Some called him “Roy” and others “R.E.” but all who knew him, loved him. He was a loving family man and a loyal friend. His friendships were far-reaching from those he worked with to his church family to his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America.
At the time of his death, R.E. was the Scoutmaster of Troop 34, a position he held for the past 6 years. Prior to that, he was a Den Leader and Cubmaster for Pack 58. R.E. was called out for the Order of the Arrow and went through Ordeal and Brotherhood, and was called out for Vigil in December 2003, earning his Vigil January 2004. One of his favorite duties in the Order was serving as cook and all Scouters knew his campfire grub was closer to four-star restaurant meals. The true measure of his commitment to Scouts was evident in the way he mentored the boys in his troop. He was always on the look-out for new adventures or new things to teach them. He guided them with firm yet loving counsel and he enjoyed the fellowship of the troop and all of his friends in the Buffalo Trail Council.
He made the time to help anyone who asked and he loved to get fully involved in any project that interested him. R.E. was a very loving, caring, giving man who was full of life and joy! He loved his Boy Scout Troop and being involved in the camping and all activities that helped his boys grow strong in every way! R.E. also loved his many hobbies including model building, whittling, arrowhead hunting and reading. His love of reading made him a master of all trades with a knack for remembering details or stories that he could recall at just the right times.
Roy also had an enormous amount of friends in life who he always remembered. He always had a story to relate for any occasion involving any one of his friends! Roy was a full- time family man, who loved his family and friends more than life itself. We will miss him dearly now that he has left us here on earth to be with Jesus. But with all of his interests and abilities, we know God will put him to work.
