James "Jim" Meschwitz
James “Jim” Meschwitz, age 64 of Austin and formerly of Brenham, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 surrounded by family. Surviving loving family includes: wife, Cynthia Meschwitz of Austin; mother, Mary Meschwitz of Brenham; children, Megan Voelkel and husband Beau of Brenham, Billy Jalowy and wife Donna of Brenham, Vickie Reynolds of Austin; grandchildren, Emalee Archer, Cody Reynolds, Aaron Surrett and special friend Paige Hand, Kyle Powers and special friend Taylor Smith, Brandon Surrett and special friend Chelsey Harmon, Clay Jalowy; and brother, Gene Meschwitz of Brenham. Visitation with the Meschwitz family will be this evening from 5-7 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial for Jim Meschwitz will be held Tuesday, December 1st at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ernesto Elizondo as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, American Cancer Society or Hospice Brazos Valley.Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer, Brenham, TX 77833. 979.836.3611.

Mildred Lilly (Ahrens) Franklin
Mildred Lilly (Ahrens) Franklin, 89, widow of Don Stephen Franklin, died November 25, 2015 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Lindy Franklin, and a daughter, Ann Franklin, all of Houston; grandchildren: Reese Franklin and wife Melany, Seth Franklin, and Brooks Franklin; a great-grandchild, Conor Franklin; brother, Herman Ahrens, Jr. of Brenham; sisters Helen Nienstedt of Brenham, and Mary Winkelmann of Lufkin. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mrs. Franklin was predeceased by her husband, Don Stephen Franklin; her parents, Herman and Lydia Ahrens; brothers: Bill, Lee, Harry, and Irwin Ahrens; sisters: Lilly Spreen, Laverne Vash, Hilda Tegeler, and Alice Rust. Funeral arrangements for Mildred Lilly Franklin are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.

