Jimmy Dale McKelvain
MORAN — Jimmy Dale McKelvain, age 56, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 6, 1945, in Breckenridge.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 31, 2001, at First Baptist Church in Moran. Interment will follow at the Moran cemetery.
Jimmy attended Moran public schools, graduating from Moran High School. He attended Cisco Junior College, then transferred to North Texas State and graduated with a degree in business. He worked his way through school as a fireman living at the fire station. He flew about 15 years in the Odessa-Midland area for a number of private companies. He moved to Houston in 1986 to work for Continental Airlines, where he was currently employed as a co-pilot. He grew up in First Baptist Church but later transferred his membership to Moran Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John R. McKelvain, and his father, R.K. McKelvain.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred McKelvain, 97, of Andrews; sisters, Evelyn Criner of Andrews, Lela Mathis of San Angelo and Berlin Gavitt of Odessa; brothers, Kenneth McKelvain of Abilene and Harold McKelvain of Odessa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Juanita Smith
ODESSA — Juanita Smith, 75, of Odessa passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her residence. She was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Seminole. She married Thomas Charles Smith March 14, 1947, in Midland. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith moved to Odessa in 1945 from Denver City. She was a nurse and retired from Medical Center Hospital and then worked for MHMR for several years. She was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry D. Smith of Rising Star and Thomas Wayne Smith of Odessa; brother, Raymond Scarbrough of Andrews; sisters, Jewell Mathers of Denver City and June Veatch of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Bratcher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Bobbie Wayne Miller
ODESSA — Bobbie Wayne Miller, 43 years of age, was called by our Lord Sunday, July 29, 2001.
He was a native of Odessa, attended Permian High School and obtained his associate’s degree of science at Odessa College. Bobbie spent his life helping people to live longer and healthier lives. He was the owner of Wanda’s Health Food Store in Odessa and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Bobbie’s passion was motorcycles, animals and most of all, taking road trips with his lovely wife, daughter and motorcycle buddies. Bobbie was a very caring and giving person. He never met a stranger and was willing to extend a helping hand to anyone.
Bobbie was preceded in death by his father, Floyd W. Miller of Midland in November 1993, and his brother, Michael Miller in February 2001.
Bobbie leaves behind his loving spouse, Linda S. Moore-Miller of Odessa with whom he spent the best two years of his life. Bobbie’s creative and talented daughter, Brittany Miller, the light of his life, will miss her father dearly. Other survivors include his mother, Wanda Joyce Miller of Midland, and his brother, Ronnie W. Miller of San Jose, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord located on Grandview Avenue and will be officiated by Pastor James Otterness. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Lynn Roquemore
ODESSA — Ruth Lynn Roquemore, 85, of Odessa passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Weatherford.
Mrs. Roquemore was the owner of H&R Enterprises Inc. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Friendship Chapter No. 1008 and a charter member of Odessa Ladies Oriental Shrine Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.W. Roquemore; and brother, Forrest Landon Howard.
She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, N.M. Jr. Roquemore and Charlotte Roquemore of Weatherford; nieces, Barbara Sharp and Norma Hamilton, both of Odessa, and Tommie Coalson of Garner; nephews, Bill Jordan of Weatherford, Steve Roquemore of Dallas and Ray Roquemore of Odessa; great-niece, Margaret Whitehead of Odessa; and numerous other great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 31, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Mary Justeen Loika
ODESSA — On Thursday, July 12, 2001, with family and friends at her side, Mary Justeen Loika went home to be with the Lord after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Justeen was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend. Those who were blessed to know her, knew her as thoughtful, caring and always encouraging. Now those loved ones again are encouraged knowing Justeen is resting in peace and comfort in the arms of our Savior. God has received a most precious soul.
“The Lord saw that she was getting tired. A cure on Earth was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered, ‘Justeen, come here with me.’ With tearful eyes we saw her go, and softly fade away, and though we loved her dearly, all we could do was pray. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.”
Justeen was born April 10, 1948, in San Angelo to Maxwell N. Robinson and Mary Kathrine Hadley. On July 5, 1968, she became the wife of James “Jim” Loika in Grape Creek. Justeen moved to Odessa in November 1969, where her husband was stationed as a Texas state trooper. Odessa remained their home for over 30 years, 10 of which she was employed by H&R Block, four as office manager.
Justeen’s death was preceded by her father, Max Robinson Sr., and her nephew, Coy Robinson.
Justeen is survived by her husband, Jim Loika; mother, Mary Kathrine Hadley; brothers, Max, Ray, Charles and many nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers include Jeff Robinson, Aaron Loika, Dennis Riley, Jim Crawford, Lynn Dudney, Skip Hunt and honorary, O.A. “Bob” Brookshire.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today, July 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

