PHERIABA A. FARMER, age 96, died Monday, July 25, 2005 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Miller officiating. Interment icon will be in Coleman City cemetery.

She was born Pheriaba Anita Shields on August 15, 1908 in White Chapel, Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of the late William Campbell (Cam) Shields and Bertha Hamilton Shields. She grew up in Novice and graduated from high school there. She graduated from college and taught school at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD. On August 4, 1929 she married James Lee Farmer and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2000. Pheriaba was a member and past matron of the Eastern Star, a member of Retired Teachers Association, AARP and a former Delta Kappa Gamma member. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Chapel Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one brother, Charles Shields of Sun City, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Doris M. Shields of San Antonio, Texas; five nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Eastern Star, c/o Brenda Honea, 702 W. Walnut, Coleman, Texas 76834 or the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 852, Coleman, Texas 76834.

DOROTHY DILLINGHAM, age 87, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Wallace officiating and assisted by Rev. Raymond Jones. Burial will follow in the Shields cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Dorothy Louise Akins on April 25, 1918 in Trezevant, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Joeseaphus and Edna Belle Fields Akins. She grew up in the Santa Anna area and graduated from Santa Anna High School. On November 18, 1938 she married Jack Pershing Dillingham in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1983. Dorothy worked at the Santa Anna National Bank for 36 years, retiring in 1990 as an Assistant Vice President. She was also a farmer, rancher and sheepherder. Dorothy was a Christian and a member of Gouldbusk Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Paul and Evelyn Dillingham of Santa Anna, Texas, John Michael and Diann Dillingham of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren, Andrew Paul Dillingham of Santa Anna, Texas, Sandi Renae Dillingham Buchanan and husband Matthew of Lubbock, Texas, John Mark Dillingham and wife Kim of Pearland, Texas, Audra Britt Dillingham Paty and husband Brad of Duncanville, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Jade Coletan Buchanan, Mattisan Briquell Buchanan, Conlan Quinn Buchanan all of Lubbock, Texas, Kara Lynn Dillingham of Pearland, Texas; three nieces, Sheila Simmons, Cynthia Henson both of Weatherford, Texas, Margaret Neal of Bedford, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson, Troy Michael Dillingham.

Family visitation will be held on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

VIOLA POND, age 91, former Glen Cove resident, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 in San Angelo. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Seigler, her son-in-law, officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Cove cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Viola Mildred Reeves on January 14, 1914 in Marysville, Cook County, Texas, a daughter of Arbin M. Reeves and Lillie Mae Wood Reeves. She grew up and attended school in Marysville. On July 28, 1929 she married Rev. Thurman L. Pond in Marysville and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1999. Mrs. Pond was a pastor’s wife for almost 70 years and lived in various places in West Texas and New Mexico. She was a leader and long-time member of the WMU and was a member of Glen Cove Baptist Church. She moved to Baptist Memorials in San Angelo in April 1998.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Doris Jean and Don Seigler of San Angelo; three sisters, Sue Stewart and husband Albert of San Angelo, Esther Pearl Hardin of Jal, NM and Jessie Fay Cole and husband Ray of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dottie Pond of Glen Cove, Texas; three grandchildren, Gerald Leslie Pond of Glen Cove, Texas, Terry Dale Seigler of Springdale, Arkansas and Timothy Don Seigler of Albuquerque, NM; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Doyle Ray, Leslie Lemoin and Walter Pond.

Memorials may be made to Baptist Memorials Hospice, 903 N. Main, San Angelo, Texas 76903.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Felipe Vasquez, age 83 of Coleman, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Steve Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Ranch cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Vasquez was born May 1, 1922 in Burnet, Texas, the youngest of 13 children, to Juan and Elaine Vasquez. He grew up in Coleman County and married Clara Fuentes on August 15, 1959 in Ballinger. He worked on various ranches in Coleman County.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Vasquez of Coleman, one son, Israel Vasquez of Coleman; two nieces, Ruby Trevino of Coleman, Juanita Nieto of Marble Falls; great-niece, Isabel Garza of Winters; great-nephew, David Trevino of Little Rivers Academy, Texas and two great-great nephews, Stephen Tyler Garza of Winters and Isaac Trevino of Coleman.

