Ellen E. Keener

Ellen E. Keener, 93, of Fort Collins, passed away March 19, 2010.

Ellen was born on May 15, 1916 in Wellington, Texas to Nellie (Smulcher) and Austin O. Sweat. She graduated from Canyon High School and then attended West Texas Teachers College. On Oct. 16, 1939, Ellen was united in marriage to Howard Keener in Mineral Wells, Texas. They later moved to Littlefield where she was a member of the Littlefield Baptist Church. She worked for Ware's Department store as a buyer, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed farming with her husband. Ellen was known to her family and friends as an incredible cook. She also loved books, whether reading or listening to them. In 1999, Ellen moved to Fort Collins, CO.

Ellen is survived by her son, Milburn and wife Sandra Keener of Lubbock, Texas; daughter, Carol and husband Doug Kriewald of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Britt Keener and wife April of Richardson, Texas; Amy Keener of Dallas, Texas; Cindy Larson and husband Mike of Windsor, CO; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Littlefield Memorial Park, Littlefield, Texas.

Johnnie C. Cates

Johnnie C. Cates, age 92, of Floydada, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Floydada with Rev. Les Hall officiating.

Interment will follow at the Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Johnnie was born on June 17, 1917 in Paducah, Texas to John and Clara Cates. He married Mildred Burke on Nov. 18, 1939 in Lubbock. Johnnie was a farmer and enjoyed horseback riding.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.

He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Pufal and husband Jim of El Paso, Jan Lofton and husband Bob of Memphis, TN, Donna Clayton of Amarillo, TX, Denise Calahan of Odessa, TX; six grandchildren, Michele Lynn, Patrick Pufal, Stephanie Pufal, Chase Clayton, Brett Clayton, Cameron Calahan; one great-grandchild, Allison Pufal; one sister, Ann McCleskey of Bartlesville, OK; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Burke of Elm Springs, SD.

Memorials may be made in Johnnie's name to the First United Methodist Church or the Floydada Senior Citizens.

Juanita Self

Services for Juanita Self, 89, of San Marcus and formerly of Slaton and Lubbock will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 in Englunds Chapel with Clark Self, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Englewood cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Juanita was born July 18, 1920 in Boswell, Okla. She passed from this life Monday, June 29, 2009 in San Marcos.

She moved to Slaton in her youth and graduated from Slaton High School in 1938. Juanita married Levi Self on May 1, 1938 in Slaton. They were co-owners in the furniture and appliance store and auction businesses for many years. Levi preceded her in death on May 29, 2007 as has a son Stan Self on May 11, 1999. She was active with the Slaton Senior Citizens Center.

Her survivors include her son, Gerald Self of Austin; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

W.B. McMillan

W.B. McMillan, 87, of Lubbock passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010, in Lubbock.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Please join us in celebrating W.B.'s life by visiting his memorial at www.mem.com.

W.B. was born on May 21, 1922, to the late Willie David and Maude (Green) McMillan in Petersburg, Texas. In 1944 he married Elsie Franklin in Clovis. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2003. W.B. owned and operated his own accounting office in Earth from 1968 to 1990. He served as mayor of Earth and Buffalo Springs Lake. W.B. also served in the Army-Air Corps during WWII.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Larry McMillan and wife Kelly Jo of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Allen McMillan and wife Kayla of Lubbock and Amanda Gore and husband Marty of Lubbock; two great granddaughters, Ashlyn and Kenly McMillan of Lubbock; a brother, B.E. McMillan and wife Bennie of Lubbock; and a sister, Wynona McMillan of Kansas.

Julie Lollar

Graveside services for Julie Lollar, 55, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Elizabeth Abraham officiating.

Julie died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at her residence.

She was born in Gaines County on April 22, 1949, to Virginia C. Evans. She married David Lollar on April 22, 1966, in Lubbock, where they lived for several years before moving to Shallowater in 1973. Julie worked at Shallowater Pharmacy as a pharmacist's assistant and then at Circle S Foods. They lived in Shallowater for about 25 years before moving back to Lubbock.

A brother, Larry Evans, and her mother, Virginia Carol Evans, preceded her in death.

Those left to celebrate her death and her new life are David Lollar of Lubbock; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Ray Perryman and daughter-in-law, Cole and Angelia Lollar of Pollock; 4 beautiful grandchildren, Krystyn and Jon-Jon Perryman of Shallowater and Emily and Logan Lollar of Pollock; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Alice Evans of Lubbock, Marshall and Debbie Evans of Shallowater, and Norman and Pam Evans of Smyer; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, not to mention a whole bunch of friends.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 16800, Lubbock, TX 79490.

Estelle Longbotham Pierce

Services for Estelle Longbotham Pierce,75,of Snyder will be at 4 p.m. Friday,May 2,2003 at First Baptist Chapel with the Rev.Tony Wofford and Keith Hackfeld officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder.

