Josephine Sulski,

Josephine Sulski, age 80, of rural Oxford, Wisconsin, died peacefully Thursday, June 19, 2008 at her residence.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Brooks, Wisconsin with Father James McNamee celebrating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery next to the church. Visitation will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Monday from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Josephine was born August 5, 1927 in Lodz, Poland, the daughter of Jozef and Maria (Blonska) Majewscy. During World War 2, at the age of 15, she was taken prisoner by the Germans. Her life was spared from the holocaust by a German soldier that warned her to not take a shower with the others. After hiding and truly surviving she worked on the farms of the death camps. When the Allied forces liberated the prisoners she eventually worked for the Americans and she had the privilege of serving General Eisenhower. Josephine fondly recalled to her family that he even gave her candy. In 1948 she married Jerry Sulski in Holland where 3 of their children were born. In 1956 they moved to Louisiana in America and a year later relocated to Chicago. They retired from Chicago in 1992 to McGinnis Lake near Oxford where they have lived since. Josephine loved cats; gardening and flowers; she was proud of her lakefront home and most important were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Josephine is survived by her husband, Jerry; son, George (Michelle) Sulski of Lisle, Illinois; daughters, Irene (Leonard) Lanni of Riverside, Illinois, Sophie Sulski of Crestwood, Illinois and Teresa LeClercq of Lisle; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Alfred LeClercq; 6 brothers and an infant sister.

Steven Routson

Steve Routson, age 58, of Oxford, Wisconsin, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his residence.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Oxford Funeral Home in Oxford.

Steven was born January 1, 1950. Steve was raised by his parents William and Caroll Contell in Des Moines, Iowa where he attended Lincoln High School, and later went to Drake University. In his 3rd year of college Steve enlisted in the Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Steve was employed at the Oxford Prison for 22 years, retiring in 2000.

Steve is survived by his sons, Chad (Carrie) Routson of Reedsburg, Eric (Deann) Routson of Portage, Adam (Jolene) Routson of Pardeeville, a brother Dave (Marg) Routson of Minnesota and his 5 grandchildren, Cohl, Madison, Alyssa, Ashlyn, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sonia Raab

Sonia (Urbick) Raab, age 53 of Oxford, Wisconsin passed away Monday, August 25, 2008 in the comfort of her own home with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Oxford Funeral Home in Oxford with Pastor Mike Gormican officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Sonia was born in Arcadia, Wisconsin the daughter of Lambert and Clarice (Bjorge) Urbick. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1973. On February 22, 1975, Sonia was united in marriage to Richard Raab. Sonia loved sewing for her daughters and traveling, and she is now on her new eternal life adventures.

Sonia is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Richard "Dick" and daughters, Crystal (Joshua) Thays of Madison, Wisconsin and Jennifer Raab of Oxford; sisters, Joyce Moe and Betty Jane Knutson both of Arcadia and Sharon (Bob) Byrne of Trempealeau, Wisconsin; brothers, Larry (Jan) Urbick of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Roger Urbick of Whitehall, Wisconsin and Lambert "Herbie" (Sally) Urbick of Trempealeau; granddaughter, Roz Thays, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brother-in-law, Howard Knutson and a nephew, Robert Byrne.

Richard "Dick" Karolus

Richard “Dick” Karolus, age 77, of Oxford, Wisconsin died Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the comfort of his own home with his loving family by his side following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oxford with Reverend Brian Rohde officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Village Cemetery with military rites provided by the Neenah Valley Memorial VFW Post 6003 of Oxford. Visitation will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday from 11 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.

Dick was born September 17, 1930 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Edward and Esther (Hass) Karolus. He graduated from Dundee Community High School in 1948. In February of 1951 he married Dolores Pearson in Dundee. He was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps in September of 1951 and was honorably discharged in September of 1953 as a corporal. Dick began a career with law enforcement as the town constable in West Dundee, Illinois in 1955 and was promoted to chief of police in 1957 and remained until 1971. He worked for a security service for a short time and returned to law enforcement as an officer with the Barrington Hills police department until 1975. From 1975 until he retired in 1989 from the Hebron, Illinois police department he served as the police chief. Following retirement, Dick and Dolores moved to rural Oxford. As a sign of commitment to public service, Dick agreed to participate as a candidate for sheriff in Kane and McHenry Counties. He had been a West Dundee village trustee from 1971 to 1975 and in Oxford he served as an elder on the church board.

Richard is survived by his wife, Dolores; a daughter, Nancy (Barry) Phillips of Island Park, Idaho; sons, Mark (Donna) of Spring Grove, Illinois, Adam (Julie) of Dekalb, Illinois and Dale (Penny) of Wonder Lake, Illinois; a brother, Dr. Henry (Donna) of West Dundee; and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kyle.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or the Oxford Area Fire District.

LeRoy Johnson

LeRoy George Johnson, age 71, of Oxford, Wisconsin, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at the Oxford Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Amberg officiating. LeRoy is being put to rest in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Oxford Funeral Home on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 3:00 P.M.

