Jerry Harkins

LEVELLAND — Jerry Wayne Harkins, 42, of Odessa, an instrument fitter, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in Odessa.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at the city of Levelland cemetery with the Rev. Van Earl Hughes officiating. Arrangements by Geo C. Price Funeral Directors.

He was born in Denver City and moved to Odessa from Fort Worth in 1980. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Son, Jerry Wayne Harkins of Fort Worth; daughter, Mandy Molina of Fort Worth; parents, D.W. and Laura Harkins of Hale Center; brothers, Dee Harkins of Odessa and Cody Harkins of Midland; and two grandchildren.

Homer High

THORNTON, Colo. — Homer N. High, 77, of Commerce City, Colo., a retired truck driver, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colo.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Highland Mortuary with Ron Kinney officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Gaines County cemetery in Seagraves. Arrangements by Highland Mortuary.

He was born in Seymour.

SURVIVORS: Son, Richard Hadaway of Houston; sisters, Peggy Bertron of Longmont, Colo., Juanita Tereserek of Turon, Kans., and Emajon Mayfield of Odessa; and brothers, James High and Dan High, both of Odessa.

O.P. Mallone

TEMPLE — O.P. "Buddy" Malone, 87, of Lake Brownwood, retired owner of Mallone’s Pumping Service, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple.

No services are scheduled.

He was born in Brown County and had been a resident of Andrews. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Son, L.P. "Buddy" Mallone of Lake Brownwood; brothers, Oren Mallone of Lake Brownwood and John Mallone Jr. of Brownwood; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

Daniel Sandoval

PECOS — Daniel Palma Sandoval, 64, of Pecos, a retired maintenance employee for Reeves County, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital in Pecos.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at his residence. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.

He was born in Vado De Piedra, Mexico. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Pascuala Sandoval of Pecos; daughters, Rosa Mesta, Lorena Munoz, Monica Orosco, Michelle Sandoval and Martina Samaguey, all of Pecos, Adelita Gonzales of Monahans and Malisa Molinar of Bledsoe; sons, Daniel Sandoval Jr., Victor Sandoval, Jacob Sandoval and Jesus Sandoval, all of Pecos, Hugo Sandoval of Barstow, Benito Sandoval of Kermit and Hugo Zubiate of Mexico; brothers, Marcos Sandoval and Federico Sandoval, both of Lovington, N.M., Benigno Sandoval of Andrews and Gonzalo Sandoval of Pecos; sisters, Evangelina Sotelo and Hermila Carrasco, both of Pecos; and 29 grandchildren.

Pete Sarabia

FORT STOCKTON — Pete Fuentes Sarabia, 71, of Fort Stockton, a retired foodservice employee, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Fort Stockton Nursing Center.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Garcia officiating. Burial will be at East Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Sanderson. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sisters, Angelita Diaz and Anita Leyva, both of Fort Stockton; and brothers, Acencion Sarabia of Carlsbad, N.M., Santana Sarabia and Arturo Sarabia, both of Fort Stockton.

Lela Schneider

PECOS — Lela Ivy Schneider, 94, of Pecos, a retired salesperson, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Pecos Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mount Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.

She was born in Anadarko, Okla., and had been a resident of Pecos since 1928. She was a member of the Christian Church.

SURVIVORS: Stepson, Woody Ivy of Pecos; four grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Clayton Smith

IRAAN — Clayton Smith, 73, of Iraan, owner of Bear Canyon Ranch, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Desert View Manor Nursing Home in Crane.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joel Barrett officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Chapel.

He was born in San Antonio and had been a longtime resident of Iraan. He was a Marines veteran of World War II. He was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Joyce Smith of Iraan; sons, Gary Smith of Magnolia and Craig Smith of Westchester, Colo.; sister, Jean Alexander of Arkadelphia, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

Ignacio Tarango

PECOS — Ignacio Tarango, 77, of Pecos, a retired laborer, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his residence.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.

He was born in Coyame, Mexico, and had been a resident of Pecos since 1985. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Otilia Tarango of Pecos; son, Guillermo Tarango of Midland; daughters, Rosario T. Ramirez, Martha Mendoza, Manuela Tarango and Maria Salgado, all of Pecos, and Cecilia T. Aguirre of Presidio; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mattie Walker

ODESSA — Mattie Sue Walker, 90, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.

Arrangements are pending with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

James LaRoque McKelvy

ODESSA — James LaRoque McKelvy, 21, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at his residence. He was born March 11, 1978, in Andrews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, 401 N. Lee Ave., with the Rev. Donny Williams officiating.

James was a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Permian High School in 1996. While at Permian, James was very active in speech and debate and also in youth government, serving as senator and speaker. He was very excited to be honored at a luncheon by the mayor of Odessa and Gov. George W. Bush for his efforts in youth government. He attended Odessa College and was to attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

He loved music, especially the Beatles, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen and Merle Haggard, and he loved to play golf. James was a very classy young man with a very quick wit. He had many longtime friends that meant the world to him. He loved his family, friends and especially his grandparents. James had very high standards for himself and others.

James is survived by his parents, Beckye and Keith McKelvy of Odessa; grandparents, Pat and Hubert McKelvy of Brackettville, Joyce Stacey of Baton Rouge, La., and Ruby and Jim LaRoque; three sisters and their husbands, Kelly and Stacy Mayfield of Giddings, Kassy and Justin Behrens of Giddings and Summer Barnes of Odessa; two brothers, Dustin McKelvy of Tulsa, Okla., and Brian and wife, Misty Holloway of Odessa; two nephews, Hunter Mayfield and Justin Holloway; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Justin Johns, Kirk Plynell, Marcus Pennington, Sammy Gonzales, Ben Dixon and Justin Anderson.

His many friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