She died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at her residence. She was born June 16, 1927 in Snyder.She married Charlie Longbotham in June 1947 in Tulia. He preceded her in death on May 15,1963. She later married Dr. Robert B. Pierce on February 6,1976 and he preceded her in death on August 22, 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of The Word is Life Church in Snyder. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Billy Jack Hill of Independence,Kan.; three sons,Keith Longbotham and his wife, Deborah of Hendersonville, Tenn .,Charlie Long-botham of Lubbock,and Joe Longbotham and his wife,Karen of Dallas; two sisters, Doris Alexander of Big Spring, and Charlene Jarrett of Quinlan; three step-daughters, Paula Lustre of Austin, Patti Tate of Liberty,and Pam McGee of Tomball,and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.,Friday at Bell-Cypert-Seale in Snyder. Friends are contributing to Odyssey Hospice, 1510 South Gregg, Big Spring, TX 79720 or The Word is Life Church, 312 Coliseum Drive, Snyder, TX 79549.

Michael Dale "Mike" Tilton

Michael Dale "Mike" Tilton, 47, of Lubbock and formerly of Spur, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Lubbock. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church in Spur, with Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Graveside rites will be 4:30 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.

Mike was born July 2, 1959, in Burlington, Iowa, to Larry Dale and Regina Truitt Tilton. He graduated from Caprock High School in 1977. He married Dana Sisson at Amarillo in 1990. He worked for Mason & Hanger as a nuclear weapon training specialist at PanTex for several years. Mike had many hobbies which included photography, riding motorcycles, bullriding, hang gliding, restoring Corvettes and old hot rods, hunting, playing guitar and riding jet skis. He was also a big fan of NASCAR and Texas Tech and Dallas Cowboy football.

Mike is survived by his wife, Dana of Spur; two sons, Thomas Tilton of Lubbock and Dakota Tilton of Spur; one daughter, Megan Willis of Spur; his parents, Larry and Regina Tilton of Lubbock; and two sisters, Kathy Gibson of Lubbock and Karen Muns of Waco.

Mike was preceded in death by a special uncle, Jerry Tilton.

The family suggests memorials to Lubbock Chapter AA or NA, 2809 Clovis Rd., Lubbock, TX 79415 or the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 415, Spur, TX 79370.

Melvin Kelm

Melvin Kelm, 78, passed away at 3:09 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at his residence in Plainview. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Gerald Boerger, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Mr. Kelm was born Aug. 4, 1927 in Burlington to Albert T. and Bertha Aginer Kelm. At the age of two he moved to the Providence Community and attended school in Providence and graduated from Plainview High School. He had served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. Melvin married Wanda Chester at Littlefield on Oct. 9, 1951. He was a member and served as councilman at Trinity Lutheran Church until he moved to Plainview in 1967 and transferred his membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Melvin farmed North East of Plainview and retired from custom farming and farming in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Kelm of Plainview; two sons, Ricky Kelm and Jerry Kelm both of Plainview; one brother, Donald Kelm of Plainview; four grandchildren, Melissa Tucker, Jerry Dale Kelm, Jr., Ashley Kelm, Jason Kelm.

Mayme Lou Porter

Mayme Lou Porter, 84, of Sherman died March 4, 2010. She will best be remembered as a gifted educator who transformed lives with her insight, wisdom and love. Memorial services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sherman with the Rev. Dr. Jim Pledger and Rev. Tom Peel officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Dannel Funeral Home.

Mayme was born in Scurry County, Texas on August 29, 1926, to Sam and Vallie Stokes. She graduated from Snyder High School, Texas Women's University, and Texas Tech University. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edwin and Arlen Stokes. She is survived by daughters, Anne Curry and husband James of Humble and Margie Morris and husband Tim of Sherman; five grandchildren, Kimberly McDaniel, Clay and Grant Morris, Alice Curry, and Kathleen Sekula; five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Chase McDaniel, and Presleigh, Phoenix and Caleb Morris; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Emilie Collins. Mayme will be remembered by a host of friends, teachers and students whose lives she enriched.

Memorials may be made to Austin College, Grace United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church Care Team, Home Hospice, The Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice.

William E. Shriver

William E. Shriver, 65, died Friday, March 12, 2010.

"Bill" or "The Commander", as he was called by his friends and family, was born in Pomona, Calif. on Aug. 13, 1944, to Wilbur and Mary Dallas Shriver. He graduated from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1962. He attended Ventura Junior College and later transferred to Cal Western University in San Diego, where he and his brother became a "pitcher-catcher" battery for the university's baseball team and he also played as a defensive corner back for the football team. He obtained a BA in Business. He was pursuing his Master's Degree when he was drafted by the U.S. Army. Sent to Fort Gordon, Ga., he won the honor of "outstanding trainee" and shipped out to Heidelberg, Germany where he met his wife, SGT Roberta "Robbie" Suttle.

He was also president of The Lubbock Business Association and The Texas Bottle Water Association throughout the 1980s.

Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Robbie; daughter, Kari; son, Jason; grandson, Dallas; granddaughter, Bailey Brooke; brother, Robert of Thailand; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Bobby Shriver.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2100 Research Rd., Lubbock, Texas.
