ODESSA -- Margaret E. Deer, 72, of Odessa, an office manager and bookkeeper, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Memorial Hospital & Medical Center in Midland.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Washington, D.C., and was a Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Revetta Deer of Gatesville, Donna Thomas of Littleton, Colo., and Marcella McKinney of Odessa; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gerald Slaybaugh
SAN ANTONIO -- Gerald "Terry" Slaybaugh, 46, of Fort Davis, an employee of Big Bend National Park, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, in Big Bend National Park.
Military graveside services will be at 2:15 p.m. Friday at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Lima, Ohio, and was an Army veteran.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Diane Slaybaugh of Fort Davis; stepson, Duane Barton of Covington, Wash.; stepdaughter, Samantha Retzlaff of Temple; parents, Douglas and Patsy Slaybaugh of Copperas Cove; brothers, Douglas T. Slaybaugh II of Witchita Falls and Thad Slaybaugh of Temple; sisters, Nola McDowell of Commerce, Denise Rankin and Dawn Lyons, both of Copperas Cove, Rhonda Michael of Harker Heights and Soine Fisher of San Antonio.

Merced Sotelo
MARFA -- Merced Salcido Sotelo, 65, of Marfa, a maintenance supervisor, died Monday, June 21, 1999, in an El Paso hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Merced cemetery. Arragements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Marfa and was a lifelong resident of Marfa. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Sister, Catarina S. Rivera of Marfa; brothers, Daniel S. Sotelo and Luis S. Sotelo, both of El Paso, and David S. Sotelo of Los Angeles.

Jose Pineda
ODESSA -- Jose Pineda, 65, of Odessa died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Dorothy Blieden

BEAUMONT -- Dorothy Nesmith Blieden, 77, of Beaumont died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Schlesinger’s Geriatric Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Broussard’s Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. James Killen officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Arrangements by Broussard’s Mortuary. She was a lifelong resident of Beaumont.

Survivors: Son, David Marcus Blieden of Beaumont; daughter, Valry Blieden Tryer of Midland; brother, Stanley David Nesmith of Waco; sister, Frances McGrew of Las Cruces, N.M.; and three grandchildren.

Gillie Jones

ODESSA -- Gillie Flower "Jill" Jones, 87, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Dobbs Valley cemetery in Palo Pinto County. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Palo Pinto County and moved to Odessa in 1944. She was Baptist.

Survivors: Daughter, Imogene Phyllis Holt of Cross Junction, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Royce Jones

SAN ANGELO -- Royce Edwin Jones, 26, of San Angelo, agricultural writer for the San Angelo Standard-Times, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Conner officiating. Burial will be at Belvedere cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home.

He was born in Odessa.

Survivors: Wife, Amber Diane Jones of San Angelo; parents, Robert E. and Rosie Jones of Odessa; brother, Raymon Jones of Odessa; and grandmother, Neoma H. Jones of Odessa.

Fidel Salazar

FORT STOCKTON -- Fidel G. Salazar, 62, of Fort Stockton, a farm worker, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Fort Stockton.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Garcia officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Fort Stockton and was a lifelong resident. He was Catholic.

Survivors: Wife, Louise Salazar of Fort Stockton; sons, Abel Salazar of Arlington, Fidel Salazar Jr. and Victor Salazar, both of Fort Stockton; daughters, Delia Rodriguez, Angie Salazar, Vicki Miller, Rosie Ramos and Rachel Huerta, all of Fort Stockton; brother, Abel Salazar of Fort Stockton; and 17 grandchildren.

James Gonzales

ANDREWS -- James Gonzales, 38, of Andrews died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at his residence.

Services are pending with McNett Funeral Home.

MONAHANS -- A.K. Blain, 64, of Monahans, a retired mechanic, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Monahans.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial Cemtery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.
He was born in Brinkman, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Monahans. He was Baptist.
Survivors: Wife, Margaret Blain of Monahans; father, Rufus Blain of Mangum, Okla.; sons, David Blain of Monahans, Steven Blain of Venezuela, Glenn Blain of Midland; sisters, Mary Watkins of Mangum, Okla., Carol McMaster of Gettysburg, Pa., Helen Aebischer of Mangum, Okla., Monia Blanscet of Reyden, Okla.; brothers, Crile Blain of Granite, Okla., Wylie Blain, Jimmy Blain and Richard Mac Blain, all of Mangum, Okla., Bufford Blain of Lonewolf, Okla., Kirk Blain of Rosevelt, Okla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

ODESSA -- Marion Clyde Buford, 91, of Odessa, a retired operator for El Paso Natural Gas Company, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at New Horizon Nursing Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Hamilton and moved to Odessa in 1962 from Midland. He was Methodist.
Survivors: Son, Corky Buford of Kingsland; daughter, Christelle Henderson of Odessa; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Tom Cooper
ANDREWS -- Tom Wilson Cooper, 93, of Andrews, a retired employee of Exxon Oil Company, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Retirement and Nursing Center in Austin.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Kello officiating. Burial will be at Andrews Old cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.
He was born in Roby and moved to Andrews in 1948. He was Baptist.
SURV IVORS: Wife, Nell Cooper of Andrews; son, Gary M. Cooper of Austin; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Cecil McClatchy
MIDLAND -- Cecil V. McClatchy, 90, of Midland died Sunday in a Midland Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.
He was born in Trickum.
Survivors: Daughter, Mary Beth Barton of Midland; sister, Grace Newman of San Angelo; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
