Lillie Mae Walsh Steen

Odessa - Lillie Mae Walsh Steen, 74, of Odessa, died peacefully on August 23, 2005, with her family by her side after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Disease.
A family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27th, at Frank Wilson Funeral Chapel with graveside services at Monahans Memorial cemetery in Monahans.
Lillie Mae was born on Dec. 12, 1930, in Ranger, Texas, to Percy Dean Walsh and Grace Haney Walsh. She graduated from Monahans High School in 1948 and was a resident of Odessa for 37 years where she retired from Dillard’s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa, where she sang in the choir. She will be remembered fondly for her faith in the Lord, her caring spirit, her strong will and her love of family and friends.
Her legacy is carried on by her son, Kevin Steen and wife, Carol; and daughters, Tracy Millican and husband, Doug, Treva Flanagan, all of Odessa, and Pam McMaster of Georgetown; grandchildren, Brandon Steen of Nashville, Tenn., Misty Steen, Mason Steen, Jason Bowling and wife, Amy, and Hilary Millican of Odessa, Dee Dee Hawes and husband Cody, and Shelley Ray and husband, Rob, both of Georgetown; great-grandchildren, Britton, Tristian and Dalton Hawes of Georgetown, and Jas Bowling of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her son, Sean Steen; mother, Grace Walsh; father, Percy Walsh; brothers, Dean, Cline, James (Pug), Gene and Gloyd Walsh; and sister, Juanita Bawcom.
Pallbearers will be: Jason Bowling, Brandon Steen, Mason Steen, Cody Hawes, Rob Ray and Sean Alley.
Honorary Pallbearers: Britton and Dalton Hawes and Jas Bowling.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, TX 79761, or Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., P.O. Box 11390, Tempe, AZ 85284.
Services are entrusted to Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.

Clarence Edward Christian

Sunrise: Dec. 8, 1936—Sunset: Aug. 23, 2005
Odessa - Clarence Edward Christian was born in Cameron, Texas, Dec. 8, 1936, to the parentage of the late Fred Martin and Flozella Christian. He attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated in 1956 from D.W. Wallace High School in Colorado City, Texas. While in high school, he was a member of the basketball and track teams. Standing 6 foot 2, he was nicknamed “Treetop.” He attended Howard College in Big Spring and Odessa College.
He married his high school sweetheart, Rosie Lee Marshall March 9, 1958, at the Canaan Baptist Church in Loraine, Texas. Shortly after marriage they moved to Odessa, Texas. Four children were born to this union. Due to the death of his Mother-in-law during childbirth, he and his wife raised her baby brother (Bobby Marshall) from an infant. They were a very devoted couple and loved spending time together as well as with their five children.
At an early age, he confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church where he served as president of the Jr. Deacon Board at the age of 15. After moving to Odessa, he became a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church in 1962. He and Jesse B. Watkins were the first deacons to be ordained by the Rev. Rufus McClain in 1964. Clarence held the following offices at St. Matthew Baptist Church: member of the deacon board, president of Willing Workers, Sunday school superintendent, Brotherhood president, Men’s Sunday school class teacher, president of the Senior Choir, B.T.U. president, treasurer of the Citywide Brotherhood, and chairman of the Finance Committee. His exact words were as follows: “I hope that I was a good firm deacon to lead others in the right way.”
After 21 years of service, he retired from Amoco Production Company in 1994. He enjoyed studying God’s Word, spending time with his family, eating and bowling. He made many friends by way of his outgoing friendly personality and his bubbly sense of humor.
Some of his favorite quotes were: “Hey Chief, ” “Look at that Joker, ” and “Hotter than a 45.” His favorite scripture was II Timothy 2:15 — “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Martin and Flozella Christian; two brothers, William Charles and Martin Christian; and one sister, Lena Tillis.
Clarence left behind to cherish his memories his wife of 45 years, Rosie Lee Christian; three sons, Edward Eugene Christian and wife, Brenda, Darrell Wayne Christian and wife, Kara, of Odessa, and Bobby Lee Marshall of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Regina Christian McKnight and husband, Bruce, and Serena Christian Beard and husband, Demond, both of Odessa; three brothers, Tommy and wife, Doretha, Jonathan and wife, Sharon, Levi and wife, Rose, Christian all of Odessa; five sisters, Mahalie Roberts of Houston, Texas, Thelma Cook of Dallas, Texas, Idell Tatum of Odessa, Ruby Terry Meadows of Athens, Georgia and Mary Hubert and husband, Lucious, of Andrews, Texas; daughter-in-law, Donna Allen of Odessa; eight grandchildren, Damian Christian, Ryan Adkins, Dawn Berry, Delandra and Deleisha Christian, Dashira Jeffery, Dorrian and Deja McKnight; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and Sunday at Martinez Funeral Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2005, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at RoseHill cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.

