Rocky Jack Clark
CLEVELAND, Okla. — Rocky Jack Clark was born March 6, 1958, in Hobbs, N.M. He was the son of Jackie Lee and Clara Zoe Hurt Clark. Rocky moved with his family at an early age to Odessa where he attended all 12 years of school. Rocky graduated from Permian High School in 1976. While in high school, Rocky was a member of the National Honor Society and served as president of the organization during his senior year. Additionally, he was active in varsity track and was the Texas Class 5A runner-up in cross-country his senior year. Rocky was also an Eagle Scout.
Upon graduation, Rocky was awarded one of 66 academic scholarships given yearly by Phillips Petroleum Co. honoring scholastic achievement. He attended his freshman year at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City. He then participated in a two-year mission in Rapid City, S.D., including American Indian Reservations in North and South Dakota.
Upon completion of his mission, Rocky attended the Gemological Institute of America where he obtained certification as graduate gemologist. He was then employed for nearly 10 years as a gemologist for the American Jewelry Co. in Bakersfield, where he designed custom jewelry and also appraised and repaired jewelry. He had even obtained advanced training in platinum jewelry design.
In the early 1990s, Rocky decided on a career change when he applied and was accepted for California highway patrol training. While a cadet in training, Rocky was diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis and was forced into disability retirement. Rocky then moved to Cleveland, Okla., where he had resided with his parents.
Rocky was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed target shooting and was going to the Cleveland Police Target Range at the time of his death Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the age of 43 years, four months and 11 days. He was also an avid licensed falconer.
Rocky is survived by his parents, Jackie and Zoe Clark of the home; two sisters, Debra Lee Eckel of Garland and Ronda Renee Barnett of Lockhart; and a daughter, Rocksan Tai Clark of Las Vegas, Nev.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 20, 2001, at the Church of Christ Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cleveland with Jeff Sellers and Mike Southward officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.

Clay Edward Dillard
ABILENE — Clay Edward Dillard, 84, of Austin died Monday, July 16, 2001. Born in Buffalo Gap, Clay was the son of Benjamin Dewitt Dillard and Ora Mae Travis Dillard.
His parents preceded him in death, as did his wife, Alyce M. Dillard; a daughter, Neoma Jean; a brother, Frank Dillard; and a sister, Prescilla Hamblin.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Dillard served in the Pacific aboard the USS President Hayes. He later was employed in the construction industry.
Mr. Dillard is survived by his daughters, Carolyn F. Millner and husband Jack M. of Austin and Margaret Kay Graham and husband Howard Joe of Georgetown; his granddaughters, Daphne Cendejas, Deanna Graham and Donna Tabor; his great-grandsons, Logan Winn and A.J. Cendejas; his sister, Margaret Thompson of Abilene; and brothers, Dewitt Dillard and John Dillard, both of Highland, Calif. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 20, 2001, at the Abilene Municipal cemetery in Abilene with his nephew, Wesley Wellborn, officiating.

Madeline Day McNamara
KILGORE — Services for Madeline Day McNamara, 69, of Kilgore, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Sewell officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Grove cemetery in Troup, Texas. Mrs. McNamara passed away Wednesday afternoon July 18, 2001, at her home in Kilgore.
Mrs. McNamara was born on July 8, 1932, in Cherokee County, Texas, to her parents Jamerson and Onitta Faye Kelley. She had lived in Kilgore since 1981. Mrs. McNamara was a school nurse for the Sabine Independent School District. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. McNamara was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson.
Two sons Roy Eugene Day of Kilgore, Texas, and Michael Ray Day of Diana, Texas; two grandchildren Loren Amber Day and Jordan Erica Day, both of New Braunfels, Texas; two nieces; one nephew; and a host of other loving family and friends survive Mrs. McNamara.
She was preceded in death by two husbands Roy Eugene Day, her husband of 43 years who passed away in 1994 and Bill McNamara who passed away in 1996.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

William Joe Shaffer
ODESSA — William Joe Shaffer, 75, of Temple passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Chad Haynes officiating.
He was born March 30, 1926, in Sperry, Okla. He spent many years in Odessa where he retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1985 after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Betty Jean Shaffer. He married Dixie Evans in Zapata in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Evans Shaffer of Temple; three sons, Charles Shaffer and wife Marsha of Goldsmith, William Shaffer and wife Mary Jo of Roswell, N.M., and Ray Shaffer and wife Kay of Ozona; a daughter, Julie Blaylock and husband Toren of Jonestown; a sister, Shirley Harris and husband Marshall of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Shaffer of Owasso, Okla.; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Richard, Angel, Joe, Amanda, Tom, Dustin, Stephen, Jared, William, Matthew and Andrew; and seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Zachary, Esther, Luke, Mark, Austin and Kyle.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 6801 Sanger, Waco, Texas, 76799.

