Freida Mae Joiner

SAN ANGELO — Freida Mae Joiner, 96, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Fairmount Cemetery with Ross Elliott officiating, directed by Robert Massie Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Mrs. Joiner was born in San Angelo and was a lifelong resident. She was a retired operator supervisor for GTE and a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Davye Loyd of Abilene; one sister, Catherine Nabors of San Leandro, Calif.; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Elisabeth Anna Harris

CARBON — Elisabeth Anna Harris, 63, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Eastland City Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris was born in Germany, where she graduated from high school and attended college. She married Gerold Lee Harris on Nov. 21, 1969 in Germany. She worked for Victor Cornelious in the printing department and was a member of the Carbon First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Carbon; one daughter, Manulia Cagle of Eastland; and two grandchildren.

Bill Allen

SWEETWATER — Bill Allen, 67, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with the Revs. Allen Brooks and David Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born in Sweetwater and attended Newman High School. He married Doris Polk on Aug, 24, 1949 in Abilene. He owned and operated Allen’s Family Meals from 1967 until 1992 when he retired. He was a member of the Highland Heights United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; one son, Billy G. Allen Jr. of Sweetwater; two daughters, Teresa Turnbow and Susanne Nazworth, both of Sweetwater; one brother, U.H. “Rusty” Allen of Sweetwater; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Joe M. Watson

LAKE BROWNWOOD — Joe M. Watson, 76, died Monday in a Brownwood nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Plainview Cemetery in Plainview, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Mr. Watson was born in Haskell County and moved to Brownwood in 1988. He had lived and worked in Lubbock as a glass glazier for A-1 Glass Co. for 30 years. He worked for the Rocky Acres Kennel in Brownwood and was a member of the Brownfield First Methodist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Gene Watson of Brownwood; one sister, Sue Doss of Brownfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or donor’s favorite charity.

Lewis R. ‘Luke’ Harrison

CISCO — Lewis R. “Luke” Harrison, 56, died Tuesday at his home.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 10 a.m. today in the Oakwood Cemetery with the Revs. Gary Turner and Jay Maples officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home of Cisco.

Mr. Harrison was born in Colorado City. He married Brenda Maples on July 26, 1968 in Cisco. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Finley Construction in Eastland as a supervisor. He had coached Little League, Pony League and the Girls Softball. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of Cisco; two sons, Richard Harrison of Cisco and Mikey Harrison of Rising Star; two daughters, Lacey Johnson and Cheryl Taylor, both of Cisco; two brothers, Forrest Harrison of Cisco and Bill Harrison of Monahans; one sister, Lucille Wells of Cisco; and five grandchildren.

Ida Lou Arnold Tucker

EASTLAND — Ida Lou Arnold Tucker, 78, died Tuesday in an Eastland hospital.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with Joe Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Tucker was born in Eastland County and attended school at Flatwood, Rhineland, and Sunset. She was the widow of J.A. “Abb” Putnam. She married Walter Tucker on March 26, 1976 in Altus, Okla. She worked as a sales clerk at gas stations in Callahan and Eastland Counties for 20 years. She was a member of the American Ex-POW’s Chapter 1 in Abilene, the DAV Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary in Eastland. She was a member of the Flatwood Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of Eastland; four daughters, Vera Hogan of Odessa, Angie Walker of Crowley, and Nancy Smith and Janette Pitts, both of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Bill Byrd of Odessa; three stepsons, Walter Tucker Jr. of Greenville, Mike Tucker of Abilene, and Patrick Tucker of Pueblo, Colo.; one brother, Richard Arnold of Eastland; four sisters, Elsie Clemmer of Abilene, Velma Fenter of Billings, Mont., Margaret Richmond of DeLeon, and Rosa Etta Williams of Eastland; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Annie Mae Moss

KNOX CITY — Annie Mae Moss, 97, died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the Knox City First Baptist Church with Elder Barber and John L. Reese officiating. Burial will be in the Knox City Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.

Mrs. Moss was born in Yoakum and moved to Knox City in 1924. She was the widow of Jessie Moss. She had worked for the Knox County Hospital and was a member of the Church of the Living God in Christ in Knox City.

Survivors include one son, John D. Taylor of Fairfield, Calif.; six daughters, Lillie Mae Roundtree of Pasadena, Calif, Lavada Thomas and Florene Hornsby, both of Stamford; Elnora Mallard and Dollie Rodgers, both of Fort Worth, and Ima Jean Sessions of Knox City; two brothers, Charlie Flye of Munday and Isaiah Flye of Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Flye and Ida Cathcart, both of Knox City; 45 grandchildren; 95 great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren.

Jack Blanchard

SWEETWATER — Jack Blanchard, 74, died Monday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Mr. Blanchard was born in Haskell, Okla. and had lived in Sweetwater since 1962. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Pamelia Jane Sanderson on April 3, 1953 in Blackwell. He attended Hardin-Simmons University and graduated from Sul Ross University. He taught school for 35 years in Snyder, Christoval, Fluvanna, and Sweetwater, retiring in 1986. He was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association and of the TSTA. He was District Chairman of Boy Scouts Chisholm Trail Council. He was on the administrative board of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; one son, Brent Blanchard of Sweetwater; one daughter, Jana Bentle of Sweetwater; one brother, Ross Blanchard of Snyder; one sister, Marjorie Cox of Muskogee, Okla; and two grandchildren.

Kathleen Watson

LAWTON, OKLA. — Kathleen Watson, 85, formerly of Abilene, died Monday.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Merkel with the Rev. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Watson was born in the Reynolds Community and grew up in the Troup area. She graduated from Troup High School and East Texas Baptist College. She was the widow of Nolan Watson. She taught school and later worked in banking at Kermit and Snyder. She was also employed by the U.S. Times and a credit bureau service. She moved from Abilene to Lawton in 1999. She was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.

Survivors include one son, Nolan Watson Jr. of Cache, Okla.; two daughters, Gwindolyn May of Abilene and Nola Kay Watters of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to donor’s favorite charity.

Addie Pearl Armstrong

Addie Pearl Armstrong, 79, of Abilene, died Wednesday at a local nursing center.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ed Jackson officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.

Mrs. Armstrong was born in San Jacinto County and moved to Abilene 50 years ago. She was the widow of Horace Armstrong. She was a homemaker and a member of Wylie United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Mieritz of Carrollton and Gayle Armstrong of Abilene; a brother, Leo Ellisor of Abilene; a sister, Sue Evans of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc., P.O. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604.
