Billy Roy Els
(October 6, 1947 - January 9, 2012)
Billy Roy Els was born on October 6, 1947 in Ledbetter, Texas to Frank Herman & Erna Ella (Stork) Els. He graduated from Giddings High School and married Joan (Joanie) Weidemann on February 22, 1969 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. Billy was a "jack-of-all-trades" and did everything. He did metal work for farm, ranch and commercial construction. He enjoyed ranching, fishing and hunting (most of all trapping wild hogs). Billy loved to work and build and make things. Above all he loved his family (especially his grandkids), his horses and his close friends. He passed away the afternoon of Monday, January 9, 2012 at his home in Ledbetter.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bobby Els and David Els.
He is survived by his wife Joanie Els of Ledbetter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy & Donnie Turner of Ledbetter and B.J. & Heath Alford of Ledbetter; five grandchildren, Dusti Marburger, Dylan Marburger, Delaney Turner, Raci Alford and Koi Alford all of Ledbetter; aunt, Bernice Mueller of Carmine; brother, Glenn & Pearlie Els of Ledbetter; five sisters, Shirley Hart of West Columbia, Marilyn & Mel Lebo of Katy, Peggy Simmang of Richmond, Sharon & Otis Proske of Ledbetter and Katy & Mack McCoy of Brazoria; brother-in-law, Jack & Bobbie Weidemann of Ledbetter as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, January 13, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Els family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steven "Tick" Lehmann, Pete Arreola, Joah Weidemann, Jordan Weidemann, Glenn Els and Lynn Lehmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Lindner, Timothy Smith, Alan Roberts, Dylan Marburger, Heath Alford, Donnie Turner, Steve Simmang and Claude Kuemple.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 North Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945.

W. E. “Bill” Whiddon
W. E. “Bill” Whiddon age 83 of Chappell Hill and the husband of Dorothy Whiddon passed away Monday, January 6, 2014. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday, January 9 with services held at 11 am, Friday, January 10 both in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Being a life-long resident of Chappell Hill, he was a cattle rancher and owned Bill Whiddon Real Estate. He was actively involved in the community serving as a member of the Independent Cattleman’s Association, Chappell Hill V.F.D., served two terms on the Brenham ISD school board, and most recently along with other Washington County property owners championed for local water rights. Bill Whiddon’s loving family includes wife Dorothy, son William Whiddon Jr., son and daughter-in-law Johnnie and Carol Whiddon, daughter and son-in-law Terri and Eric Ellison and son Robert Whiddon; grandchildren Garrett, Nolan, and Mitchell Ellison, Ryan (wife Aimee) Ladewig, Angela (husband Jim) Baker, Luke Ladewig, Janna Haevischer (husband Ryan); numerous great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Jean (husband Ben) Rogge; nieces Karen McClure (husband Dave), Kay (husband Steve) Theede. Memorials may be given to Washington County E.M.S. or charity of choice. Services are in the care of Brenham memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX 979.836.3611.

