Rose Marie Putman
Graveside services for Rose Marie Putman, 88, of Clifton, were held at Smith Bend-Coon Creek cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 3 p.m.
Rosie Pierce was born on Aug. 2, 1921, in Chillicothe, to Bruce and Mary Elliott Pierce. She passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her home in the Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility in Clifton.
She lived in Amherst, and moved to Fort Worth when she was eight. When she was 15, she was baptized at the Church of Christ in Mansfield.
She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth in 1939, and on June 21, 1941, she married her sweetheart, John Bruce Putman.
From 1941 to 1943, her husband was in the Navy and she lived with his mother in Fort Worth. During the next several years of her life, she lived in Mansfield, and spent time raising her three children, volunteering at the fire department, and being involved in the local hospital auxiliary.
In 1966, she became a licensed LVN at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth and worked at Arlington memorial Hospital and at two other nursing homes in Arlington.
Her father lived at Lake Whitney, and she and her husband eventually bought his home and moved to Lake Whitney in 1971. She then worked as an LVN at a Valley Mills nursing home until she retired.
During their retirement years, she and her husband traveled in an RV. They spent summers at Cloudcroft, N.M., and winters at Port Isabel. Two years after the death of her husband, in 1997, she moved to Clifton and in 2008, moved into Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility.
She was very loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished being with her family. She was full of life, honest, and hard working. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, crocheting, gardening, bird watching, collecting shells, and many other hobbies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Larry Bruce Putman.
Survivors include a sister, Ollie Jo Culpepper of Haslet; children, Richard Lee Putman and wife, Sheila, of Branson, Mo., Linda Burns and husband, B.J. Burns, of Reserve, N.M., grandchildren, Leah Anderson and husband, Taylor, of Clifton, Sandi Rogers of Arlington, Troy Sorrell of Arlington, Paul Putman and wife, Shannon, of Clifton, Scott Sorrell of Alvarado, Debbie Morrison of Springfield, Mo., Jason and Desire Morrison of Nixa, Mo., Bo Burns of Reserve, N.M., and McKenzie Burns of Alvarado; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mabel Downey
Funeral services for Mabel Downey, 104, of Meridian were held graveside at the Fairview cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, with the Rev. Richard Creech and Stephen O’Neal officiating.
Mabel O. Dorman was born on Aug. 19, 1905, in the Greenock community near Valley Mills. She passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
She was the first of nine children born to Edgar Sleet Dorman and Lulie Fay Crump Dorman.
On Aug. 20, 1925, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. (Hokie) Downey at Coon Creek.
She and her husband farmed in the Fairview community before moving to Lakeside Village in 1940 and then to Meridian in 1974.
She lived in Bosque County all her life and was a homemaker with many talents, including sewing, crocheting, quilting, and ceramic painting. She was a member of Meridian First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Herbert (Hokie) Downey; brothers, George, Tony, Jack, and Gene Dorman; sister, Frances Stearnes; and grandchildren Joe Bob Law and Calvin Law.
Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Law and husband, Billy, of Meridian, and Mary Lou Strother and husband, Bill, of Tyler; granddaughters, Kathy O’Neal and Valorie Hedrick; grandson, Nelson Strother; great-grandchildren, Chris Law, Stephen O’Neal, Zach O’Neal, Taylor Hedrick, Brad Hedrick, Sam Hedrick, Sam Strother, and Emily Strother; great-great-grandchildren Caleb Law and Macy O’Neal; sisters, Ellen Nott of Houston, Faye Leaird of Santa Barbara, Calif.; brother, Edgar S. (Dugan) Dorman of Valley Mills; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Roberson
Funeral services for Irene Roberson, 86, of Crawford, were held Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Clifton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Campbell. Burial was in the Rockspring cemetery at Valley Mills.
Irene Johnson Roberson was born Feb. 5, 1923, in China Spring, the daughter of the late Sam and Mary (Sadler) Johnson.
She worked many years as a dietician assistant at Hillcrest Hospital and Goodall-Witcher Hospital, until her retirement.
She was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church in Crawford, where she served as an usher and President of BTU.
She was very involved in many community projects and was known for her homemade cakes.
Survivors include sons, R.J. (Patsy) Roberson of Waco, Bill (Addie) Roberson of Bossier, La.; daughters, Inez Roberson of Clifton, Grace Lee (Jimmie) Rosemond of Greer, S.C., Ginger Roberson of Aransas Pass; sisters, Frankie (John) Brookin of Tulia, Inez Johnson of Crawford, Grace Newson of Victoria; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lola Richardson
Lola Richardson, 84, of China Spring, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, in a local nursing home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Grace Baptist Church in China Spring. Interment icon will be in the China Spring cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Lola Wilson was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Valley Mills. She was the daughter of Roy and Martha (Watson) Wilson. She attended the Austin School for the deaf. She married H.P. Richardson on Aug. 11, 1948, in Houston.
She had lived in China Spring area since 1986 and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, H.P. Richardson; four sons, Paul M. Richardson and wife, Vivian, John H. Richardson and wife, Pat, Brett T. Richardson and wife, Amy, and Jeffery Richardson; four grandchildren, Amber Oliver, Brad Richardson, Gregory Richardson, Tyler Clifton; and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Thomas Ash, Chris Oliver, Gregory Richardson, Joe Smith, Brad Richardson, and Tyler Clifton.
Foss Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jaylie Vonasek
Jaylie Alane Vonasek, precious daughter of Brian and Jiliane (Jobe) Vonasek, passed away on Oct. 11, 2009. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, at Patrick cemetery, near China Spring, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home of Valley Mills.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by great grandfathers: Frank F. Vonasek and James Jobe.
Survivors include her parents Brian and Jiliane Vonasek of Waco; grandparents, Anthony and Debora Vonsasek of Waco, Steve and Tami Jobe of Valley Mills; great-grandparents, Iris Marie Vonasek of West, William and Elnora Schwake of Robinson, Art and Liz Clifton of Valley Mills, Bobbie Jobe of Waco, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Juanita “Mamacita” Smith Thrasher
Juanita ThrasherJuanita Thrasher, age 86, of Valley Mills, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in a Waco Hospital. Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Monday Oct. 12, at the Mosheim Baptist Church. Interment icon was in the Valley Mills cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Juanita Smith was born March 7, 1923 on a farm near Patton, the daughter of C.C. (Lum) and Mittie (Cummings) Smith. Her parents later moved to the Mosheim-Valley Mills area where she attended and graduated Valley Mills High School in 1940 with her brother, Cortez Smith.
She moved to Waco at the age of 18 and attended NYA school and was employed by various sewing factories. She later was hired by the Waco Air Force Base and remained in the civil service until 1981; spending her last 5 years with the V.A. Regional Office retiring after 30 years of service.
She married the love of her life, Henry Thrasher, in Waco, on Dec. 15, 1956. They bought a ranch near Mosheim and lived there for 20 years until her husband’s health failed. After selling the ranch to neighbors; they bought the “old Brasher” home in Mosheim. Her husband had four years there until his cancer got worse, he was called home in August of 1991.
Thrasher was very active, enjoying deer hunting and fishing with her husband. They traveled the U.S.A. to watch thoroughbreds run at various race tracks.
After her husband’s death she bought a home in the Rio Grande Valley and would spend the winters there. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, and making quilts. She was known as “Mamacita” by her grandchildren loved to dance and being with other people her age. As her health declined she moved to Waco to Providence Park where she currently lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Eva Lee Landgraf, and a brother, Cortez Smith.
Survivors include her son, Michael L. Trollinger and wife, Judy, of Brady; three granddaughters, Alissa Trollinger and Brian Van Kampen, of Phoenix, Amber and husband, Michael Rich, of San Diego, and Allie Trollinger of Brady; four great-grandchildren, Amberlyn Glasscock, Jack Van Kampen, Max Van Kampen, and Ace Trollinger.