Otto Heidemann, Jr.
Otto Heidemann, Jr., 81, died November 22, 2015 in Brenham. Funeral services for Mr. Heidemann are scheduled for 10:00am, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matthew Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Wehdem. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00pm Tuesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Otto Heidemann, Jr. was born April 5, 1934 in Washington County to Otto Sr. and Esther Kaase Heidemann. He was baptized in 1934 at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Retired from the construction business, and Mr. Heidemann was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham. Survivors include daughter Linda Meyer and friend, Robert Knight, and Sheryl Stegent and husband Floyd, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Wendy Meyer, Ashley Thompson and husband Eric, Eric Stegent, and Jacob Stegent; great-grandchildren: Jaiden Meyer, Kaylin Meyer, and Nicholas Meyer; brother, Louis Heidemann of Brenham; sisters Ruby Kubeczka and husband Johnnie of Brenham; Janet Mills of Brenham, and Glendeen Roemer of Houston. Mr. Heidemann was preceded in death by his parents, uncles, a brother-in-law and a nephew. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements for Otto Heidemann, Jr. are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Franklin Clarence Effenberger
Franklin Clarence Effenberger (87) of Brenham, Texas celebrated his Heavenly homecoming on Monday, January 11, 2016 at home in Brenham, Texas. He is survived by Brother, Donald and Barbara Effenberger of Sequin, TX., Sister, Marcia Russell of San Antonio, TX., sister-in-law, Shirlene Steen of Arlington, TX.; His nephew's family that has provided for his care: Nathan and Julie Steen and their children: Kimberly, Ryan and Jillian of Brenham, TX. Other nieces and nephews include: Joe and Teresa Steen Corbet of Arlington, TX., John and Cathy Herzog Davis of Martindale, TX., George and Glenda Steen Gandy of Arlington, TX., Vernon and Sharon Steen Garner of Arlington, TX., Alan Ray Herzog of Thorndale, TX., Michael Herzog of Brenham, TX., Jerry and Lisa Steen McElvoy of Mansfield, TX., Royce and Kayla Meyer of Lewisville, TX., Blaine Russell of San Antonio, TX., Deana Russell of San Antonio, TX., Gary and Misti Steen of Jersey Village, TX., Ricky Steen of Arlington, TX., Russell and Rhonda Steen of Houston, TX., Steve and Beverly Meyer Stewart of Graham, TX. Many great-nieces and nephews. Many friends including Darlene Blondeau of Brenham, TX., and the many members at Greenvine Baptist Church and AMA Heathcare providers, especially Joyce Pribilski. Franklin was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Katie Steen Effenberger; his parents, Frank W and Martha Gerum Effenberger; his sister, June Effenberger Cochran; His brother/sister-in-laws: Lucille Steen Meyer (and her husband Harold), Glenn Steen, William Steen (and William’s wife, Ruth Steen), Gladys Steen, and Alice Steen Herzog (and her husband, Ted Herzog). Funeral Services for Franklin will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 10:30 am at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham, Texas. Interment will be at Greenvine Baptist Cemetery located at 5010 FM 2502, Burton, Texas. Visitation will be January 16 at 9:00am - 10:30am at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral arrangements are being made by Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorial donation can be made to Greenvine Baptist Church or Brenham Children Chorus. Verlyn Marie (Schulze) Finke
Verlyn Marie (Schulze) Finke, 76, of Brenham, loving wife of Onis Finke, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2016 in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00am, Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main in Brenham. Survivors include her husband, Onis Finke of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Pam Finke of Brenham, and Rodney and Jill Finke of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Steve Folsom of Brenham; grandchildren: Brent Folsom and special friend Jenny Bilski, Clay Finke, Bryan Folsom and wife Haley, Bradley Folsom and special friend Jenna Krebs, Ryan Finke and Grant Finke; great-grandchild Hunter Folsom, and soon-to-be-born Folsom twins; sisters Elvera Janner, Ruth Duvall and husband Clyde (Hank); sisters-in-law; Lorna Finke, Joy Finke and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leonard and Sandra Finke, and Eva and Gene Supak. Additional survivors are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Emma Schulze, parents-in-law Fritz and Lena Finke; brothers-in-law Raymond Finke, Earl Abke, Ivan Finke, and Milton Janner, and sister-in-law, Irene Abke. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements for Verlyn Marie Finke are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.

Emilie Wilhelmine Faske
(June 10, 1911 - September 16, 2011)
Funeral services for Emilie Faske, 100 of Giddings, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner, Rev. Keith Aschenbeck and Rev. Herb Keistman officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday, September 19, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Faske family will be present for visitation Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Faske passed away the morning of Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Country Care Plex in Giddings.
Emilie Wilhelmine Unger Faske was born on June 10, 1911 in Giddings, Texas the daughter of Ernest Ferdinand Unger & Helena Emma (Berger) Kappler Unger. She was baptized on June 25, 1911 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer and confirmed on April 5, 1925 also at Immanuel by Rev. Fischer. Her confirmation verse was John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." Emilie was united in marriage to Willie C. Faske on November 13, 1932 at Immanuel Lutheran by Rev. G.W. Fischer. They were lifelong members of the Lutheran church and were members of the congregations of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings and Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim during their marriage. She enjoyed helping around the farm, gardening and sharing all of the good things it produced. She also enjoyed making noodles and coffee cake for her children and grandchildren and was always ready to play a game of 42 or straight dominoes.
Emilie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Olga Richter and Hermine Mutschink; brother, Fred Unger; half-sister, Esther (Kappler) Faske; half-brother, Charley Kappler and a granddaughter-in-law, Julie Faske.
She is survived by her sons, Leroy & Madeline Faske of Giddings and Harold & Judy Faske of Manheim; grandchildren, David & Lisa Faske of Pflugerville, Mark & Sandra Faske of Lago Vista, Steve & Jodie Faske of Bastrop, Barbara & Steve Siegwalt of Austin, Bill & Marcie Faske of Snyder, Edith & William Courter of Charlotte, NC and Kevin & Heather Faske of Sugarland as well as several great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Faske, Marcus Faske, Steven Faske, William Faske, Kevin Faske, Steve Siegwalt and Mason Courter.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, the Lutheran Hour, Christ Our Cornerstone at Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Braille Center #163.

