Bobbie Awalt Bentley Batterall
Graveside services for Bobbie Awalt Bentley Batterall of McGregor, formerly of Clifton, will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Norse cemetery, at 10 a.m.
Bobbie Awalt was born on Oct. 1, 1935, the daughter of Jesse C. Awalt and Frances Simmons Awalt. She went to rest with God on March 25, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband of 32 years, Dr. Thomas G. Bentley.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 15 years, Wilson D. (Bill) Batterall; a brother, Warren Awalt and wife, Sissy, of Fairfield; son, Keith Bentley and wife, Hayley of Killeen; daughter, Susan Outlaw and husband, Keith, of Hutto; stepdaughter Kristi Barrientos and husband, Jay, of Plano; grandchildren, Lauren Cloud and husband, Dustin; Lacy, Lindsey. and Bradley Bentley of Killeen; Jordan, Buckley, and Madison Outlaw of Hutto, Javier, Andres and Melena Barrientos of Plano; greatgrandson Landon Cloud of Killeen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Vernon Bronstad
Funeral services for Clifford Vernon Bronstad, 83, of Clifton, will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse with burial at Norse cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Clifton Funeral Home.
Bronstad was born Jan. 28, 1927, to E.G. and Otillie Bronstad in the Norse community. He passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
Bronstad served in the U.S. Army during 1945-46.
He married Clara Dee Kleine on March 8, 1952, and the couple made their home in Clifton.
He started his career at the Clifton Mercantile and then moved to Keeling’s Department Sore, which later became Bertelson’s. He retired in 1986.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8553 in Clifton.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse where he was baptized, confirmed, and married .
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton Douglas Bronstad, Orville Bronstad, Edgar Bronstad, Dwain Bronstad, and Arthur (Buck) Bronstad; and sisters, Ethel Woodward, Hazel Elmira Carminatti, and Evelyn Kettler.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Dee Bronstad; brother, Floyd Bronstad; daughters, Sherry Duke and husband, Tom, of Clifton, Hazel Zellmer and husband, Ron, of Kyle, and Deborah Everett and husband, David, of Clifton; grandchildren, Jeremy Everett and wife, Crystal, Alana Latiolais and husband, Tim, Zach Duke and wife, Kristin; and two great-grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wyndi Nicole Carlson
Funeral services for Wyndi Nicole “Niki” Carlson, 32, were held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11 a.m., at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Interment icon will follow at the Rock Church cemetery.
Niki Carlson was born in Clifton on May 8, 1977, the daughter of Owen and Sandi Carlson. She passed away on March 18, 2010, in Austin.
She was loved by everyone she knew and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her Grandpa Milford “Papa” Carlson and Milton “Grampe” Payne, and uncle, Russell “Rusty.”
Survivors include her parents, Owen and Sandi Carlson; sisters, Misti Glass and husband, Dusty, and Jami Edwards and husband, Rudy, all of Cranfills Gap; grandparents, Betty “Grandma” Smith and Weldon, Jayne “Mimi” Payne and Gary, Ann Payne; nieces and nephews, Blaine and Brady Glass and Delani and Jaxon Gage Edwards; and numerous aunts, uncles, and many friends.
Clifton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ada Williams
Graveside services for Ada Williams, 88, of Lake Whitney, were held Saturday, July 18, at Clifton Memorial Park, with Pastor Gregory Don Ray officiating.
Ada Huffman was born April 4, 1921, in Rio Vista, to Frank Huffman and Viola Grey. She passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009.
She was a a tailor for Dad & Lads men’s shop in Dallas for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jack and W.D. Huffman.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie B. Ray and husband, Lonnie, of Morgan, and Jan B. Dansby of Garland; two grandsons and wives, Robert L and Becky Ray of Richardson and Greg D. and Marquita Ray of Hillsboro; two sisters, Ila Joe York of Waco, and Mary Crowder of San Antonio; two sisters-in-law, Eddie Huffman of Clifton and Irene Huffman of Framers Branch; two great-grandchildren, Tessa Ray of Bryan and Robert Ray Jr. of Fort Riley, Kan.; one great-great-granddaughter, Kamyrn Villalpando of Bryan.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bradley Thomas Newsom
Bradley Thomas Newsom, 42, of Meridian, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Seventh and James Baptist Church, 602 James Avenue, Waco, with Dr. J. Preston Bright and Dr. Raymond Bailey officiating. The committal service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6000 South R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Newsom was born Nov. 13, 1967, in Dallas. He grew up in Waco and graduated from Midway High School (1986), Baylor University (1991), and Baylor Law School (1994). He practiced law in Bosque and Hill Counties, and was also the city attorney for Crawford. Newsom was active in the Masons, believing in brotherhood. He was serving as Master of the White Rock Lodge, Past Master of the Meridian Lodge, District Deputy Grand Master, and was a member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. He was also a member of the Waco Allied Masonic Degrees, the Scottish Rite and the York Rite. He was president of the North Bosque EMS.
