Bryant and wife Andrea of Goodyear, Ariz.; five daughters, Donna Jackson and husband Rob of Gunner, Texas, Debbie Line and husband Kelly of Allen, Tammy Harris of Midland, Frances Wheeler and husband Joe of Tyler and Sandra Wilkerson of Burnett; two brothers, Harold Bryant and wife Dorothy of Amarillo and Wayne Bryant and wife Fayrene of Lubbock; one sister, Evelyn Robertson of Alabama; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
We the family, would like to take this time, to express our utmost sincere gratitude to the staff at Home Hospice and especially Dr. Ramanathan for the wonderful and special care that was given to our Husband, Dad and GrandDad.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Temple Baptist Calvery Chapel with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Kayli Analise Galindo

ODESSA — Kayli Analise Galindo, infant daughter of Steven Rey Galindo and mother, Amy Galindo, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at her residence in Odessa.
Baby Kayli was a Christian.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Rose Hill cemetery Babyland with Pastor Valente Mendez officiating.
Survivors include her parents of Odessa; grandfather, Rey Galindo and grandmother, Amparo Galindo, both of Odessa; grandmother, Helen Fore and stepgrandfather, Raymond Fore, both of Odessa; grandfather, Edward Emory of Evansville, Ind.; one brother, Dallas Galindo and sister, Kandi Sanchez, both of Odessa; and aunt, Sonya Galindo of Odessa; two uncles, Kenny Fore of Odessa and Bryant Beavers of Odessa; and one aunt, Michelle Smith of Odessa.
Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Esther ‘Pearl’ Leslie

ODESSA — Esther “Pearl” Leslie went to be with God on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Hospice House after suffering with Parkinson’s Disease for more than 30 years.
She was born in New Mexico, close to Four Corners. She was a resident of Avalon Nursing Center for eight years.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dick Brown officiating. Interment will be held in Snyder, Texas
Pearl was homemaker when her children were small; after they were grown, she went to work as a realtor. At one time in her career, she was the top sales person of the year in El Paso, where she lived for 30 years. Pearl was a kind, loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Woodrow Leslie, preceded Pearl in death in 1987.
She is survived by her children, Robert “Bob” Leslie and wife Loretta of Odessa, William “Bill” Leslie of Dallas and Wanda Harman of San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Malissa Roach and husband Russell of Odessa, David Leslie of Dallas, Kim Robinson and husband Richard of Odessa, Scott Harman and wife Ami of Austin, Leslie Ann Harman of San Marcos, Shelly Gwin and husband Trent of Ferris and Wendi Sherrill and husband Jason of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Kelli Olvera and husband Anthony of Odessa, Brandon Cowart of Odessa, Brittany Cowart of Dallas, Shauna Roach of Odessa, Rebecca and Nathan Robinson of Odessa, Tommy Shelsey Gwin of Dallas and Sarah and Savanah Sherrill of North Carolina; and great-great-granddaughter, Analise Olvera

Charles Alberta Phillips

ODESSA — Retired newspaperwoman, Charles Alberta Phillips, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Abilene, Texas, to Zena Bell and Charles A. Fryar, owners of Albany, Texas newspaper, “The Shackelford County Leader.”
After completing her college education at Draughan’s in Fort Worth, Alberta returned to Albany and worked with her parents at the newspaper. After the death of her mother, she continued in the newspaper business for a number of years. When she and her father sold the paper, now “The Albany News, ” Alberta moved to Odessa where she worked for a number of years as an advertising solicitor for The Odessa American and for several local television and radio stations.
Ms. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Louise Moody; and husbands, Sam T. Moberley and Walter A. Phillips.
She is survived by daughters, Judy DeWees and Becky Sam Dixon and Becky’s husband W.C., all of Odessa; grandchildren, Debbi DeWees Elmer of Rockwall, Texas, Steve DeWees of Plano, Texas, and Brad DeWees of Odessa; and 10 adoring great-grandchildren.
While in Albany, she was active in the Fort Griffin Fandangle, the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Memorial services for Alberta are scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odessa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made Meals On Wheels, Make A Wish Foundation, The First Presbyterian Church, The Midland-Odessa Symphony & Choral or the charity of your choice.
