Randy Gerald Wood, Jr.

Randy Gerald Wood, Jr., beloved husband, cherished father, devoted son, brother and treasured friend passed away from us to his Heavenly rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 after an eight month battle with cancer.

Randy was born Oct. 19, 1973 and was the son of Randy and Rhonda Wood and Frank and Sharon Goen. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1992. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1998 with a BA in Public Relations. Randy married Angela Auburg in Brownfield on Aug. 1, 1998 and they are the proud parents of Gracie and Allie. He attended Wayland Baptist University and graduated in 2001 with a Master of Arts degree. Randy completed his doctorate in Business Administration with a specialty in Information Systems from Argosy University. Randy was employed by the City of Lubbock for nine years and was also an adjunct professor for Wayland Baptist University, Corinthian College, Mountain State University and Liberty University. Randy was a member of First Baptist Church, Lubbock.

Those left to cherish Randy's memories are his wife, Angela; two daughters, Emily Grace and Allie Faith Wood of Lubbock; mother, Sharon Goen and husband Frank; father, Randy Wood Sr., and wife Rhonda; brother, Andrew David Wood; sister, Penny Chandler and husband Eric, all of Brownfield; two step-brothers, William Scott Goen and wife Alicia of San Antonio and Michael Darin Goen of Boerne; maternal grandparents, Olen and Laura Little; father and mother-in-law, David and Janice Auburg, also all of Brownfield; step grandmother, Sue Fanning of Hereford; brother-in-law, Lance Auburg and wife Cenny of Dallas; two nieces, Natalie and Katharine Chandler; two nephews, Joseph Chandler and Austin Auburg; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Randy's life at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Lubbock with a reception following in the church parlor.

Rusty Wilson, Shane Hill, Trent Darby, Paul Porter, Jason Goelzer and Allen Schilling will serve as honorary casketbearers.

The family would like to thank the Lubbock Cancer Center, Hospice of Lubbock and Covenant nursing staff on South 7 for all their care and compassion. A very special thanks goes to all of First Baptist Church, friends and loved ones all over the world for all the love, support and prayers.

Because of Randy's love for education, a fund has been designated for his children.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Randy Wood Memorial Fund, at any American State Bank branch.

Dick Lee Powell

Dick Lee Powell of Lubbock passed away on March 10, 2010 at the age of 61. Dick was born here in Lubbock, Texas to the late N. G. and Bessie Powell. Dick graduated from Monterey High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The survivors he leaves behind to cherish his memories are his best friend, John Barron; his brother, Dan and wife Emilie Powell of Lubbock. And he will also be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews. Dick had one other cookie eating friend that he leaves behind and her name is Tucket (the dog).

The family will receive friends and loved ones that may wish to extend their condolences on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Sylvia Sepeda

Sylvia Sepeda, of Lubbock, departed this life on Friday, March 4, 2005 in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 44 years.

She was born on April 18, 1960 in Lubbock, Texas to the late Jose and Guillerma Rodriguez Sepeda. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Lubbock. She graduated from Lubbock High School. Sylvia loved people and was always willing to help those in need. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her father in 1996. Those left to mourn her passing include: her mother, Guillerma Sepeda of Lubbock; two sons, Levardo Lee and Eric Thomas Sepeda, both of Lubbock; one daughter, Kimberly Diane Squires of Lubbock; five brothers, Robert, Victor, Paul, Ruben and Jose Sepeda, all of Lubbock; six sisters, Yolanda Alcorta, Teresa Reyna, Juana Perez, Olivia, Endelia and Cynthia Sepeda, all of Lubbock; and seven grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 7 p.m. at White Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be recit ed on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Andres Mendoza, celebrant.

Cremation will follow the Resurrection Mass.

Dr. Qahtan Malki

Dr. Qahtan Malki, 39, passed away March 4, 2010.

He was born July 19, 1970 in Damascus, Syria. He practiced interventional cardiology in Lubbock since 2002.

He is survived by his parents, Najdat and Riad; two brothers, Adnan and Omran; his wife, Lama; and three children, Fawwaz, Noura and Razanne.

Larry Herald

Larry "Pops" Herald, 70, of Lubbock, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1940, in Hooker, Okla., to Marshal and Lucille Herald. He worked for West Texas Peterbilt for 32 years and was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge. Larry's favorite hobbies included woodworking and gardening.

His survivors include his wife of 18 years Carylon; sons, Larry, Jr., Bryan and Michael Herald; a daughter, E. D. Bagby; step-son, Brandon Black; sister, Pat Carman; brother, Jerry Herald; and numerous grandchildren.

