"Little Jimmy" left home and struck out on his own when he was 14 years old, he spent the next several years working at odd jobs and traveling around the country. He probably would have kept on going when he ended up in Marfa, but he met Emogene Chancey and he chased her until she caught him. They married and established a home in Marfa and started their family.

He at one time had an International Harvester and Pontiac dealership there. After several years in Marfa, they moved their growing family to Odessa where he owned and operated Ace Equipment Co. for several years. All of their children attended school in Odessa. After the children left home Jim, Emogene and son, Terry moved to Del Rio. They had a farm on the Rio Grande and also started and ran Broncho Truck & Equipment until April of 1998 when they moved back to Odessa for health reasons.

He would buy and sell anything and those who traded with him knew he would drive a hard bargain, but he was fair and honest. He was still trying to put deals together until the day he died.

Known affectionately as "Pa Jim" to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always had a twinkle in his eye and quick wit and sense of humor that kept everyone around him in stitches. Every evening around 5 p.m., he would start hollering "Is anybody going to feed us around here?" He will be missed very much.