Louis G. Navarro
Louis G. Navarro, 79, of Valley Mills, passed away Sept. 25, 2009, in Clifton Nursing home.
Navarro was born July 7, 1930, in El Paso, the son of Epimenio and Maria (Olivas) Navarro. He was married to Raquel Cepeda on Nov. 10, 1951, in El Paso. She preceded him in death in 1992. His youngest son, Richard, preceded him death in 2001.
Navarro retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad in El Paso, in 1987. He moved to Valley Mills in 1996 with his daughter, Terri. Before his health began to fail he spent his time enjoying country living, doting on his beloved granddaughter, Rhiannon, and tending to his many cats.
Survivors include his children, Theresa Navarro-Small and husband, Noel, of Valley Mills, Michael P. Navarro, Louis G. Navarro Jr. and wife, Patricia, of El Paso; six granddaughters, Rhiannon, Amanda, Rachel, Jennifer, Catherine, and Laura Navarro.
A private memorial service and interment will be held in El Paso at Mount Carmel Cemetary at a later date.

Billie C. Westerfield
Billie C. Westerfield, 71, of Crawford, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at the Canaan Baptist Church near Crawford. Interment icon will be at the Crawford cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Westerfield was born August 14, 1938, in McLennan County. He was the son of Carl and Rosemary (Pollard) Westerfield. He was married to LaJuana Hawkins on June 27, 1958, in Crawford.
He had formerly worked for Rocketdyne, Central Freight, and Crawford I.S.D.
He loved hunting, his cattle, family, and friends. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Ginger Martin.
Survivors included his wife LaJuana Westerfield of Crawford, his mother; Rosemary Westerfield; a son, Lane Westerfield and wife, Greta, of Crawford; 5 grandchildren, Shanda Harrison, Bethani Stanford both of Waco, Jacob, Sara, and Luke Westerfield all of Crawford.

Martha Jane “Little Granny” Simmons
Martha Jane Simmons, 86, of Valley Mills, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 24 at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills with Rev. Koby Strawser officiating.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m., at Greenwood Memorial Park in Ft. Worth under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Martha was born on July 8, 1924, at the Continental Oil Camp in Mexia, to Thomas and Della (Briscoe) McCrorey. She graduated high school in Kermit and attended Hardin Simmons on a voice scholarship.
She married 2nd Lt. Charles L. Simmons in 1942. She was an Air Force wife for 28 years.
Martha enjoyed teaching Bible study, playing golf, bowling, skeet shooting, flower gardening, and sewing. She worked for Valley Mills I.S.D. as a school bus driver, Valley Mills Care Center, as a Dental Assistant, was very active in the benevolence committee with the Valley Mills First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, and a great granddaughter, Emily Marie.
She is survived by daughters, Becky Strawser and husband Harry of Valley Mills, Rachel Simmons of Louisiana, Rhoda Simmons of Valley Mills; a son, Charles L. Simmons III of Valley Mills; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also her Chihuahua Topsey and cat Pricilla who were her constant loyal companions.