Francisco Armando Minjarez
ODESSA — Francisco Armando Minjarez, 58 years of age, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Home Hospice House.
He was born Oct. 4, 1942, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Cipriano and Guillerma Minjarez. He married Maria Elena Segovia in 1979 in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cipriano and Guillerma Minjarez, and a grandchild, Aron Ulate.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Elena Minjarez of Odessa; two sons, Francisco Minjarez and wife Maria of Odessa and Jose Manuel Hernandez of Odessa; seven daughters, Alma Salgado and husband Marion Jr. of Odessa, Maria de Jesus Minjarez of Odessa, Carol Minjarez and husband Joe Patino of Odessa, Maribel Ulate and husband Arturo of Odessa, Nina Rodriguez and husband Frank of Odessa, Magaly Segovia of Odessa and Adriana Vargas and husband Juan of Odessa; three brothers, Rodolpho Minjarez of Hamlin, Adan Minjarez of Pecos and Jesus Minjarez of Los Angeles; six sisters, Maria Rodriguez of Ojinaga, Josephina Hernandez of Odessa, Aurora Minjarez of El Paso, Alicia Estrada of Odessa, Socorro Minjarez of Sacramento, Calif., and Olga Sotelo of Odessa; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be his brothers, sons-in-law and nephews, Moises Hernandez, Abel Melchor, Fausto Sotelo Jr. and Alfonso Melchor.

Bobby Fisher
HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Bobby Creed Fisher, of Vestavia Hills, died Friday, July 27, 2001. He was a native of Odessa, Texas, and made his home in Alabama for the past 15 years.
Mr. Fisher was a graduate of Texas Tech University where he attended on a football scholarship and graduated in Industrial Engineering. He attended graduate schools at the University of Tennessee in quality engineering, and Samford University in environmental management.
He was employed at ABC Coke as Supervisor of Engineering, at Meadowcraft Industries as Director of Warehousing and Transportation and for the past five years was at Sloss Industries as Director of Environmental Affairs, Slag Wool Division. He was a certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
Mr. Fisher was a member of the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mona Hurlbert Fisher; his stepson, Lane Hurlbert Carter; by a son, Brian Fisher of Longview, Texas; by his mother, Bobbie Fisher; sisters, Donna Warner and Sue Reeves; a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Kathy Fisher, all of Odessa; and a sister, Terry Sue Stelly of Port Barre, La.
Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Ala., and officiated by Gary Furr, Th.D, Minister of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Valley Chapel on Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m., with burial at Elmwood cemetery following.

Ara Lea Colbert
ODESSA — Ara Lea Colbert, 70, of Odessa passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in San Angelo.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. today, Aug. 9, 2001, at Central Baptist Church, 1416 N. Texas Ave., with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.
She was born April 17, 1931, in Shawnee, Okla. She married Ray Colbert in 1968. She resided in Las Vegas for 16 years until she came to Odessa in 1987 to live with and care for her mother.
She was a retired housekeeper and nurse and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Dallas.
Mrs. Colbert was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Townson; stepfather, Harry Boucher; and Lala.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Mallory; granddaughter, Tara Lea Ciapponi; mother, Clara Boucher; sister, Bobbe Harrold; brother, Charles Boucher and wife Barbara, all of Odessa; sisters, Carolyn Bates and husband T.J. of Jackson, Miss., and Barbara Nelson of Fullerton, Calif.; uncle, Otto Loessin of Shawnee, Okla.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She will be greatly missed by all.

Maldene Branch Heard
ODESSA — Maldene Branch Heard, age 84, of Odessa died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her residence. She was born April 29, 1917, as the eldest child to Myrtle and George Branch in Abilene.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, July 31, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Private burial will be held at a later date.
Maldene Branch Heard was a devoted wife, mother and Christian and a staunch defender of what was right and good. Mrs. Heard was married for 60 years to Charles Parks Heard, had two daughters, faithfully attended Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ and was the most loyal of friends. She graduated magna cum laude from Abilene Christian University and taught school in Goree for two years before her marriage.
Mrs. Heard loved her family, traveling, reading and teaching first-graders how to read when she was age 52 to 72. During those years, she was selected as ECISD Teacher of the Year and was a lifetime member of the Odessa Downtown Lioness Club. Her life was the epitome of courage, grace and perseverance.
Maldene Heard is survived by her husband, Charles Heard of Odessa; daughters, Sidney Heard and Jo A. Heard of Odessa, and Bullett, the cat; a sister, Mrs. Ross Finley of Irving; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Patsy Branch of Abilene; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Daniel O’Hearn, Angie Musick, the great staff at Odessa Internal Medicine and Home Hospice of Odessa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Home Hospice, Odessa Christian School, Texas Lions Camp or the charity of your choice.

Gerald Travis Donaway
CISCO — Gerald Travis Donaway, 57, of San Angelo passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001, at his residence.
Gerald was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Cisco to Joe and Era Donaway. He married Mary Tonne Feb. 4, 1966, in Cisco.
He worked for Chevron in Crane for 20 years, retiring in 1994. He then worked for R&H Well Service until 1998. Gerald was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Cisco Masonic Lodge and the Fellowship Lodge of Odessa.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Mary of San Angelo; a daughter, Carolyn of Aspen, Colo.; a son, Shannon of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Boyce Donaway of Cisco; and his mother-in-law, Lina Tonne of Cisco.
Masonic graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Dothan cemetery in Cisco. Arrangements are by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Home in Cisco.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