Wella Mae Laura Hinze Behnke
Wella Mae Laura Hinze Behnke, 91, of Carmine, died peacefully on January 6, 2014 at GazeboTerraceConvalescentCenter in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2014 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, with Pastor David Tinker officiating. Burial will be in La Bahia Cemetery. Mrs. Behnke will lie in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. She will lie in state at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday morning, with visitation to take place from 5 until 7 p.m. at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Survivors include daughters Lana and Wilkens Aschenbeck, and Karen and Tony Dooley; son and daughter-in-law Frederick (Freddie) and Sharon Behnke; grandchildren: Tracy and husband Darren Weishuhn, Jo and husband James Pflughaupt, Paul Aschenbeck and wife Carrie, Todd Dooley and wife Amy, Blake Dooley and wife Amber, Bryn Behnke and wife Sara, Jill and husband Joey Wallace; 11 great-grandchildren: Jacob Pflughaupt, Riley and Ryndee Weishuhn, Evan, Eric, and Ethan Aschenbeck, Brody and Bree Dooley, Summer Dooley, Luke Behnke, Kinsley Wallace and another great-grandchild expected in June; sister, Verlie Wegner of Burton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law; three brothers and their wives: Elmo and Annie Hinze, Wayland and Myrtle Hinze, Delphine and Rosalee Hinze; sister and her husband, Leola and Ernest Althaus; brother-in-law Edward Wegner and brother-in-law Lorenz Behnke and wife, Myra. Memorials may be directed to Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, or to any favorite charity. Funeral arrangements for Wella Mae Behnke are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Deborah A. “Debbi” Kirkland
Deborah A. “Debbi” Kirkland, 63, wife of Paul Kirkland, died Aug. 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Bryan, Texas. After suffering the last several years of kidney failure, Debbi is now at peace. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Brenham Church of Christ, with Dr. Doug Hall officiating. Survivors include her daughters Victoria Gurka and husband Jerry of Chappell Hill, Texas; Sylvia Goode and special friend Michael of Punta Gorda, FL, and Heather Pond of Chappell Hill; grandchildren: Christine Bennett, Jeremy Gurka, Shanon Pond, Nicholas Pond, Courtney Turrin, and Cori Gurka; great-grandchild L. J. Baker; brothers and sisters-in-law Ray and Dee Smith of Pt. Charlotte, Florida, and Mark and Terry Smith of New Boston, MI. Other surviving relatives are sisters-in-law Debbie Kirkland, Wynona Tullos, and Shirley Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law Roma Kirkland, Wendell Kirkland, Charles Kirkland, and mother-in-law Thedolia Kirkland. at Liberty Dialysis. Melvin Otto Kelm
Melvin Otto Kelm, age 100, was called home to his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Melvin is survived by his wife of 77 years, Ruby and one sister, Gladys Wilhelmsen; daughter Mary Lee Crump and husband, Troy; son, Thomas Wayne Kelm and wife, Peggy; son, Charles Andrew Kelm and wife, Patricia; daughter Jo Lynn Davis and husband, Steve. He is also survived by grandchildren: Julie Campos and husband, Steve; Matthew Kelm and wife, Robin; Lauren Haevischer and husband, Darren; Marian Eckert and husband, Michael; Mitchell Davis and wife, Aubrey; Elliott Davis and significant other Larissa Green; Payton Kelm, Great-grandchildren: Cara Campos, Colin Campos, Eva Kelm, Simone Kelm, Laityn Davis, Chet Eckert and Hudson Eckert and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Caroline Kammerer Kelm, grandson, Joshua Ian Kelm, brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Florence Kelm; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Karl Duerr; sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Bob Legan; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Edna Kelm; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Rosalie Kelm, brother-in-law, Henry Wilhelmsen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lespa and Adeline Landua, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, R. Funeral services celebrating Melvin’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, 305 West Third Street, Brenham, Texas, with Pastor Phil Fenton and Pastor Kindlee Lund officiating. Burial to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham. Funeral arrangements for Melvin Otto Kelm are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Evelyn Mae Rodiek
Evelyn Mae Rodiek, 90 of Brenham, died August 1, 2014. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham, with Pastor Matthew Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Betty Ann and Martin Wiesepape Jr. of Brenham, son and daughter-in-law: Arthur K. and Melinda Rodiek of Bellville, grandchildren: Debbie Genz, Mark Wiesepape and wife, Kristin, Grant Rodiek and fiancée Bethany Wan of San Francisco, Ca, Dylan Rodiek and wife Morgane of Yoakum, TX, and great-grandchildren: Stacy Genz, McKenna Wiesepape, Samantha Wiesepape, Garrett Wiesepape, Ella Wiesepape, Ayden Wiesepape, and Riese Wiesepape, Zoe and Claire Rodiek and numerous other relatives and friends. Delphine Henry (Del) Schulz

Delphine Henry “Del” Schulz, 76, of Brenham, died June 22, 2004, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mr. Schulz was born April 2, 1928, in the Welcome community of Austin County, Texas, to Walter A. and Ophilia Thielemann Schulz. He was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome. Mr. Schulz attended Welcome school, was a graduate of Brenham High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler.
After serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, Mr. Schulz retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1973 as a chief master sergeant. He also retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On June 23, 1951, he married Betty Jo Murdock in Grapeland, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1998.
On May 1, 1999, he was married to Helen Louise Poehlmann Mikeska in Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome.
Mr. Schulz was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Schulz of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Schulz of Friendswood; daughters, Deana Alexander of Creston, California, and fiancé Bruce Breault, and Susan and Paige McLain of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Verlyn and Charles Mosley of Brenham; grandchildren, Rachel and Lance Sparks, Jessica Schulz, Stacy Schulz, Alyssa Schulz, Kyle Kauffman, Erick Kauffman, Leisa and Rick Pretti, Brian and Laticia Signorelli, Megan Signorelli, Bret Signorelli, Brooke Chronister, and Taylor McLain; stepchildren and their spouses, Theresa and Ray Rodenbeck, John and Dana Mikeska and Charles and Hertha Mikeska, all of Brenham; eight great-grandchildren; 7 stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Jo Murdock Schulz; brother, Walter A. Schulz; two grandchildren, Lindsey Schulz and Chad Kauffman; half brother, Leroy Schulz; and half sister, Peggy Whiddon; and a stepson, Michael Mikeska.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25 in Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome with Pastor Jason Korthauer officiating.
The graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday in Guiceland Cemetery in Salmon, Texas.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, in Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mr. Schulz’ grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome, Brazos Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.

Josephine Frances Pavlica Cronk
Born in Anadarko, OK on Sep. 30, 1923
Departed on Jun. 23, 2004 and resided in Brenham, TX.
Service: Friday Jun. 25, 2004
Josephine Frances Cronk, 80, of Brenham, died June 23, 2004, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
Mrs. Cronk was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to John and Josephine Roller Pavlica. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Walt Moffett of Brenham; grandchildren, Mike Marino, Marc Marino, Lacey Moffett and Ronni Moffett; and sisters, Blanch Taylor of San Antonio and Christine of the Rio Grande Valley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Matland, Jr., on Feb. 20, 1973; her second husband, George Robert Cronk, on Aug. 17, 1982; and her daughter, Jackie Mae Marno, on Jan. 7, 2002.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 25 in Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