He was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Vasquez and 12 brothers and sisters.

A prayer service with family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arturo Torres, age 84 of San Angelo and former Coleman resident, died Monday, June 6, 2005 at Riverside Care Center in San Angelo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Clement Onwunata, CSSp officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born Arturo Urias Torres, the son of Ignascio Torres and Francisca Urias Torres, on November 20, 1920 in Coahuila, Mexico. He married Lily Cardenas on February 3, 1948 in Coleman County. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1959. He came to Coleman in the early 1940’s and moved to San Angelo in 1969. He worked on ranches, dairies and feed lots including San Angelo Feed Yard and attended Sacred Health Cathradel Church in San Angelo.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse James Torres, and his wife Irma of San Antonio, Henry Leroy Torres of San Angelo; one daughter, Betty Torres of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Kenneth Neives, Sandy Gomes, Manuel Torres, Mandolynn Torres, Ana Torres; two sisters-in-law, Dora Van Pelt of Coleman, Billie Cardenas of Glen Cove and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and four half-brothers.

A Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.

BOLTON – Veva (Toad) Bolton went home to the Lord and her family and friends on Friday, June 3, 2005. She was born in Whon, TX to Tom and Effie Freeman Cooper on February 13, 1922. She graduated from Centennial High School as a star basketball player. On June 11, 1943, she married Venon Bolton at the Coleman Church of Christ, during her lunch hour. They shared 47 years together until Venon passed away in 1990. In 1947 they moved to Fort Pierre, SD where they resided until 1967 at which time they returned to Texas, first to Sealy and then to Odessa. Veva had four brothers and three sisters. Alfred Cooper and wife Rexa Dae, both deceased; Jack Cooper, deceased and wife Skeeta of Temple, TX; Pete Cooper, deceased; Elec Cooper and wife Rose of Rockwood, TX; sisters, Louise Davis, deceased and husband Alton of Snyder, TX; Loma Minnix and husband Boog, both deceased; and Betty Jo Cooper deceased, and many nephews and nieces. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Pexa and husband Revi, of Albuquerque; grandsons, Revi Don Pexa of Phoenix, AZ, John Pexa and wife Tiffany, great-granddaughter Chloe of Phoenix, AZ; and Van Pexa of Albuquerque; step-daughter Joyce Hamby and husband Paul of Phoenix, AZ; step-son, Ray Bolton of Denver, CO; and step-daughter Connie Newman and husband Wally of Fort Pierre, SD. For the past 41/2 years Veva resided at Bear Canyon Retirement Center and Carestone Assisted Living. Services were held on Monday, June 6, 2005 at 10:0 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Friends visited at French Mortuary on Sunday, June 5, 2005 from 4:00 to7:00 p.m. Services in Coleman, TX will be held at Stevens Funeral Home, on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Rockwood cemetery. Friends may visit at Stevens Funeral Home Tuesday, June 7, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Veva requested that memorial donations be made to Special Olympics New Mexico, 6600 Palomas Ave NE, 87109, in the name of her grandson, Van Pexa.

Jacky Duane McDonald, age 73 of Coleman, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jacky was born April 13, 1932 in Coleman County, the son of Newton Carl McDonald and Maxie Williams McDonald. He attended school at Loss Creek and served in the United States Army Air Corps. He married Barbara Ann Arnold on August 8, 1952 in Coleman. He worked in oil field in and around Coleman. He moved to Houston and worked for Brown Oil Tools, Inc. and returned to Coleman in 1974. He attended Barber College in Abilene and became a licensed barber, working in Coleman where he owned Clifford Moore Barber Shop. He continued to work in the oil field until 1987. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, loved his family and playing a good game of 42.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann McDonald of Coleman, one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry & Denise McDonald of Lake Brownwood; two daughters and son-in-law, Vicki and Dr. Steve Arthur of Abilene, Sherry Cozart of Coleman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Dorothy McDonald of Coleman, Bill and Joyce McDonald of Abilene; his mother-in-law, Ernestine Arnold of Coleman; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Kay Sprinkles, Diane Elkin and Patta Blake all of Lake Brownwood; nine grandchildren, Logan McDonald, Lindsey McDonald, Allison Cowling, Angela Zuyus, Robin Arthur, Josh Rhone Arthur, LaShan Arthur, Garrett Cozart, Reagan Cozart; two great-grandchildren, Braaden Morton, Katelynn Zuyus and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Bobby McDonald, Frank McDonald, Newton Carl McDonald, Jr., Ouida Philmon and Wilma Jean Davis.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the funeral home.