Ora Nell Tiemann
Ora Nell Tiemann, 84, died January 11, 2016 in Brenham. Mrs. Tiemann was born June 2, 1931 in Brenham to Walter A. and Selma Breddin Hahn. Baptized May 29, 1932 at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin, she was confirmed there on Sept. 24, 1944. On Dec. 5, 1948, she was married to Clamens Tiemann, Sr. at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Clamens Jr. and Virginia Tiemann, and Jimmy and Cheryl Tiemann, all of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and David Wieghat, also of Brenham; grandchildren: Amy Jentsch, Jessica Bram and Jason, Jared Tiemann and Codylyn; Jennifer Beaudet and Ryan; Ashley Wieghat, Catherine Sommerfield and Eric.; great-grandchildren: Lane Hart, Jake, Brady and Cooper Bram, Aydn Tiemann, Colleen Beaudet, and Holly Sommerfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clamens Tiemann, Sr.; parents, Walter A. and Selma Hahn; and a granddaughter, Madeliene Lynette Tiemann. Funeral services for Ora Nell Tiemann are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will take place in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral arrangements for Ora Nell Tiemann are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Melvin Krause
Melvin Krause, 80, of Brenham, husband of Charlyn Krause, passed away January 10, 2016 in Brenham. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Ernesto Elizondo, Officiant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Charlyn Krause of Brenham; son, Doyle Krause and wife Judy of Bleiblerville; daughter-in-law Claudia Appelt and husband Mark of Brenham; grandsons Derek Krause and wife Emilee of Frisco; Carson Krause and Garett Krause of Bleiblerville; sister and brother-in-law Verlyne and August Aschenbeck, Jr. of Shelby. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dale Krause, on January 13, 1986. Funeral arrangements for Melvin Krause are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.

Eddie Charles Zibilski
Eddie Charles Zibilski was born on October 27, 1920 on a farm near Burton to Wilhelm (Willie) and Minnie Herms Zibilski. He passed away on January 9, 2016 in Brenham. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister (Alma) and two brothers (Willie and Albert), Eddie is survived by nieces: Rosa Lee Williams, Jeanette Newton, Mary Woodson, Susan Adams and Patricia Holland and a nephew, Edward Zibilski. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. Internment will be at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Funeral arrangements for Eddie Charles Zibilski are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.

Sylvia Tietjen Mertz
Sylvia Tietjen Mertz was the youngest child born to Anton and Ella Schulze Tietjen in 1924 on a farm in Rutersville Texas. She lived with her parents for over 40 years, assisting with farm and tending to their care until their death. Valedictorian of her high school class in 1942, she began her career at the title company, moving to the law offices of Oeltjen & Schovajsa until her retirement in 1992. In 1966, she bought her home in La Grange, soon thereafter, met Claude Mertz, who became her husband and best friend of 48 years. Sylvia was a member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann, the VFW Auxiliary, and St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was predeceased by her brother, Anton, and sister, Esther. She is survived by husband, Claude and numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews, including James, Donald, and Clay Tietjen. A visitation will be held from Noon until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange with interment to follow at the La Grange City Cemetery.

Myrtle Marie Grabarschick
Myrtle Marie Grabarschick, 92, of Brenham, died on January 1, 2016. She was the widow of Willie Grabarschick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. from the Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Walt Schindehette and Pastor Mark Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be, Monday, January 4, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. She is Survived by her son Robert William Grabarschick, Grandchildren: Jennifer Grabarschick of Houston, Robert William Jr. and wife Molly of Brenham, Laura Grabarschick of Houston, and William Grabarschick of Brenham, Great Grandchildren: Taylor and Logan Grabarschick. Sister: Dorothy Schulenberg of Burton, Texas. Also survived by Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Funeral services for Myrtle Grabarschick are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel. 1306 W. Main St. Brenham 979-836-4564.
