Lena Geneva Bachus

ODESSA - Lena Geneva Bachus, 81 years of age, passed away on June 25, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Grosvenor to Hubert and Ester Dodd. She married Warren W Bachus on March 3, 1934 in Texas. Her husband and brother H.S. Dodd preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bachus is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Kermicle and her husband Don of Midland; sisters, Jean Davis and Ruby Kelly, both of Odessa, and Stella Reynolds of Eastland; grandson, Robert Barnard; great grandchildren, Ty Barnard, Chelsea Barnard and Dustin Barnard.
Visitation will be at Odessa Funeral Home.
Graveside services have been set for Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.

Madie Ann Tisdale Booth

MIDLAND - Madie Ann Tisdale Booth passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Midland.
She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Eskota, Fisher County, to Joseph R. Tisdale and Nancy Dyess Tisdale. A resident of Midland since 1925, she married Archie Booth in 1928 in Midland.
A lifelong Baptist, Madie was first a member of the Valley View Baptist Church and later was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the Rebecca Lodge where she was recognized as “Mother of the Year.” Madie worked for many years as a practical nurse.
Madie was preceded in death by her husband, Archie W. Booth; sons, A.W. Booth, Jr. and Benny R. Booth; granddaughters Kristy Booth and Minka Wood; sons-in-law, Mack Huggins, W.H. Jones and Clifton Wood; her parents; four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by three sons, Tom Booth and wife Myra of Abilene, John W. Booth and wife Naomi of Odessa and Robert Booth of Midland; four daughters, Nancy Jones of Abilene, Gene Wood of Odessa, Zella Huggins of Midland and Cynthia Huber and husband David of St. Paul, Minnesota; and daughter-in-law, Donna Booth. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Monday, June 27, 2005, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.

Salome Marquez Montez

MIDLAND - Sal Montez went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, June 25, in his home in Midland.
He was born Salome Marquez Montez on Oct. 22, 1930, to Leonicio and Carmen Montez of Stanton. The family moved to Midland when Sal was 7 years old and was educated in the Midland school system.
Sal served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany in 1951-1953. He then came home to marry Emma Morales on July 11, 1953 in Fort Stockton, Texas, when they made Midland their home.
He worked with Texas Electric Service Company (now TXU) from March 1953 until his retirement in August 1987. On July 11, 2003, Sal and Emma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Midland, hosted by their children.
Sal was involved in several civic organizations. He was the board chairman for the Park Center YMCA, a long-standing board member of the United Way (where he served with George W. Bush), and was a member of the Eastside Lions Club. He was also a member of the G.I. Forum, the Midland Red Cross and on the board for the Campfire Girls Organization, as well as the Advisory Committee at Ben Milam Elementary School.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Midland, where he was awarded for 61 years of faithful service, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was preceded in death by Emma, his beloved wife in March 2003, and is survived by their five children: Tony Montez of Houston, Diane Montez of Abilene, Richard Montez of Dallas, Edward Montez of Midland and Tina Bernal of Austin. His grandchildren are: Ryan, Nathan, Evan and Robin Montez of Houston, Melissa, Neil and Marcus Montez of Midland, and Tara, Stephanie, and Elijah Bernal of Austin. Sal’s surviving immediate family are his sisters Mary Diaz of Midland and Mague Rubio of Shafter, California.
A rosary will be held at Ellis Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 7 p.m.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland, Texas; (432) 683-5555.

Rose Reyna

ODESSA - Rose Reyna, 62 years of age, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1942, in Mathis. She was a homemaker and Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Octavio Reyna III of 34 years of Odessa; sons, John Paul Gonzalez and Octavio Reyna IV, both of Odessa; daughters, Rebecca J. Gonzalez of Odessa and Patricia Gonzalez of San Angelo; father, Jesus Vasquez of Odessa; brother, Arturo P. Vasquez of Odessa; sister, Tommie Vasquez of Odessa; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by mother: Juanita P. Vasquez and Pete G. Gonzalez.
She was a beloved wife, loving mother, caring grandmother and a great grandmother.
A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating.
Pallbearers will be Arturo E. Vasquez, Raymon Vasquez, Manuel Vasquez, Henry Enriquez III, Jessie Vasquez, Benito Santos and Paul Robles.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Elsie Mae Coggins

ODESSA - Elsie Mae Coggins, 78, a longtime resident of Odessa passed away Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the Hospice House.
She was born July 19, 1926, in Ash Flat, Arkansas to John and Alda Bates. She married Wayne Coggins in 1943 in Salem, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a active member of Eisenhower Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, two brothers and one grandson.
She is survived by her son, Dale Coggins and wife Christie of Odessa; daughters, June Smith and husband Mike of Odessa, Jane Gibbons and husband Bill of Howell, Michigan; sister, Devine Argent of Concord, California; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Eisenhower Church of Christ with Mike Vestal and Burt Groves officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Family visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice House or Eisenhower Church of Christ.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Reverend Santiago ‘Jimmy’ Sanchez

MIDLAND - Reverend Santiago “Jimmy” Sanchez went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday June 26, 2005, after passing away at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Jimmy was born on April 19, 1937 in Presidio, Texas, to Manuel and Paula Sanchez. At an early age, he and his family moved to Grandfalls and Monahans where he was raised and educated. Later Jimmy attended Wayland College where he received his Ordination for becoming a Pastor.
Jimmy met and married Lidia Soria on June 26, 1959. They lived in various cities following the call of our Lord Jesus Christ. Reverend Santiago Sanchez retired with El Buen Pastor Church in McCamey.
Prayer Service for Reverend Santiago “Jimmy” Sanchez will be on Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Pipkin Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Wall Street. Burial will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Manuel and Paula Sanchez. 1 daughter Ruth Elain Sanchez and 1 sister Ruth Rubio.
He is survived by his wife Lidia S. Sanchez of Odessa; one son, Jacobo “Jake” Sanchez of Midland; six brothers, Manuel Sanchez, Florentino Sanchez, Edwardo Sanchez, Samuel Sanchez, and Enrigue Sanchez, all of Monahans, along with Gilberto Sanchez of Crane; three sisters, Mary Sanchez Garcia and Josefina Molina, both of Monahans, and Olivia Romero of Mansfield; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be: Jake Sanchez Jr., Matthew Santana, Roel Ramos, Erik Munoz, Tino Sanchez and Roy Sanchez.