Ysabel M. Lopez, age 94 of Santa Anna, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Clement Onwunata, CSSp officiating. Burial will follow in the Valera cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Ysabel Martinez on August 24, 1910 in Coleman County, the daughter of Eutimo Martinez and Julia Guerrero Martinez. She married Juan Lopez in July, 1929. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1990. She moved to Santa Anna in 1992 after living in Valera for 45 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include one son, Felix Lopez of Fort Worth; one brother, C.G. Martinez of Fort Worth; two granddaughters, Janda Aleese Lopez Castillo of Kerrville, Manda D’Neese Lopez Kline of Arlington, Virginia; one great grandson, Jacob Michael Castillo of Kerrville and numerous nephews and nieces including Ofelia DeLeon, Julia Enriquez and Amelia DeLeon all of Santa Anna.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincente Martinez, Asencion Martinez, Eleno Martinez; four sisters, Juanita Deanda, Josefa Dela Rosa, Edwarda Garcia and Tomasa Martinez.

Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Reyes Cardenas, Ramon Cardenas, Bincente Diaz, Jose Enriquez, Gabriel Enriquez and Manuel Enriquez.

Jo Ann Simpson, age 66 of Bangs and former Coleman resident, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Brownwood, Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Coleman City cemetery Pavilion with Rev. James Posey officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jo Ann was born December 3, 1938 in Coleman, the daughter of the late Ruth Eldred Simpson and George Simpson. She moved to California early in life with her family, attending school in Ventura. She married Doyle Roberts in Coleman and moved to Bangs five years ago.

She is survived by her father, George Simpson of Brownwood, one sister, Ruby McCullough of Brownwood; two granddaughters, Terry Gregory and Sara Gregory both of Ventura, California and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Gregory and her mother.

Family visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

DOROTHY JEAN COLEMAN, age 78, long-time Fort Worth resident, died at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, Texas on May 19, 2005. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Miles cemetery in Miles, Texas with Rev. Chester McCowan officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

She was born Dorothy Jean Lummus on May 7, 1927 in Miles, Texas, a daughter of Roy Edgar Lummus and Mary Lee Holland Lummus. She grew up in Miles and graduated from Miles High School in 1945. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miles, was active in the Miles community and ran the school concession stand there. She moved to San Angelo where she lived several years and worked at the Holiday Inn. In the 1970’s she moved to Fort Worth and worked at Vance Godbey’s for many years.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Paul Dugan of Clyde, Texas, Pam and Roland Witt of Coleman, Texas; one sister, Naomi (Pickie) Porter of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two faithful sisters-in-law, Josh Landwermeyer of Richardson, Texas and Goldie Coleman of San Angelo, Texas; three grandchildren, Tia and husband Curtis Snell and Flint and wife Anna Wallace all of Weatherford, Texas and Chance Witt of Coleman, Texas; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, five sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Orin Smith, age 85 of Coleman and formerly of Hydesville, California, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his family. No services are planned. His body will be cremated.

He was born Orin Eugene Smith on December 17, 1919 in Loleta, California, the son of Harold Arthur Smith and Hattie Irene Amen. He grew up and attend school in Loleta and Rohnerville, California. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He married Nancy Lea Ridenour on February 6, 1960 in Reno, Nevada. He worked in the lumber industry as a Cat Skinner and retired after working 18 and a half years from the Fortuna Union High School as a custodian and school bus driver. He volunteered with Cancer Society and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He moved to Coleman a year ago.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith of Coleman; three children, Leanna Greenbush of Lynn Haven, Florida, Karen Stamp of Coleman, Peter Smith of Eureka, California; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Marge Smith of Fresh Water, California, Cliff and Nora Smith of Mad River, California, Vernon and Linda Smith of Fortuna, California, Ferris and Adrian Smith of Chico, California; one sister, Ruby Oliveira of Fortuna, California; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers.
