Lillian Edwards

Services for Lillian Gertrude Edwards, 85, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Monterey Church of Christ with the Rev. Nat Cooper officiating and E.C. Leslie and Ray Bailey assisting.

Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

She died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Elderhaven Nursing Home.

She was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Muskogee, Okla. She married Hermon Edwards on Dec. 11, 1937, in Lubbock. She was a member of the Monterey Church of Christ and Lubbock Christian University associates. She worked for Margaret's Specialty Shop for more than 23 years.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Scott on July 13, 1992, and Jeffery on Aug. 15, 1995.

Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Lucille Schrampfer of Silver City, N.M., and Lois Mass of Hartshorne, Okla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Armour

James Armour, 83, of Lubbock passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008, in Slaton.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Morton Memorial Cemetery with Jeff McCreight officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Pallbearers will be Clinton Lane, Brandon Armour, Brad Armour, Cory Taylor, Lance Taylor, and Rod Taylor.

James was born on March 14, 1925 on the Table Top Mountains in Garvin County, Okla. He married Leola Jennings on December 9, 1946 in Wellington, Kan. He worked for over 40 years as a forklift mechanic in the Lubbock area.

James is survived by his wife, Leola; two children, Larry Armour of Lubbock and Nioka Taylor of Lubbock; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; four sisters, Cassie Tucker of Monahans, Texas; Juanita Jennings, Neoma Hayes, and Evia Calhoun, all of California; and one brother, H.V. Armour of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Oretha Jennings of California, and one brother, Doug Armour of Littlefield.

Mary Jean Hoover Mayfield

Memorial services for Mary Jean Hoover Mayfield, 76, of Levelland will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Head & Duarte Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Vernon, of First Baptist Church, officiating.

She died Monday, Sept. 5, in Levelland.

Mary Jean was born Feb. 20, 1927 in Marionville, Pa. to Mabel Haslett and Warren Hoover. In 1935 she moved to Texas and has been a resident of Levelland since 1982. She attended West Texas A&M; University in Canyon, where she met Gene Mayfield. They couple married January 1950 in Pampa. Mrs. Mayfield was known as a very respected lady who would help anyone in need. She was a homemaker and a very private person.

Survivors include her daughter, Rhonne Gary of Amarillo; sons, Steve Mayfield of Grapevine, and Stan Mayfield of Lubbock; sister, Katie Bryant of Pampa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.

Memorial donations may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or to a charity of your choice.

William Michael (Bill) Beauvais

William Michael (Bill) Beauvais, 59, of Lubbock, formerly of Midland, returned home to the Lord Saturday, June 21, 2008, after a brief illness with his immediate family attending his side. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Larry Hood officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.

Bill was born on July 10, 1948, in Ardmore, Okla., to Ralph J. and Mona Ruth Beauvais. After his father passed just prior to the Korean War, Billy's mother married Curtis Callaway, an engineer with Mobil Oil, in 1956. Their family then moved to Morgan City, La., in 1957, where his sister, Teressa, was born. Due to transfer, they were then relocated to Hobbs, N.M., where Bill finished his high school education, graduating at Hobbs High School. He went on to complete his education with a Bachelors of Business Administration and, later, a Masters degree in Mass Communications from Texas Tech, both with honors.

He married Ann Byford in the summer of 1969. The pride of his life was the birth of his son, Curtis Brian Beauvais. One of his greatest moments was watching his son complete a degree, also from Texas Tech, with a Masters in Physician Assistant studies, also with honors.

Bill had a long, proud career utilizing his degree in newspaper advertising. He worked with several papers across the state of Texas, but his greatest professional achievement was a career of 25 years services with the Midland Reporter Telegram. Bill was also very active in the Midland community. During his stay with the paper, he volunteered with several organizations, most notably the following: Board of Directors, Permian Basin Advertising Federation; Officer, Texas Advertising Managers Association; President, Big Brothers Big Sisters; Board of Directors, Midland United Way, Member Allocation Commission; Board of Directors, Volunteer Center; annual volunteer, Christmas in April; volunteer with the Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors, Better Business Bureau; and board member, Ranch Rodeo.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his stepfather. He is survived by his loving family, including son, Curtis Brian of Dallas; brothers, Buddy and wife Siegrid Beauvais of Bryan, Bob and wife Kim of Lincoln, N.M.; Teresa and husband Allen Browning of Abilene, and Betsy Callaway of Midland. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews as well as his many cousins from Oklahoma.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Hanna, David Hanna, Bruce Winston, Brent Winston and Allen Browning.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his local charity efforts with the Big Brothers Big Sisters and United Way of Midland in Bill's name. He will continue to be loved, remembered and missed.

