J.T. Key

J.T. Key, 70, a longtime Abilene resident, died Tuesday at his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Potosi Cemetery with the Rev. John W. Syrios officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home of Abilene.

Mr. Key was born in Lawn. He was the widower of Katherine Key and a Baptist.

Survivors include companion, Reba Sellers; two brothers, Manson Key of Oklahoma and Charles Key of Clyde; two sisters, Judy Nelson of Abilene and Jewel Dean Clendennen of Abilene; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reta Pauline Presswood

Reta Pauline Presswood, 85, died Tuesday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at North's Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road with the Rev. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Fort Phantom Cemetery.

Mrs. Presswood was born in Kosse and moved to Jones County in 1923. She graduated from Hawley High School and attended McMurry College. She was the widow of Lloyd Presswood, whom she married in 1936. She had worked for the Abilene Independent School District for 15 years and had been a volunteer at Hendrick Medical Center for five years. She was a charter member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Lloyd Presswood of Abilene; one daughter, Lynn Smith of Midland; one sister, Mary Yardumian of Colorado; one brother, Perry Francis of Houston; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home at 242 Orange.

Johne Roberts

Johne Roberts, 74, of Abilene, died Tuesday at a local nursing center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at the University Church of Christ with Dr. Eddie Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Belton. She attended Abilene Christian University and Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. She was the widow of R.L. Roberts Jr., whom she married on May 30, 1946 in Belton. She had worked as a clerk at Abilene Christian University for 19 years and was recognized as the Outstanding Staff Member for school year 1991-92. She was a member of the University Church of Christ and Women of ACU. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Garner Roberts of Abilene, Dwight Alan Roberts of Austin, and Dr. John Paul Roberts of San Antonio; one daughter, Carol Anne Campbell of Flower Mound; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robin D. Booher

Robin D. Booher, 43, died Wednesday in a local hospital following an auto accident.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at Elm Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Heinze officiating. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. M.D.T. Friday, July 30 in Tatum Cemetery in Tatum, N.M., directed by Abilene Funeral Home.

Mr. Booher was born in Portales, N.M. and graduated from Los Lunas High School. He had lived in the Abilene area since 1988. He worked as a plant operations technician for Hendrick Medical Center. He was a member of Elm Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, R.W. Booher of Normangee; two daughters, Tiffany Booher and Stephanie Booher of Albuquerque; his parents, Wayne Booher of El Paso and Jo Ann Duncan of Tatum, N.M.; three brothers, Ted Booher of Deer Park, Rusty Booher of Brownwood, and Danny Booher of Aztec, N.M.; and one sister, Vicki Saunders of Bloomfield, N.M.

Reece Mitchell

NASHVILLE, TENN. - Reece Mitchell, 55, a missionary for 25 years in Buenos Aires, Argentina sponsored by the University Church of Christ Activity Center in Abilene, has died.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today at the University Church of Christ with Eddie Sharp officiating. Woodbine Funeral Home of Nashville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jacquie Mitchell; daughters, Laura Tepner and Karen Mitchell; sons, Jeffrey Mitchell and Marcus Mitchell; three grandchildren; three sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the University Church of Christ in Abilene.

Memorials may be made to the Buenos Aires Children's Ministry Fund, c/o University Church of Christ, 733 E. North 16th, Abilene, TX 79601.

Teresa Dean Jones

FREEPORT - Teresa Dean Jones, 43, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at Restwood Cemetery with Charlie Rabon officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Clifton Jones; one son, William Shawn Jones; one daughter, Melissa Irene Jones; two brothers, Jackie DeWayne Wilson of Pleasanton and Billy Gene Wilson Jr. of Clyde; her sister, Shiela Irene Croft of Freeport; and her mother, Geraldine Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gordon Barnes

BLACKWELL - Gordon Barnes, 76, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with the Rev. Orvel Brantley officiating. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born in Cisco and was a 1941 graduate of Winters High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Ramona Alderman of Jan. 11, 1948 in San Angelo. He moved to Blackwell from Abilene in 1962. He worked as cabinet maker at Custom Kraft Cabinet in Abilene. He was a rural mail carrier from 1968 until retiring in 1987. He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife of Blackwell; and one niece and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to donor's favorite charity.

Marion H. 'Bud' Hicks Jr.

ROCHESTER - Marion H. "Bud" Hicks Jr. died Tuesday in a Haskell clinic.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Rochester First Baptist Church with the Revs. Truett Kuenstler and Ed Buerkle and Sister Kathryn Byrd officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.

Mr. Hicks was born in Knox City and lived most of his life in Rochester. He was a 1972 graduate of Rochester High School. He graduated from Texas Tech University and worked for the State of Texas in the Department of Regulatory Services, Adult Protective Services in the Haskell office. He served on the Rochester City Council and was a member of the Rochester First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Lillian Hicks of Rochester; one brother, John M. Hicks of Rochester; one sister, Martha Ann McDaniel of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.

Herschel Freeland

BROWNWOOD - Herschel Freeland, 90, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Mr. Freeland was born in Hubbard and had lived in Brownwood since 1926. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Lougenia Jones on July 27, 1936 in Brownwood. He was a retired Service Manager for Weatherby Motor Company and was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of Brownwood; two sons, James H. "Jim" Freeland of Fort Worth and Tom Freeland of Brownwood; one daughter, Jane West of Brownwood; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Opal Crownover

Opal Crownover, 90, died Sunday at a local nursing center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Elmwood Memorial Park with Bob Weissinger officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mrs. Crownover was born in Jones County and moved to Abilene as a child. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended Simmons College, now known as Hardin-Simmons University. She was the widow of J.C. Crownover, former director and vice president of WTU. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, and a member of the Abilene Woman's Club and of Hendrick Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Jim Crownover of Lewisville; one daughter, Carol Young of Baton Rouge, La.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