He enjoyed living in the country. He was an avid hunter, dog trainer, and outdoorsman. He was a collector of wildlife art and fine wines. He was a good friend to many. He loved practicing law and helping his clients, and was known for his giving nature and generosity.
He is survived by his parents, Tom and Jane Newsom of Waco; sister, Amy Anderson and her husband, Cory, of Dallas, and their children, Bryn and Whit; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Cory Zane Anderson, Brian Cantrell, Honorable David Christian, Hugh Hackney, George Hallmark, Mark Pratt, J.T. Rabon, Randy Wiggins.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219.

Evelyn Edna Laxson Thomas
Funeral services for Evelyn Edna Laxson Thomas, 78, were held Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10 a.m., at Clifton Funeral Home with the Revs. Don McCollum, Ron Roberts, and John Franklin officiating. Interment icon was at Chapel Hill cemetery in Waco.
Evelyn Laxson was born June 6, 1931, in Battle, the daughter of George and Adela Hebbe Laxson. She passed away at Hillcrest Hospital on July 6, 2009.
She completed her GED, as well as her Medication Aide certification through McLennan Community College.
She married John Elton (Cooter) Thomas on Aug. 8, 1949, in Waco.
She was a certified medication aide and “Grandma” to many. She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, worked with Meals on Wheels, and always wanted to help others - she did not want people helping her. She enjoyed her family, pets, and reading her Bible.
“Grandma” kept a very special little one-year-old while her daddy and mommy were deployed to Afghanistan. Destiny gave Grandma many hours of pleasure and happiness and she was very proud of her military family, nieces, and nephews.
She had lived in many placed in Texas, but spent the last 25 years in Clifton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas; her parents; and a brother, Charles Laxson.
Survivors include her son, William and wife, Carol, Thomas of Clifton; daughters, Edna Clark and husband, John, of Van Horn, and Elaine Allen and husband, Rodrick, of Clifton; sisters Lousie Breedlove of McGregor, and Ella Thornley and husband, Guy, of Waco; brother, Melvin Laxson of Waco; and 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren (plus one due in January), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Pallbearers were Jason Harborth, Daniel Harborth, Chris Thomas, Jon Thomas, Tiki Merchant, Tommy Harborth, Robert Ivey, Jory Booth, and Michael Odom.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James David Bergman
Funeral services for James David Bergman, 81, were held Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Alicia Thompson-Summers. Interment icon was at the Rock Church.
James Bergman passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Bergman Farm at Norse. He was born on Jan. 27, 1932, at the Bergman Farm, to Milton and Claris Bergman.
He attended Clifton schools and Clifton Jr. College.
On Dec. 13, 1957, he married Mina Faye Sorenson. The couple had four children. They lived in Clifton for two years, and the Bergman Farm for 57 years. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Neils Creek Wildlife Management Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Guard.
He was a man of integrity that loved his wife, family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand.
The Bergman Farm has been in the family since 1887. Both James and his father were born in the house the family calls home. It was his dream that the farm will remain “The Bergman Farm” for many years to come.
Survivors include Mina Bergman of Clifton; sons, Mel Bergman and wife, Nancy of Arlington, Danny Bergman and wife, Nancy of Cleburne, James Bergman and wife, Ami of New Braunfels; daughter Marian Fraser and husband, Gary of Waco; grandchildren, Hillary and Brian Stanton of Burleson, Christina Lopez of Cleburne, Chris Bergman of Lubbock, Zach Bergman of San Antonio, Tyler Bergman of New Braunfels, Madelyne Bergman of Lewisville, Logan Fraser of Waco; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Katy, Jacob, Jordyn, Avery; sisters, Edna Shahan, Mary Conrad and husband, Vic; brother, Vern Bergman and wife Joyce; sister-in-law Mary Margaret Bergman; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chris D. Bergman, Jack Bergman, Tyler Bergman, Tommy Koons, Ryan Koons, Chris Bergman, Mike Conrad, and Brian Stanton.

Robert E. Avirett
Robert E. Avirett, age 62, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Luke's of The Woodlands Hospital in The Woodlands.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian, with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Interment icon was in the Meridian cemetery.
Pallbearers were his son, Robert Avirett, Jr., and friends.
Mr. Avirett was born Aug. 26, 1950 in San Benito, Texas to Robert R. Avirett and Juanita Marie Barnum Avirett. The Avirett family moved to Meridian where Robert grew up and graduated from Meridian High School. After graduation he attended college, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later went to work as a cost estimator for an oil company.
Survivors include his son, Robert Eugene Avirett, Jr., of The Woodlands and long time friend, Patricia Abney, also of The Woodlands. Other survivors include numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Avirett was preceded in death by his parents; Robert and "Nita" Avirett; and a brother, Vance Avirett.