LeRoy was born March 17, 1937 in Warrens, WI, the son of William and Hazel (Butterfield) Johnson. He was the fourth of nine children. He married Sharon Dinger on December 30th, 1957 in Decorah, IA. They were married for 50 years. He drove truck all over the United States for over 50 years and retired in 1997. He then began working for Europlast in Endeavor, WI until May of 2006. LeRoy enjoyed being outdoors. He spent most of his time working on his saw mill, gardening, cutting wood and having coffee with his friends. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Oxford; son, Wayne of Endeavor; daughters, Sandy (Kevin) Johnson Neshkoro, WI, Cheryl (Vic) King of Wisconsin Dells, WI and Carol (Scott) Flowers of Mauston; WI; mother, Hazel Knight of Salina, KS; brothers, Raymond Johnson of Oregon, WI and Richard (Louise) Johnson of Fond du Lac, WI; sisters, Janet (Charlie) Van Kirk of Cheyenne, WY, Esther Stenulson of Milwaukee, WI and Lois Holub of Salina; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Duane and John, and his sister, Barbara Zillmer.

Jimmie Lanier

Jimmie Lanier, age 74, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of funeral service at 11 A.M. at Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Milwaukee with Reverend Steven Corbett officiating.

Jimmie was born July 14, 1934 in Columbus County, North Carolina, the son of Isaac and Martha (Worley) Lanier. In 1950 he married Edith Payne in South Carolina. He worked for many years at the Wisconsin Paper Board in Milwaukee. Following retirement in 1991 he and Edith moved to Jordan Lake just north of Wisconsin Dells. Jimmie loved fishing and using handtools especially to make crafts like bird houses.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Edith; son, Jimmy Dean (Debra) Lanier of Milwaukee; daughter, Sheila (Larry) Hewett of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; a sister, Annie (Marvin) Hagan of Whiteville, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory; brothers, Rossie, Nubert and Bernie; and sisters, Reba and Allie.

Michael Goodhue, Sr.

Michael Goodhue, Sr., age 49, of Oxford, Wisconsin, died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage, Wisconsin after becoming ill at work at the Federal Correctional Institution near Oxford.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Oxford Funeral Home in Oxford with Chaplain Elizabeth Liebenstein officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Village Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M.

Michael was born January 9, 1959 in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Myron and Shelby (Galbraith) Goodhue. He graduated from Westfield High School and then attended UW-Madison where he received his B.S. Degree in education and sociology. On October 4, 1985 Michael married Linda Hankel in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Michael and Linda were happily married for 23 years. Since 1985 Michael has worked for the federal correction system beginning as a correctional officer for the first 4 years and following as a case worker. He worked at Oxford from 1985 to 1989, at Safford, Arizona from 1989 to 1991, at Lebanon, Pennsylvania from 1991 to 1994, at Pekin, Illinois from 1994 to 2000 and returned to Oxford since 2000. Michael was a member of the Oxford Lions Club, enjoyed hunting and fishing, liked 4 wheeling with his brothers and he especially loved spending time with family and above all with his wife, children, grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Nala “Fatty Goodhue, my huntin’, fishin’, fightin’ dog.”

Michael is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Jason Nelson of Portage and Michael Goodhue, Jr. of Oxford; daughters, Michelle “Daddy’s Girl” and Kayla “Daddy’s Little Tiny Girl” both of Oxford; mother, Shelby (Karl) Schulz of Westfield, Wisconsin; brothers, Gregory (Sue) and Mark “Mooch” both of Oxford; sisters, Debra (Gary) Gardner of Westfield, Myra “Jeanie” (Tom) Wastart of Oxford and Vicki (Larry) Coffey of Monroe, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nico and Skylar; nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations for an educational fund for the children would be appreciated.

Gerald "Jerry" Brummel

Gerald “Jerry” Brummel, age 75, of Oxford, Wisconsin, formerly of Watertown, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Friday, October 24, 2008 at his residence.

Memorial funeral services followed by full military honors will be held Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. at the Neenah Valley Memorial V.F.W. Post 6003, N3250 1st Drive, Oxford, WI 53952. Visitation with the family greeting relatives and friends will be held at the Neenah Valley Memorial V.F.W. Post 6003 on Sunday from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2:30 P.M.

Jerry was born on October 29, 1932 to the late Andrew and Helen (Kammes) Brummel. He was raised and attended school in Naperville, Illinois. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was promoted to the rank of sergeant while serving with the 7th Infantry Division on the Korean front as a tank crewman. He wore the Korean Service Ribbon with three campaign stars and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious duty.

In October of 1953 he married Marjorie Herrmann. Together they farmed in Illinois, and the Watertown area and raised 10 children. He was a member of the Watertown Jaycees, Catholic Knights of Columbus, the Richwood VFW and a volunteer fireman for the Town of Shields. In 1965 he was named Watertown’s Outstanding Young Farmer. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6003 of Oxford. He enjoyed bowling, a good game of cards, and playing harmonica.

Jerry is survived by his children, David (Sandra) of Hudson, Wisconsin, Daniel (Julie) of McFarland, Wisconsin, Howard (Melissa) of Woodstock, Georgia, Linda (Gregg) Grimm of West Bend, Wisconsin, Kenneth (Dawn) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Edward (Sharon) of Middleton, Wisconsin, James (Kimberly) of River Falls, Wisconsin, Joseph (RoAnna) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Anita (Adam) Marlett of Omro, Wisconsin and Angela of Madison, Wisconsin; 25 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He is further survived by his sisters, Dorothy White, Mildred Wolsfeld, Pauline Meuhlfelt, Geraldine Klenda (Jerry’s twin) and Janice (Sal) Ferreri; brothers, Arthur (Rita), Norman (Jean), and Irvin (Sandy). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Brummel; sisters, Edith Stark and Marie White, and a brother, Floyd.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
