WAUKON, Iowa - Norma J. Mellick, 69, died Thursday, October 2, 1997 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3:30 p.m. scripture service.

Gary R. Ohotto
HOLMEN, Wis. - Gary R. Ohotto, 44, of Holmen died Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia C. Schumann
ELROY, Wis. - Virginia C. Schumann, 59, of Elroy died Wednesday, October 1, 1997 in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital at Hillsboro. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 4, 1997, 11 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kendall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home in Kendall on Friday from 4 until 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. A prayer service will be held on Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jennie Adella Sass
WAUKON, Iowa - Jennie A. Sass, 89, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4th at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Friends can call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Walter George Kumpf
EITZEN, Minn. - Walter George Kumpf, 86, of Eitzen, Minn., passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Caledonia, Minn. Burial will be in St. John's Methodist Cemetery, Dorchester, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, Minn., Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Clara E. Ellis
Clara E. Ellis, 91, of 430 Caledonia St., La Crosse, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, in her home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1906, in Glasgow Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota, to Lawrence and Mary (Schiertz) Wagner. On Aug. 3, 1926, she married Lansing Ellis in St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, Minnesota. During the early years she worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills, the Button Factory and in the millinery department at Doerflingers.
Clara was a loving housewife to her husband for 62 years until his death in June of 1989. She enjoyed being active in many organizations as well. She was a member and at time an officer in the Milwaukee Railroad Women's Club, the WWTC Homemakers Club and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was also on the parish council while a parishioner at St. John the Baptist and St. James the Less Catholic Church. Clara enjoyed volunteering, working in the north side voting booth on election days and helping deliver mobile meals.
Clara is survived by her godson, nieces and nephews, grand and great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers, aunts and uncles, several nieces, a grandnephew and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at 11 a.m. at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., with the Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Roger J. Scheckel will officiate with burial in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. James the Less Catholic Church or the Gundersen Lutheran Home Care Services in La Crosse.
The Blaschke Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Ann Ward Garlow
HARPERS FERRY, Iowa - Ann Ward Garlow, 95, of Harpers Ferry, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Interment in St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church. Scripture reading at 7:30 p.m. Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rex G. Dunlap
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Rex G. Dunlap, 80, of West Salem, died Thursday, October 2, 1997, at Franciscan-Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born December 20, 1916, in rural West Salem, to Fred and Mary Dunlap. On December 27, 1938, he married Irene M. Bruemmer in West Salem. Rex was employed at Art Herman Implement and Appliance in West Salem for 19 years. He then worked at Camp McCoy in refrigeration and air conditioning and later continued that profession as a civil service employee in Milwaukee and Fort Sheridan until his retirement. Rex was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, West Salem. He was also a member of the West Salem Volunteer Fire Department and had served as fire chief.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; nine children, Lloyd Bruemmer of Billings, Mont., Willard (Audrey) Dunlap of Albuquerque, N.M., Willis (Beverly) Dunlap of Billings, Mont., Marlin (Sharon) Dunlap of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sharon (Gary) Weaver of Kenosha, Wis., Betty Bahr of Holmen, Wis., George (Sandra) Dunlap of La Grange-Highlands, Ill., Raymond Dunlap of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jean (Thomas) Godfroy of Watertown, Wis.; ten grandchildren, Wayne (Diane) Bruemmer, Kristine (Stephen) Wade, Marlo Dunlap, Sherrie (Steven) Pryse, Michael Seidel, Jeffery (Janet) Bahr, Jason (Kelley) Bahr, Johnathon (Amy) Bahr, Eric Dunlap and Todd Dunlap; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Nona Mae (Leslie) Chalsma of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Ralph (Ruby) Dunlap of Mount Horeb, Wis.; and one half-brother, Robert Dunlap of Hartford, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Timothy and Kenneth Dunlap; and one brother, Richard Dunlap.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7, at 11 a.m. from Christ Lutheran Church, West Salem. Rev. Paul R. Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Neshonoc Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem, on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church and the West Salem Volunteer Fire Department.

Thomas C. Kroner
SPARTA, Wis. - Thomas C. Kroner, 58, of Sparta, died Friday morning, Oct. 3, 1997, in Rochester, Minn.
He is survived by five sons, Ronald, Sun Prairie, Wis., William, Yakima, Wash., James (Lia), Castle Rock, Colo., Richard, Kansas City, Kansas and Eric, Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren, Adam Kroner, Seattle, Wash., Samantha Kroner and Shane Kroner, Castle Rock, Colo.; his mother, Madeline Kroner, West Bend, Wis.; one sister, Jean Kutala, West Bend, Wis.; one brother, Richard (Sandy) Kroner, West Bend, Wis.; his special friend, Linda Amborn, Sparta.
The funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Jolivette officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 8 to 10 a.m.

Gary R. O'Hotto
Gary R. O'Hotto was born Dec. 30, 1952 and died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997.
He was born in Duluth, Minnesota and raised in Kremmling, Colorado. He was raised by his loving and beautiful mother, Nora O'Hotto. He graduated from West Grand High School and was a track and field state champion. He married Carla Sue Dowdy on June 28, 1974. They resided in Grandby, Colorado, for seven years and moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1981. They both shared two boys, Rob and Matt O'Hotto and divorced on Oct. 3, 1990. Gary loved to ride his Harley, go fishing, spend time with and take care of his family, hunting, golfing and to laugh. He was the treasurer for the ALANO AA Club for three years and his coffee cup was well recognized by all. He was an Alumni of the Valley Hope Treatment Center in Atchison, Kansas.
Gary was the loving father and is survived by two sons, Robert O'Hotto who lives in Minneapolis and Matthew O'Hotto who lives in La Crosse. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Carla Sue Heiden; his brother, Ron (Rosie), Shane, Kris; his sister, Linda Decker (Red), Jennifer, Andrea; his brother, Michael (Twilla), Christopher and Joetta; his brother, Don (Cathy), Clint, Pat, Chrissy (Shai); his sister, Anita Post (Richard), Tom, Typhi, Chiloe, Luke, Richard, Lisa; his sister, Marla Florence (Grant), Joel, Jeremy which reside in Kansas; his nephew, Jacob O'Hotto.
He was preceded in death by his gentle mother, Nora Etta; his brother, David; family friend, Smokey Harrison, Paul Dowdy; and his estranged father Ronald Sr.
A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. preceding a memorial mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 1997. Services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse.

Darney W. Reed
SPRING VALLEY, Minn. - Darney W. Reed, age 82, of Spring Valley, Minn., died Thursday, October 2, 1997, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Verna of Brownsville, Minn., and Wayne and Gloria of Rushford, Minn.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Dale Nelson of Rose Creek, Minn., Carol and David Olson of Inver Grove, Minn., Glenda and Leslie (Hillman) of Austin, Minn., and Candace and John Snyder of Spring Valley; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother and a half-sister.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 6, 1997, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn., with Rev. Robert Burmeister officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday; and at the church on Monday one hour before the services.
