ODESSA - Don Riley, 67, of Odessa, a business owner, died Friday, July 5, 2002, in Odessa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Emmett Barnard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Paint Rock.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Elizabeth Riley of Odessa; son, Bryan Riley of Odessa; brother, W.T. Riley of Odessa; sisters, Bobbie Fisher and Oma Bullard, both of Odessa and Ann Shields of Oklahoma; and four grandchildren.

Bianca Urias
PECOS - Bianca Urias, 9, of Del Valley died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Peaceful Gardens Funeral Home.
She was born in El Paso. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Father, Ezequiel Urias of Del Valley; mother, Mireya Urias of Del Valley; brothers, Eduardo Montes of Austin and Hector Urias of Austin; grandfather, Ezequiel Montes of Chihuahua, Mexico; and grandmothers, Julia Olivas of Pecos and Maria Nunez of Chihuahua, Mexico.

Emilio Armandez
MIDLAND - Emilio Armandez Jr., of Midland died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending with Ellis Funeral Home.

Joy Ellis Allen
ODESSA — Joy Ellis Allen, 71, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1930, to Charlie and Nala Ellis in Tahoka. Her parents preceded her in death.
Joy moved to Odessa in 1958 from Seminole. She worked in retail sales for numerous years and enjoyed crocheting, painting and reading. She also enjoyed tending her cockatiel, named “Bird.” Joy was of the Methodist faith.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, July 16, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Cleere officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Myers, Charlie Allen, Jeremy Allen, Jason Allen, Jason Waite and Rick New. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt New and Toby Eoff.
Survivors include her three sons, Jimmy Allen and wife Lydia of Fort Davis, Jackie Allen and wife Julie and Jerry Allen; a daughter, Karen Myers and husband Jeff, all of Odessa; brother, Keith Ellis and wife Susie of Abernathy; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Foundation.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Buster Gillean
ODESSA — Buster Virgel “Bud” Gillean, 88, of Odessa passed away Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Gillean was born Sept. 7, 1913, to Virgel and Thera Gillean in Mount Joy. He was a Baptist and worked for Gulf Oil for 36 years. He married Marie Hamilton on April 11, 1936, in Sweetwater.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Odessa; son, Max and wife Marylin Gillean of Lubbock; two daughters, Mickey Holley and husband Arnold of Canyon and Sonja Johnson of Odessa; two brothers, Cliff Gillean of Eolia, Mo., and Quentin Gillean and wife Lucille of Cooper; two sisters, Essie Gillean and Wanda Gillean, both of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 16, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Roscoe cemetery in Roscoe.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Elizardo ‘Chale’ Lujan Sr.
ODESSA — Elizardo S. Lujan Sr., 51 years of age, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1951, in Ojinaga, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cruz Imelda Lujan.
He is survived by his sons, Jaime E. Cervantes of Odessa, Ryan Lujan of Grand Junction, Colo., Eleud Lujan, Elizardo Lujan Jr. and Obed Lujan, all of Odessa; daughters, Hortencia C. Briones and Zaira Lujan, both of Odessa; brothers, Omar Lujan of Monahans, Oscar Lujan of Grand Junction, Colo., Octavio Lujan, Horacio Lujan and Onecimo Lujan, all of Ojinaga, Mexico, and Jose Lujan of Presidio; and sister, Olimpa Del Campo of Presidio.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, July 16, 2002, at Iglesia de Jesus de Nazareno in Ojinaga, Mexico. Burial will follow at Jardines de San Jose cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Ernest Shelton
ODESSA — Ernest Shelton, 94, of Glen Rose passed away Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Cherokee Rose Manor in Glen Rose. He was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Greenville. He married Pearl Annette Buschernon May 10, 1979, in Odessa.
Before his retirement at age 90, Mr. Shelton was the owner and operator of Shelton Music Co. in downtown Odessa for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of Belmont Baptist Church where he played the piano for children’s church for many many years. He loved to play the piano and organ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jamie Irene Crossley Shelton in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Shelton of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; daughters, Sheila Ramsey of Austin, Sherri Stanfield and husband Ron of Granbury and Shelline Shelton of Glen Rose; son, George Shelton and wife Kay of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother, Arthur Shelton of Odessa; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. G.A. Magee officiating.

Ann Pinnell ‘Penny’ Ramsey Thompson
ODESSA — Penny’s sweet spirit left this earth Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her residence in Houston, Texas. She was born July 28, 1938, in Andrews County, Texas, to E.L. and Billie Irwin Edmiston.
Penny is survived by her wonderful husband, Martin Thompson; daughter and husband, Jan and Carl Fitzhugh; son and wife, Eddie and Gisela Ramsey; stepson and wife, Steve and Janice Thompson; grandson and wife, Marty and Kara; granddaughter, Kelly; sister and husband, Lindsay and Clif Zant; brother and wife, Frank and Pat Edmiston; brother, Bill Edmiston; nieces, Kelly, Jennifer, Annalee, Marny and Patty; great-nephews and nieces, Zant, Hunter, Shelby, Cody and Justin; special aunt and cousin, Louise and Phil Irwin; and countless friends from around the world.
A memorial service celebrating her life is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas.
Penny delighted in sharing her heart, time and talents with her family, friends, church, clients and employees. She enjoyed traveling, was a gracious hostess and touched people all over the world with her love for life. Penny was a member of the Church of Christ with a sustaining faith and love for the Lord.
Penny’s career as an interior designer reflected her devotion to home and family. Her warm, fun loving and enthusiastic personality made her a natural for creating beautiful homes for her clients and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Amato, Dr. Kevin Slawin, Suzanne Breheny and the entire staff at Scott Urology Group for their dedication to Penny as they fought together so valiantly. A special thanks is also gratefully sent to all of the Angels on Main Sixth Floor Methodist Hospital in Houston who cared for her so lovingly this past year.
In lieu of flowers, Penny and her family request that memorials be made to the Amato Bladder Cancer Research Fund to continue her determination to defeat this disease, Baylor College of Medicine, 6160 Fannin, Suite 2100, Houston, Texas, 77030.
We will miss her laughter and sweet smile forever!

Leon Curtis Younger
ODESSA — Leon Curtis Younger, 85, of Odessa passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the Hospice House. He was born Jan. 8, 1917, in Oklahoma City.
He married the love of his life Mabel McClatchy on March 25, 1950. She preceded him in death May 31, 1997. Mabel and Leon were avid dog lovers. They treated them as if they were their children.
As a youngster, Leon worked as a horse wrangler on Galveston Island for one of his brothers. He later drove a truck for Younger Construction Co. in Snyder until 1963 when he formed L.C. Younger Construction in Odessa. He sold his company in 1987 and retired.
Leon attended New Mexico Military Institute and graduated in 1940. He went into the Army Oct. 15, 1941, and was honorably discharged Sept. 25, 1945. He attained the rank of captain and served two tours of duty in Siapan and Germany.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church, a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
He is survived by eight nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Miguel Chavez Sr.
BARSTOW — Miguel Chavez Sr., 68, of Odessa, a construction worker, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Barstow cemetery. Arrangements by Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.
He was born in Candelaria. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Dorothy Chavez of Odessa; son, Miguel Chavez Jr. of Pecos; daughters, Elsa Palomino of Pecos and Patricia Nunez of Odessa; brothers, Pete Chavez of Balmorhea, Francisco Chavez of Odessa, Ricardo Chavez of Big Spring, Chico Chavez of Artesia, N.M., and Abel Chavez of Pecos; sisters, Rosa Dominguez of Pecos and Petra Porras of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
