MARION SIMES WILSON

Funeral services for Marion Simes Wilson, 82, of Palacios, were held May 3, 2001 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shan Jackson officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Memorial Park in El Campo. Mr. Wilson was born May 29, 1918 in Pierce, Tex. to George Matthew Wilson and Leaner Claudia Worthington Wilson. He died May 1, 2001 in Bay City. He was a farmer and a resident of Palacios since 1966. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Palacios, the VFW in El Campo and a US Army veteran of World II in which he received the Purple Heart while serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters of combat. He was an avid gardener and a very compassionate person who also cared for his parents and his wife's parents until the time of their deaths. He is survived by his daughter, Annette Wilson, of Palacios; sons and daughters-in-law Eugene and Shirley Wilson of Palacios, Lee and Bobbie Wilson of Palacios, Lindsay and Kathy Wilson of Bay City, and Terrill and Jeanie Wilson of Palacios; grandchildren James Wilson, Bryan Wilson, Cassie Wilson, Lacie Wilson and Erica Wilson, all of Palacios, and Michael Sellers of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Scherdick Wilson, in 1987. Pallbearers were Wayne Wilson, James Wilson, Bryan Wilson, Randy Wilson, Edward Joe Scherdick and Charles Hutto.

JAMES AARON BRISTER

Funeral services for James Aaron Brister, 87, of Palacios, were to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment will be a Palacios cemetery. Mr. Brister was born Dec. 27, 1913 in San Augustine, Tx. to Henry James Brister and Charlcie Morning Marshall Brister. He died April 28, 2001. He was a longtime resident of Palacios and a former 30-yr. resident of Port Neches, Tx. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios, a retired fireman from the Neches Butane Co. of Port Neches, and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Jewell Burns Brister of Palacios; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Raymond Kwiatkowski of Troy, MI; sisters Maggie Drawhorn of Zavalla, Tx., Emily Harvey of Palacios, Elaine Melling of Groves, Tx., Dorothy Faye Hamlin of Sweeny, Tx., Charlcie LeClair of Pearland, Tx., and Melba Joyce McCroy of Palacios; brothers Willie Brister of Zavalla, Tx., Elton Brister of Selkirk Island, Tx., and L. J. Brister of Palacios; grandchildren Richard Aaron Womack and wife Jackie of Waterford, MI, and Sharron Renya Austin and husband Mark of Elizabethton, TN; and great-grandchildren Courtney Austin, Brooke Austin, and Renya Austin, all of Elizabethton, TN., hr>

ROSAURA FLORES

Funeral services for Rosaura Flores, 81, of Palacios, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with Rev. Andy Blair and Rev. Janell Blair officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Visitation will be held until noon Friday, April 27 at Palacios Funeral Home and afterwhich at the First Presbyterian Church up until the funeral service. Mrs. Flores was born July 1, 1919 in Mexico to the late Reyes and Pilar Sanchez Garcia. She died April 25, 2001. She is survived by daughters Ophelia Peres of Palacios, Evangeline Reyes of Palacios, Stella Martino of Palacios, and Pilar Flores of Austin; sons Abelardo Flores, Jr. of Palacios, Thomas Flores of Bay City, and Antonio Flores of Palacios; a sister, Teresa Gonzales of Palacios; 18 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Abelardo Flores, Sr. Pallbearers are Marcos Flores, Thomas Flores II, Abraham Flores, Eddie Reyes, Louis Martino III, and James Flores.

JEANNE PARTAIN

Funeral services for Jeanne Partain, 69, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Palacios, were held April 29, 2001 at Laurel Park United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia. Interment was in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Her remains rest at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Partain was born in Palacios to the late Joe and Alice Beard. She died April 26, 2001. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a graduate of Palacios High School. Mrs. Partain is survived by her husband, Jack Partain; children Jim and Kathy of Springfield, Virginia; five brothers, Everett Beard, JoeRay Beard, Lonnie Beard, Donnie Beard and Tommy Beard; one sister, Thelma Holloway; one grandson, Cory Partain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

JUDY ANN BARTOSH

Judy Ann Bartosh, 60, of Deer Park, Tx., died April 22, 2001 of lukemia at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She was born June 2, 1940 in Huntington, W. Va., to Frances Bean and the late Donald Leon 'Mac" McCain. A resident of Palacios for 18 years, she moved to Deer Park where she lived with her mother for the past 9 years. She was an accomplished writer, artist, and published poet. She is survived by her children Peggy and Jack Hawkins, Tomi Moebly, John and Beth Purtee, Barry and Shari Bartosh, and Diane Harrison; a brother, Robert L. McCain; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jerry Purczinsky; grandchildren Charlie and Angelica Hebert, Haley and Jamie Kruse, Sharlotte Hebert, Jamie Paige, Janet and Brock Hodge, Chalon Hawkins, Bonni Hawkins, Nicole Bartosh, Korey Bartosh, John Purtee III, Kimberly Bartosh, Daniel Harrison, and Jenna Harrison; and great-grandchildren Tristan and Steffen Kruse, and Jareth Hebert.

