Dale Weldon Duncan ODESSA - Dale Weldon Duncan, 49, a lifelong resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, April 8, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1955, in Odessa, to Weldon and Johnnie Duncan. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1973. He was Vice President and Sales Manger for Metal Specialties. He coached for his girls softball teams. He enjoyed playing golf. He is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Davila and husband Gerardo of Odessa and Jennifer Duncan of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Johnnie Duncan of Odessa; sisters, Sandra Wood and husband Pete of Nashville, Texas, and Rita McKinney and husband Richard of Colorado City; one granddaughter, who called him “Big Daddy Cool, ” Harley Couch. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Foy E. Freeman LUBBOCK - Foy E. Freeman, 88, of Lubbock, died Friday, April 9, 2005, at his residence. Celebration of Life services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at the Monterey Church of Christ with Rische Beeson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Foy E. Freeman was born July 29, 1916, in Coolidge, Texas, to Henry and Vera (Ragsdale) Freeman. Foy was raised in Dry Prong, La., and he entered the U.S. Army in 1940, serving in World War II. After his discharge, he was a reservist. He married Ellen Anderson on April 26, 1944, in Odessa, Texas. Foy was recalled to the Army in 1950 to serve in the Korean War. He began his career in construction in Odessa after his last discharge. He worked two years in Albuquerque, N.M., and moved to Lubbock in 1966. He worked for H.C. Lewis construction until his retirement in 1988. He was known as a Master Carpenter and Mill Worker. Foy enjoyed building furniture, fishing and traveling with Ellen. Foy was a member of the Monterey Church of Christ of Lubbock and the Carpenter’s Union. Foy is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Freeman of Lubbock; children, Janetta Tradup of Lubbock and Sheri and Larry Vandiver of Lubbock; grandchildren; Kristy Vineyard, Gregory Tradup, Stacey Parrish, Jennifer Davison, John Vineyard, Kevin Klose and Mason Klose; great-grandchildren, Chelsea McClure, Alexis Parrish, Hunter Davison, Bailey Vineyard, Raegan Vineyard and Blake Klose. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lubbock Children’s Home or Hospice of Lubbock. Paul S. McDonald BORGER - Paul S. McDonald, 48, formerly of Amarillo, died Friday, April 8, 2005, in Midland. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at Highland Park cemetery in Borger with Bill Ratchford, pastor at Church of God in Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Paul was born Sept. 17, 1956, in Borger, Texas, to Lloyd and Helen McDonald. He had worked as a grocer. He loved music and sports. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Odessa. He married Judy Oldham on April 15, 1990, in Springfield, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother. Paul is survived by his wife, Judy McDonald of the home; a son, Paul S. McDonald Jr. of Dover, Ark.; a daughter, Aubrey McDonald of Dover, Ark.; three stepsons, David Kinkaide of Dover, Ark., Cheyenne Heymer and wife Wendy of Bolivar, Mo., and Michel Heymer of Canyon; a stepdaughter, Denise Watts of Richland, N.C.; two sisters, Wilma Parker of Houston and Lorraine McDonald of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Joan Bishop of Odessa.; five grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Marvin Ray ‘Blue’ Mondy ODESSA - Marvin Ray “Blue” Mondy, 81, of Odessa, passed from this life into his eternal rest on April 8, 2005 at Avalon Place. He was born on July 22, 1923 in Sweetwater, Texas, to Walter Newton and Willie Bessie (Brewster) Mondy. He was a member of the armed forces and was stationed during World War II in England and France. He married Joan Taylor on May 20, 1946 in Sweetwater, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1957 where he took a job at the new General Tire and Rubber Company. In 1973, at the age of 50, he was baptized and joined his wife Joan as a member of St. Andrew’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from General Tire in 1985. On June 18, 1994 he married Alene Collier in Odessa, Texas. His hobbies were playing golf and feeding the birds. He would purchase three loaves of bread one for himself and two to feed to the birds. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joan and one brother, Alvis Leon Mondy. He is survived by his second wife, Alene Mondy of Odessa; one sister, Blanche Corder of San Angelo; two sons Craig of Tulsa, OK and Carl and his wife Judy of Odessa; one daughter, Cheryl Billingsley and her husband Bruce of Odessa; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by four step-children Don Collier of Denver City, Alma Kitchens and her husband Don of Odessa, Fred Collier and his wife Paula of Abilene, Kathy Smith of Odessa, five step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday in the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be 3:00 pm Monday at the Sweetwater cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 3-5 pm at the funeral home. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Carmen Riggs MIDLAND - Carmen Gonzalez Biden Riggs, of Midland, went to be with her beloved Father in Heaven on Thursday, April 7, 2005. Her family was present at the time of her passing. Carmen was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Big Spring, Texas, to Lucas Gonzalez Jr., and Sarafina Saracho, who precede her in death. She was preceded in death by her sister, CoCo Stewart; brother, Manuel Gonzalez; her husband, Aaron D. Riggs Jr.; and the father of her children, George Thomas Biden Sr. of Maine; and daughter, Hazel Louise Abbott of San Angelo. Carmen is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary Hamilton and husband Vernon of Georgia, Karen Derscheid and husband Hans, Diane Friday and husband Bobby, all of Midland; her son, George Thomas Biden Jr. and wife Nancy, of Midland; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Connie Pool of Odessa and Mary Pitts of Virginia; and one brother, Tony Gonzalez of Huntsville, Texas. Carmen was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by all. May she find peace and serenity, and let us rejoice to know we will see her again in Heaven. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, where Carmen will be laid to rest beside her husband. Granny Sibley ODESSA - Venice Myrtle Waters Sibley or “Granny, ” as she was known to many, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of April 8, 2005. The Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2005, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. in Odessa. Lynn Money will officiate. A prayer once led by her son W.L. will be read by Jonn Sibley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was a Christian and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa for 60 years. She especially enjoyed her Timothy Eunice and Lois “TEL” Sunday School Class lead by Deacon James Kelley. Venice was born November 30, 1909 in Summerville, Georgia to John Millard Waters and Lillie Catherine Cook Waters. She married William “Bill” Leonard Sibley on December 17, 1934 in the little town of West, Texas just north of Waco. They had two children, W.L. and Mary Katherine. Venice and Bill met while working at the cotton mill in West. In 1944, the Sibleys were on their way to California when Bill found work in the oil patch and it was often said, “The family just stayed here, in Odessa, among the pump jacks”. For many years they made their home on South Lee Street. It was in this neighborhood that they formed friendships, which now span several generations. She never learned to drive, and enjoyed walking to work and the grocery store. Venice served for many years in the “World War I Ladies Auxiliary” and once served as President of the Permian Basin Chapter. Her husband had been a World War I Veteran and she wanted to serve those who had bravely fought for our country. After the death of her husband in August of 1970, Venice began a new calling outside the home, caring for children. She became “Granny” to many youngsters and their families in Odessa and Midland. Everyone who met granny knew that she loved children and they grew to love her. Her family was her life; she took great pride in being a good mother and grandmother. When you’d stop by Granny’s, it would not come as a surprise to find her in the kitchen. She loved to cook, and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. Granny is survived by her brother Claude Wesley Waters; a daughter, Mary Katherine Blackwell and her husband Bill; two daughter-in-laws; Patricia Sibley and Opal Tolson. Her grandchildren; Kathy-Ann Bobbitt and her husband Roy, Steve York, Jonn Sibley and his wife Debbie, Paige Fulton and her husband Tom, Sam Tolson, Elizabeth Grady, Sandy Keathley and her husband Greg. Great grandchildren; Nathan Bobbitt, William Hodges, Jordana Hodges, Brian Sibley, Tate Sibley, Kyle York and Scout York. Nephews; Clyde Olen Waters and wife Shirley, Rodney Waters and his wife Peggy, Randy Delmasso and wife Debbie. Niece; Barbara Jean Waters Ross. And the many children for whom she cared. She was preceded in death by her parents John Millard Waters and Lillie Catherine Cook Waters; her brother Floyd Waters, her sisters Ona Pyles and Nona Taylor; two sons W.L. “Bill” Sibley, and Lamar Tolson. Pallbearers are Roy Bobbitt, Randy Delmaso, Tom Fulton, William Hodges, Jonn Sibley and Steve York. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan Bobbitt, Bill Blackwell, Jimmy F. Davidson, John Dungan, Dean Johnston, Brian Sibley, Tate Sibley, and Kyle York. Memorial tributes may be made to The West Texas Food Bank or The Door of Hope Mission. Plez C. Abney Odessa - Plez C. Abney passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005. He was born June 6, 1925, in Wynnewood, Okla. After serving three years in the US Airforce during World War II, he was employed as an auto mechanic, until his retirement. He was employed with the Sewell Motor Co., Chaparral Race Cars, Broncho Chevrolet and Midland Paint and Body. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Nelda Thomas Abney of Odessa; daughter, Gayle Watkins of Odessa; son, Gary and wife Vicki Abney of Odessa; sister, Altha Mae Peterson of Odessa; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Archie and wife Doris of Midland; sister-in-law, Norma Thomas Schell of Sheboygan Wis.; and cousins, nieces and nephews. Burial was Monday, April 25, 2005, in the family plot in Chillicothe. Plez died of leukemia and the family would like to remind everyone to get your blood checked regularly. A memorial fund in his name has been established at American Bank, 701 N. Grant. Opal Dunn Midland - Opal Dunn peacefully passed through the gates of heaven in her sleep to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at her home in Midland. She was born July 20, 1922, in Coleman to Jim Will and Bessie Ray Jackson. She was reared in Coleman and married Berlie A. Dunn on June 22, 1941, in Coleman. They first moved to Midland in 1949. After a brief time in Abilene, they came back to Midland in 1957. She worked at Grammar Murphy and Bed and Bath stores, during her sons’ college years. She has been a faithful member of Kelview Heights Baptist Church since 1964, teaching sixth-grade girls and other Sunday school classes. She was preceded in death by her parents. Opal is survived by her dear husband of 64 years, Berlie; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Deanna Dunn of Midland, and Eddie and Debbie Dunn of Plano; two grandsons and their families: Kirk and Leslie Dunn and great-grandchildren, Blake and Blair Dunn of Midland; Rusty and Heather Dunn and great-granddaughter, Aubrey of Odessa; two granddaughters, Kristen Dunn Hager and her husband, Bryan, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rhesa Dunn of Odessa; four sisters, Ozell Dunn and her husband, Raymond, and Gwen Jackson, both of Midland, Billie Jean Woodard and her husband, Harold, of Odessa, and Betty Ray Mittel and her husband, Glenn, of Bandon, Ore.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and nephews. The apples of her eye were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was her joy to serve them “tea parties” any time they came to see her. Her strong and courageous response to illness during her five and a half year battle with cancer showed her quiet trust in God’s love during trials. She carried this heavy burden with great grace. We, her children, “rise up and call [her] blessed. Many daughters have done virtuously, but [she] excellest them all (Proverbs 31:28).” “Strength and honor are her clothing (Proverbs 31:25).” She is rejoicing now. Her labor has ended. Our dear Lord has said, “Well done, good and faithful servant, . . . enter thou into the joy of the Lord (Ma. 25:23).” Making a home for her family was, after her devotion to her Lord, the center and focus of her life. She loved every aspect, even the cleaning. Even when too weak to clean, her “fingers itched” to scrub the house until it shone. An extremely talented seamstress, she used her talents to create clothing and wonderful keepsakes that many of us will forever treasure. She cared for the love of her life, her dear husband Berlie in an extraordinary and remarkable way. She gave him reverence, love, and devotion. “The heart of her husband safely trusts in her (Proverbs 31:11).” To many of us, Opal was a dear friend and mentor who taught us how to be a gracious and Godly woman, wife, mother, and mother-in-law. She fostered and modeled an unconditional love and enjoyment of family that made our gatherings a great tribute to God’s grace. This joy shows that she “taught her children well.” She has passed on a legacy of blessing to generations to come, a precious heritage that will continue on to descendents that she will never know except in eternity. She will be numbered with the quiet, unsung heroes of faith that never sought the earthly limelight. Since she loved God and loved people passionately, her memory will be a rare and priceless jewel to all whose lives were touched by hers. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Eddie and Debbie who graciously came to live with and provide care for her during the last three months of her life. Also, thanks to the persons who served her at Allison Cancer Center and Home Hospice. Their compassion, love and skill were such a comfort to Berlie, Opal and the family, during her lengthy illness. Sammy Lawrence Genovese Odessa - Graveside services for Sammy Lawrence Genovese, 59, a longtime resident of Odessa, are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Genovese passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at the University Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born July 10, 1945, in Pueblo, Colo., to William and Joyce Genovese. He was a crane operator and a Catholic. He served in the US Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War. Most of all, he was a loving father. Those who knew him loved and respected him. He will be remembered and missed by all. He is survived by his long time companion, Elizabeth Genovese of Odessa; daughters, Tammy Zieschang, Rebecca Rodriguez and Tina Stutts, all of Odessa; mother, Joyce Genovese of San Antonio; brother, William Genovese of Aransas Pass; sisters, Shirlie Evans of Victoria, and Cathy Miller of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Shona Lyn Harvey Crane - Shona, age 42, of Crane, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at her residence. A graveside memorial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Crane cemetery. She was born in Crane. She was a Christian. She is survived by her mother, Frankie Harvey; father, Derell Harvey; grandmother, Frieda Young of Odessa; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many good friends.