Services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Richard Craven officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Larry's co-workers at West Texas Peterbilt for all the prayers and support.

Irene Flora Jones

Services for Irene Flora Jones, 88, of Sherman who passed away In the loving care of her daughter, Tuesday, October 3, 2006 will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006 at 1:00PM at Dannel Funeral Home. Chaplain Charlie Holt of The Hospice Center will officiate.

Mrs. Jones was born on June 22, 1918 in Toronto, Ontario the daughter of George Edward Wall and Flora Brown Wall Her father died before she was born and she was raised by Malcom McGregor and her mother.

She was schooled in Canada but had to quit to help her parents support the family during Great Depression.

When she was thirty two years old she married her schoolmate Fredrick James Jones on October 14, 1950 in Toronto. The family moved from Canada to Texas in 1975 and resided in Plano.

Mr. Jones preceded her in death and she moved to Sherman four years ago.

She is survived by her daughter: Bonnie Smith of Sherman and 2 grandsons: James Smith and Jason Smith.

Irene will be missed by nieces, nephews and cousins who reside in Toronto, and her special friends Josey and Chico of Sherman.

Estelle Kloiber

Graveside services for Estelle (Carol) Kloiber, 91, of Granbury will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Ron Bontrager officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

She died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Granbury Care Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1909, in Indian Gap. She married Frank Kloiber on Dec. 23, 1963, in Clovis, N.M. He died Dec. 4, 1972. She retired from Texas Tech Infirmary as an LVN at the age of 63, while residing in Levelland. Later she relocated to Valley Mills to be near her family. She was preceded by her son, Clifford Emmitt Carroll in 1948.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy Don Carroll of Burleson; a daughter, Joyce Ann Burdine of Austin; two brothers, Jess Fulcher of McGregor and Grover Fulcher of Plano; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchildren.

Helen F. Redwine

Chapel services for Helen F. Redwine, 80, of Muleshoe, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel of Muleshoe, with Frank Parker and Cory Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe cemetery in Muleshoe, Texas.

Mrs. Redwine died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at Muleshoe Area Medical Center. She was born on Oct. 20, 1929 in Nelson, Mo. She married D.L. Redwine, in Portales, N.M, on Dec. 21, 1947. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Pearl (Templemire) Tuttle; a grandson, Jason, in 1995; and a sister and brother.

Mrs. Redwine moved to Muleshoe from Portales, N.M. in 1947. She was a graduate of Portales High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Progress Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She belonged to the Bailey County Home Demonstration Club.

She is survived by her son, Jerry and wife Donna Redwine of Muleshoe; daughters, Connie and husband Gary Doyle of Carrolton and Lisa and husband Jack Kogut of Katy; sister, Marilyn Rothman of Culver City, Calif.; sister-in-law, Wanda Tuttle of Bloomfield, N.M.; five grandchildren, Jarrod and wife Kristi, Drew, Lexie, Derek and Paige; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Avery, Haley and Troy.

Memorials are suggested to Buckner Children and Family Services, 129 Brenhood Ave., Lubbock, TX 79416; or Meals on Wheels, 300 So. First, Muleshoe, TX 79347.

Conley Duaine Cook

Conley Duaine Cook, 54, of Spartanburg, S.C., passed on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an illness of several months.

He graduated from Permian High School in 1974 and received three degrees from Texas Tech University - Bachelor of Music (1987), Master of Fine Arts (1992) and Master of Arts (1993). A talented lyric baritone, he also studied at the Hartt School of Music, Hartford, Conn., and served as a church musician and choral soloist.

He served as Executive Director, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra; General Manager, North Arkansas Symphony Society, Fayetteville, Ark.; Program Director, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra; and Music Director, Congregation Shaareth, Lubbock. In 1998, he moved to Spartanburg, S.C., where he held a sales position for Jos. A. Bank Men's Clothier, taught at the University School of Spartanburg County and served as Music Director for Congregation B'nai Israel.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna Kaye Brand; parents, Rev. Bill and Dorothy Cook of Odessa, Texas; sister, Dr. Karon Cook, and niece, Emily Austin, of Houston; aunts, Nita Hardin of Lubbock, Peggy Cain of Midland, Merlene Slaughter of Corpus Christi; and uncles, Jim Barnes of Odessa and Dan Cook of Kentucky.

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, Odessa, Texas. 

Friends and family are welcome in the home of Doug and Sherry Saffle, Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m., 5105 77th Street, for a memorial celebration.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to: Texas Tech School of Music, In Memory of: Conley D. Cook, Box 42033, Lubbock, TX 79409-2033. This is a talent and need based scholarship.
