Lloyd Jordan
Odessa - Lloyd Jordan was born in a rural community of Duke, Oklahoma on February 23, 1928, the second son of Clarence and Stella Jordan.
The Jordan family was a large sharecropping household. The family moved to Muleshoe, Texas in 1929 at the height of the Great Depression, where Lloyd’s father taught him to play mandolin and guitar. By 1943, the family had moved again to Clovis, New Mexico, where Lloyd juggled music with sports; winning First Team All-State football honors for Clovis High. In 1950, he served with the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
Lloyd began playing music professionally in 1946. Over the course of his 61 year career, he played with many notable performers such as his brother Troy, Hank Harrell, Lefty Frizzell, Ray Reed, the Clyde Miller Band, Tommy Allsup, Tommy Duncan, Billy Gray, Jesse Ashlock, Billy Thompson, Dean Baker, Bob Lee and Don McDaniels. In October, 1997, Lloyd was inducted into the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame in Sacramento, California, and in May, 2005, he was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in San Marcos, Texas.
After returning to Odessa in 1958, he met and married Gloria Williams. They have two children, Kelly, born in 1960 and Gina, born in 1963.
He is survived by Gloria of Odessa, his son, Kelly of Midland, daughter, Gina of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Joseph and Kelly. His surviving siblings include Esta Lee Evangelista of Simi, California, Naoma Mealer of Odessa and Pike Jordan of Farwell, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 6507 Brown Ave, Odessa, Texas. For more information contact Kelly Jordan at (432) 686-0177.

William Frederick Brandt
October 29, 1921 to January 31, 2007
William Frederick Brandt, a recent resident of Rhome, Texas, and a long-time resident of Odessa, Texas, died after a short illness, January 31, 2007, at his home in Rhome, Texas.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur, Texas.
Cremation will follow.
William Frederick Brandt, well known as Bill Brandt by his friends was born October 29, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William Brandt Sr. and Teresa Newman. On August 3, 1945, he married Toylena Bullard. Bill and his wife spent most of their sixty-one years of marriage in the Permian Basin, (10 years in McCamey, Texas, nine years in Crane, Texas, for 39 years in Odessa, Texas).
They have four children: Roger Brandt (Frances) of Rhome, Texas, Shirley Holt (Rex) of Clovis, New Mexico, Charles Brandt, deceased and William Lee Brandt (Kay) of Noel, MO.
Bill is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bill was a veteran of World War II, Army Air Corps, and his favorite things were working on cars, and taking care of his yard.

James William ‘Buddy’ Carpenter
Odessa - James William ‘Buddy’ Carpenter, 86, of Odessa, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in Odessa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Clark Rocca and Don Allen officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
He was born in Oklahoma City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors Son, J. Dan Carpenter of Odessa and James William “Bill” Carpenter of Midland; daughter, Kathryn “Kay” Carpenter Batte of Odessa; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lillie Faye Gallentine
Andrews - Lillie Faye Gallentine, 84, of Andrews, died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at her residence.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Gaines County cemetery with Johnny Miller officiating. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
She was born in Peacock. She was Baptist.
Survivors Sons, Dick Lemons of Abilene and Donnie Lemons of Hammond, Okla.; daughter, Fayrene Latimer of Andrews; sister, Jesse Nichols of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Magdaleno Garcia
Alpine - Magdaleno Garcia, 89, of Alpine, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Odessa.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Miguel Alcuino officiating. Burial will be at Marathon cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton.
He was born in Marathon.
Survivors Sons, Jesus Garcia of Alpine, Raul Garcia and Gabriel Garcia, both of Houston, and Jose Garcia of Austin; daughter, Baudelia Garcia Leyva of Alpine; brothers, Liborio U. Garcia of San Anna, Calif., Baudilio U. Garcia of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Alberto U. Garcia of Marathon; sister, Angelita Garcia of Alpine; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jack Jolly Henderson
Odessa - Jack Jolly Henderson, 76, of New Braunfels, an automotive salesman, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in New Braunfels.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Banas officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Sonora. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors Wife, Judy Henderson of New Braunfels; daughters, Lee Andra Bennett and Sherry Bellamy, both of New Braunfels, Carla Love of Odessa and Jackie Henderson of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; brother, Perry Henderson of Houston; sisters, Dorthy Barho of Austin, Billie Hearn of Sheridan, Jill Haley of Ballinger and June Prater of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lina Marlene Murray
Odessa - Lina Marlene Murray, 58, of Odessa, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in Odessa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa with the Rev. Marcus Zuniga officiating. Burial will be at Monahans cemetery.
She was born in Freer.
Survivors Husband Larry Murray of Odessa; daughter, Rachael Pool of Odessa; brother, Gary Warnosky of Wichita, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

DeLois Ann Rodgers
Monahans - DeLois Ann Rodgers, 73, of Monahans, a retired waitress, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Odessa.
No services will be held. Arrangements are by Harkey Family Funeral Services.
She was born in Hopeville, Calif.
Survivors Son, Bobby Rodgers of Monahans; daughter, Glenda Dayberry of Longview; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Coby Dale Uhlhorn
Odessa - Coby Dale Uhlhorn, 30, of Odessa, died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Odessa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors Wife, Heather Uhlhorn; daughter, Ashley Uhlhorn; parents, Billy and Lisa Uhlhorn; and grandparents, Norma Deas and Mary Uhlhorn.

Braulio Vargas
Kermit - Braulio Vargas, 19, of Kermit, a student at the University of Texas at El Paso, died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso.
A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. John Lucido officiating.
He was born in San Jose, Calif. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors Parents, Gregorio and Marivel Vargas of Kermit; grandparent, Steven Vargas of Jalisco, Mexico; brother, Alejandro Vargas of Kermit; and sister, Monica Vargas of Kermit.

Juan Avila
Fort Stockton - Juan Avila, 50, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in Amarillo.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Floro Hinacay officiating. Burial will be at Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery.
She was born in Mexico.

Maria ‘Nana’ Tavares Granado
Midland - Maria “Nana” Tavares Granado, 88, of Midland, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, in Midland.
Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at La Biblia Abierta with the Rev. Reynaldo Bennette officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery.
She was born in Yuma, Ariz.

Odessa - Francisco Morales, 84, of Odessa, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Avalon Nursing Home.
Mass will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.
She was born in Los Angeles. She was Catholic.

Travis James Morgan
Odessa - Travis James Morgan, 70, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapel with Joe Leos officiating.
He was born in Comanche. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors Wife, Anita K. Morgan of Odessa; sons, Scott Travis Morgan of Abilene and Tony James Morgan of Odessa; daughters, Donna Beth Lowery of Trenton and Kristy K. Cochran of Gadsden, Ala.; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

McCamey - Julia Cuellar Sanchez, 97, of McCamey, a homemaker, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at McCamey Convalescent Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Steve Farina officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
She was born in El Paso. She was a member of the Apostolic Church.
