Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandson, with Roy Don Wooten officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. He was born in Fluvanna. SURVIVORS: Wife, Ozella Wilson of Comanche; sons, John Ray Wooten of Midland, Marvin Wooten of Odessa, Jack Wade Wooten and Glenn Wooten, both of Venus, and Edward Wooten and Dean Wooten, both of Midland; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Harry Nagel PECOS - Harry Nagel, 71, of Pecos, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2002, at his residence. Services are pending with Pecos Funeral Home. Steve Lambert ODESSA — Steve Lambert, 58, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002, in Fort Davis. He was born Sept. 1, 1943, in San Diego, Calif. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1967 with a bachelor of arts degree. He taught industrial arts in El Paso and returned to Odessa in 1974. He was co-owner of Stan’s House of Maple and later owned Lambert’s Furniture Gallery. He taught industrial arts at Permian High School and most recently was a teacher at Nimitz Junior High School. He was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse and director of security for the Permian Basin Fair. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Lambert of Hawley and Lois Lambert Utt of Hobbs, N.M. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Miller of Odessa; daughters, Lynn Lambert Gazzo of Covington, La., and Kimberly Holcomb of San Angelo; and son, Ryan Lee Lambert of Nacogdoches. He is also survived by his stepfather, George Utt of Hobbs, N.M.; sisters, Linda Martin of Odessa and Dolores McMakin of Grand Saline; two stepchildren, Jody Jones of Midland and Steven Miller of Houston; and grandchildren, Ashley Danielle Holcomb and Dalton Holcomb of San Angelo, Joey Gazzo of Covington, La., Brittany Jones of Midland and Jessica Miller of Houston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 3, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Dan Matthews ODESSA — Dan “D.M.” Matthews, 75, of Odessa passed away Monday, July 1, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Knox City to William and Hattie Matthews. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating. D.M. was a longtime resident of Odessa. He married Billie Allison on July 4, 1945, in Odessa. He worked a number of years as a master plumber for Permian Air Conditioning. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and archery. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. His mother, father and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Billie Matthews of Odessa; daughters, Linda Tuttel of Mesquite, Barbara “Babs” Benge and husband Phillip of Clayton, N.M., and Tammie White and husband Marty of Monahans; brother, W.E. “Bill” Matthews of Midland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials to Hospice House of Odessa. Services under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Bessie Taylor McCAMEY — Bessie Taylor, 91, of McCamey died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at the McCamey Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at the Bluffton cemetery in Llano County. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Mrs. Taylor was born June 19, 1911, in Lone Grove. She was a homemaker. She married Vaughn Taylor on Dec. 10, 1931, in Cherokee. She had lived in McCamey since 1996 and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn Taylor; a daughter, Ragene Benskin; and a grandson, Jimmy Benskin. She is survived by a sister, Lennie Jordan of Mineral Wells; a daughter, Patsy Lyckman and husband Granville of Austin; a son, George Taylor and wife Sylvia of McCamey; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Maudie Evelyn Antee ODESSA — Maudie Evelyn Antee went to be with her Lord on May 29, 2002. She passed away at Parks Methodist Retirement Home in Odessa, Texas. She was born on Dec. 14, 1918, in Caddo, Okla., to William Isaac and Effie Cox Flynn. She was known by all for her very loving and quiet spirit. She delighted in her family and lived a life of service to God and her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was also known for her delicious cooking and won a number of blue ribbons. Before she retired, she was employed at Monahans Memorial Hospital for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Phillip Antee. She is survived by her three daughters, Johnnie Marie Polly and husband, Hugh, Phyllis Turner, and Era Fay Vilander and husband Keith; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two sisters; Johnnie Addie Clara Mesa Grines of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ruth Adams of Stephenville, Texas. Sunset Memorial Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. A memorial will be held at a later date. Mickey Gonzales ODESSA — Mickey Gonzales, 47, of Odessa, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Runaway Bay, Texas. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. He was born Sept. 23, 1954, in Snyder to Gregorio Sr. and Julia Gonzales and worked as a fisherman in the oil industry. He married Linda McLeod on June 19, 1991, in Midland, Texas. He was a Baptist. He is survived by wife, Linda Gonzales of Odessa; father, Gregorio Gonzales Sr. of Snyder; mother-in-law, Frances McLeod of Odessa; son, Jack Ragan of Odessa; daughter, Jennifer Kinman and husband John of Odessa; brothers, Ruben Gonzales of Phoenix, Ariz., and Abe Gonzales and wife Judy of Odessa; sister, Vera Ubando and husband Danny of Snyder; three grandchildren, Kiefer Cole, Bryant Ragan and Kelsy Ragan, all of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Gonzales, grandparents, the Rev. Edwardo P. and Andrea Gonzales and several aunts and uncles. Mickey loved life and lived his life to the fullest with his wife and family. He always had a gentle, kind word for everyone that crossed his path. He was an avid fisherman, always waiting to catch that “big one.” He was a wonderful, loving, supportive husband and father. He loved all his children and enjoyed their visits. He worked for TMBR/Sharp Star Tool and G&L Tool. Mickey always was admired by his fellow workers and known as one who lended a helping hand. He loved his home and his two dogs Mollie and Shorty. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. Louise McClendon ODESSA — Louise McClendon passed away from this life at Medical Center Hospital and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 30, 2002. Louise was born in Edinburg, Texas on Aug. 21, 1933, and she was the first-born child of Ronal Kirkpatrick, M.D. and Della Mae Kirkpatrick. Her family moved to Abilene, Texas, in 1940 where she grew up with her brother, Ronnie Kirkpatrick and her sister, Addie Mae Kirkpatrick. Her father was an old style medical doctor who made house calls as a regular part of his practice and often accepted chickens and other farm animals as a fee from patients who could not afford to pay. Louise loved to help her father in treating patients in his office, which was connected to the family home, and she had many fond memories of those times she spent with her father. Louise married Bobby Wayne McClendon on Feb. 6, 1954, at 6 p.m. at the University Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas, by the Rev. Sterling L. Price. They soon started a family together, which they built on the foundation of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. While living in Abilene, Louise had three children, Ronald, Phil, and Judy, who were all delivered by her father, Dr. Kirkpatrick. The family moved to Odessa in 1958 when Louise’s husband obtained a job working as a lab chemist for the El Paso Products Company refinery south of Odessa. Louise had two more children, Bobby and Lee, after moving to Odessa, giving her a total of five children to love, cherish and raise. Louise also had a sixth child who was stillborn on Christmas day in 1960, whom she named Gary Paul, and she deeply grieved the loss of this child for the remainder of her life. The greatest success in Louise’s life was her love for Jesus and her love for her children. She guided and led each of her children to accept and trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior during the early years of their childhood. Ronald at age 10, Phil at age 9, Judy at age 9, Bobby at age 9 and Lee at age 7. She and her husband, Bob, started teaching their children about Jesus from the time they learned to talk. She and her husband dragged their children to Sunday school and church whether they wanted to go or not and forced them to watch Billy Graham on television. More importantly, she lived the example of Christ’s love in the home in front of her children in the ways that she loved, taught and nurtured them. For all of these things and more, we children will be eternally grateful to our precious Mom. Louise was a loving mother not only to her children but to all the kids who lived in the neighborhood of Spruce Street in Odessa. She allowed her children and their friends to use the front yard as a football field, the driveway as a basketball court and the back yard as a baseball field. As a result, she had to put up with trampled grass, broken windows, busted siding, and broken fence boards. However, she endured these pains with joy because the children were always more important to her than the way her house looked. The inside of Louise’s home was also a favorite gathering place for the neighborhood kids where they watched TV and played virtually every board game ever invented, from Monopoly to Risk. The home was always filled with the laughter and happiness of children, which was music to her ears. Louise faced tragedy in their life on June 3, 1973, when she lost her husband, Bob, who died of a heart attack. Her oldest son, Ronald, had just graduated from high school and the rest of her children were teen-agers at the time. Her life was profoundly affected by the absence of her husband. She had been a homemaker her entire life and she struggled greatly as she tried to fill the role of being both father and mother to her