Arvis ‘Dale’ Stanaland

MIDLAND - Arvis “Dale” Stanaland walked into the arms of his Savior Sunday, June 26, 2005, in Midland. He passed from this life surrounded by his loved ones.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland with Don Mitchell officiating.
Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring with Ralph Anderson of Birdwell Lane Church of Christ officiating.
Dale was born to Hamilton Buchanan and Verna “Alberta” Stanaland on Jan. 21, 1941 in Abilene. He grew up in Big Spring and attended Big Spring High School. Dale was employed in the grocery industry for 35 years and worked for Furr’s Gibson’s, Barnett Brothers Brokerage Company and Best Maid Products.
Dale is survived by his loving daughter, Laurie Beth Hall of Midland, daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Carol and Joel Carl Strickland of Odessa, brother, Carl Lynn Stanaland of Dallas, sister, Peggy Susan Pack of Houston, five grandchildren Jessica Taylor, Casey Taylor, Jeremy Strickland, Garrett Hall, Courtney Strickland, one great-granddaughter, Josalyn Pylant, an aunt Vera “Althea” Stanaland of Abilene and three nieces Brooke Waggoner of Dallas, Lacey Pack and Chelsea Pack of Houston.
Dale was an avid churchgoer and member of Fairmont Park Church of Christ. He loved his grandchildren and they will dearly miss his witty and affectionate sense of humor. Dale loved country music and watching his roses grow in the garden. He was a hardworking man and a good provider all of his life.
Due to an automobile accident in 1991, Dale was left a quadriplegic. The family wishes to express special thanks to his many caregivers over the past 14 years. You are all very special people.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 444 Executive Center Blvd. #234, El Paso, Texas 79902.

Leta V. Russell

CARLSBAD, N.M. - Memorial services for Leta V. Russell, 76, of Carlsbad, N.M. are scheduled for 11 a.m. (MDT) Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ed Kneeland and Chaplain Elena Yoder officiating.
Leta died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Carlsbad Medical Center. She was born March 18, 1929, to Olin and Vonnie Smith Coursey in Edgewood, Texas. She owned and operated Carlsbad Answering Service for more than 15 years.
Leta was an avid golfer and a talented artist. She is preceded in death by her father and grandson Jason Windham.
Survivors include her mother, Vonnie Coursey of Pyote, Texas; three daughters, LaNeta Windham of Hobbs, N.M., Linda Richardson and husband Rich of Enid, Okla., and Donna Kirk and husband Dale of Buchanan Dam, Texas; three brothers, Perry Coursey of Lubbock, Texas, Harold Coursey of Odessa, Texas, and Max Coursey of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lois Holt of Odessa and Mary Downing of Clifton, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Hospice, 611 N. Canal, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home of Carlsbad is in charge of the arrangements.

Byrl Harris

Hobbs, N.M. - Byrl Harris, 88, of Hobbs, N.M., passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Harris served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1943 to 1945. Burl retired as a grocer, before moving to Hobbs in 1974. He invested in several oilfield-related businesses and was considered quite the entrepreneur. He was an avid golfer and loved playing pool. Byrl never met a stranger and loved people. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
His Survivors include brother, Bill Harris of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Mary Lou Talley and husband, Sterling, of Midland; brother-in-law, Vernon Briggs of Hudson, Mich.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Joyce Cummings of Hudson, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Ken and Peggy Dean of Odessa, Rene and Steve Abshier, Lena Rodriguez and Jack Walstad, all of Hobbs; and God-daughter, Sara Billingsley of Norman, Okla.
Funeral Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, July 8, at the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Services are entrusted to the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home of Hobbs.

Virginia C. Huerta

Odessa - Virginia C. Huerta, 76, of Plainview, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in Odessa.
She was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Brownsville, Texas, to Francisco Castillo and Fermina Pena. She united in marriage to Jesus G. Huerta in Edinburg, Texas, in 1948. She was a Christian-Catholic and a caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She spent most of her life in Plainview and was an active members of the Guadalupanas and Cursillistas with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where both she and her husband were devout members for 45 years.
Virginia is survived by her loving and caring husband, who dedicated every moment of his life for the love of his life of 57 years, Jesus Huerta of Odessa; sons, Jesus C. Huerta Jr. of San Antonio, Jaime C. Huerta of Pasadena, and Joey C. Huerta of Odessa; brother, Clemente Castillo of Donna; four grandsons, Joshua Huerta of Odessa, Eric Huerta of Alvin, Jeffrey Huerta of Pasadena, and Timothy Huerta of Fullerton, Calif.; granddaughters, Tabitha Fresquez of The Colony, Leslie Dimas of Odessa, and Melissa Huerta of Fullerton; Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a lot of friends.
We the Huerta and Castillo families would like to express a heartfelt and warm embrace to each and every one of you for your prayers, floral food offerings and especially for your presence with us during this time; may God bless you all, abundantly.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, July 7, at Odessa Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Interment will follow at RoseHill cemetery.