Ellen Freeman

LUBBOCK - Ellen Freeman, 82, of Lubbock, passed away at her residence, Friday, Aug. 26, 2005.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Monterey Church of Christ on West 82nd St., with Rische Beeson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Ellen Freeman was born July 6, 1923 in Eola, Texas, to John and Rosa (Jones) Anderson. Ellen grew up in Eola, graduating from Eola High School. She moved to Odessa and began working at Woolworth’s.
She married Foy E. Freeman on April 26, 1944, and together they opened in Odessa a children’s clothing store and a fabric store. They moved to Camp Bullis in San Antonio for a time and returned to Odessa. In 1954, they moved to Tulsa, Okla., and again returned to Odessa in 1956. They also lived in Albuquerque and moved to Lubbock in 1966. Ellen worked at Hemphill-Wells as a fabric buyer. She later opened her own business, “Dolls by Ellen.” Ellen and Foy often traveled to doll shows.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Foy; sisters, Lil Langford, Edna Ray DeJarnett and Vernell Carrol; and a brother, John Anderson Jr.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Janetta Tradup and Sheri Vandiver and husband Larry of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kristi Vineyard, Gregory Tradup, Stacey Parrish, Jennifer Aldrete, John Vineyard, Kevin Klose and Mason Klose; great-grandchildren, Chelsea McClure, Alaxis Parrish, Hunter Davidson, Bailey Vineyard, Raegan Vineyard and Blake Klose.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lubbock Children’s Home or Hospice of Lubbock.

Faye Myrtle Phillips

ODESSA - Faye Phillips, age 99 of Odessa, died Friday, August 26, 2005 at Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, August 29, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Daniel Kowacich officiating.
She was born July 1, 1906 in Whiterock, TX to Robert George and Clara Clyde (Davis) Ross.
Faye Phillips was the first LVN to receive a certificate from Odessa College in the LVN program. She started working at Medical Center Hospital in 1949 the year the hospital opened and worked there for 25 years until her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of LVN Association of Texas the Senior Citizens Center, Katie Kitchen Band and Quilting Group in Lovington. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lovington, New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Ross and sister Verah Black.
She is survived by a son, Roy Doyce Phillips of Granberry, daughter, Peggy Jean McWilliams of Odessa, brother, Joe D. Ross of Midland, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Amparo Hernandez

Victoria - Amparo Tavarez Hernandez, 78 years of age, passed away Friday, August 26, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born in Mexico and was a homemaker. Funeral services will be Monday, August 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at RoseHill cemetery. Survivors include husband, Genardo Hernandez, sons, Genardo Hernandez Jr., Felix Hernandez, Jesus Jose Hernandez, Samuel Hernandez, Saul Hernandez and Jose Hernandez, daughters, Nancy H. Castillo, Gilda H. Guerrero, Nimfa Hernandez, Irma Rodriguez and Rosalina Hernandez all of Odessa, brother, Cruz Tavarez of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, sisters, Santos Tavarez of Odessa, Eva Madrid of Midland, Rita Moreno of Monahans, Dominga Villa Senor and Refugo Nieto both of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, 35 grandchildren, and 47 great grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Ermyne Hazel Blevins

Odessa - Ermyne Blevins, 90, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at Seabury Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 1, at St. Andrews Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Odessa with the Dr. Jimmy Braswell and the Rev. Henry Freund officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 2, at Green Memorial cemetery in Wilson, Texas.
Ermyne was born February 28, 1915, in Westminster, Texas, to Owen and Maude (Taylor) Blevins. She attended Odessa College. She worked for Odessa Wholesale Grocery, was a partner in “M” Systems Grocery and Café, then worked for Rodman Supply, Conner Construction Co. for 21 years in clerical work, Ex-Cel Fabricators and then Odessa Office Supply.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Blevins and Hugh Blevins; and her sister, Estell Foster.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Blevins of Wilson, Texas; and sisters, Thelma Fransler of Amarillo, and Fay Atchison of Lubbock; eight nieces; and eight nephews.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home.

Charlie Burns

Kilgore - Services for Mr. Charlie Burns, 85, of Kilgore will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2005, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Burial will follow at the Crim’s Chapel cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 1, at the Rader Funeral Home.
Mr. Burns passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Tyler.
He was born October 13, 1919, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, and was raised in the New London and Overton area by his mother and stepfather, Essie and Sam Howes. He married Edelle Roper of Henderson on August 30, 1941. In 1942, he entered the Army Air Corps and served as a B-24 flight engineer with the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy. Bound for redeployment in the Pacific Theatre after the victory in Europe, Staff Sgt. Burns was undergoing B-29 training in Nevada when World War II ended. In 1947, he went to work as a roustabout for Tidewater Oil Co. in New London. He worked in Palestine, Athens, Cayuga, Snyder, Midland and Sprayberry as well. The company later became Getty Oil Co. and then Texaco. Mr. Burns retired in 1984 as a production foreman in Crane, Texas. He returned to East Texas and farmed in Kilgore.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edelle Burns; two daughters, Legene Gay of Bullard, and Alice Lowery of Kilgore; three grandchildren, Angela Gay Newberry of Leander, Gene Lowery of Shreveport, La., and Leah Lowery Mann of Cypress; and six great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family and friends.
Mr. Burns is preceded in death by his half-sister, Florence Howes Jackson; and two half-brothers, Raymond and Albert Howes.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of East Texas or the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Northeast Texas Inc.