KATHLYN 'PATSY' SELLS

Funeral services for Kathlyn 'Patsy" Sells, 79, of Palacios were held April 21, 2001 at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment was in Palacios cemetery. A native of Palacios, she was born Feb. 21, 1922 in Palacios to the late John W. and Roberta Partain Richards. She died April 17, 2001. A homemaker, Mrs. Sells was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Philip Cusimano of Richmond; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Cyndie Sells of Palacios, Ron and Marsha Sells of Port Lavaca, and John and Sheryl Sells of Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Bobby Jean Braden of Port Lavaca and Ginger Turner of Kerrville; one brother, Joe Richards of El Campo; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Moore Sells; two sisters, Billie Burt Rowe and Lanell Richards; and one brother, John C. 'Red" Richards. Pallbearers were Ronald, Johnny and Bobby Sells, Philip, Kelly, Jeff and Andrew Cusimano. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Palacios.

HOMER THEODORE PHILLIPS

Funeral services for Homer Theodore Phillips, 91, of Blessing, were held April 16, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Blessing with the Rev. Larry Swift officiating Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mr. Phillips was born March 16, 1911 in Thorton. He died April 13, 2001, following a lengthy illness. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Blessing and was a contractor in the Blessing area. He is survived by his wife, Stella Rickaway Phillips; sons, David Phillips and Gary Phillips, both of Blessing; sister, Mildred Autrey of Brazoria; and three grandchildren.

RAYMOND GARCIA, JR.

Funeral services for Raymond Garcia, Jr., 54, of Palacios, were held April 10, 2001 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mr. Garcia was born April 10, 1946 in Palacios to the late Raymond Sr. and Paula Garcia. He died April 8, 2001. He was a former employee of United Electrical & Instrumentation of Clute and Davis International, working as an electrician. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Marleny Garcia; daughter Estella Garcia of Bay City; sons Raymond Garcia III of Angleton and Ruben Garcia of Brenham; sisters Lucy Garza of Freeport, Angelina Ferrell of Houston, Janie Penland and Pauline Gomez, both of Palacios; brothers Blas Garcia, Lucio Garcia and Joe Garcia, all of Palacios; and one grandchild.

ALBERTA 'ROBBIE' DeWITT

Funeral services for Alberta 'Robbie' DeWitt, 87, of Palacios, were held April 6, 200 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Moreland officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mrs. DeWitt was born Jan. 3, 1914 to Maggie S. Noland and Robert Lee Moore. She died April 3, 2001. She was a housewife and a Baptist. She is survived by a daughter, Martha Wright of Palacios; a son, Carl Kennon DeWitt of Victoria; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl DeWitt; a son, Kelly Knight DeWitt; sisters Monia Lee and Helamal; and a brother, Monroe Fancher. Funeral arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

MURIEL LAMEY BATES

Funeral services for Muriel Lamey Bates, 67, of Palacios, were held April 2, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Bates was born Feb. 6, 1934 in Bayou La Batre, Ala. to the late Mitchell Oliver and Hattie Smith Lamey. She died March 30, 2001 at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria. She was a Baptist and a resident of Palacios since 1975. Mrs. Bates is survived by her husband, Ted Bates, Jr. of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Hattie Lynn and Charles L. Wright of Selkirk Island, Karen Riva of Palacios, and Alisson and Billy Welsh of Palacios; a sister, Mildred Pomeroy of Knoxville, Tenn.; an aunt, Eunice Malette of Bayou LaBatre, Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Schjott of Bayou LaBatre, Ala. Pallbearers were Ronnie Johnson, Hudson Bates Sr., Gary Tilton, John Carroll Sardelich, Brian Schjott and Clay Schjott.

GERALD McKISSICK

Funeral services for Gerald McKissick, 63, of Bay City, were held April 1, 2001 at Taylor Bros. Funeral home with Pastor Rodney Box officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mr. McKissick was born Sept. 8, 1937 in Bay City to Thomas Walter and Alma Vavra McKissick. He died at his residence on March 30, 2001. Mr. McKissick was a resident of Bay City the past year and a former longtime resident of the El Maton area. His is survived by two daughters, Kathy McKissick of Bay City and Kimberly McKissick of Bryan, Tx.; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Charlotte McKissick of Bay City; his mother, Alma McKissick of El Maton; sisters and brothers-in-law Jessie and Jack Falks of Somerville, and Susie and Craig Glassock of El Maton; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Laura McKissick of Markham; grandchildren Brandon, Bradley and Bryce McKissick, and Hillary Vandervort, all of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna McKissick, and his father, Thomas Walter McKissick. Pallbearers were Kinney and Kevin McKissick, Jack Falks Jr., Greg Cain, Michael Glasscock and Jamie McAda. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon, Bradley and Bryce McKissick, and Bruce Ramsey.