children. However, despite the hardships she faced and the mistakes she made in those rough years following her husband’s death, she always held steady to her faith in Jesus Christ. Louise was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at any time in her life and throughout her life, she boldly witnessed to others about the love and saving grace of her Lord Jesus Christ. We children love and admire her so much for this and could only hope to be as bold as she was in proclaiming and sharing our faith. We are going to miss her so much and it was so hard for our family to let her go to be with Jesus last Thursday as we gathered around her bed in ICU at the hospital. However, we know and believe that we will see her again in Heaven based on our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you Mom for teaching us about Jesus. Louise was survived by four of her children: Philip Randall McClendon of Arlington, Judy Marie Brem of Odessa, Bobby Charles McClendon of Denver, Colo., and Lee Byron McClendon of Odessa. She is survived by five grandchildren: Jackie Shawn Brem, Keary Wayne Brem, Trisha Kay Anderson, Tabatha Elaine McClendon, Bryant Lee McClendon, and one great-grandchild, Holden Kristopher Anderson. She is also survived by her brother, Ronal B. Kirkpatrick Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo. Louise was preceded in death by her oldest child, Ronald Wayne McClendon, her sister, Addie Mae Crayton, and her parents. Visitation time with the family will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Sherwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Don Edward Vick, Jr. ALAMAGORDO — Don Edward Vick, Jr., 58, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Alamogordo. Don was born Aug. 4, 1943, in Kingsville, Texas. He had been an oilfield welder over 25 years in Odessa, Texas. An avid lover of sports, he coached football, baseball and boxing in Odessa for over 33 years. He moved to Del Rio, Texas, in 1982 and in later years was the mascot for the Del Rio Rams football team. He had lived in Alamogordo since November 2001 and had recently accepted mascot for the Alamogordo Tigers football team for next season. Survivors include his wife, Ida “Bobbi” Vick of the familiy home; a daughter, Kim Tryon and her husband, Gary, of Alamogordo; three sons, Don Edward Vick III and his wife, Mitzi, of Alamogordo, Dale Vick and his companion, Vicki Ramsey, of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and David Vick and his wife, Bobbie, of Vilonia, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren, Wayne, Colette and Justin Courtney, Jayson Tryon, Jeremy and Kayla Vick, Cory, Amber and Nicole Sears, and Tracelynn and Lyla Vick; his mother, Pat Richardson of Gilmore, Texas; a sister, Kay Lynne Scott and her husband, Mark, of San Saba, Texas; two aunts; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, his dog, Honey Girl. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Edward Vick Sr.; and by his stepparents, Wanda Vick and Mack Richardson. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Hamilton-O’Dell Chapel in Alamogordo with Ron Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Monte Vista cemetery in Alamogordo. Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home, Alamogordo, N.M. Audrey Whitley MINEOLA — Audrey Whitley, 86, of Mineola, Texas, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Mineola. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Beaty Funeral Home, Inc. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Mineola with Dr. Mark Neeley officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola. Arrangements by Beaty Funeral Home, Inc. She was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Kilgore, Texas. She moved to Mineola from Winnsboro in 1974. Prior to moving to Winnsboro, she lived in Odessa for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mineola. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Odessa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.P. Whitley, and second husband Quitman Walters. She was also preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Birdsong and Mary Whitaker Birdsong; one brother, Horace Birdsong; and sister, Ruth Collins. She is survived by son, Clinton Whitley of Houston; stepsons, Lynn Walters of Buda, Texas, Dan Walters of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Randy Walters of Shore Acres, Texas; brothers, Carl Birdsong of Beaumont, Texas, and Bill Birdsong of Kirbyville, Texas; sisters, Hulan McLeod of Kirbyville, Texas, Dorothy Byerly of Jasper, Texas, Janelle Johnson of Jasper, Texas, Vonne Bush of Missouri, and Linda Kitchens of Kingsland, Ark. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Andra McConnell and Perry Whitley; one great grandchild, Gwen Elizabeth Whitley, and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and many loving friends. Pall bearers will be the Philathea Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church in Mineola. She loved and was loved by many. Please pray for this gentle soul.