Caroline Agnes Cook

PLAINVEW - Services for Caroline Agnes Cook, 78, of Odessa, Texas, formerly of Plainview, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas, with burial following at Parkland Memorial Gardens in Plainview under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
The Rev. Joe P. Weldon, pastor of South Plain Baptist Church in South Plains will be officiating. The Rev. Steve Martin, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, will be assisting.
She died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at her residence under Hospice care in Odessa, Texas.
She was born to Frederick H. Cook and Mary Agnes Sharrow Cook.
Upon graduating from Commerce High School, she was employed by Mass Mutual Insurance Co. She later owned and managed a tourist home in Springfield. She lived in Plainview for 35 years, where she worked as Executive Housekeeper at the old Plainview Hospital and later manager the Western Motel in Plainview. She did nurses aide work at Heritage Home and Nichols Hospital in Plainview.
Her last job before retiring was at the Dixie Shop — a dress shop in Plainview. Due to ill health, she moved in October 1997 to Odessa to be near her doctors and her two children, Barbara and Pam.
Survivors: Three daughters, Barbara Langston and Pamela Cox, both of Odessa and Thomasina Pierce of Plainview; seven grandchildren: James Bench, Stephen Pierce, Branden Pierce of Plainview, David Langston, Kimberly Cox, Kristel Cox of Odessa and Melissa Herrington of Austin; and three great-granddaughters.

Felecia Ruth Guidry

Brandon - Felecia Ruth Guidry, 58, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at her residence in Brandon after a three-year battle with cancer.
Visitation will be at noon Friday, Sept. 2, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Brandon Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Guidry was a native of Newton County, a longtime resident of Rankin County and a Baptist. She was a graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, and worked as an accountant for Georgia Pacific for seven years.
Survivors include her husband. Steven Guidry of Brandon; daughters, Sonya Froelich and her husband, Phil, and Shelly Little and her husband, Brad, all of Brandon; parents, Durward and Ruth Loper of Decatur; grandchildren, Tyler Froelich, Abbie Ulmer and Brittany Little; sisters, Brenda Clearman of Meridian, and Gwen Burns of Brandon; and three dogs, Buck, Peanut and Chester.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Paul Seago and staff, Dr. Ruth Fredricks and staff and too all friends and family, who have faithfully given prayers and support.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Miss. Division, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS, 39213; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000—Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148; or the Animal Rescue League, 4395 South Drive, Jackson, MS 39209.

Ruby Faye Osburne

Odessa - Ruby Faye Osburne, 94, passed away August 30th, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
Ruby was born August 17, 1911, in Ruby, Arkansas, to C.C. Coleman and Edna Temple, where she was reared and educated. She married Ruben Daniel Osburne on June 20th, 1931, in Mountainberg, Arkansas. Ruby loved to make crafts for all the kids, and she loved to put on Sunday dinner for the whole family. She worked as a homemaker all her life and was a wonderful cook, wife and mother to all.
Mrs. Osburne is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Clarence Osburne; a daughter, Treva Marler; three brothers; and a sister.
Ruby is survived by her sister; Bonnie Kimes of Newhall, California; brother, Doyle Coleman of Denton, Texas; daughters, Laberta Martin, Elva Blackmon and Donna Brown, all of Odessa; 12 grandchildren, and too many great-great-great-grandchildren to count.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Mrs. Osburne will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 3rd, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Services have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

James ‘Jim’ Clyde Pickett

Odessa - James “Jim” Clyde Pickett passed away August 30th, 2005, at his residence, in Odessa, Texas.
James was born January 24th, 1922, in Eagle Lake, Texas. His father, James F. Pickett and step-father, Archie Kinser and Erva Crawford raised Jim in Sherwood, Texas, where he attended public schools. Jim was a member of the United States Navy and provided service as a motor machinist until 1945. After his separation he met, and married Neva Louise Smith on December 17th, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas.
As a young man after marring Louise, he enjoyed being a cowboy for several ranches in the Concho Valley. Mr. Pickett was a retired water well driller based in Odessa, Texas, since the 1950’s, retiring in 1987 and was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4372.
Mr. Pickett is survived by his sons, Jimmy Pickett and wife, Cathy, from Mission Viejo, California, Roy Pickett and wife, Candy, from Odessa, Texas, C.V. Pickett and wife, Marguerite, from San Angelo, Texas, and Roland Pickett and wife, Anjie, from Canyon Lake, Texas; his brother, Buddy Kinser of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Toy Henry and husband, Darin, Tami Heacock and husband, David, Kimberly Boykin and husband, Matthew, Coy Pickett and wife, Jennifer, Justin Pickett, Shereen Burns, Jason Pickett, James Pickett, Meagan Pickett and Hollye Pickett; great-grandchildren, Cara, Nick, Zack, Blaise, Caden and Riley.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 1st, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 2nd, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by V.F.W. No. 4372.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