Clifton A. Tillery

Clifton A. Tillery, 44, of Lubbock passed away October 4, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center. Graveside services will take place 2 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Clifton graduated from Lubbock High School with honors and attended Texas Tech University. He received many awards for his academic and artistic achievements. Clifton touched many lives with his compassion, love for life, and his strong faith in God. Clifton was born October 17, 1963 in Lubbock to parent Beth Brown of Lubbock.

Survivors include Beth Brown of Lubbock; a brother, Craig Tillery of Lubbock; and two sisters, Kirsiti Tillery of Lubbock and Kimberly Vallas of Arlington. Survivors also include nieces, Anna, Sarah, Amy, and Hannah; nephew, Aristotle; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. We will miss him greatly.

Thomas Richard Smauley

Funeral Services for Thomas Richard Smauley, 65, of Lubbock are pending with Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Interment will be in the East Mound Cemetery in Matador. He passed away October 3, 2008 in Guymon, Okla. Thomas was born July 30, 1943 in Matador to Clarence C. Shorty' Smauley and Margie Cavitt Smauley. He was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church in Lubbock. Mr. Smauley was a truck driver and had worked for Merchants, McCory, U.S.F. Logistics, and for Wal-Mart for five years. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Judy Phillips on December 23, 1977 in Childress. Thomas loved his family very much.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Smauley of Lubbock; one son, Keith Henderson and wife Cindy of Lubbock; one daughter, Christi James and husband Wally of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Keri and Kaitlyn Henderson, and Ashley Brown and husband Justin; one great-grandson, Braxton Brown; brothers, Gregory Smauley and wife Inga of Ramsey, N.J.; Robin Smauley and wife Chris of Michigan; and cousin, Ed D. Smith and wife Pat of Matador.

Shirley Jean Powell

Shirley Jean Powell surrendered this life Oct. 3, 2008. Acknowledging God's greatest gift, she began her glorious life in heaven forever, through Jesus, who paid her price for salvation. Her legacy of love for family and friends remains this side of heaven's gate for all who knew her. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ," her life has said through her demeanor and loving presence, always accompanied by an infectious smile.

Left alone at this station of life include her husband of 54 years, Raymond; a brother, Jerry and wife Charlotte; three children, Danny and wife Cindy, Jan and husband Steve, and Judy and husband Charles; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends, all mourn the loss of her presence - but rejoice at the fullness of her life and the blessings of her legacy. She was happy, encouraging, loving, lovable...a living mentor to all her children.

For over two decades, Shirley was office manager for Christopher Anderson, DDS, and prior to that, the Secretary to the Cashier of Security National Bank. She was a member of Monterey Baptist Church, and a veteran teacher of children's Sunday school.

Services will be under the direction of White Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway. A time of visits with friends and relatives will be 6:30 - 8 p.m. Monday, October 6 at White's. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 7 in the sanctuary of Monterey Baptist Church, 3601 50th Street. The family suggests memorials to the Monterey Baptist Church building fund in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Wanda Berry

Wanda Berry, 81, of San Antonio and formerly of Lubbock passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in San Antonio.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Eddie Marcum officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Wanda was born on Nov. 26, 1926, to Frank and Roxie (Brooks) Shaw in Slide. She married Kenneth Berry on Aug. 23, 1943, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1970.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Shelley Meeks and husband Billy of San Antonio; a granddaughter, Shaye McWhorter; and a grandson, Berry McWhorter.

Zack Wayne Hill

Services for Zack Wayne Hill, 47, of Lubbock are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday after 1 p.m.

Zack was born July 3, 1961, in Lubbock to Jerry and Kay Hill. He grew up in Gonzales as well as Olin, Iowa, were he went to college.

Survivors include wife Michelle of Lubbock; son, Zackariah D. Hill of Florida; stepdaughters, Camille of Lubbock and Cassidy McCamey of Colorado; grandchildren, Cameron, Reilly Bradyn, Devin; and his best friend, Sammy .Zack will also be missed by sisters, Becky Thompson and husband Kevin of Texarkana, Cindy Criswell and husband Randy of Smyer; and mother, Kay Altman and husband Bobby of Smyer.