W.N. ‘Newt’ Bains
TALPA — W.N. “Newt” Bains died peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2001, in Midland. His family is grateful for the professional and compassionate care provided by Dr. Vogel, Dr. Watkins, Dr. McKenna, the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Midland and Nurses Unlimited.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at Talpa cemetery in Talpa with Pastor Stan Whitesof Rankin officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Bains was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Oplin in Callahan County. He married Marie White in Winters on Oct. 26, 1940. They resided in Talpa from 1940 to 1995. They resided at Christian Village in San Angelo until December 1998, at which time they moved to Midland.
Newt was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved God and his deep faith was an inspiration to his family. He enjoyed cooking and making treats for his family and friends, especially for his great-grandchildren. Newt loved people and took time to visit with everyone he met. Newt worked for Mabee Oil and ranched in Talpa and was a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Talpa.
Newt is survived by his wife, Marie Bains of Midland; his daughter, Ludie Rudolph and husband Wayne of Fort Worth; his son, Roger Bains and wife Karen of Rankin; his grandson, Bradley Bains and wife Cheryl of Midland; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brensen Bains; sister, Dorothy Howerton of Hico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Midland or the donor’s favorite charity.

Judy Harrington “Deedo” Pugh
ODESSA — Judy Pugh, 59, of Odessa, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Garden of Memories with Rev. Kerry Peacock officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home.
She was born in San Antonio.
SURVIVORS: Husband, J.B. Pugh of Odessa; son, Coby Jay Pugh of Odessa; daughter, Lisa Michelle Pugh of Odessa; and three grandchildren.

‘Peggy’ Lennie Mae Cook
ODESSA — “Peggy” Lennie Mae Cook, 78, quietly passed from this life and went home to be with her Lord Aug. 11, 2001. She was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Douglas and married Joseph Louis Cook Nov. 5, 1939, in Sebastian.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Tanglewood Church of Christ with Joe Cross and Roy Smalling officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Peggy was a dedicated Christian wife and mother who loved bringing people to Christ. In her early years, Peggy worked as a cashier for the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Beaumont. She loved helping others in need. Peggy was an avid gardener who enjoyed raising vegetables and fruit and then canning it or giving it away to others. Even in the last years of her life, she planted trees and a garden. Peggy had friends all over the state of Texas and the United States. Her door was always open not only to family and friends, but to anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Betty Rogers; her loving husband and best friend, Joseph Louis Cook; three brothers; and a sister.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her four children, Ernest Cook and his wife Sue of Beaumont, Joe L. Cook and his wife Marsha of Odessa, Dwight Cook and his wife Debbie of Odessa and Judy Day and her husband Lynn of Austin; her sister, Dorothy Summa and her husband David of Harlingen; her brother, Edgar Rogers and his wife Ethel of Jasper; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other extended family.
Active pallbearers were Todd Cook, Lee Cook, Landon Cook, Peter Cook, Michael Mancias and Eric Steffens. Honorary pallbearers were Stan Weber, Don Miller and Bill Bowden.
May her religious beliefs and good deeds remain in our lives always.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Odessa Christian School, Tanglewood Church of Christ or Victory Tree Children’s Home c/o Tanglewood Church of Christ.

Bill J. Hadden
MIDLAND — Bill J. Hadden died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.
A visitation has been set from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Hopkins officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Bill J. Hadden was born June 18, 1931, in Duchesne, Utah, to William J. and Janie Hadden. He served in the United States Armed Forces as a paratrooper instructor in the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Benning, Ga. After his discharge from the Armed Forces, Bill worked for Mountain Bell Telephone in Wyoming and later for Southwestern Bell in Arizona. An avid horseman, Bill owned and operated Buckskin Bo’s Livery Stables in Glen Haven, Colo.
After obtaining his master’s electrician’s license, he became an electrical contractor, owning Big T Electric in Estes Park, Colo. In January 1975, he went to work for Parker Drilling Co. in the Rocky Mountain and Alaskan Divisions before transferring to ParTec in 1992. Bill traveled the world over designing electrical systems for SCR drilling rigs. After his retirement in 1996, he became an electrical consultant for Parker Drilling and ParTec once again, traveling to foreign countries until failing health ended his travels in 1999. Bill, or “Mr. Bill, ” as he was called by all who knew him, was highly respected in the drilling industry the world over. He leaves behind a wide circle of friends, not only because of his work, but also because of the sport that he loved. “Mr. Bill” had been an avid bowler for years, bowling in leagues and tournaments across the U.S. He was loved and will be missed by many!
With cherished memories, he is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Hadden of Midland; his daughter, Kristie Jo Hadden of Bentonville, Ark.; his sons, Wm. Scott Hedges and Brenda of Mesa, Ariz., Robert E. Hedges and his wife Debby of Boulder City, Nev., and Thomas A. Hedges and his wife Katya of Anchorage, Alaska; his five grandchildren, Ian, Tia, Seth, Emily and Juan; his sister, Marie Lugenbeel of Duchesne, Utah; his brothers, Rex Hadden and his wife Jennie of St. George, Utah, and Bernard Hadden and his wife Norma of Duchesne, Utah; many nieces and nephews; and his little canine companion, Cricket.
