Bettie Jean Rowell

Bettie Jean Rowell was born in Lake Charles, La., on April 12, 1932, and peacefully passed away on Sept. 19, 2008, in Lubbock.

Those left to cherish her memory include husband, Donnie, Sr.; children, Gloria, Pamela, Donnie, Jr., and Donna; and her eight grandchildren.

Bettie was passionate with her family and was a loving and giving person. She will be missed but remembered until we meet again.

Family and friends are invited to attend her services at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Christ the King, 4011 54th St.

Faye Powers

Faye Powers, 98, of Dimmitt passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in Dimmitt. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clint Young officiating. Family visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being made by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Faye Powers was born July 24, 1910 in Chilicothe to James and Julia Belk. She attended school in Hale Center. She married Jack B. Powers on March 2, 1927 in Plainview. She was a member of the Lee St. Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Joe Powers of Idalou and Jackie Powers of Dimmitt; her daughter, Doris Russell of Lubbock; and one brother, Lloyd Belk of Plainview. She also had 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Powers; three brothers; three sisters; and two sons, Wayne and A.R. Powers.

Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

Jimmy D. Pritchard

Graveside services for Jimmy D. Pritchard, formerly of Magnolia, Lubbock, and Dickens, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Spur Cemetery in Spur with the Rev. Tommy Henderson officiating. Jimmy passed away in Lubbock September 11, 2008.

His parents, two brothers, and six sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by four sons, Jerry and wife Celine, Craig and wife Kim, Jeff and wife Jennifer, and Barry; nine grandchildren; a sister, Willie Quattlebaum of Spur; nieces and nephews.

Jerry Don Roedler

Celebration of life services for Jerry Don Roedler, 65, of Lubbock will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Dr. Curtis Sellers officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation was held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Jerry Don was born June 20, 1943 in Merkel to J.D. and Lera (Webb) Roedler. He graduated from Levelland High School. Jerry Don married Frances Joyce Wheat on March 15, 1964. He was area manager for Morton Food in the Houston-Galveston area and was later employed by Mrs. Baird's. Jerry's Christian beliefs were founded in the Nazarene Church. He was preceded in death by his father.

His survivors include his mother, Lera; Frances; three daughters, Melanie and Archie, Tonia and Felix, Devon and Scott; grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Ashley, Jr., Amanda, Cody, Jacob; and great-granddaughter, Lera.

Vera F. Lyles

Graveside services for Vera F. Lyles, 100, of Lubbock were held 12 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Dr. Ken Horn officiating.

Vera F. (Jackson) was born September 13, 1908 in Eden and passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

She had been a resident at the Marretta House since March 15, 2007, where she was treated with respect, dignity, and with excellent care. Vera was preceded in death by her son, Ward Watley, who died during WWII, and by her husband, Earl J. Lyles.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Dorthy Watley.

Donald "Curly" Lawler Sr.

Donald Lynn Lawler Sr., 78, of Lubbock was born in Canton Feb. 2, 1927 to Wesley Carol and Mary Lou Lawler. He passed Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005. He married the love of his life, Mary Francis Mauldin, in 1954. His wife preceded him in death in 1998. He was a 1957 graduate of Texas Technological College. He served in General Patton's 3rd Army in World War II and was then discharged to the Air Force to serve in the Korean War. He received two honorable discharges for his service to his country. He was a Christian and a republican.

Mr. Lawler was a retired U.S. Postal Carrier and a West Texas Country music legend. He was an accomplished violinist, but the fiddle was his love. He shared that love and talent throughout the years, playing at the West Texas Opry and with numerous West Texas greats such as, Tommy Hancock, Jimmy Mackey, Cecil Caldwell, Maines Brothers, Texas Playboys and Joe Ely, to name a few.

His greatest accomplishment was a loving family who survive him. He is survived by two sons, Donald Lawler Jr. and James Lawler; two daughters, Cynthia Brecht and Patsy Nicholas, all of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Matthew Crawford, Dustin Nicholas, Nathan Crawford, Jennifer Moncrief, Blakni Riley, Jonathan Nicholas, Brian Lawler, and Travis Lawler; and six great-grandchildren. A grandson, Curry Brecht, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends and family from 5:30 until 7 p.m. tonight at Rix Funeral Directors.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Jeremiah Baby J.D. Crump

Celebration of life services for Jeremiah Davidson Crump, 3 months, of Lubbock will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday.

"Baby J.D." was born on June 20, 2008, in Lubbock to James D. Crump and Jessica Fleming. He passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Frank and Reba Louise Crump; great-grandmother, JoAnn Blair; and two aunts, Delores Mendez and Shirley Ducan.

Survivors include his mother and father; a brother, James DeWayne Crump, Jr.; four sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Crump, Krystal Michelle Crump, Alura Molina Fleming-Ramirez; and Jade Lyn Rachelle Lewis; and three grandparents, Martha Fleming, Jimmy Fleming, and Elmer Elmore.

Arthur Evitt

LITTLEFIELD (Special) = Funeral services for Arthur Wesley Evitt, 90, of Littlefield will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel with Odell Farr of Duggan Avenue Church of Christ in Littlefield officiating.

Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park under direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.

He died at 11:06 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield.

He was born July 12, 1909, in Graham. He moved to Littlefield in 1944 and lived there until 1972.

While in Littlefield he work at Byers Grain. In 1972 he moved to Portales, N.M., where he lived until moving to Tucumcari, N.M.

He moved from Tucumcari to Amarillo, where he lived until moving back to Littlefield in May of 1997.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Chatwell of Littlefield and Billie Reese of Lubbock; a son, Wayne Evitt of Lafayette, La.; a brother, Mitchell Evitt of Levelland; two sisters, Lilie Dunlap of Levelland and Thelma Baldwin of Littlefield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Robert J. Bob Meador

Memorial services for Robert J. "Bob" Meador will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, Lubbock with Dr. Keith Wiseman officiating and Dr. Jay Horton assisting. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Meridian, Texas. He was a graduate of Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. He married Wanda Baker in March of 1951, and they resided and worked in Lubbock.

Bob was a long time Steel Company employee. He served with Mosher Steel Company, Robberson Steel Company, and was currently President, COO, of W&W; Steel LLP. Bob sold and furnished the structural steel of many of the buildings in Lubbock. He furnished the steel for First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Lubbock City Hall, Civic Center, Municipal Coliseum, Methodist Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, and many other structures at Texas Tech and throughout Lubbock.

Bob was a past member of American Institute of Steel Construction, Southwest Steel Fabricators, Texas Structural Institute, Lubbock Club, etc. He was a member of First Methodist Church, the Rafters Sunday School Class and had served on the Administrative Board, the Building Committee and other Committees at the church. Bob was active in all phases of steel construction in the Western part of the United States. He operated farms and ranching interests on the South Plains and had various oil and gas interests in Texas and Oklahoma. He was an active principal and officer of Meador Oil Company.

Bob is survived by wife, Wanda Meador of Lubbock; son, Jay Meador of Lubbock; daughter, Cari Meador Dillon and husband Dennis of Lubbock; sister, Beverly Riley and husband, J.B. of Burkburnett; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kelly Dillon; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials to First United Methodist Church Everlasting Trust at 1411 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas 79401 are suggested.
